Aqeel Mahmood – Tafseer of Surat AlQadr
AI: Summary ©
The transcript discusses the importance of the "week of the Parouska" in the Bible, as it is a continuation of the previous Surah and is recognized as a day in Islam. The title "verily we have revealed it" is used in Islam, and the importance of worship during the night of the day is discussed. The importance of worship during the day and the best day of the year are also discussed, along with the importance of pace in worship and setting goals for the month. The church's predictions of doing more acts of worship during the month of december are not fully true, but the church is confident in their predictions.
AI: Summary ©
Last week, we finished the
of Surah Bayina.
And today, as
we mentioned last week, we're going to be,
doing the of
Surah Al Qadr.
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala he says in this
Surah in,
and
indeed we sent the Quran down
during the night of decree.
And what can make you know what is
the night of decree?
The night of decree is better than a
1000 months.
The angels and the spirit descend therein by
permission of the lord for every matter.
Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.
This Surah the
majority of the scholars they say it's a
which
means it was revealed before the of the
messenger of Allah
And some of them they say it's a
Surah
and some of them say that is one
of the first or the very first
Surah which was revealed.
So as soon as the messenger of Allah
made his hijrah to Madinah, this was the
first Surah revealed. But but as I mentioned,
the majority of the scholars they say that
this Surah is a Surah.
And this Surah consists of 5
aya's. Five aya's which we just recited right
now.
And with regard to the arrangement of this
Surah and where this Surah comes in the
Quran,
It comes after and
before
and when we were talking about
we talked about why these particular Surah's, these
3 Surah's come
together.
Surah Alak which is
is the first Surah which was revealed.
And
after this Surah, meaning Surah Alak,
Surah Qadr is revealed.
Okay. Or Surah Qadr is,
mentioned. Okay. So Surah Qadr comes after Surah
Alak.
And one of the wisdoms and one of
the Hikma behind this
is that
after the first Surah is revealed,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is telling us when
it was revealed.
So after Surah Iqra comes,
okay, which is the very first revelation
sent by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to the
messenger of Allah
straight after this, Allah is telling us when
the Quran was revealed
in the very revealed in revealed it in
the night of decree.
And then after this
is is is mentioned.
The the next Surah is Surah Bayina.
And the reason why this is mentioned according
to some of the scholars is because
Bayina talks about the content of the Quran
and the Quran being crystal clear because Bayina
itself means crystal clear something which is absolutely
clear.
Okay. So this is with regards to why
the Surah is revealed
in this particular order and where it's situated
in the Quran.
Also because the scholars say it's a continuation
of the previous Surah. It's a continuation
of Surah Alak.
And we talk about why they say it's
a continuation of that Surah. Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala
in this Surah he starts off by saying
in a
and verily we revealed or we sent down
the Quran
during the night of decree or during the
night of power. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala he
starts by saying in a verily we
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is 1. So
why does Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala mention the
plural? Why does he say we? Because he's
not referring to anybody else except himself.
So the reason why he mentions we, he
mentions the plural form is as a sign
of his majesty.
As a sign of his, you know, his
power.
Okay. We mentioned this before as well with
regards to royalty that sometimes they say, we
have decreed such and such. Okay? It's a
sign of power and a sign of, majesty
on that person's on that person's,
you know, on on that person's part, you
know, on the for that particular person. So
likewise, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
you know, he's far higher and more majestic
than any of his creation. So Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, he says in even though he's
on he's he's one and he's just alone,
Allah
says in to show his majesty.
Allah
says in verily,
we
sent it down.
What is being talked about here?
What was being sent down?
The Quran.
Was the whole Quran revealed on the night
of decree?
So why is it mentioned
like this? Why does Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
say, We have sent it down in the
night of decree. As if the whole of
the Quran was revealed in the night of
decree. Why is that the case?
No?
Okay. Good. Good.
So
the scholars,
they talk about,
why
it's mentioned as all of it being revealed
on the night of decree.
And we revealed it on the night of
decree as if he is talking about the
whole Quran.
One of the reasons is that it's referring
to the
in the previous Surah. The previous Surah was
Surah Alak.
The first Surah which was revealed. So it's
as if it's a continuation of the previous
Surah. So it's as if Allah is saying
verily we revealed it meaning those in
Surah Alak and the night of decree because
the Quran was revealed on the night of
decree. The first revealed
on so it's as if Allah
is saying verily we revealed it in the
night of meaning
those in Surah Alak. The second thing as
the brother mentioned
is there's a narration of and
others who said that Allah
sent down
all of the Quran
in,
to the heavens of this world or to
the to the house of from
Allah.
So Allah
ordered the Quran to be written and is
recorded in
in the preserved tablet, which is with Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And then from the preserved tablet, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala sent down the whole of the
Quran
from the preserved tablet to
the
house of might which is in the heavens
of this world.
Okay? So it's a place we can't see
it. We don't know where it is, but
it's in the heavens of this world. So
the Quran was revealed completely and totally from
the to
to the house of the house of honor,
the house of might, which is in this
world. And then from the heavens of this
world,
it was revealed
in parts, in segments to the messenger of
Allah
over a period of 23 years. So what
he's referring to here is the whole of
the Quran being sent down from Allah
from the preserved tablet to Beitul Azzam.
Another thing which the scholars say is
that what this means
in
the
very revealed it in the night of Qadr.
What it
mean it started to be revealed in
the night of decree.
So it started to be revealed
in the letter Qadr. So it doesn't mean
that the whole of the Quran was revealed
and sent under the messenger of Allah
on the night of decree. But what it
means is that it started revelation started to
come in the night of decree and then
it carried on for for 23 years. So
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
he says in
verily we have sent it down. And here
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is mentioning 2 very
important things. Okay. One of the things he
mentions
is
who revealed it.
He says
in we have revealed it.
And this is in response to the people,
of,
the time of the messenger of Allah
who weren't worshiping Allah. Okay. The disbelievers
who said it wasn't revelation from Allah. Okay.
They said it wasn't revelation from Allah and
it was, you know, something he's made up
and it's his own way.
Okay. So it's a response to them. And
then Allah says,
verily we have revealed it. We have sent
it down. Okay? Because they used to say
that it was poetry.
Okay? So Allah is saying this is the
Quran. It's the word of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
This is what is being sent down. So
it's responding to those people who said that
it was poetry. That is the words of
a madman, that is the spouse of of
this of this magician.
So in these two words, Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala is responding to these 2 different types
of people or you know, these 2 different
arguments that the disbelievers
would would would mention
with regards to Islam and the revelation.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he then says
verily we have sent it down in the
night of decree or the night of power.
And first of all Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
says
in the night. And this proves and it
shows that the Quran was sent down during
the night.
That the first revelation was sent down in
the night and it wasn't sent down during
the day.
The word
literally it means power or decree.
Okay? And here it means
a a great night or a noble night.
Leila Azima, a great night or Leila
shut off. There's a there's a nobility to
this night. There's an honor to this night.
Why is there an honor to this night?
Because the Quran was revealed.
Okay? Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he says
Allah says in another
verily we have sent it down on a
blessed night, meaning the Quran.
So this night is a night which is
blessed. It's a night which is a night
which is honored. And also Allah says Quran.
The month of Ramadan in which the Quran
was revealed.
And as we said literally, it means power
or decree. And it's as if it's like
when for example they say in the Arabic
language they say
They say so and so has a position
or a power over so and so. He
has more of a status.
Yeah. Or someone,
they say
They say this person has this authority or
he has this, you know, importance attached to
him. Okay? So other refers to something which
is important, something which has nobility.
Okay? And there's nothing which is more noble
than the Quran.
So the Quran here is being
sent down in a night which is important.
The layla of the night of decree. And
this book which is being sent down is
also important. The book of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. And the angel which is sending down
and bringing down the ayat from the Quran
is also important. The the the greatest angel
who ever lived Jibreel Alaihi Salam.
And also on top of this the person
who is receiving the revelation also has Sharaf.
He also has nobility.
The greatest man who ever lived is the
messenger of Allah Alaihi Salam
and is being sent to an which is
the greatest
which is the most important So
it's as if Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
saying that this
importance
will
increase the more that they worship and devote
themselves to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala on this
specific day. On the night of Qadr.
On the
night of decree.
So this shows us the value of this
of this day. The fact that Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala's you know words are coming down
on this day and this this day is
being recognized
simply because the Quran was being was being
revealed on this day.
So what is the
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he says in the
next
what can make you know what is the
night of decree? Meaning, you can't even begin
to imagine the greatness of this night. This
night is so great. You can't even begin
to imagine how great this night is. And
then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala goes into more
detail about this night specifically. And he says
in the 3rd ayah
and he repeats the word
3 times in this in this surah. Three
times he repeats So
So he's repeating this, you know,
the the day the the name of this
day three times. So why does he keep
repeating this? Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is showing
us
and emphasizing
the importance of this day. The importance of
this specific night, the night of decree. You
know, if I said for to you, for
example,
if I said,
look at that man over there.
Do you know who that man is?
That man and then I'll tell you who
that person is. So I'm gonna repeat the
same thing because that person is someone important.
He has some he's someone who has status.
Okay? So likewise, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
emphasizing
He never said
here. And what do you think about what
it is? He says,
what do you think is?
Is a night which is greater than a
1000 months. So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala keeps
on repeating it. Showing the importance of this
day. And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala here he
says that it's better than a 1000 months.
And if we
change that and we convert it to years,
it comes to 83 years.
So, subhanAllah, just this night on its own
is
greater than 83 years. It's not even equivalent
to 18 to 83 years. You know, some
people say, the night of decree is equivalent
to 83 years. But here Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala says,
means better.
Okay. For example, the shayta what the shaytan
say?
I am better than him. I'm not the
same as him. I'm better than him. So
here Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,
it's even better than a 1000 nights. It's
not equivalent to a one. It's not it's
not it's even better than 83 years.
Okay? Or a 1,000 nights. Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala doesn't limit its greatness.
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala doesn't say it's
equivalent to such and such as equivalent to
a 1000 months which is at 83 years.
He says it's even greater than 83 years.
It's even better than that. And he doesn't
put a limit on how greater it is.
He leaves it to the imagination.
So it's even better than a 1000 nights.
Now how is it better? What does it
mean when we say that it's better than
a 1000
months?
In what way is it better?
With regards to a person's acts of worship.
So when a person worships Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala,
if
he worshiped Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala nonstop
for 83 years,
it wouldn't be the same as him worshiping
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
in this in this one single night.
Him worshipping Allah
in this single night is better better than
him worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for 83
years.
So subhanahu wa ta'ala shows you the the
status and the the value of this day.
You know it really shows puts things into
perspective.
Just singling out this one night. Finding this
one night. This day of this night of
decree. And worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in
this one night is better for a person
than if he was to worship Allah for
83 years. It's even better than that.
Okay
and the days for the believer
aren't made better because Allah says it's better
than a 1000 months. Okay, the days of
a believer
aren't better because of you know, the weather
that takes place on that day or you
know, how much money a person makes but
it's
with regards to how much acts of worship
he does in those days.
Okay. That's whether
that's a good indication of whether that day
was a good day or a bad day.
How much acts of worship he did? And
this is why
I think I mentioned this before where he
said that
I never regretted anything more
than a day which went by in which
I never increased in doing good deeds. Because
he felt like as if he had wasted
that whole day.
So when
believers look at days, okay, days which are
better are days in which we did more
acts of worship. Those days are better than
other days in which we never did as
many good deeds and as many acts of
worship. So this night,
a person
should incur, should be encouraged
and should strive to perform as many good
deeds as he can. Okay? He should be
worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, praying to Allah,
worshipping Allah in the whole of the night
so that he can get the reward of
a person who, you know did good deeds
for 83 years and even more than this.
For a 1000 months and even more than
this. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala then says in
the 4th
He said the angels and the spirit descend
therein by permission of their lord for every
matter.
So,
after Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala talks about the
value
of the Surah or Afwan, the value of
this night, the value of the night of
decree, then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala talks about
what actually takes place on this night.
What kind of things happen on this night?
Why is it so different in terms of
the atmosphere and what takes place specifically on
this night? And he says that the angels
and the spirit descend
therein by permission of the Lord for every
matter.
So the angels descend
during it because of the immense blessings in
it.
So
the angels only descend when there's something good
happening.
Okay? Be like the hadith of the prophet
where
he said that the angels
when people gather,
no people gather in one of the houses
of Allah remembering
Allah will recite in the Quran studying it
together. Except that the angels
come down. Okay? And they lower their wings.
So the angels only come down
and good things are being done. And here
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is mentioning all of
them. That
the angels
descend during it.
That they descend during this night. The
and the spirit
descends.
And
the scholars they say the spirit here is
referring to the angel Jibril.
So the angel Jibril here is,
being referred to as
a Rooh.
Okay? And this is why,
the the scholars say when they talk about
Mariam Alaihi Salam and that incident there is
a difference of opinion with regards to
the in that you know in that eye
as well. So here Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
he says that the angels descend and also
also the descendants. Why is Jibril Alaihi Salam
specifically singled out here?
Why is he specifically singled out? Because of
his status and
of his, you know, his importance compared to
the rest of the angels. Because he's the
greatest angel, he's given special significance. He's given
special status, and he's mentioned specifically,
you know, out of all the rest out
out of all the other angels,
he's specifically
mentioned. And then Allah
says
that the angels and the spirit descend therein
by permission of their lord. So nothing happens
except with the permission of Allah
Even on this night, even the descending of
the angels, it only happens because Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala wishes for it to happen. Okay.
Even though it's a blessed night, okay, the
angels don't do anything except without the permission
of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Okay? Allah says, they don't disobey Allah and
they do whatever they ordered to do by
Allah
They do whatever they're told to do by
Allah
And then Allah says
by the permission of their lord.
Which
means for every matter.
That the angels and the spirits descend
therein by permission of the Lord for every
matter. So what does this mean for every
matter or in every matter? Some of the
scholars they say what this means
is that all matters
are determined
in this night.
Okay, so some of the scholars they say
that on this night,
things are determined for the rest of the
year. For example,
who is going to die for the rest
of the year?
And
night of decree. And how much money is
a person going to make? All the affairs
of this world, okay, everything to do with
this world, all matters are determined
on that night.
In every matter, these things are determined on
this night, on the night of decree. And
this is why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
he says in
he
says
in
it every matter is decreed. In he talks
about
we have revealed this
this Quran
in a blessed night. And then a couple
of hours later he says
in in it every matter is decreed. Meaning
on this night everything is decided. Who is
going to die? How much money they're going
to make? And so on and so forth.
Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.
Another group of scholars, they say,
okay. What this means is that this night
is completely going to be engulfed and encompassed
and covered with peace.
Okay? Because in the next ayah, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala says salaam,
which means peace.
So
Meaning every single matter, in every single matter
on this specific night, there's going to be
peace.
Peace in every matter on this night until
dawn.
Okay, the believer is going to be protected.
Okay, there's no harm that's going to be
for him. Shaitan isn't going to be able
to cause harm to anyone on this night.
When a person is
when a person is worshipping Allah, when he's
standing before Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, he's able
to worship Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and peace
engulfs him and engulfs this whole night.
So this is with regards to
the tafsir
of the Surah Surah Al Qadr. And what
I wanted to do was just talk about
for a while. Okay? Talk about
some other virtues of this night. What the
prophet said with regards to this night. When
this night is? Do we know when this
night is going to be? You know,
signs, if there's any signs of when this
night is from the Quran and the sunnah,
What's the best day of the year? Is
it the best day of the year? Which
night which night as which nights are more
superior? Or is this not the most superior
day? Is it the same day every year?
What should you what should you do specifically
on that day and so on and so
forth? So with regards to some of the
hadith which talk about
one of the hadith which you know we
can mention
in this part talking about the virtues of
is
a hadith narration in Bukhari and Muslim and
other books of hadith where the messenger of
Allah
he said
whoever stands
the night of decree, meaning he stands and
prays the night of decree.
Whoever stands in the night of decree,
out of faith and in the hope of
its reward.
All his past sins will be forgiven.
So this is the status of the night
of decree. If a person stands in the
night of decree and he's doing it out
of Iman, out of faith. Purely for the
sake of Allah. And he's doing it for
the reward of Allah
hoping for Allah's reward. Then all his previous
sins are going to be forgiven.
And there's there's other hadith which we'll talk
about as well which going to you know
when
the night of decree is an in incidents
which took place with the messenger of Allah
so when is the night of decree?
When does
actually take place? We're not told
clearly
in the sunnah or in the Quran when
actually is.
Okay?
The messenger of Allah
gave us certain hints
and clues about when
is. Okay? And
there's
a hadith in which the messenger of Allah
he
came out
with news of when
is going to be. This hadith is in
Bukhari.
It said that he came out of of
his home and he was going to tell
the people about Leila Tulkadr.
And when he came out, he saw 2
Muslims arguing with one another.
And then he said to them, I came
out to tell you about Leila Tulkadr,
but
so and so was arguing with so and
so so that knowledge was taken away from
me. And then he said perhaps
this is better for you and then he
said so seek it on the 27th
and the 29th and the 25th
of Ramadan.
Okay, so these dates are specifically mentioned.
Okay? And there's other hadith which were mentioned
as well which talk about the last 10
nights of Ramadan.
Okay? So there's a hadith which talk about
the last 10 nights of Ramadan, and then
the messenger of
goes into more detail and mentions the odd
nights of Ramadan. All the hadith,
they mention odd nights with regard to the
month of Ramadan. To my knowledge. Okay. They
don't mention the even nights. They mention the
odd nights. Okay so you have the general
hadith
which mentions Ramadan.
The messenger
says seek the the night of decree in
the last 10 nights of Ramadan. And then
there's details. There's a hadith which mentions which
mentions specifics.
The odd nights. The 25th or if in
in this hadith for example the 27th,
the 29th, and the 25th.
Okay?
So, why didn't Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tell
us when it is?
Okay? Why specifically was it taken away? Why
was it taken away from us? Why don't
we have an idea about when specifically
this night is going to be? Shouldn't he
have told us, Yandi? If it's the best
night ever,
okay, then shouldn't we know what night it
is so that we can worship Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala a lot on that night.
If Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala had told us,
okay, imagine if Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala had
told us what night it was. If it
was a 25th or 27th or 23rd or
21st or 29th or whichever day. If Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala had told us what day
it was,
then the whole of Ramadan,
okay, the person wouldn't do anything.
Okay. He'd just wait for that specific day.
Okay. He just chilled the whole of Ramadan.
He'll wait for that specific day to come,
and then he'll do acts of worship on
that specific day.
Okay?
So the mentality
and the reason behind this is so that
the Muslim is proactive when it comes to
worshiping Allah.
Okay. Because really, only the lazy person will
want to know specifically what day it is.
Why would you really wanna know what day
it is? So that you can take it
easy.
Okay. And then when that day comes, you
can start worshiping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala a
lot. Whereas a Muslim, his mindset should be,
I'm going to take advantage
of the last 10 days of Ramadan because
it could be in any of those days,
in the last 10 days of Ramadan.
So he makes the effort in those last
10 days of Ramadan worshiping
subhanahu wa ta'ala. And this is for his
own benefit as well. Because he's being rewarded
for the acts and the, you know, the
good deeds that he's doing and acts of
worship that he's doing. So he himself is
benefiting.
So it's something which is in fact a
blessing in disguise. It's a blessing from Allah
that he hasn't told us what day it
is.
So that we can worship Allah and we
can increase in doing good deeds. And this
is from the Hikman, the wisdom of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And with regards to
specifically what day it is and when it
is,
some of the scholars, Ibra Rahimahullah,
he says that there's 40 opinions about when
it takes place.
Okay. So over 40 opinions
about
when the night of decree actually take takes
place. And as I mentioned there's a hadith
of the messenger
in which he said seek it meaning seek
in the odd numbered night of the last
10 nights of Ramadan.
Okay. Seek it in the last in the
odd numbered nights, in the last 10 nights
of Ramadan.
Okay. Which are 5. The 21st, 23rd, 25th,
27th, and
29th.
Okay. So seek it in the odd numbered
nights of the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
So
generally the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
More specifically,
the odd nights in the last 10 nights
of the month of Ramadan.
Now
there are some signs,
okay, of
that day.
There's
a sound report,
a sound hadith
which indicates
that one of the signs of
is that
when the sun rises
on the following morning after that night finishes,
that sun will rise and it won't have
no visible rays.
So it's gonna be a rayless
sunrise.
There's not gonna be no rays coming out,
coming off the sun. And the Hadith mentioned
it's gonna be like like like a clear
moon at night. There's not gonna be no
rays, okay, coming out when the sun rises.
That's one of the signs
of but obviously you only know
after that night. Okay? So a person worships
Allah. The idea is that you worship Allah
Subhanahu wa ta'ala and you won't know until
after, okay, as an incentive for the person
to keep on worshiping Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
and to increase in his good deeds. There
are other signs
which mention,
which are mentioned in some hadith or in
one particular
one particular hadith, but
this hadith isn't completely authentic. It's it's a
grade lower than sahir. Okay. It's a hadith.
It's a sound hadith. And some of the
scholars say that it's, you know, some of
the wording and some of the narrations are
a bit, you know, there's there's
there's there's some questions regarding, you know, this
specific hadith. So this hadith it mentions other
things. It mentions for example that it's gonna
be a still night. Okay. It's not gonna
be a night which is gonna be windy.
It's gonna be a still night. Also it's
not gonna be a night which is gonna
be hot or cold. And also there's not
gonna be no shooting stars that are going
to appear on that night. So these things
are mentioned. Okay. But but as I said,
this hadith which mentions these things,
you know, they're not completely,
it's not a completely authentic hadith. And,
the the scholars, they say that this text
is there's some oddities with regards to the
text and some of
the wording is objectionable
this. So, you know, that's not something which
we, you know,
rely on with regards to finding out when
the night of decree, is the messenger of
Allah
in another hadith.
It's mentioned that he performed
during the first 10 nights of Ramadan.
And the companions performed the with him. Okay?
So they stayed in the Masjid and they
were praying during the night. And then
came to him and said, what you are
seeing in front of you, meaning what?
For night of decree. What you're seeking is
in front of you. So then the prophet
he prayed in
the middle 10 days of Ramadan.
And then
came to him again and he said that
which you are seeking is ahead of you
again a second time.
And the messenger of Allah
he stood up and he gave a sermon
on the morning of 20th of Ramadan.
And he said,
whoever performed
with me, let him come, let him come
back for
again. For verily I saw the night of
Al Qadr.
And I was caused to forget it and
indeed it is during the last 10 nights.
The last 10 nights of the month of
Ramadan.
And he
said, it is during an odd night. And
this hadith,
is in, Bukharian Muslim. He says,
it is during an odd night
and I saw myself. So the prophet is
saying, I saw myself in this dream
as if I were prostrating
in mud and water.
And the companions they say, that the roof
of the Masjid was made of dried palm
tree leaves. Okay? And they say we didn't
see anything. Meaning, we never saw no clouds
in the sky.
Okay, so what does this mean? The prophet
is
had a dream about the night of Qadr,
the night of decree. And he's saying that
I saw myself prostrating in mud and water,
which means he must have
rain for there to be mud on the
ground. Okay? And the roof was made of
palm tree leaves, so rain would come through.
And there was no carpet in those days
in the prophet's message. There was just sand.
Okay? It was just soil. So whenever it
would rain, obviously they would they would get
mud on their foreheads and mud on their
clothes. Okay? So the prophet is saying
that I saw myself prostrating in mud and
water. And the companions they are saying we
looked up in in the sky and we
never saw any clouds in the sky. And
then they said we saw
they said but then a patch of wind
driven clouds came and it started to rain.
Okay? And then the prophet
he led us in prayer until we saw
the traces of mud and water on the
forehead of the messenger of Allah. So now
the prophecies come true because the dreams of
the prophets are true. So now this prophecies
come true and he confirmed his dream. Okay?
And in one narration of this hadith, it
mentions
that this occurred on the morning of 21st
night.
Okay? So it actually took place that night
was the 21st night.
Okay? Because in the Arabic calendar, in the
Islamic calendar,
the night comes before the day.
So the night comes and after the night,
finishes, the day comes and it's the same
day. And then when Maghrib comes, it's a
new day basically.
Okay? So they said that this was the
21st night. Okay? And the scholars have said
that this hadith is the most authentic of
what's been reported with regards to when
is actually going to be.
Okay?
Now another question which arises is, is this
the best day of the year?
What is the best day of the year?
Okay?
The scholars they say,
the day of Arafa
is the best day of the year. There's
no day which is better than the day
of Arafa.
But then they say the best night
is
later to Qadr.
Okay? So the best day is day of
Arafa. The best night is later.
Okay? So this is what they say with
regards to what is the best day and
what is the best year.
Oh, well, what is the best day and
what is the best night of the year?
Also, with regards to which night is superior,
some of,
the scholars they would discuss which night is
more superior.
Is it the night of Qadr or the
night of decree?
Or is it
the night of ascension.
When the prophet
you know traveled to Jerusalem and then he
went into the heavens.
So which night is better?
Which night is more superior?
He says that with regards to the Islam
and Mi'raj,
okay, the ascension of the messenger of Allah
he says this night is superior
for the messenger of Allah
So that night is better for him.
And with regards to,
this night is more superior
for the rest of his for the Muslims
as a whole.
So this is what says.
His student also says,
the same thing. And what's important to note
here is that Allah
has specifically,
you know,
prescribed for us
worship
on.
But with regards to the night of ascension,
the night of there's
nothing that's been mentioned with regards to doing
extra acts of worship.
Okay. The messenger of Allah,
he would never do extra, you know, acts
of worship on this night.
Okay?
One of the reasons
is because and
or another reason that we can say that,
the
laser cutter, the night of decree is better
is because
the night of Isra wal Mi'raj isn't known.
We don't know specifically what night that was.
And in fact, there's even a difference of
opinion with regards to what month that took
place.
Okay? So there's no specific night which has
been authentically narrated that
the
took place on that specific night or even
in a specific month. Okay? So there's difference
of opinion. But with regards to
something which is known amongst us is something
which has,
been mentioned in the Quran and also mentioned
in the sunnah of the messenger of Allah
And another question which arises with regards to
is
is it the same day every year?
Is it, for example, the 27th night every
single year?
Or is it, you know, the 25th every
single year? Or does it change? So last
year, maybe, let's say, it was the 23rd.
This year, it might be the 27th. The
next year, it might be 29th.
The scholars, they say,
from them, the Sheikh
He
says that it changes from year to year.
So it's not the same day every year.
It's not the 27th every single year or
the 25th every single year or the 29th
every single year. Okay? He says it changes
every single year. Because the messenger of Allah
you know, when he saw the dream,
he saw the dream and then he prayed,
what night was that?
The 21st.
But then after this,
he said, seek it in the last 10
nights of Ramadan.
Okay. So he never said seek it on
the 21st.
He said seek it in the last 10
nights of Ramadan. So if it was always
the 21st, then he would have said it's
always the 21st.
Okay? But it's it it's constantly changing. It's
always changing. So we say that,
you know, it it could take place on
any one of the nights of the last
10 nights of the month of Ramadan.
Also what should a person do on that
day?
What is it that a person is required
to do
on the night of decree?
The messenger of Allah
he would stay up on this night and
he would encourage his family, he would wake
them up, and he would worship Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala and he would remember Allah as
and he would spend his night worshiping Allah
Subhanahu wa ta'ala on this day. And he
would strive harder in worship in the last
10 days than in the last 10 days
of Ramadan than in any other time in
Ramadan or outside of Ramadan.
Okay? So he would increase in his acts
of worship.
So it's recommended for a person when the
last 10 nights of Ramadan come to start
increasing in your acts of worship. To do
more than you were doing, you know, at
the beginning of Ramadan, in mid Ramadan, you
should be actually doing much more in the
last 10 nights of Ramadan than you were
doing at the beginning of Ramadan.
She asked the messenger of Allah
she said which dua should I recite on
that night? Which dua should I say? Should
I recite? And the messenger of Allah he
said
say Allah
oh Allah you are forgiving, You love forgiveness
so forgive me. Allah
Okay? So this is a dua which the
messenger of Allah he would recommend us to
say and you know,
he would recommend us to supplicate and make
this dua in the last 10 nights of
the month of Ramadan.
And also it's another important point which I
wanted to make was with regards
to
pacing ourself in Ramadan. You know now that
we know the value of the last 10
nights of Ramadan
and the value of
okay and how important it is and how,
you know, we were encouraged by the prophet
to actually seek out this month, to seek
out this day in the month of Ramadan.
We need to,
you know, really pace ourself with regards to
our acts of worship.
Because a lot of the time, what happens
is a person starts the month of Ramadan
and he's in 5th gear. You know, he's
in he's in turbo mode. Okay. And then
a week goes by or 10 days go
by and he's totally burnt out. Okay. After
7 days, after 10 days, he's got no
more energy left.
You know? And the poor guy, the the
next 20 days, he's just just about getting
by, you know, just about fasting and attending
to our prayers. And that's what he can
do. You know? So it's very important for
a person to pace himself.
Okay. To take things, you know, step by
step. And even if he starts off doing
lesser,
you know, acts of worship at the beginning
and then building up
to the last 10 nights, that's something which
is better for him because the last 10
nights are better
than the other 20 days of Ramadan.
Okay? Now this doesn't mean that you just
chill out and not do anything until the
last night of Ramadan. Okay? That's not what
you do. Okay. You make sure you're doing
good deals in the month of Ramadan. But
my point is that you don't wanna end
up coming into the last 10 nights of
Ramadan, and you've got no energy left. You
know? And the novelty is worn off. Okay?
And, you know, you just the buzz has
gone of Ramadan. Ramadan, he was kind of
going away now. It should be the opposite.
Okay. A person should be building up towards
that's the crescendo.
That's what you should be building up. That's
the peak.
Okay. The last 10 nights are the peak.
Okay. So the first 10, 20 days should
be a warm up to the last 10
nights of the month of Ramadan. So when
the last 10 nights of Ramadan actually come,
okay, he's able to do lots more worship
in those 10 nights than he did in
the other nights of the month of Ramadan.
Just like the
messenger
would do when he would witness the last
nights of Ramadan.
So we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that
he gives us the ability to be able
to witness
and to be able to do as many
good deeds and,
as many acts of worship as we can,
on that night and that Allah
accept our accepts our good deeds from us
inshallah.
So the
yeah. So the scholars say that with regards
to,
them being
the chosen Ummah, they were the chosen Ummah
of their generation.
Okay? Just like for example, when the the
prophets would say,
you you have chosen me
for you have chosen me over the rest
of
mankind. Or they say
and I am the first of the Muslims.
So this the the messengers, they would always
say, I am the first of the Muslims.
Musa Alai Salam said it said it in
the Quran. Other prophets said it. But it
doesn't mean that they were the first Muslims,
you know,
full stop. What it means is they were
the first Muslims of their generation. So likewise,
Bari Israel were the chosen people of their
generation, of their time, at that moment in
time, they were the people chosen by Allah.
Okay. Now the first revelation.
We revealed it in the night of decree.
Meaning, the first revelation came during the night.
In the famous story, the prophet was in
the cave. Okay? And he was at night
because he would go there to meditate and
it was revealed to him at night.
But generally, the Quran was revealed during the
night and also during the day. But specifically,
the first revelation came during the night. And
this is this proves it. You know, in
Nanzan, now we revealed it in the night
of decree, that it was revealed specifically in
the night.
So the one that's that the scholars say,
you know, is from, a from sound narrations
is that,
the sun will rise the following morning after
that night, after the night of decree is
going to rise without any race. That's what
sound. Okay. That's what the scholars say is
from sound a hadith from sound narrations, from
good narrations.
From authentic narrations. The others, the other hadith
that they mentioned or the other signs that
they mentioned are from a hadith which aren't
completely authentic. They're not fully, they're not as
authentic as, you know, the hadith which mentions
the sun.
So they mentioned, for example, that the night
is going to be a still night. It's
not gonna be windy. And they mentioned it's
not gonna be hot or cold. And also
they mentioned that there's not gonna be no
shooting stars on that night.
Shooting stars.
Yeah.
But as I said, those, you know,
those are hadith. They're not completely authentic.
Possibly.
Possibly.
Yeah.
So, obviously, Allah
knows everything that's going to happen and everything
they decreed and Allah knows whatever is going
to happen,
you know, in the future.
But with regards to,
how things
operate
in this dunya, in this world, then Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, the scholars say that Allah
every, you know, every day, okay, or or
he'll pick one day of the year where
things are,
recorded with regards to what's going to happen
for the next for the next, you know,
for the next year, who is going to
die, and how much money a person is
going to make. So that's what's mentioned with
regards to, you know,
why Allah,
why Allah
does this.
Okay.
