Is wearing hijab and having wudhu requirements when reading the Qur’an? What about when a sister who is ill and is hospitalized, do these requirements apply?
Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda answers
Sister asked the question that if she's in the hospital does she have to make will do and wear hijab when she reads the Quran when she reads the book of Allah subhanaw taala.
So interestingly enough when it comes to the conditions for reciting the Quran reading the book of Allah subhanaw taala, a sister wearing a hijab is not absolutely mandatory. There's no textual evidence that says it is necessary for a sister to wear hijab when reading the Quran, it is recommended by some scholars as an etiquettes of engaging with the book, but it is absolutely not a requirement number one. Number two, when it comes to having will do to reading the Koran, again, there's a little bit of a conversation there. If somebody is just verbally reciting the Quran that they already have memorized, then you do not need to have will do for that. If you are making
physical contact with the Koran, then the vast overwhelming majority of scholars say that we do is a requirement for that there's still some disagreement and that I should stay To be fair, however, the majority do say that you have to have will do to make physical contact with the person. But if somebody is in the hospital, somebody is bedridden, somebody is very sick, very ill, where they're not able to make will do perhaps, then it's absolutely understandable for that person to handle the put on without making will do, they can simply do something like to mom where they just kind of pat their hands and they wipe over their face and they Pat their hands down and then they wipe over
their arms and they can engage with the or on physically, in that particular condition. We make God that Allah blesses everyone with health and May Allah subhanho wa Taala allow us to stay connected to the Quran till the very last moments of our life.
