Assalamualaikum, I am Umair from Pakistan and I
am a student.
I would like to ask you that is
it prohibited to eat and slaughter cows in
Hinduism?
Is the prohibition of cow slaughter proved as
per the Hindu religious scriptures?
As far as eating meat is concerned, there
are verses in the Hindu scriptures which permit
to eat meat.
It is mentioned in Manusmriti, Chapter 5, Verse
30 that God created certain animals for eating.
Referring to sacrificial animals, it is mentioned in
Manusmriti, Chapter 5, Verse 31 that God created
these sacrificial animals and it refers to we
being permitted or the Hindus being permitted to
eat these animals.
It is mentioned in Manusmriti, Chapter 5, Verse
39 to 40 that God created sacrificial animals.
So killing and sacrifice, it is not considered
as killing.
Furthermore, it is mentioned in the Mahabharata, Anushasana
Parva, chapter number 88, which talks about Yudhishthira
and Bhishma, their conversation.
And it talks about offering food for the
ceremony of the dead.
And there are various foods that are mentioned
in this chapter, chapter number 88, which will
satisfy the ancestors.
For example, the meat of buffalo, the meat
of cow, the meat of goat, and various
other meats that are mentioned.
So as per the Hindu scriptures, a Hindu
is permitted to eat non-vegetarian food.
It is certain Hindus who are pure vegetarians.
But as per Manusmriti and as per the
references that I mentioned, it is permitted for
a Hindu to eat non-vegetarian food.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala mentioned in
the Glorious Quran, in several places regarding the
cattle that He had created it for us.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
Glorious Quran, Surah Al-Maida, chapter number 5,
O you
who believe, fulfill obligations.
Lawful unto you are all four-footed animals
with exceptions named.
So, we are permitted to eat meat, and
we human beings, we are herbivorous.
And the digestive system for the human beings,
it can digest non-vegetarian food as well
as the vegetarian food.
Even our teeth, the set of teeth of,
if we analyze the set of teeth of
the carnivorous animals, like the lions, the tigers,
they, our teeth are designed to eat only
non-vegetarian food.
If we analyze the set of teeth of
the herbivorous animals, they, our teeth are designed
to eat only the vegetarian food, that is,
the plants, etc.
If we analyze the set of teeth of
the herbivorous animals, they are designed to eat
both carnivore meat as well as vegetarian food.
And we human beings, we, our teeth are
designed to eat non-vegetarian food as well
as the vegetarian food.
We have the canine teeth as well, that
is, Allah SWT has given this to us
so that we eat non-vegetarian food.
So, that's the reason.
I would request the Hindu brothers and sisters
to read their scriptures and to follow their
scriptures.
And we should talk about the commonalities between
Hinduism, Christianity and Islam and not fight over
the differences in these great religions.
We pray to Allah SWT that may He
give us the best in this world as
well as the best in the hereafter.
And may He save us from the torment,
from the punishment of the hellfire.
And we pray to Allah SWT that may
He make it easy for our Palestinian brothers
and sisters.
We should always remember our Palestinian brothers and
sisters in our dua.
We should see to it that we get
up at night for the tahajjud prayer.
And always remember our Palestinian brothers and sisters
in our prayers.
And in fact, it is a sunnah of
our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him
that when the Muslims are affected with a
calamity or they are in a situation wherein
they are being tortured or persecuted, then they
can recite Qunoot in their five daily prayers
which is known as Qunoot an-Nazila.
As the Prophet peace be upon him did
that as well in his lifetime.
So, we can do this as well.
And I would request all the imams in
the different masajids that during the five daily
prayers to recite Qunoot in the last rakah
of every prayer from among the five daily
prayers and pray for our Palestinian brothers and
sisters.
Doing dua is very important and at the
same time we should support our Palestinian brothers
and sisters.
And we pray to Allah SWT that may
Allah SWT grant them victory over the oppressors
and may Allah SWT reward them for all
the striving and struggling that they are going
through.
Allahumma ameen.
Ameen.
