in Islam Asalaamu Alaykum Rahmatullahi Ta'ala wa
Barakatuh Walaikum Asalaam When Sheikh asked me to
make a khikmat today I didn't know what
I was going to speak about actually Eventually
I came up with ten type pages and
I hope I'll be able to even if
I don't finish it now I'm going to
finish it after the Salah.
I'm a very troubled man, extremely troubled man.
I slept little this week and the thoughts
of what is going on in this community
is troubling me.
In all my years, over 70 years, I've
not come across this kind of disagreement that
has taken the root in this community and
I didn't even know what to call this
Khutbah today, this English translation of the Khutbah
today, except to say that I said all
Muslims have kept on.
Why are we abandoning the Qur'an and
the Sunnah?
Because from my vantage point, from the way
I read the situation is that we are
abandoning the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
There is no place that I've heard persons
who talk about or talk on the basis
of no Qur'an and Sunnah.
In fact the person who always makes these
statements, the blasphemous statements never quotes the Qur
'an nor the Sunnah.
He will say make a statement but no
Qur'an nor Sunnah.
At all.
Nothing.
Not even saying Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
He just makes the statement and that is
it.
He just says that the Qur'an is
not, this is not our Qur'an, this
is not the Qur'an.
He repeats it, this is not the Qur
'an, this is from where it comes, no.
He says you look at somebody and that
person forgives all your sins, he repeats it
two or three times, no response as far
as his Dalil is concerned.
His proof is totally absent.
Now this is unforgivable, this is not the
behavior of a person who has half a
percent of knowledge of the Qur'an and
Sunnah.
Half a percent of knowledge of the Qur
'an and Sunnah.
And has at least one grain of fear
in his heart of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
Not one grain, which he disregards Allah, he
disregards his Prophet.
I've got no, what he is saying is
I have no Dalil in the Qur'an
and Sunnah but this is what I believe
and this is what those who follow me
believe.
And unfortunately there are many people who believe,
like in time of the Prophet ﷺ lots
of people believed.
I mean Nuh's time, Shaymi preached for more
than 100 years when he set sail on
his ship.
How many people was on the ship?
80 people.
For more than a thousand years he could
only convince 80 people that there is one
Allah only and that he was the messenger
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
So we are in this situation, it's a
terrible situation, it's something we're both concerned, we're
all worried about the people who are dying
in Aqsa.
Then we are dying, our deen is dying,
our children's deen is dying.
Of course you confuse them, don't you confuse
them, they say well you know this is
how the sheikhs carry on and maulanas and
sheikhs also carry on and you know it's
their fight you know it's not my fight.
Inna alihumma ummatan.
There is no such thing as a sheikh
and an imam and a maulana in the
deen, no such thing.
Neither was Abu Bakr called by that name,
nor was Omar called by that name, nor
was the greatest Imam Mushafi of course, he
was called an imam and for us the
lowest rank is what?
What is the lowest rank?
Imam.
For them the highest rank was imam.
So we have that rankage also wrong because
it doesn't exist.
If we follow the sunnah of the Nabi,
if we follow the sahaba, Abu Bakr, Omar,
Uthman, Wahab, they were elected.
It's totally different.
There was an election in each and every
world.
People came together and decided to appoint one,
two, three, four of the Khalifas.
They didn't know where they come from.
We don't know how the mufti of the
MJC, not the mufti of the people, it's
the mufti of the MJC, yet the MJC
should be able to tell us how did
he come to be who he is.
How is the imam in your masjid that
has been appointed by the MJC who sits
through this person?
How were they appointed?
Just because they were Hafidh al-Quran?
One of the sahaba, maybe one sahaba was
appointed as an imam because he was Hafidh
al-Quran.
See?
Not one.
Why not?
Because being Hafidh is not a requisite to
be a leader of people.
Abu Bakr, was he Hafidh?
Was he the greatest man after the Prophet?
Was he going to enter Jannah with the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam?
Was he Hafidh al-Quran?
No.
But why not?
We would think that everybody is becoming Hafidh,
they are following the sunnah of the Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, of course,
was taught by Jibreel in every Ramadan.
Jibreel used to revise the Quran with him
and so he knew the whole Quran.
I will get back to that.
So, to me there is an abandonment.
If we now argue without the Quran and
sunnah, then what are we?
What are we doing?
I can't prove to you.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was given
the Quran by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
in every verse that he read, there was
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave it to
him straight directly from Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
Today we say, the Quran is not the
Quran.
Today we say, the Quraniyoon, people who believe
that the Quran is the final word of
everything, they call the Quraniyoon.
They rejected sunnah and the sunnah of the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and all their
hadith, whatever goes with it, they rejected completely.
They say the Quran is enough for us.
And we learn later on what Allah says
about those people.
People who do not revert to the sunnah.
People who say only the Quran.
How are you going to know the Quran?
If you don't know the meaning of the
Quran, and who gave us the meaning of
the Quran?
The hikmah of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
So we have replaced the sunnah with love.
You know what is love?
In the 60s there was make love not
war.
Those who have been over 70 will remember
that.
The Beatles.
Remember that?
It was all about love.
They had love for race, they had love
for everything.
They never told us what they loved.
They just say, today we have also love.
Group of us have also love on our
lips.
But it is found nowhere in our practice.
And what is the love we speak about?
We love Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
We love the Nabi, you don't understand.
We love the Nabi.
We make murad every week, put salawat on
the Nabi sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
We have now been swallowed up by the
culture of the West and also the belief
system of the West.
Not only have we swallowed their customs and
their cultures on our phones, we have ages,
we dress like them, we speak like them,
we want our children to be like them,
as intelligent as them, have a qualification that
the kuffar has.
Sorry, I am saying Quranic but you know
what I am trying to say to you.
But we have now also accepted the belief
system of the kuffar.
I can't say anything if I don't give
you proof.
We have accepted the belief system of the
kafir.
What are the kafir belief?
Which is the belief system of the West?
The kafir believe, the Christians believe, the closest
to us, they believe that you don't have
to know the Bible.
You don't have to know the Torah.
You don't have to know anything of that.
You don't have to know anything about God.
Because they have made Nabi Isa into God
and prophet in one.
In fact, they are made in God.
And what do they say?
And I've said this I think the last
time I spoke, that the Christians, they will
do all wrong.
All the wrong in dunya, they bring all
the wrong.
And Saudi Arabia is now following all that
wrong.
And trying to justify all that wrong by
saying haram is not haram whereas Allah said
in the Quran it's haram.
And naked ladies making, dancing around a form
that looks like a Kaaba.
Of course, we contend that.
We're not interested in Wahabis, Khalafis, whatever.
We're not interested in.
I personally never be interested in that kind
of allegiance.
For me, you must attach yourself to the
Quran and the sunnah of the Nabi sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
So we have done with our prophet as
they did with Jesus.
As they did with Nabi Isa, we are
now doing with Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
What are we doing today?
We're saying we love Muhammad.
What does the Christians say about Jesus?
You love Jesus?
What will happen to you?
That's all you need to go to paradise.
You must just love Jesus.
Don't have to pray, don't have to fast,
you don't have to, and you can do
whatever you want.
This dunya is yours and the akhirah is
also yours.
All you must do is you must love
Jesus.
Nothing to do with God either.
You must love Jesus.
You love Jesus, that's your ticket to paradise.
Today we say, we are those who are
good.
We put salawat on the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
And so they have made out of our
Nabi Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam, and that's when
Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, I said, you
know, what did I say now?
So we are on that same path.
We tell our children, tell our friends, tell
the community that our ulamas say that you
love Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
You could ask him for anything now while
he's dead, lying in his grave.
You can now ask him for anything.
You go to Madinah, you stretch your hand
out to him, you ask him to shake
your hand.
They will tell their adherents that it is
the truth.
It actually happened.
But nobody said, no, no, it happened.
He asked for Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam to
do something for him.
The Nabi found his leader or his friend
or whatever and told him where to find
him.
So what are they doing?
They're doing the Christian sect.
They brought Isa and Allah together, la hawla
wa la quwwata illa billah.
They brought God and Jesus together and they
made him, what do they call him?
The trinity.
One God in three parts.
We have now started with one Allah in
two parts.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and Muhammad sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
Although even some Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,
do not elevate me like the children, like
the people of Isa elevated their prophet.
I am a slave and I am a
messenger of Allah.
So call me the slave and messenger of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
That would settle the argument.
But for these people, it doesn't settle the
argument.
Why?
Because they're totally absolutely juhala.
They're jahils.
They know nothing about Islam, nothing about tawhid,
nothing about anything.
It doesn't matter who they are.
A person who says that you can only
love the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, where does
this come from?
Where is your love for Allah?
We put up salawat.
You put up salawat?
Nobody puts salawat on the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
No, I know you put salawat on the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
There's not one of you who can say
to me, I put salawat on the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
No, you don't.
Let's go to the verse.
Let's go to the verse of putting salawat
on the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
Surah Al-Ahzab, 33 verse, verse number 56
you know you know the verse, what do
you know?
inna allaha wa malaikatahu yusalluna alamnani yani wa
allatheena aamanu sallu alayhi wa sallimun how many
speakers do I need so that you can
fumble my words so why do I say
that we do not put salawat?
even if we do put salawat we are
not putting salawat on the names what am
I saying?
I am saying that when I say Salawat
what do I say?
Allahumma Sall ala Muhammad Sall Allahu ala Muhammad
I am not saying I am asking Allah
to put salawat on the nabi sallallahu alayhi
wasallam Allahumma Allah put salawat on the nadi
sallallahu alayhi wasallam Allahumma sall ala muhammad oh
Allah put salawat facilitate what
is because it's a dua and Allah starts
every dua, isn't it?
Isn't it?
So when I say Allahumma salli, what am
I making?
What am I doing?
I'm putting I'm making dua for the Nabi
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam by putting salawat on
him.
That's why I say Allahumma salli.
I can't say Allahumma salli, Allahumma anna wa
salli ala nabi.
I could say Allahumma salli.
So when you meet them again and they
break apart putting salawat and say no brother.
We say Allahumma salli, all of us.
No, none of us.
The salawat doesn't go straight to the Nabi.
It goes via Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And so was it in the case of
Nabi Musa, Nabi Isa, all the anbiya, Nabi
Ibrahim, all the anbiya put salawat, whoever is
put salawat on via Allahumma subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
So we are now told by this famous
person, you all know, he says we should
speak every day to the Nabi sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam.
We should speak the whole day to the
Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Why don't you speak to the Nabi sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam?
How come the Prophet didn't tell us while
he was alive?
That we must speak to him when he's
dead.
How come he forgot this?
Why come Abu Bakr never told us to
do this?
Why come his wife Aisha was with him
every single day?
Why didn't he tell Aisha?
When I'm dead, ask me for anything and
I will not be dead.
And yet the whole history of Islam tells
us that the greatest of Sahaba, the Prophet
himself said, Allah says, Innaka mayyitun wa innahu
bayyitun.
Allah says, O Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
while he was alive, you are going to
be a corpse and everyone that is alive
on earth will become corpses.
You will be dead, you will die, everybody
else will die.
It has to be like that.
It has to be like that.
Even if Allah didn't say that, we know
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the
only one that will be alive and everything,
Kullu man alayhafan, everything in this universe will
die.
Everything, kullu man alayhafan, everything on earth, in
and on top will die.
Kullu man alayhafan, wa yaba khaf, and what
will remain?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
You have to do, this is your duty.
If you don't believe that you are not
going to Jannah, Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
is kafir.
But your chance of going to Jannah is
zero.
If you don't understand your Lord Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, that is your creator, that
we will all perish in his hands, in
our salvation, in nobody's hands.
The Prophet can intercede for us.
Yes, but he can't put us in Jannah.
He can say, Ya Allah, this person is
a good person.
Ya Allah, give this person Jannah.
Ya Allah, my daughter.
Ya Allah, she is a good person.
Ya Allah, give her Jannah.
He can't believe with Allah and Allah will
give him permission and many others to do
that.
But who will have the final decision?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Like the angel said to the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam at the Haud, the water
on the Day of Qiyamah, only that water
will be available and the sun will be
so much above your head.
And we the Ummah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam will stand in a row at
that place where that water is, like a
dam of water.
And the Prophet himself will give all of
us inshallah, water from that.
And then they will come people and the
Prophet will take the water and the Prophet
will give it to them and the Malaika
will say, Oh, don't give him.
Ya Rasulullah, people will say, what do you
mean?
Don't give him.
He looks like a ummati of mine.
He's not a good person.
Angel will say, Ya Rasulullah, you don't know
what innovations they brought into Islam after your
death.
You don't know.
You don't know what innovations, bid'ah.
These people laugh at bid'ah.
These people laugh at shirk.
This man laughs at bid'ah, he laughs
at shirk.
We will see what Allah says about such
people.
Well, we have functions now.
See how we have regressed.
We don't know that we have regressed, we
have gone way back.
We now have functions, three minutes of Qur
'an and three hours of drum beating and
singing.
And what language are they singing?
They're singing Arabic.
So you don't understand the Qur'an now
when you go to the wherever you go
and you don't understand what they are singing.
You go to the Haddad, you don't understand
a word of what they say.
You go to the Maulud, you don't understand
a word.
We live in a world where the Christians,
the Christians say, they say these Muslims, they
don't understand the book.
Yeah, they memorize it, but it's the bid
'ah, it is what it is.
I mean, I listen to these people in
London, standing on three corners, calling people to
Islam.
That's what the people say to them.
You talk about so great about Islam.
And then the Ba'ath Shia, but we
memorize the Qur'an, we come to that,
we memorize the Qur'an, you haven't memorized
the Qur'an.
And I think to myself, such a bad
argument.
Allah doesn't require us to memorize the whole
Qur'an.
The Prophet doesn't require us to know the
whole Qur'an.
What does Allah say about the Qur'an?
What does Allah say about the Qur'an?
Allah says, apply your mind to the Qur
'an.
No way in the Qur'an Allah says,
memorize the whole Qur'an.
Then Omar, the great Omar.
Who was the first one?
The great Abu Bakr.
The only one was Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud.
No, Abdullah Ibn Omar.
Abdullah Ibn Omar was the Sahabi.
They say he loved the Prophet the most.
Because he would do everything that the Prophet
did.
If there was a tree and the Prophet
walked left way around the tree, he would
for the rest of his life, whatever it
is a tree would go around the left
side of it.
In the Salah, he would watch everything the
Prophet did, every single, whatever he said to
memorize it, he would memorize it.
And one day he decided to memorize Surah
Al-Baqarah.
He sat inside with myself a task.
Not the whole Qur'an, he says, I'm
going to memorize Surah Al-Baqarah.
He chose that Surah.
How long do you think it took him
to memorize Surah Al-Baqarah?
Anybody take a guess?
Six months.
Yeah, that is what they now offer also.
You can memorize the whole Qur'an in
six months and then three years.
And be zero barakah in that, zero barakah.
So how long did Abdullah Ibn Omar take
to memorize Surah Al-Baqarah?
Take a guess.
I'm not asking you to, I'm asking you
to know.
Ten years, Masha'Allah.
Anybody else?
Anybody else?
I can wait.
This is a very important point.
I don't want you to forget it.
So take your time.
You can go up, you can go down.
Maybe you read the jackpot.
I'll take another two.
You don't take a guess.
All right.
Two years.
24 years.
Say it again.
Say it to yourself.
He took 24 years to memorize Surah Al
-Baqarah.
Why?
He's a Sahabi.
Sure.
And when he finished memorizing Surah Al-Baqarah,
he had a bride place in Madinah.
He slaughtered a whole camel.
Camel is a big animal.
He slaughtered one whole camel and divided all
of Madinah to celebrate him having memorized Surah
Al-Baqarah.
Because the first important thing for the Sahaba
was understanding the Qur'an.
So if he said bismillah, he would find
out the real and correct meaning of bismillah.
He'd walk on to Alhamdulillah.
That's another word.
And then he would search for by the
other Sahaba, he would search for and tell
me what did the Prophet say?
What was the meaning of this word?
What was the meaning of that word?
What was the meaning?
And every time he memorized a sentence, doesn't
matter how long it takes, maybe a year,
maybe two years, he would go to the
next sentence.
Until he finished the whole of Surah Al
-Baqarah.
So what came first for them?
Understanding.
Today, what comes first?
Memorization.
Reading and then memorization, reading and memorization, reading
and memorization, reading and memorization.
No, no understanding.
Zero understanding.
Maybe you can, you can send me to
a place where people go to understand and
memorize.
Allah says, don't you go, don't you apply
your mind to the Quran.
So nothing wrong making the Quran hafidh, but
then you must make the kuffar understand that
this is 5% of what is required
of you when it comes to the Quran.
Allah will reward you and there is barakah
in reading the Quran.
But what is better than barakah?
Better than barakah is to understand.
Better than barakah is to implement what Allah
says first.
What did Allah say first?
You don't have to read the whole Surah
every night.
You can read one sentence every night.
One sentence.
After Fajr, one sentence.
Have the translations of Quran.
Look at the translations of Quran.
Read it a thousand times.
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Do you really know what that means?
Google it.
Read it up somewhere else.
Maybe in three different Qurans.
Don't read the whole of Surah Al-Baqarah.
People say, you know, every morning after Fajr,
I have to read this Surah and that
Surah, that Surah, that Surah to myself.
And I never embarrass people.
So I don't ask them, what have you
understood from reading?
I say, mashallah.
But now in this congregation, I've got the
freedom of saying what I think is the
truth to say.
So that was Ibn Umar.
I told you about a great Sheikh that
I often quote from.
Anyway, he was an Egyptian, became a great
alim.
He became Hafiz at the age of 10.
He says when he got into his 20s,
and he was trying to make sense of
the Quran.
He's an Arab.
Stay in Arabic.
He said when he came to 20, what
was in him was, what was in him,
what was bred in him was, read Mekhafiz,
read Mekhafiz, read, memorize, read, memorize.
This was in his mind.
Whenever he thought of the Quran, these two
words came to his mind.
Read, memorize, read, memorize.
So he said he found it extremely difficult
to read and understand and to break this
lock jaw of read and memorize, read and
memorize.
It took him a while to get into
the Quran.
He was an Arab, became a great scholar.
So, I
will get back to the Quran, but I
just want to take another few minutes to
finish this part.
The other half, of course, is the Sunnah,
of our understanding of our Deen.
Why say the other half?
Because the other half, the Sunnah is the
interpretation of the Quran, the interpretation given to
Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam by Jibreel and
by the Hikmah of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam.
So how did the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam interpret the Quran?
Allah gave him two, Allah said, I gave
you two things.
I gave you the Quran and I gave
you Hikmah.
Two things Allah said.
What is Hikmah?
What is Hikmah?
I can't hear you.
Wisdom.
MashaAllah.
Have you got wisdom?
I hope you have.
Wisdom.
So Allah says, we think, Oh, the Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam knew the Quran, you
know, he could say anything, but he said
it because it was given to him by
whom?
By the Hikmah which Allah gave to Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
And so Allah gave also Hikmah.
We apply that Hikmah to every science in
this Dunya.
You send your child to university, he will
break down every word in whatever book he
has, he has to understand it.
And what does he apply?
And we say, he's got a lot of
what?
Hikmah.
A lot of, forget the meaning of it.
What is Hikmah again?
Wisdom.
We don't have wisdom.
You have to settle for UWC.
It's a joke.
I studied at UWC.
It's fine.
It was fine.
So I haven't done this very very important
part coming next, which I will do afterwards.
And that is what does Allah say?
What does Allah say about the instructions of
Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam to us?
Are we only bound to the Quran?
What does Allah say?
What is the purpose and the mission of
the Nabi sallallahu alaihi wa sallam as told
to us by whom?
By Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Yes, we must love the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam.
We have to love him.
More than we love ourselves and our parents
and our children.
We never think we must love.
But when Allah speaks about Muhammad sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam, he doesn't talk in terms of
that.
He talks in terms of what?
Following him.
He's your example.
So may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala guide
us.
And may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala guide
those who need to be guided.
And may Allah give us the strength to
stand up to this faith, to speak about
it, to spread it.
The Prophet left, lost his whole family in
Makkah.
His whole family, uncles, brothers, uncles and aunties
and friends, tribes and he went where?
Where did he go to?
Madinah.
And what is Madinah called today?
What is the hot spot today of death
to Muslims?
We'll say the whole of the Middle East.
Say he went from there to there.
We're still here.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala guide us.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make the
Quran and the Sunnah.
Our life struggle to understand.
Well, I remember those of you have time
afterwards.
Welcome.
I don't know whether I can be here
next time.
I don't know.
I love from Friday to Friday.
So you have to make the best Inshallah
of me and of Sheikh and all the
other who are guided when they say, Sheikh
says take 10 minutes of your time and
Inshallah, there'll be time for questions as well.
I took five minutes of your time.
