Fariq Naik – Is Dying of Cancer a Type of Martyrdom

My name is Sabina Farooq.

I am a student from Kashmir, India. I want to know that if a

person dies due to cancer, is he considered as a martyr? And I also

want to know, what are the things that we can do for someone who

dies.

There are several a hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad may peace

and blessings be upon him, which talks about the virtues of a

martyr

and our Hadees our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him they

even mentioned the types of a martyr, or the types of martyrdom.

A blood of Muhammad peace be upon him said it is mentioned authentic

hadith, five categories of five types of martyrs. The first is the

person who dies because of a plague. The second is the person

who dies because of drowning. The third is a person who dies because

of some disease in his stomach. The fourth is the person who dies

because of being crushed underneath something. And the

fifth is the person who dies, while fighting the way of Allah

subhanho wa taala. In another Hadith, of the Prophet Muhammad

peace be upon him said that the one who dies protecting his wealth

and his property he is a martyr.

So basically, six categories of martyrs that are mentioned the

Hadith our beloved Prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings

be upon him, but natural, the highest level of martyrdom, it is

the person who dies while fighting in the way of Allah subhanaw

taala, who does jihad in the way of Allah subhanaw taala that is

futile, fighting in the way of Allah subhanho wa Taala This is

the highest category of martyrdom. And this category of martyrdom

when a person dies in the way of Allah subhanho wa Taala while

fighting the way of Allah subhanaw taala it is not the same as the

person who dies because of drowning or the person who dies

because of a plague or the person who dies because of a stomach

disease. Now, as far as cancer is concerned, in general, a person

who dies because of cancer he is not considered as a martyr, except

if the cancer it is related to the stomach and this the opinion of

certain scholars, they say that this cancer is related this

stomach is specifically related to the abdomen and comes into the

category of Mattoon, which refers to a person dying because of a

disease in the stomach. So the cancer is late to the stomach or

to the abdomen, then he will be considered as a martyr. But in

general, a person who dies out of cancer he is not considered as a

martyr.

Now, if a person dies out of cancer, because of smoking, so in

this situation, he will not be considered as a martyr. If a

person, he goes on a journey, and the purpose of this journey is to

do something that is haram, for example, to commit Zina or to draw

or to do something that is haram. And while he's traveling in the

ship, he dies out of drowning, he will not be considered as a martyr

because the purpose of his journey it is to do something that is

haram. When an individual he dies. And if in this situation he has

died because of doing something that is haram, he will not be

considered as a martyr. Now coming to your second question, that what

are the deeds or what are the things that we can do for a person

who dies abroad Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said either

of Adam he passed away, all of his deeds are cut off except for

The parents they should give the right tarbiyah to the children so

that the children when they grow up, they will be righteous

children and they will do dua for the parents. Now as far as doing

specific things or specific deeds after personal pass away for this

person, there are several deeds that individuals do. But whatever

deed we do, we should see to it that there should be evidence for

it. So from among the deeds that we can do is doing Hajj for the

person who has passed away. So for example, if there's a relative or

if someone's father has passed away or his mother has passed

away, so Hajj can be done on behalf of this person, and if this

person was incapable of performing

In college, whether it be for financial reasons or whether it be

due to health reason reasons, then insha Allah when Hodges performed

on his behalf, inshallah he will be rewarded as well. So that's the

to it that it should be as per the teachings of the glorious for our
