Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, I am a student
of bachelors in science in the final year
from Andhra Pradesh.
Alhamdulillah, I recently have reverted to Islam and
I'm from a Hindu family.
How can I strengthen my Iman and what
are the steps that I can take in
order to strengthen my Iman?
And if one listens to the punishment of
hellfire, this individual, he does not fear the
punishment of the hellfire.
So what should be done in this situation?
We should see to it that we work
hard in order to strengthen our Iman, our
faith.
And the most important way is to be
connected to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Read the glorious Quran on a daily basis
with understanding.
Contemplate upon the meaning of what you are
reciting.
Offer the five daily prayers and the Tahajjud
prayer and the Sunnah prayer as well in
order to strengthen your Iman.
And besides this, be in the company of
good and righteous people, which is very important.
The more we are in the company of
good and righteous people, the more our Iman,
it will be strong and the Iman, it
does fluctuate.
Even the sahabas, their Iman fluctuated.
The sahabas, they came to the Prophet peace
be upon him and they told the Prophet
peace be upon him that O Prophet of
Allah, our Iman, it fluctuates when we are
with you.
So it is at its pinnacle.
But when we are away from you, our
Iman, it tends to get weak.
So the more we are in the company
of good people, our Iman, it will be
strong.
We should be wise in choosing our friends.
We should choose those friends who will draw
us closer towards Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
rather than choosing those friends who will take
us away from the remembrance of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
And we know the hadith of our beloved
Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
The comparison of the two persons.
The first is the one who goes to
the blacksmith.
He will be affected by the coal and
by the dirt.
Whereas a person, the other person, he goes
to a perfume seller.
He will be affected by the good smell
of the perfume.
The same is the case with friends.
If we have good friends, they will have
an impact on us.
If we have bad company and bad friends,
they will have a negative impact on us.
Besides this, we should listen to Islamic da
'ees and scholars as well.
And we have many of them, da'ees
who are available on peace TV and we
have the Al-Hidayah platform.
Several courses are available related to tafsir, related
to fiqh, related to aqeedah, related to da
'wah, how to do da'wah to non
-Muslims.
And we should see to that we are
involved in Islamic activities.
The more we are involved in Islamic activities,
the more we will be focused and our
iman inshallah it will be strong.
So if we are in the company of
good people, our good friends will encourage us
to do things that are good.
Our good friends will encourage us to do
da'wah, call the non-Muslims towards Islam.
And at the same time, in order to
safeguard our faith and our iman, the environment
as well plays an important role.
Unfortunately, many Muslims, they settle in non-Muslim
countries, in the western countries.
For example, in USA and UK.
Many of them, they stay in these countries
for several years just to get the passport.
Many of them, they go to these countries
for green pastures.
We very well know the fitna that is
there in these countries.
And many of the Muslims who have gone
there, they have gone far away from the
religion of Islam.
Many of the Muslims, they have become secular
Muslims, namesake Muslims, no practice of Islam.
Many of them, they leave their salah, they
leave fasting.
Unfortunately, many have gone to the extent of
becoming murtad, leaving or exiting Islam.
The environment, it is very bad in these
western countries, in these non-Muslim countries.
So why would a person go and settle
in these countries where he knows that there
is fitna?
When we walk on the streets, the women,
they are dressed immodestly.
There are so many billboards.
How much are you going to lower your
gaze?
So that is the reason we should see
to it that we are in a good
Islamic environment.
And there are several Muslim majority countries.
We have the example of Malaysia.
If we stay in a city like Putrajaya,
the environment, it is very good.
And then besides that, we have other states.
For example, we have Terengganu, we have Kelantan,
we have Perlis.
All of these states where in the environment,
it is very Islamic.
Majority Muslims are present.
So we should see to it that even
if a person needs to travel, he should
travel to a Muslim majority country.
We have other countries like Qatar as well.
So the environment as well plays a key
role in safeguarding our Iman.
And whenever we know that there is fitna
in any place, we should stay away from
it.
Unfortunately, many Muslims, they acquire little knowledge of
Islam and they think, Khalas, now my Iman
is very strong, I can go anywhere in
the world.
Even if I go to America, it depends
upon my Iman.
My Iman is strong and I will inshallah
stay on the straight path.
How can you trust the shaitan?
The shaitan will use all of his tactics
to try to tempt you.
So why would you go to such a
place where there is fitna?
So the environment plays a key role as
far as staying on the straight path is
concerned.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in
the glorious Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, chapter number
2, verse number 168, وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ
And do not follow the footsteps of the
devil.
Leave aside following the devil.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in this verse
of the glorious Quran, He's telling us do
not follow the footsteps of the devil.
So anything that leads to something that is
haram, we should stay away from it.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
glorious Quran, Surah Al-Isra, chapter number 17,
verse number 22, وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا Do not
come close to adultery.
Leave aside committing adultery, which is a major
sin.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in this
verse of the glorious Quran, وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا
Do not come close to adultery.
And there is a very important Qaeda in
Usulul Fiqh, which is called As-Saddud Dara
'i, blocking the means because some things may
lead to something that is haram.
So we should block the means.
If we think something will lead us to
a particular haram thing, we should see to
that we take our precaution and we keep
our distance.
A true believer is the one who will
always fear Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
he will take all precautions so that he
does not fall into something that is haram,
he does not fall into something that is
prohibited.
We pray to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
that may He strengthen our Iman, our faith
and may He always keep us on the
Siratul Mustaqeem.
And I pray to Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala that may He strengthen your Iman as
well and may He always keep you on
the Siratul Mustaqeem, on the straight path, the
rewards when they embrace Islam.
Many of them, they are Alhamdulillah enthusiastic.
In fact, many of them, they are more
enthusiastic about learning Islam as compared to many
of the born Muslims.
So may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala keep
you steadfast and may Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala keep you on the straight path, on
the Siratul Mustaqeem and may Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala keep your Iman strong.
