The Islamic Year Explained

Bismillah Alhamdulillah wa salatu salam ala Rasulillah my brothers and sisters salaam aleikum wa rahmatullah wa barakato. Especially my younger brothers and sisters. Did you know that last Thursday on the 20th of August was our new Islamic year? It's called the Hijiri calendar. Yes, the Muslims, we have our own Islamic calendar. In fact, on your phone right now, you can go to your calendar app, and you can change it to Islamic calendar and it will show you all these different Islamic months in Arabic or an English or whatever language you want. For some of you who were younger, in the younger days or maybe even your children still now there is this machine we used to listen to. It goes like

this Mahara. Mustapha Robbie, oh, Arabia, Thani, these are the months I was landed. And so some of you may have remembered this one. And you know, that's those are the months that the history calendar go by. Allah spent Allah tells us in the Quran, in Surah Tauba, verse 36, that he that Allah had made right from the beginning, when he created the heavens in the earth 12 months and by the way, in, in the Quran, when when they translate the word summer wet in as heavens, it doesn't mean paradise. Heavens literally means what's ever above us. It means our solar system, our galaxy, the stars, the sun, the moon, the planets, all of that is called heavens, and Allah created the

earth. So from day one, Allah Subhana Allah made it 12 months, the Earth was rotating around the sun, the sun rotating around itself and the solar system, everything is moving around in a galaxy. In fact, it also talks about inserted the ASEAN and many other places in the Quran. such phenomenal detail, Subhan Allah and Islam as always talked about maths, and it's always talked about calculations everywhere throughout our Islamic history, brothers and sisters, so there are 12 months and they're called Muharram. Suffer robiola be authentic, all the way up to the last one called will hedger. In those there are four months which Allah Subhana Allah made, he called them the forbidden

months, and the Arabs before Mohamed Salah Selim came out, they always had this in their religion, they always knew about these four months, they will call those gathered hedger and Muharram. Plus Russia. What it meant is, was that they weren't allowed to fight or battle. So if two people were fighting, they have to lay their arms no one can start anyone in the fight or river or anything like that. But what the Arab Arabs did before Mohamed Salah Salem came, they tried to trick around and manipulate their own religion. So they would say, hey, let's do one year we'll call it Muharram. And the following, we'll just call it suffer number one, you know, suffer suffer number two, trying to

change the name and the last Mandela pick that up and told them in the Quran, you are not allowed to do that and call Allah's days, your own days just so that you can fight and invade other tribes and other people. So that when the Prophet Muhammad Salah Selim came along, he held on to this month, and he called et al Mohammed Al Muharram.

And they used to have different names before you know, but in Islam, we stuck to these names. And the word Al Muharram means that it is the forbidden month, first of all, was was Muharram. And then they added added to it, which means to emphasize the fact that it is a very special month in which you should abstain from evil doings and bad actions along with the other three months. Of course, for a Muslim every month, we must abstain from evil actions and bad doings, and, you know, oppression and wrongdoings, but it's more emphasized, it's like one of those months you know, a training time just like Ramadan is for example, these are also four months for us to emphasize on

good deeds and stay away from oppression and bad deeds. So

my brothers and sisters, it was Muharram because Allah Subhana Allah said, you know, do not fight in those months. And this tells you that in Islam as well, in we should avoid fighting as much as we can avoid quarreling, avoid arguing, avoid any type, you know, and try to establish peace as much as we can. And you know, some people they say that Islam means peace. Well, not really Islam means the way of life of truth and justice and we take it from Allah subhanaw taala. And through truth and justice, you establish peace, and you establish equality for people and so on and so forth. My brothers and sisters,

these 12 months for the Muslim year started when the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam migrated from Mecca where he was persecuted him in the Muslims to a place called Medina where they welcomed the prophets, Allah Salam. And you all know the famous story of the called the hijra, the migration, and that was when truly the first Islamic real estate and Empire and strength began. That was the new era of Allah's religion. And when I say the new era, I meant that Islam has always been since the beginning of time since Prophet Adam, all the prophets followed exactly the same message from God or we make no distinctions between them. make no distinction between any of Allah's messengers, whether it was Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, sallAllahu, wasallam, all of them, but what happened was that their people or people who they were sent to, they started changing the religion and it started altering and editing and doing it according to their whims and desires. Even the books which Allah sent down the scriptures they even altered it and changed it so Allah Subhana Allah sent the final messenger Muhammad Sallallahu wasallam with the

final book called the Quran, and it's still with us till today without the change of a single letter. My dear sisters, the shortest one is in our clinical Goethe, which is a line and a half, and we still have Alhamdulillah intact without any omissions additions or alterations in Al hamdu Lillahi Rabbil Alameen. So Allah subhanaw taala chose that day as the day of the hijra, and from there we count our days of Islam. We are now 1442 1442 years since that happened, and we glorify that day.

It was horrible how Tabata the Allahu Anhu the second Khalifa of Islam Kelly, who decided to start out he calendar with Muharram. And the reason he did that was because the Prophet peace be upon him was preparing himself to migrate from Mecca to Medina. As I said it was the new dawn to the new era of Allah's pantallas Islam returning in truth and justice, my brothers and sisters in Islam throughout these years of Islam Wallahi we have so much to celebrate, but at the moment the Muslim world is in strife and in oppression May Allah subhanho wa Taala return us you know and return that the our world back into justice and truth as it was before for all people, brothers and sisters,

please don't make any mistake Islam always Muslims always lived with all people of different religions. And one of the great eras was the one between 786 to about 1286 which you know this they call it in the western world the Islamic Golden Age in which we have Muslim scholars, scholars of Islam like sheiks, molars Imams, who were also scholars of all of modern technology and knowledge. You name it, whether it was maths, astronomy, medicine, Alchemy, chemistry, zoology, botany, pharmacology, art, even even musical instruments. Not very proud about that. But that's another story. We'll talk about it. The point is that they had amazing knowledge in which one of the great

physicians today, Professor Tyson, he says, you can look him up on not Mike Tyson, the other professor Tyson, you can look him up on YouTube. And he says, if these Muslim scholars of that, you know, from from the eighth century to the 11th century still existed till today, they'll win every Nobel Prize, you know, that exists. So they acknowledge that and it's known if you can just make a Google research. Among the most famous names we've got hundreds of Muslim scholar names and they all believed in Allah Samantha and they all believed in Muhammad Sallallahu wasallam. Prophet sallallahu Sallam told us all these Hadith are authentic, and he used to say that it is Allah's mouth which is inside a Muslim. Also the Prophet sallallahu wasallam emphasized on doing extra good deeds and fasting in this month, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he when he migrated from Mecca to Medina, I want you to know this first of all, the Arabs before Islam used to actually fast the 10th of Muharram and this hadith is like Buhari as well. So did the Prophet Muhammad Salah Salem, he is the fastest day so it wasn't the first time however, when he went to Medina, the Muslims in Medina and the people in Medina didn't know about the 10th of Mahatma, but he

found that the Jews, the Jewish neighbors, around Medina, they were fasting this day. And the prophets Allah sallam said, ask them, he said, What is this day to you? And they said, This is the day when God saved Moses and gave him triumphant victory and Save the Children of Israel from the oppressive ruler, Pharaoh and made him and he's army drowned. So the Prophet sallallahu sallam, you know, obviously he really valued that. But he he said to them, I am more worthy of Moses than you. I am more worthy of Moses than you. And then he ordered the rest of the Muslims too fast that day but he said to them, this is a day you know that is special to us and more Sally seller needs to fasted

at a thanks to Allah subhanho wa Taala and we will fast it because we are more worthy of Moses than them. And he said you are free to fast it's voluntary, this hadith in Sahih Muslim as well. And the story of the Jews is also in Behati. So Muhammad wa sallam said that we are more worthy of Moses, because we follow the same religion that Moses followed, right? Even if we don't share the blood, we share the faith

and we share the truth and justice and the Quran only came down also to confirm what was lost in the messages that came before my brothers and sisters in Islam. So fast this Saturday, the 10th of Muharram, the Prophet sallallahu sallam said and this hadith in Sahih Muslim, he said, it will, I hope, and I ask Allah, and when he says, I hope it means that it will happen, that one whole year of your past sins will be forgiven and wiped off. If you fast it. They're the minor sins that we do all the time. Some people said to me, Well, what if I fasted how to fetch remember how to fit the data fed day and it said that you get one year passed and one year forward forgiven of your sins? So what

do I do if I've already made it up? Then the scholars they said, Well, if you fast a 10th of Muharram, instead of sins going, you'll have extra deeds in their place compensated. They'll have extra dates compensated in it as because promises are set and didn't just say forgive he said, graphitic, affirm is to compensate so you can be compensated by forgiveness that can be compensated by good deeds. The Prophet sallallahu Sallam also said, if you can fast the ninth of Muharram and the 11th of Muharram, as well, why the prophesy sentiments to emphasize that we want to do better than what the Jews were doing. Why not just because they're Jews, because the value of what they

were doing was really good. What they were doing was was excellent that commemorating a time when Allah subhanaw taala saved the Muslims because the children of Israel at the time of Moses, though actually Muslim, they they were true followers of Moses, if we were in his time would also follow Moses. But Allah subhanaw taala is telling us that or the Prophet sallallaahu Selim is telling us that we must have should always be racing to do good before others as much as we can. with good deeds, with values with charity with with excellence with Be good to your neighbors, be good to your guests be good to your to people that you deal with Be good to your family, and you be initiators don't sit back, and quarreling, and arguing and complaining and complaining and complaints is all I see on social media these days. So my brothers and sisters in Islam, and Muslims come to Hydra on muddiness. collegiately, unless you are the best of Nations sent to the people why? Because you command good and pre prohibit evil so be initiators of that, and not people who are negative and put people off my dear brothers and sisters, and I'm sure many of my brothers sisters

are hamdulillah courageous lions who go out and they are full of empathy and goodness insha Allah who died, my brothers and sisters, so increase in your good deeds in this Muharram faster the 10th day of Muharram May Allah subhanaw taala accepted from you. I ask Allah Subhana Allah to unite our families and our relatives and our friends and unites people upon truth and justice, and that allows me to lift the hardship and this you know, this disease in the world. And and when I say disease, I don't mean just the epidemic sickness, I mean, the sicknesses of the hearts the sicknesses, of oppression of people's lands and People's Rights and people's bodies and people's everything. May

Allah subhanaw taala bring back justice and truth in this world. And meaning out of that I mean, I thank you for listening was Salam alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
