Fariq Naik – Can a Muslim Study from a Non-Muslim

Salam aleikum, Wa alaykum wa salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakato

can a Muslim study from a non Muslim? As far as studying from a

non Muslim is concerned, it can broadly be divided into two types

a Muslim studying from a non Muslim, the knowledge related to

the deen. As far as this is concerned, knowledge of the deen

should only be acquired from a Muslim. It's not be acquired from

a non Muslim and unfortunately, we see that many Muslims they study

Islam from non Muslims and we find this that it is very prevalent in

the Western countries when people are writing thesis, whether it be

masters or whether it be PhD, they are Muslim or their supervisors

non Muslim, this should be avoided. Why would you want a non

Muslim to be a supervisor when it comes to matters of the deen when

it comes to Aqeedah when it comes to succeed when it comes to

Hadith, and you have so many Muslims who are far more, who are

far better as far as understanding the deen is concerned than these

non Muslims. But yet, many Muslims they prefer going to these

universities, these western universities and choosing such

professors were non Muslims. We have so many Islamic universities

that are far superior as compared to these western universities as

far as the knowledge of deen is concerned. So we should give

preference to these universities. So as far as the deen is

concerned, the knowledge of Islam is concerned, a Muslim should only

acquire it from Muslim. The second category is a Muslim studying from

a non Muslim the worldly knowledge. A Muslim can study from

a non Muslim the worldly knowledge, knowledge that is not

related to the deen. As far as the teacher is not teaching anything

that goes against the rules of Sharia that goes against the

teaching of the Glorious Quran or authentic hadith of a beloved

Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. And it does

not involve anything that is haram or anything or it is or it does

not involve in something or the teacher does not teach anything

that is haram. This should not be done.

So acquiring knowledge of the dunya worldly knowledge there is

no problem it is better for Muslim to acquire even the worldly

knowledge from a Muslim teacher. But if you acquire it from a non

Muslim as long as it does not break rules of the Sharia, there

is no problem in it. But for those who are studying in school,

especially in the pre primary and primary section, for example,

students five year small children five years old, six years old,

seven years old, they should see two that they acquire the parents

should see too that they acquire even the worldly knowledge from a

Muslim teacher. And the parents play a key role in the right

tarbiyah and upbringing of the children. They should see too,

that they admit that children into good Islamic schools rather than

admitting them into convent schools. Because if a student for

example, a female student studies, for example, a female student

maybe five years, six years a small girl studies, worldly

knowledge from a non Muslim teacher, or non Muslim female

teacher and this female teacher does not wear hijab, for example,

wears a skirt, what impression will it have on the student, the

student will think there is no problem in wearing such clothes.

Because for the student at a young age, when the student is five

years old, six years old, seven years old, for the student, the

teacher is the ultimate what the teacher does, it will have an

impact on the student. So that's the reason admitting children into

Islamic schools is very important so that they have a good Islamic

environment. And so that they're not being influenced by the

Western culture, which is very, which can be damaging to the

student.

So I request the parents that in whichever variable they're

staying, seated, to admit your children into good Islamic schools

so that it will save God their deen the religion of Islam, today,

there is so much fitna around us, we should see to it that we save

God, ourself and our family, from the temptations of the Satan. And

we see to it that we do things that are Islamic, and we are in an

Islamic environment so that we can safeguard ourself as well as our

family from the temptations of the shaytaan
