Fariq Naik – How do the Youth Get Indoctrinated and get Involved in Violent Acts

You talk about the receptive nature of the Nigerian youth,

Muslims and Christians alike, because you've interfaced with all

of them, looking at the contemporary world, you know, and

the place of Islam, or the persecution, if you like, or the

challenges Islam faces globally, largely, it is driven by youth in

most cases, you find out that the youth are involved in this

violence, you know, and so on and so forth. Why do you think the

youth are becoming more and more vulnerable to some of this? Some

say, the US, you know, sometimes get distorted. I mean, in terms of

preaching they get, sometimes they get indoctrinated and so on and so

forth. How do you think this is playing a role in shaping you

know, the thinking of values? What are the major reasons what I feel

is the youth receive misinformation, and as we all know

that the media is very powerful. It is misrepresenting Islam,

projecting Islam in a negative manner. So certain people, they

may pick up certain verses of the Glorious Quran and they may

understand it out of context. So all those youth who are

indoctrinated, they are having misrepresentation or mis

understanding of Islam. For example, if anyone kills any human

being any innocent human being it is against the teachings of Islam.

human beings, not only non Muslim, any innocent human being whether

it be Muslim or non Muslim, killing any innocent human being

it is against the teachings of Islam. So anyone who teaches

certain things which are going clearly against the worst of the

Glorious Quran, this is totally against the teachings of Islam. So

what we should do is we should request the youth to go back to

the Glorious Quran and authentic teachings of our beloved Prophet

Muhammad peace be upon His side when you go back to the Quran and

authentic teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon

him, you will understand that Islam is a peaceful religion, it

never tells us to kill innocent human beings. It never tells us to

harm innocent human beings. In fact, it tells us to protect the

rights of others to protect the rights of Muslims as well as non

Muslims and to live in peace and harmony.
