She initially gained prominence as a journalist working for various British newspapers, including The Sunday Times, The Observer, and The Independent on Sunday. Her career took a dramatic turn in 2001 when she was captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan while working as a correspondent for The Sunday Express. After her release, Ridley began studying Islam, ultimately converting in 2003.

Ridley is a prominent figure in the Muslim community and a vocal critic of Western foreign policies, particularly those concerning the Middle East. She has authored several books, including In the Hands of the Taliban, which details her captivity and subsequent conversion. Ridley has also been a political activist, running for office in the United Kingdom on several occasions, notably with the Respect Party, which was co-founded by George Galloway.

Ridley resides in the United Kingdom, where she continues to be an active voice in both journalism and public speaking. She has delivered lectures worldwide on issues related to Islam, women’s rights, and global justice.
