seekers with Sheikh Rasra Behni.
So,
after, starting in the name of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala and praising Allah and sending peace
and salutations upon the messenger of Allah, sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam. We continue the,
looking at the, book of imam Abu Abdul
Rahman al Sulami. May Allah have mercy on
him,
of
exposing or or clarifying the blame worthy traits
of the self and their cure.
And we stopped at the 44th,
trait. And he says, and from its blame
worthy traits, I. E. The self is,
laziness.
And
to
literally
sit down
I. E. Not fulfill
the commands, meaning the commands of Allah. And
its cure is for one to know that
he is being commanded
by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
So it starts off by saying it's, of
its blame worthy traits, of the blame worthy
traits of the self is laziness. And laziness
is one of the faults and one of
the shortcomings
of,
the self that one should try to rid
themselves of.
And,
the prophet
in many,
narrations has sought refuge
from having laziness where he says,
in one of the supplications,
he says that I seek refuge in Allah
from disability and I seek refuge from Allah
from,
having laziness.
And so we see, so there are 2
things here. There's laziness, and there is withholding
or sitting down from,
answering
the or fulfilling the command of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala. And so,
as an example of that is when one
hears the aden,
on the call to the to the prayer,
they, for if they're if they do not
fulfill the command of Allah, that means that
when they hear it, they just don't,
respond to it by going to pray. And
so this is sitting down or withholding from,
fulfilling the command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And,
the the example for laziness with that with
that regard would be that they,
say,
I'll I'll go later I'll go later and
they keep pushing it until the time of
the the prayer runs out and they don't
end up going, and and responding to the
call to the prayer and they don't go
to pray.
And so here he says
and treating it is through knowing that this
command is from Allah
So the what the devil does, what the
accursed devil does is that he,
puts down and holds down the believer
through laziness from fulfilling the command of Allah
So the blame worthy command here sorry. The
blame worthy laziness that is being,
discussed here and talked about here is that
which regards the commands of Allah
and not merely
worldly matters. For if one is lazy regarding
worldly matters, it's different than being lazy regarding
the command of Allah because then one is,
is is is, passing by and is not
fulfilling that which they are able to attain
good deeds and righteous deeds and attain reward
with Allah
And so all of this stems from being
heedless of Allah
So,
so one,
does not be, lazy,
towards the commands of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And,
and 1, when 1 when a Muslim has
testified
with the 2 testifications of faith that there
is no God but Allah, no God but
God, and there's no Messenger but the Messenger,
about Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. There's no
Messenger of God but Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam, then they have submitted, they have entered
into a state of Islam, and entering into
a state of Islam means that one submits
to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and His commands,
and one follows those commands. And so one
doesn't sit there and
and, in a blameworthy way, ask questions
like, why should I pray or why should
I fast or why should I give in
alms?
Rather, one submits and fulfills those commands. And
here we have to differentiate that there are
2 different types of questions. There's there's one
that asks those questions
in order to seek more benefit and to
seek more knowledge and not merely to not
fulfill the command of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala. So there's blameworthy questioning, which is
one, seeking not to fulfill the command. And
there's one that that there's a praiseworthy
or acceptable
questioning, which is,
that one,
asks in order to increase in knowledge and,
tries to to understand the commands of Allah
better. And so here in order to cure
oneself of that blame worthy quality of laziness,
then one knows that this command is coming
from the divine. It's coming from the Lord.
That one that the the Muslim has submitted
to.
So then, Imam Abu Abdul Rahman al Salami
continues and says,
and so let the the happiness
of, one,
fulfilling the command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
be the,
motivation and that which carries one to have
energy in order to, fulfill that command. And
so,
here, we see that the person who is
a Muslim, the person who has submitted to
Allah
is happy in fulfilling the command of Allah
He has happiness with that regard because he
knows that in fulfilling the command of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, this pleases Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala. And if one is doing something that
pleases Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, then they feel
happiness towards that. And they and they are,
and they and they go forward in doing
it with energy, and they have energy to
fulfill those commands. And it doesn't,
hold them down, or or laziness does not
hold them down and does
not.
Make them not be able to fulfill the
command of Allah
and the the accursed devil or or the
devil's the one who for someone who is
heedless of the remembrance of Allah
is the one who holds the the the
person down from fulfilling
that command and so the more the one
one has remembrance and is conscious of Allah.
But then the more they will depart from
laziness and will have energy to fulfill the
command. However, when someone doesn't remember Allah
often and doesn't remember Allah
in their dwellings or in their houses often,
then the devil start,
accumulating and coming and
taking rest
or staying in those places. And when they
do, that's when they start holding down someone
from being able to fulfill the commands of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And
we see that
on the flip side that the prophet
when he was,
doing or fulfilling the command of Allah in
prayer, he would say to say to say
to say to say
to Allah be pleased with him.
Give us
give us rest through it, I e call
to the prayer so that we,
we we do that, which which gives us
joy or gives us rest through fulfilling the
command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And the
prophet
is the most heedful and the most conscious
of Allah
And so this is to teach us that,
through the remembrance of Allah
and through being conscious of Allah
one battles laziness and has energy to fulfill,
the command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
So the author then continues
and says,
that I've heard my my grandfather say,
that, some of the righteous said that,
the
the being,
or deeming
poultry or deeming it to be small. The
command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'la is from
the,
from having little knowledge of the one who's
giving the command or
not having not knowing the one who's giving
the command.
And so what he's trying to say here
is that one that is careless,
with the command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
in reality
is turning their back towards the command of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And so we could
imagine that laziness is just a manifestation or
is just a cover up to the reality
within oneself,
for or the one that who's lazy. And
that reality is that they're turning their back,
in for to the command of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala and being very negligent and being
very careless with the command of Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala. Otherwise,
the person who knows Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
or is conscious of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
they're happy to do that which pleases Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. They're happy to draw close
to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
and do that which Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
loves,
fulfilling his
the command of Allah, and that one would
in turn love doing those actions.
And so, we give an example, and to
Allah
is the highest of of of examples,
that if if one was working in a
company
and they had a,
a superior or a supervisor
or a boss, that when when the boss
tells them to do something
and they don't don't fulfill it because they're
careless about it or they're careless with regards
to the commands of that boss, then what
will happen is that the boss will will
disregard them, will,
may even punish them, or may even just
fire them altogether.
However, if someone,
knew the the worth of the of the
company that they're working for or the worth
of the position that they're in and,
the worth of of of the of the
boss or their superior, then whenever they ask
them to do something, they'll be happy about
it because they know through that, they'll,
maybe move up the the ranks or move
up the the,
ladder of of,
of positions in the company, and maybe move
closer to to being,
to or to to being close to the
boss. And to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is
is the highest of example
that when someone submits to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala and Allah asks them or or commands
them to do something,
then they're happy because they know in that
there's the love of Allah
and there's the drawing near to Allah
and so they rushed to that command. And
some of the,
righteous,
predecessors said that if I wanted to be
close to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala or if
I wanted to, speak to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala, I went straight or rushed straight to
prayer. And if I wanted to hear,
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
I rush to reading,
from the Quran.
And so there is nothing that veils between
the the,
servant and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And so
one takes the opportunity
and doesn't be lazy and doesn't be careless
with the commands of Allah
Rather they rush towards it with happiness, with
joy, because they know that through that they
are,
drawing near to Allah
and they are seeking that which,
which,
which begets,
the love of Allah
And with that, we ask Allah
for,
facilitation.
