Fariq Naik – Can a Man Wear a Golden Copper Ring

I'm from Kashmir and currently

residing in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Gold is haram

for Muslim men. But can

Muslim men wear copper ring, a copper ring

that is gold in color.

1st, we'll discuss

the ruling regarding

men wearing gold.

According to all the 4 madahib, the Hanafi

school of thought, the Shafi'i school of thought,

the Maliki school of thought, and the Humbly

school of thought, all the 4 madahib,

they say that it is prohibited for a

man to wear gold.

And there are several hadith of Allah prophet

Muhammad peace be upon him, including the hadith

that is mentioned in Sunun Abu Dawood,

hadith number 4057,

and this hadith is mentioned in

and it is also reported by Imam Ahmed

and in other books of a hadith as

well. Abulullah prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him,

he took silk and he placed it on

his right hand, and he took gold and

he placed it on his left hand. And

he said,

that these 2 are prohibited for the men

of my nation, referring to silk and gold.

And another hadith of Allah prophet Muhammad be

upon him said, and this hadith mentioned Sahih

Muslim hadith number

2078.

That the prophet, peace be upon him, prohibited

men from wearing a gold ring. So the

ahadith are crystal clear which prohibit a Muslim

man from wearing

gold.

Whether it be a gold watch, whether it

be a gold ring or whether it be

gold jewelry, etcetera. All of this is prohibited

for a Muslim man to wear. Now as

far as a ring is concerned,

the general ruling

for wearing a ring, a man can wear

a ring,

but it should not be a gold ring.

And the prophet peace be on him himself

wore a ring And on it, it was

written Muhammad Rasulullah,

Muhammad the messenger of Allah, peace be upon

him. So the prophet, peace be upon him,

did wear a ring. Now a person can

wear a ring that is gold in color,

whether it be a copper ring or iron

ring, as long as it is not pure

gold and as long as it is not

gold plated. So if it is not pure

gold and if it's not gold plated, there

is no problem in wearing a ring that

is merely gold in color. The best is

that a person avoids wearing such a ring

because people may think that he's wearing a

gold ring,

a gold ring that is pure gold. And

especially for those people who are and those

who are student of knowledge, the best is

to avoid wearing

a ring that is gold in color because

a person may think that he's wearing something

that is haram

because they may think that he's wearing gold.

The same is the case with a watch

that is not pure gold, but it's merely

gold in color and it is not gold

plated. The best is to avoid wearing such

a watch

because a person may think that he's do

that this individual is wearing a gold

watch or a watch that is pure gold.

But if a person wishes, the Islamic ruling

is that but natural, he can wear

a ring that is gold in color. It

should not be pure gold and should not

be gold plated.
