joining us on YouTube for once again our
Blessed Voyage webinar with Al Maghrib Institute and
Sheikh Ammar Shukri.
Al Maghrib is, Alhamdulillah, honored to be able
to take one of our premier travel experiences,
the Blessed Voyage Umrah, happening November 23rd to
December 1st.
That's going to be available through blessed, sorry,
blessedvoyage.com and Sheikh Ammar Shukri is one
of our instructors.
You heard from Ustada Tania Zubair earlier this
week, Alhamdulillah, this past Monday.
If you've missed it, please do make sure
you check out the session on the recording
if you've already been sent it via the
webinar RSVP or on YouTube, inshallah, so that
you can benefit from the amazing gems that
she shared and she really gave us a
lot to think about, Alhamdulillah, in that session.
Today, of course, we're going to get a
chance to benefit from Sheikh Ammar.
Many of you know him already.
He's our director of academic, sorry, he's our
director at Al Maghrib of Faith Essentials.
He's, mashallah, one of our premier scholars.
He teaches classes on site across the globe
as well as online through Al Maghrib online,
occasionally through virtually through Al Maghrib virtual and
Alhamdulillah, he leads a lot of our travel
experiences through Blessed Voyage, so he's one of
our most experienced leads at blending the spiritual,
the fun, the learning experience, Alhamdulillah, while you're
navigating a new space that has historical and
spiritual significance to us as Muslims.
Of course, Umrah is always going to be
an unforgettable and a special experience, but as
you guys, many of you may be preparing
for it or dreaming for it, you probably
know that there's a lot of anxieties that
can come up, there's a lot of questions,
there's a lot of worries that come up
in your preparation process for Umrah and Alhamdulillah,
not only are we well-versed in, you
know, providing that support to you guys as
you're preparing, regardless of who you're going with,
but we also are able to facilitate an
incredible Umrah experience for those.
There we go, that's me.
I just want to check to see if
there's anybody on YouTube, please feel free to
shout yourselves out, let us know if you,
where you're coming in from, say your salams
here in the chat on Zoom, and please
do edit your names on Zoom if you
can, to show us your locations, because Mashallah,
we have a very international audience that is
attending in person, we have folks from Europe,
we have folks from Canada, the U.S.,
the U.K., and around the world, so
if you guys are attending with us, let
yourself, shout yourselves out, let us know in
the chat if you're already registered for this
November Umrah with Al Maghrib, and if not,
if you're interested, feel free to let us
know as well.
With that said, what are your anxieties about
this, about Umrah in general?
I know we have, we had quite a
few amazing questions that showed up in our
last session with Usada Tania Zuberis, let us
know what are the things that you have
questions about, that you're concerned about, and especially
if you're a first-timer, I'm sure those
questions are plentiful.
The ones that typically come up that I
recall is, you know, people worried that they
won't be able to maximize or remember all
the spiritual things that, all the ways that
they can gain reward while they're in the
holy places because, in the holy cities, because
they're overwhelmed by the experience itself, or they're
tired by the travel, and they can't recall
what to do and when to do it,
and they're afraid that they'll misstep, that's something
that comes up very often.
A lot of sisters I know have concerns
often about menstruation, how to manage that, will
their Umrah be accepted, what to do, when
to do it, and how to prepare ahead
of time, and then, of course, all the
ritualistic aspects of Umrah.
There's a lot of this preparation, Alhamdulillah, we
tend to do beforehand when our groups are
preparing, the few weeks before the actual departure,
and Alhamdulillah, with this being in November, we
are going to be starting that very soon
with those of you who are already registered
and who have secured your seat for this
unforgettable experience, InshaAllah.
But yes, let us know here in the
chat or let us know into the YouTube
chat as well, if you have any anxieties
that you would like us to address, InshaAllah,
today.
We will have time at the end of
the session for questions for Shaykh Ammar so
that you guys can, you know, get a
chance to ask him while you have him
here.
Of course, if you're already registered for Blessed
Voyage, InshaAllah, you'll have plenty of opportunities ahead
of the sessions, you know, ahead of the
departure and then during the entire Umrah experience,
InshaAllah.
And let us know again if you're coming
in for the first time, how you found
out about Maghrib or how you found out
about Blessed Voyage, and whether, again, you're planning
for this season or you're planning for the
future, this webinar will be relevant.
This is information that you can keep in
your back pocket and pull out when you
need it, InshaAllah.
The recording will be beneficial as well, so
we look forward to sharing that with you.
This is going to be a seerah webinar,
a seerah Umrah, where we're going to be
focusing especially on, as we're in the holy
cities, as we're in the harams, what the,
you know, the experience of the Prophet, Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam, as he was living, you know,
sleeping, eating, existing, teaching, and building an Ummah
in these spaces, Alhamdulillah, and inspiring you guys
in the process.
As you guys know, Maghrib is known for
our academic experiences, we're known for our teaching
styles, making things fun and engaging, and building
communities around the learning of the deen, and
Alhamdulillah, Blessed Voyage puts that at a different
level.
It's an incredible, intense experience where you have
people coming in from all around the globe
who leave, who come as strangers and leave
as lifelong friends, Alhamdulillah.
And this is more than just about how
to, about how to do Umrah, step one,
step two, step three, it's about preparing your
heart, it's about understanding the wisdom of why
we do it, the benefits of it, and
the wisdom of the Prophet, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam,
and making your own journey following his footstep,
so that you can be, it can be
all that much more meaningful for you as
well, InshaAllah.
So welcome, if you guys are coming back
for your second time, if this is your
second webinar, it's great to have you back,
InshaAllah.
If you're joining us for the first time,
welcome, it's great to have you here, to
benefit, InshaAllah, from Shaykh Ammar, to ask him
questions, and to at least hopefully take away
something that you were not aware of in
the past, or InshaAllah, address some concerns that
you may have been sitting with.
Asim Saz, Jazakumullah khair for your amazing comment,
Halima, from Nigeria, MashaAllah, who you registered for
the Blessed Voyage with your sister, we can't
wait to have you on the amazing experience,
and it's amazing that you've been on Umrah
a few times, and you know that this
is going to be unique, InshaAllah.
That's what's really cool, that I find, having
been on Blessed Voyage a couple of times
myself, is that we have, we usually have
like a 50-50 split of new first
-timers, people who've never been before, and then
people who are coming for multiple times, and
it's crazy, as we have more and more
Umrahs, especially post-COVID, that number of people
who are coming back again and again, increases,
and sometimes it's insane when someone will go
with six months ago, and then they'll make
another trip six months later, just because the
rush, the experience, the intensity, the benefit, the
community that they experience, was unlike anything else
in any other Umrah, or any other experience
that they've had, so Alhamdulillah, we have people
who come back and bring their spouses, and
bring their families, or just who themselves, solo,
just come back again and again, even the
Umrah you can, after you get comfortable with
it, it's something that you can do solo,
but there's just some beauty, there's some, just,
and I don't know even, it's indescribable, honestly,
how amazing it feels when you come back
with such a beautiful community, like the Al
-Maghrib community, and if you've ever taken an
on-site class with us, if you've ever
taken an experience in person, you know how
unforgettable, and how, you know, everyone says we
get the Al-Maghrib blues, where people don't
want to leave, and they don't want to
depart from the high of, of the, of
the community that comes out in the classes,
this is that on another level, Alhamdulillah.
Let me just make sure that we are
set on the back end, and that we
are ready to go, Inshallah, to kick off
with the Shaykh in a second, so please
do settle into your seats, get ready for
a bunch of benefit, get your notebooks ready
as well, so that you can take notes,
and feel free to share this link with
others, if you are not going, but you
know, friends or family, I know my own
parents are going this year, Inshallah, so I'm
making sure that they're taking notes, that they're
prepping themselves mentally, spiritually, physically, and training themselves
for the experience, Alhamdulillah.
Jazakumullah khair.
Oh, I see some familiar names, Alhamdulillah, Sara,
it's welcome, welcome, welcome, it's great to have
you back, and welcome to all of you
guys again, who are registered, who are already,
you know, in the, in the grind, in
the, in the, in the preparation routine of
things, and you're ready to, Inshallah, kick off
this journey with us, Alhamdulillah.
I see that the Shaykh is joining us
as well, so I don't want to take
too much time from him, I see, Assalamu
alaikum wa rahmatullah, Shaykh Ammar, how are you
doing today?
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh, how are
you doing?
I am well, I have been talking, Shaykh,
for like, I don't know, eight minutes straight,
Alhamdulillah, so I think people are ready to
listen to you.
Could it have been more than six?
It was definitely more than six, because I
forgot to use this, that timer video, so
I was just chatting away, thinking that I
would, I would be quiet soon, Alhamdulillah, but
honestly, amazing group of people, Alhamdulillah, we're very
excited, Shaykh, to benefit from you, for today's
topic, walking with the Prophet, Sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, Inshallah, of course, we had a session
this, earlier this week, at the Zayed Zainiyah,
and she gave us a lot of great
tips and tricks, and talked about some of
the benefits of traveling with a group, and
specifically with the Al Maghrib group, and the
support, and the hype, and the experience, so
Inshallah, we're looking forward to benefiting from you
as well, so I'm going to pass it
to you, Bismillah, and we'll be back at
the end for the Q&A.
Okay, Alhamdulillah, Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam wa rasoolillahi
wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wa sallam, if
I can see the chat here, how many
people are going for their first Umrah, raise
your hand, raise your hand if you're going
for your first Umrah, Inshallah ta'ala, or
give me a thumbs up, give me a
thumbs up if it is number one, Inshallah
ta'ala, or you can type the number
one, all of that works, Inshallah, and if
you're going for more than one, if you're
going for more than one, let me just
see here, meeting group chat, okay, people are
raising their hands, okay, excellent, Muneera is saying
four, I guess this is her first or
fourth Umrah, Inshallah ta'ala, so the Prophet
Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he says, so for
those of you who have gone before, then
wonderful, Rasool Allah Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he
says, frequently do Hajj and Umrah, frequently do
rotate between Hajj and Umrah, why he said,
because they repel poverty, they repel poverty, like
fire repels impurity from steel, like fire repels
impurity from steel, and so the amount of
stories that I'm sure you have heard, and
that one could share on how people have
gone to Umrah with job insecurity, and they
came back with the job secured, they left
with not a lot of money in their
bank account, and Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta
-A'la opened up for them doors of
this that they didn't expect, one of a
recent story that I had just heard from
a wonderful brother, is that he had spent,
literally emptied out his bank accounts, so that
he could, he had just closed on a
house, and he emptied out his bank account
to take him and his mom and his
dad on Umrah, and when he returned back,
he just had to work on Allah Subh
'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la, purchased the house,
or at least closed on the house, and
when he came back, he had found that
there was something foundationally wrong with the house
that he had purchased, and so the builders
or the group, the company that had built
those houses, ended up giving him a bigger
house down the street, for the same price
as a compensation for the inconvenience, and so
he said, SubhanAllah, look at what the Umrah
did, the Umrah literally got me a bigger
house than the house that I had purchased,
and so the idea here is, I just
want to say from the get-go, that
if you are hesitating because of finances and
what have you, and you've never gone to
Umrah, or you've gone before, but it was
a while ago, and you are debating whether
or not this is a step that you
can afford to take, the people who go
to Umrah, the delegation that goes to Umrah,
they're the waft of Allah, they're the delegation
of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la,
meaning they are being hosted by Allah.
When you go to a generous host, you
expect for that host to take care of
you, and so when you are going, and
you are being hosted by Allah Subh'anaHu
Wa Ta-A'la, as you get to
Medina, and as you get to Mecca, InshaAllah
Ta-A'la, you will find the generosity
of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la
to be beyond your imagination.
Now, I want to briefly just share a
couple of, I know that there were some
questions that were answered in the last session,
I want to open up the floor as
well for a lot of questions and make
this more interactive, and I'll do the share,
InshaAllah Ta-A'la, just a few aspects
of what are some of the things that
you need to take with you when it
comes to Umrah, what are the things that
you need to plan for, and we're going
to have other logistical webinars, we're going to
make sure that you know what, how much
cash to carry, and what medications to carry,
and what type of, all of these details
that people worry about, even though there's not
much to worry about, because Umrah, everything that
you can find in the U.S. or
Canada, or what have you, wherever you're coming
from, the UK, you can find in Saudi
Arabia, Alhamdulillah, it's very, very, things are very
accessible there, but still, when it comes to
the details as to what a person should
pack, we're going to cover those logistics, but
firstly, even more important than all of that,
is I'm going to share with you four
things, InshaAllah Ta-A'la, that you should
invoke now.
The first is gratitude, the first is gratitude.
There's, Hafsa will probably be able to pull
it up, but I always share this, there's
a New York Times article, and I share
this with every group, and Hajj group included,
Umrah group included, but there's a New York
Times article that says, that for the majority,
or for every Muslim who's alive to go
to Hajj, it would take 500 years, it
would take 500 years, if we were to
pause, and nobody else were to be born,
and nobody else to die, whoever's alive right
now, for everybody to go to Hajj, depending
on how many people are able to go
every year, six million people, or seven million
people, you do the math, there's two billion
people on this earth, who are Muslim, it
would take 500 years, but Umrah is much
more accessible.
The reality is the vast majority of people
are never going to be able to go
to Hajj.
Umrah is much more accessible for us, it's
much more accessible for your average Western Muslim.
That being said, still, you also have to
appreciate and recognize that the vast majority of
people who are alive as Muslims will never
go to Mecca, they'll never see the Kaaba,
they'll never pray in al-Masjid al-Nawr.
If you go, and you were to simply
poll the people that you know, if you
were to go into the masjids and ask
who's been to Umrah, who hasn't, you'll find
that the majority of our congregations, our communities,
have never gone to Umrah.
And then you realize that for you to
be in a position to go to Umrah,
we have so many people here who have
never gone to Umrah as well.
And so for you to realize that you,
for just the idea that you're entertaining this,
that you're committing to this, that you're researching
this, that you're discussing this, you're trying to
figure this out for yourself, that in and
of itself, inshallah ta'ala, is a great,
great, great invitation from Allah subhana wa ta
'ala, and it's one that should inspire a
lot of gratitude.
And then if you're able, inshallah ta'ala,
to go, and go once or twice or
three times, inshallah ta'ala, that means that
Allah subhana wa ta'ala has shown you
incredible favor, and it's one to show a
lot of gratitude to Allah subhana wa ta
'ala for.
I have good news for people who have
gone, who are going for the first time,
no matter how long it took you in
your life, you're going to realize that there's
no place on earth like this.
I had one of our recent blessed voyage
groups, one of my local brothers from our
community, he had grown up in the masjid,
very, very wonderful brother.
And I remember him telling me, as we
were getting ready to arrive in Medina, because
we always land in Medina on purpose first,
and he said to me, he was discussing
with me, why do people go to Umrah
every year?
He was like, I don't get it.
Like, it makes much more sense to me,
much more sense to me, that you go
with, you go one year to fulfill the
obligation, of course, for those who believe that
it's obligatory to do Umrah once in your
lifetime.
But I mean, sponsor other people to go,
sponsor other people every year, sponsor other people
to go.
It makes much more sense.
He was thinking like this, he was thinking
with his mind.
But then as soon as we landed, first
day, I'm walking with him into the courtyard,
not even, we didn't even walk into the
masjid, we walked into the courtyard of Masjid
al-Nabawi.
And he looked at me, and I quote,
he said, I need to come back every
year.
I said, what happened, big guy?
What happened to all of that theory you
were talking about?
I need to come back every year.
And Alhamdulillah, ever since that time, that was
maybe two, three years ago, he's come back
multiple times for Umrah with us, and by
himself as well.
Alhamdulillah.
I have another person who I know, he
was 40 years old when he went into
his first Umrah, and that was a year
ago.
And since then, he's gone three times.
Every time he can squeeze vacation time, he
goes and he travels to Umrah, takes five
days, six days, a week off, goes, performs
Umrah, leaves the United States, goes perform Umrah,
comes back.
It is a great, great gift for a
person to go to Allah's house, and that
you show gratitude to Allah simply for being
invited.
Number one is gratitude.
And the beautiful thing is that if a
person shows gratitude, Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta
-A'la says, And your Lord has proclaimed
that if you show gratitude, I will increase
you.
That's number one.
Number two, Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A
'la says, The second thing that I want
us to keep in mind is the taqwa
of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la.
Allah, when talking about the pilgrimage, the greater
pilgrimage of Hajj, but it applies to pilgrimage
of Umrah as well, that when I am
planning, and I'm thinking of the details, and
I'm thinking of what I should pack, and
I'm thinking of what I should, how I
should plan for this trip, Allah Subh'anaHu
Wa Ta-A'la says, take provision, but
the greatest provision is taqwa.
The greatest provision is taqwa.
When we get to Umrah, everything's going to
happen fast.
I mean, at the end of the day,
it's seven days.
Just like Ramadan, Ramadan is 30 days, and
it happens fast, Umrah is going to happen
fast too.
Not necessarily the act itself, but the seven
days, the entire trip is going to go
by.
And so you want to make sure that
you are as ready as possible spiritually, and
of the greatest things, if not the greatest
thing that a person can start working on
is taqwa of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta
-A'la.
I've committed to taking this journey to Umrah.
I'm not going to act like I'm just
going to turn on a higher spiritual state
as soon as my plane takes off.
That's not usually how that works.
On day one of Ramadan, even though it's
Ramadan, it's not easy to just turn on
an incredible spiritual state, even though you're in
a spiritual season, a spiritual month.
Similarly, just being in a spiritual place may
not turn that on.
I know lots of people, unfortunately, who they're
still in the same WhatsApp groups as when
they left.
They're still engaging in the same type of,
they're still checking Instagram while they're in Mecca
or in Medina.
They're still involved in the dunya because they
haven't started to prepare.
And so preparing even before you get there
that you know what I'm intending Umrah.
And so I ask Allah Azawajal to accept
for me, let me start making sure that
I'm praying my prayers on time.
Let me start praying my prayers on time
now in preparation for Umrah, praying my prayers
in the earliest times.
What else can I do in showing gratitude
to Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la
as I am preparing for this journey?
I can start making sure that I'm giving
more charity, that I'm reading more Quran.
The acts of worship that I'm going to
want to do while I am there, let
me make sure that I am fluid with
them now.
Let me make sure that I am able
to do them effortlessly now or at least
easier now so that when I'm there, I'm
already warmed up.
I'm ready to go.
I'm ready to hit the ground running as
soon as I get there.
I'm not starting cold, starting with Taqwa of
Allah.
Let me start to refrain from using or
watching social media early on before I get
to Mecca.
So I'm not stopping everything cold turkey.
Let me start monitoring what my eyes see,
what my ears hear from now, Taqwa.
The third is the actual preparation of a
person when it comes to the acts that
a person can do while in Umrah.
And what I mean by that, it's very
simple.
The first, hold on a second.
Sorry, guys, I'm ranting.
Can you guys hear me?
Okay.
Hold on one second.
Give me a one in the chat if
you can hear me.
Okay.
Okay, great.
So we said, we said number one is
meeting Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la
with gratitude.
The second is, the second we said is
to have Taqwa of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa
Ta-A'la.
The third, even before what I was just
about to say, the third is Tawbah.
Tawbah is one of the great acts of
worship that a person can meet Allah Subh
'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la with before this
journey.
You know, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said
that the Umrah to Umrah erase all of
the minor sins.
Umrah to Umrah, Ramadan to Ramadan, Jum'ah
to Jum'ah, they all erase the minor
sins, as long as you avoid the major
sins.
Now, the major sins are erased with Tawbah.
And so when I take this journey, I
want to be in a circumstance where I
am best able to come back having been
transformed.
Mecca and Medina are going to give me
incredibly, an incredibly large spiritual reservoir.
It's going to be very inspiring.
I guarantee you that it's going to be
incredibly inspiring when you go.
Insha'Allah.
But let me even before I go, let
me meet Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A
'la with Istighfar.
Let me meet Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta
-A'la with repentance for my sins.
So that insha'Allah when I arrive in
Mecca and Medina, I have a heart that
is lighter.
You know, Ibn Qayyim says an incredible statement.
He says that our sins weigh us down,
just like sand weighs down a suitcase.
Imagine you have a suitcase and you're filling
it with sand.
And then you have to drag this luggage
with you as you're traveling.
And so the idea is that these sins
that are weighing us down in our journey
to Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la,
when I repent to Allah, all of a
sudden I'm letting go of this baggage.
All of a sudden I'm lighter.
All of a sudden I'm faster.
All of a sudden the trip is more
enjoyable.
All of a sudden I feel more close
and more connected to Allah Subh'anaHu Wa
Ta-A'la.
And so removing the baggage and the weight
of sin by repenting to Allah Subh'anaHu
Wa Ta-A'la.
So a tawbah is very, very important.
And the last thing is what's called al
-azm.
Al-azm is commitment.
Commitment.
That I commit to taking advantage of this
umrah.
That I commit to taking advantage of this
umrah.
What does commitment look like?
What would I need to be able to
take the most advantage of this umrah?
What would my worship need to look like?
What would my energy need to look like?
What would my health need to look like?
I'll tell you from the get-go that
one of the things that you should be
doing now if you haven't started, I mean
now is a good time to start work,
what six weeks out, seven weeks out, is
that I want you, let's do this quick
exercise.
I want you to look in your phone
and I want you to see your step
count for the past week.
And if you're sharing it, I want you
to share it.
Your step count.
Your average step count.
Okay.
What you need to be averaging daily in
preparation for umrah, I would say is bare
minimum 10,000.
Bare minimum.
Your average per day, yeah, your iPhone will
be able to tell you or your phone
should be able to tell you your steps
over the past week.
So you might just have one good day.
And if you're comfortable sharing it, share it.
But you should be bare minimum.
There will be days, especially the umrah day
itself, where you'll be, I want to say
20,000, 25,000 steps, 30,000 steps.
Could be.
You might reach 30,000.
And we have people from our groups who
reach that.
And so if you're somewhere in the 2
,000, if you're in, I'm in Houston, Texas,
we don't walk a lot.
You know, you hop in a car to
go everywhere.
And so if you're in a city that's
like that, then easily, that's one of the
easiest things that you can start to work
on immediately is just walking.
Because on day one, and day two, and
day three, when we are walking a lot,
because we're going to be walking to see
the sites, we're going to be walking to
the haram, obviously back and forth every single
day.
And so the last thing that you want
is to be physically exhausted, or to be
physically incapable of doing some of the walks,
because of something that could have been resolved
or something that could have been planned for
in advance.
Beyond that, what are the days of this
trip look like?
The days of the trip when we take
these blessed voyage trips, like I mentioned, we
arrive in Medina first, why do we arrive
in Medina first?
It's very simple.
The reason is because the other option is
arriving in Mecca first.
And if you arrive in Mecca first, then
you are going to go straight into the
Umrah.
And I want you to imagine an entire
group of people, many of us who are
meeting each other for the first time going
and doing the most important thing.
In the first two, three hours of our
trip, we found that it's much better logistically,
socially, spiritually, that we let people spend two,
three days in Medina first, let everybody get
to know each other.
We do all of our icebreaking activities, everybody
loves each other.
And then after that, when we're making the
trip to Umrah, you have that incredible connection
and bonds that have been formed with the
group on day four, or day five, when
we go and make the Umrah.
Now the Umrah becomes an incredibly different experience
than if you had just rushed into the
Umrah on day one.
So that's number one.
Number two.
The second thing is every day, we have
sessions that are educational, every single day between
myself, Ustadh Tayyib Mia, you'll have sessions after
Fajr, you'll have sessions after Asr.
Some of them are short, just brief reminders
after Fajr, for example, is usually a 15
minute, 20 minute reminder.
And then the one that's after Asr is
usually in the hotel and it's lengthier.
It's maybe a 45 minute hour session, we'll
go over the fifth of Umrah again, for
those people who are, everyone will be embarking
on Umrah, but for those people who need
that refresher, we'll spend that time inshaAllah making
sure that all of the I's are dotted,
all of the T's are crossed, that everybody
knows everything that they need to know.
And even then, obviously, during the Umrah trip,
we'll be with you inshaAllah in front of
you and behind you and to the right
of you and to the left of you,
making sure that you are comfortably being guided
as you make the Umrah inshaAllah.
And then beyond that, we have trips that
we normally take at night.
That's usually after Isha, whether it's going to
visit the sites at Uhud, for example, if
we're in Medina, or whether it's going and
taking an excursion for those who are interested
to the cave of Herat in Mecca, or
going to Masjid Quba and seeing the other
sites of Medina, all of those things normally
we'll take them at nighttime.
But every morning, you'll get an announcement basically
saying what the details of that day are
and what the agenda of the day is.
And sometimes these things are a little bit
fluid, but you'll find inshaAllah that mostly it's
pretty a very structured program inshaAllah.
That being said, Hafsa asked me to talk
about the Umrah of the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ, his Umrah, he would start
off, he said, لَبَيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرًا Oh Allah,
I see, I claim, I declare, I declare
for you a Umrah, for you a Umrah.
And the Prophet ﷺ made his Ihram from
Dhul-Halaifah outside of Medina, and that's what
we're going to do.
We're going to make our Ihram, actually we're
going to make our statement, our declaration of
Ihram at the train station, or for some
of us, it will be as we are
passing through the Miqat.
Don't worry, all of that will get explained
in more detail inshaAllah in the future.
But the point that I want you to
know is that Umrah is just four things.
Where's my camera?
It's four things.
Umrah is four things, okay?
Very, very simple.
I tell people all the time, you have
to be very talented to mess up Umrah.
You have to be skilled.
It's got to be, mashaAllah, you have to
have like some sort of special talent for
you to be able to mess up Umrah,
because it's only four things.
Hajj is a lot of things.
Umrah is just four.
We're going to count the four with us,
okay?
Number one, the first thing is the Ihram.
The Ihram is what the men wear, two
white towels, two towels that will be provided
for you, nothing else.
That's the Ihram.
And you're not allowed to cover your head.
If you're a man, you're not allowed to
trim anything from your body.
You're not allowed to clip your nails.
You're not allowed to wear perfume.
Women also are not allowed to wear perfume
or clip anything from their hair or from
their...
But the difference between men and women is
that women can wear what they want.
They can wear their normal, everyday clothes.
They can wear sneakers.
They are chilling, as we say.
The only thing that women aren't allowed to
do is to cover their face.
If they're a naqabi, they can't wear a
niqab, and they can't wear gloves.
That's it.
But other than that, she's in her everyday
attire.
Easy, alhamdulillah.
For men, it's a little bit more challenging,
but again, it's just a couple of hours.
And so what we're going to do, we're
going to have our white garments, and then
we wear sandals or flip-flops or whatever
you might call them in your culture.
But you want to have sandals that you
wear that do not cover the top of
your foot and do not cover the heel.
Do not cover the heel.
So that being said, you have...
That's number one, ihram.
And then, of course, obviously, once a person's
in a state of ihram, then there's no
intimacy with the spouse.
Beyond that, you're just making the talbiyah.
Now, you've entered into the state where these
things have become forbidden.
That's why it's called ihram, like haram.
Clipping your nails has become haram.
Perfume has become haram.
Using anything that's scented, so-for-what-have
-you becomes haram, like that.
Okay?
So that's number one.
Then number two, step number two, is when
you get to the Ka'bah, you make
dhuwaf seven times around the Ka'bah.
That's step number two.
Seven times.
Which direction do I go?
Go in the direction that everyone else in
the world is going.
Do not go against the traffic.
That's it.
You have to be talented to mess up
around.
But I'm telling you, it's seven times.
Now, we're all going to be doing this
together.
We'll be leading the group together and walking.
We might have different groups go at different
times.
All of those logistics, don't worry.
We've done this many times before.
We're going to be thinking about what the
best way, the best experience that you can
have logistically that night.
And it'll most likely be at night.
So then number two, is making dhuwaf around
the Ka'bah seven times.
All of the details, do I point my
hand like this?
Do I say Allahu Akbar?
When do, where do I start?
All of those details, we'll tell you inshallah
ta'ala.
But the most important factor is that you
just go seven times around the Ka'bah.
Then, after that, that's the second pillar.
The third pillar is going between As-Saf
and Al-Marwah seven times.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
Those are two mountains.
But now, in modernity, they're not mountains.
It's literally just a floor.
You go up to the second floor or
third floor, and you just run back and
forth between two points.
Okay?
You don't run, you walk.
And then there's some places where the men
run.
There's going to be green lights that you'll
see above you, and that's everybody else will
be running, so you run too.
No problem.
We do that seven times.
And then, after you do that seven times,
and in every station, we'll talk, we'll do
a more detailed version of Umrah inshallah ta
'ala in the future.
But, and everybody will have their notebooks out
and stuff like that, and we'll just go
over it bit by bit.
But for now, it's these seven.
And these are all stations of du'a.
And in dhuwaf, at the same time, what
do you want to be doing?
You want to be making a lot of
du'a.
You want to be making a lot of
du'a.
You want to be making dhikr of Allah
Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la.
You want to be reciting Qur'an.
You want to be doing these acts of
worship.
It's seven.
Dhuwaf goes by very quickly.
Dhuwaf goes by very quickly.
In fact, the closer you get to the
Ka'bah, the more quickly it goes, because
the circumference becomes smaller.
But, sa'i takes a while.
Going between a seven and Umrah, that takes
a while.
So, you want to have a lot of
du'as ready.
You want to have a lot of dhikr
ready that you can recite.
You want to have your du'a book.
You want to have your Qur'an accessible.
You want to have all of these things
so that you can spend that time in
the remembrance of Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta
-A'la.
We do that seven times.
Then, so that's number three.
And then, number four, the last thing is
that you cut your hair.
You cut your hair or you trim your
hair.
So, the Prophet ﷺ, he made du'a
three times for the men who shaved their
head.
And the people who said to him, what
about those who simply trimmed their hair?
And the Prophet ﷺ said, I made du
'a for the ones who shaved.
I made du'a for the ones who
shaved.
And then, he said then the ones who
trimmed their hair as well.
And so, he made du'a three times
more for the ones who shaved versus the
ones who trimmed.
But, both of them are acceptable and your
Umrah will be completed.
For women, it's enough for her to simply
grab her hair and then cut.
And then, she cuts a little bit.
She cuts the fingertip.
What's equal to a fingertip of hair, she
cuts that and her Umrah is done.
Can she do it by herself?
Yes.
Can she do it when she goes back
to the hotel?
Yes, she can do it then at her
convenience.
But, her Umrah is not done until she
cuts her hair.
That's important.
Some women might go home, go back to
the hotel and forget to cut her hair.
Just exhausted or sleepy or what have you.
And then, she forgets and then she changes
her clothes and she goes.
Changing your clothes, by the way, is fine.
But, putting on perfume is not.
Okay.
And these are little technicalities.
But, I'm just making that because it just
came to my mind.
So, that's the idea.
You cut your hair, your Umrah is done.
That's it.
It's four steps.
Simple, easy, inshaAllah ta'ala, very straightforward.
Just do what everybody else is doing.
That being said, a person might say to
themselves, well, if Umrah is so easy, why
don't I just do it myself?
What's the point of going with a group?
Hold on a second there.
Hold on a second.
I said basic.
Basic level, it's hard to mess it up.
But, when it comes to enhancing it, when
it comes to getting the most out of
it, when it comes to turning it from
being a 30-minute express thing where, yeah,
you're hitting all the bases to something that's
being an incredibly transformative experience, I think, inshaAllah
ta'ala, that's where Blessed Voyage really, really
enhances your journey, inshaAllah ta'ala.
And I look forward to over the next
weeks as we continue to come closer, spending
more time with you, joining the WhatsApp group
or the Telegram group, whatever social group you
end up creating for the team, inshaAllah ta
'ala, and for all of the guests who
are coming, the guests of Ar-Rahman, that
inshaAllah ta'ala, we get to answer all
your questions and you have that live access.
I know for me, for myself, that when
I go on Umrah, I rarely sleep.
It's two, three hours, and then I'm just
accessible to everybody all the time.
And I enjoy that.
I'm very happy to be like that for
the Umrah groups because, hey, there's no better
hospitality than a person who is journeying to
Mecca and Medina.
And so for me to just be a
small portion of the ones who are showing
you hospitality, inshaAllah ta'ala, it's just a
great honor.
And so honored to be with you, honored,
inshaAllah ta'ala, to be going on this
journey with you all.
And inshaAllah, I hope and pray that inshaAllah,
we together are able to experience the greatest
moments of our lives.
Wallahu alaikum, jazakumullahu khair, everybody.
Abir says, if a man is bald, should
he let his hair grow from now or
does he continue to shave head until beginning
of the trip?
Does he need to grow horizontally so that
he can shave?
No, it's fine.
What he needs to do, simply what he'll
do is he'll, if he's completely bald, he
can simply just run the blade over his
head and it would count.
He just runs the blade over his head,
no problem.
Sheikh, I received a private question here as
well.
Do you have suggestions for overcoming the menses
during Umrah?
Overcoming the menses during Umrah?
Yeah, that's how it's phrased.
Um, so I would say that if she,
um, I would say that if she can
schedule her flights and her trip so that
she's not in menses during the Umrah, I
would suggest that.
Beyond that, beyond that, she would need to
speak to her doctor.
That's what I would say.
I would say, speak to her doctor, see
if it's something that's safe for her.
If it's something that's safe for her to
take, then that's something that she can consider.
If she knows that it's, it's, it's going
to be something that, um, she can't avoid
as far as the timing of it.
She's expecting that the timing of it is
going to be during the time of our
Umrah.
It's not going to complete before we arrive,
for example.
And then even then, is it going to
be something that lasts until we leave and
we depart?
Or is it something that she expects will
be completed before we depart and the end
of our trip?
Because if, for example, let's say that her
expectation is that by day one or day
two of we, uh, of us arriving in
Mecca, she's going to, she's going to have
resolved, um, or her cycle would have ended.
Let's say by day three, she's, she's looking
at schedules or what have you.
Well, that's the case.
Then she simply makes the attention for Umrah.
And then when she arrives in Mecca, she
waits day one and day two and day
three, she goes and she completes the Umrah.
And if she, you know, uh, we're all
going to be there and available for her,
inshallah, ta'ala, and her family and whoever's
with her, inshallah, to guide her through that
Umrah.
So she doesn't necessarily need to make Umrah
with the group itself.
But if she's finishes her cycle before the
trip is over, then we, um, then we'll
take her, inshallah, ta'ala, no problem.
But I would say just consult your doctor,
see if it's safe for you.
You're, you're going to go down the right,
uh, the route of, uh, some sort of
inhibitor or blocker or what have you.
Allah knows best.
Is it permissible?
Yeah, it's permissible to take.
But the question is really, is it healthy?
That's the question.
You know, if it's, if it's going to
be something that works you and works your
body for months on end afterwards, is that
something that a person should do?
That's something that you're going to have to
make it, have a discussion with.
I wouldn't necessarily advise it, but that's a
discussion that you have with your doctor.
But is it permissible?
Yes.
And just as a point of advice, I
know this comes up with every group, with
every year, um, but it is recommended to
speak as soon as possible because we're now
a few weeks out, depending on the cycle,
depending on anything that you take that has
to be, you know, discussed as soon as
possible, inshallah, so that you're as, as in
control of the situation as you are, as
you can be.
Um, any other questions that you guys have,
please feel free to drop.
There's a couple more, more questions, but I
think that what Shaykh said has covered most
of them.
Um, if you guys have any other, uh,
questions that you would like to ask the
Shaykh while he's here, you're more than welcome
to drop them in the chat now.
Um, otherwise, inshallah, you'll have plenty of other
opportunities, especially if you're already registered for the
group, um, with Blessed Voyage and you're coming
with us this November, November 23rd to December
1st, uh, you'll have ample opportunity to ask
in sessions that we have ahead of departure
and then in the group that we have
with the Shaykh.
And then during the time that we're there,
alhamdulillah, we have Ussada there as well as
a female guide.
Uh, if you guys are sensitive to asking
questions, inshallah, in a public kind of setup
setting, inshallah.
Uh, someone's asking, will you be doing Hajj,
Shaykh?
Yeah, inshallah.
We have a, we have a Hajj that
Al-Maghrib leads.
Uh, we went this year, alhamdulillah, and next
year, inshallah ta'ala, our plan is to
go again.
Every year that we can go, you know,
we'll go inshallah ta'ala.
So I plan on going.
Uh, I think, I don't know what the
website is.
Is it almaghribhajj.com or something like that?
You just google almaghribhajj, you'll find it.
I think it's almaghrib.org forward slash Hajj,
but I'll double check it.
Your du'as, how do you advise making
it?
I advise that you make it from your
heart.
I advise that you, that you spend a
lot of time thinking of what are the
du'as that you make.
You have to understand that Umar is a
life-changing experience, life-changing, life-changing, life
-changing, okay?
What do I tell you?
Do I tell you about the people from
our group who have gotten married after Umrah?
I think everybody is familiar with stories like
that, but the person who got a job
after Umrah, the people, the people who had
children after Umrah, like how many a person
was born because they were a du'a
that their parent made in the haraam?
You know, I know one imam here in
the U.S. who his father made du
'a for him at the haraam, and he
used to tell him, you are the du
'a of the haraam.
So if I know that I'm going to
Allah's house, and I am going to have
that access to be making du'a, I
think the last thing you want to be
doing is just running out of du'as
because you didn't have a plan.
So spend time just thinking of everybody, everybody
that means something to you.
I want you to think about your teacher
in third grade.
I want you to think about that person
who taught you quran when you were eight.
I want you to think about, you know,
obviously your parents and grandparents.
I want you to think about your parents
and who they make du'a for.
Who did my mom make du'a for?
My father's alive, or if he passed away,
who were the ones that were people that
I can extend his legacy, and how beautiful
would that be if I am mentioning at
the Ka'bah the names of people that
my father, or my mom, or my grandma,
or my grandfather used to make du'a
for.
And so making du'a in that sense,
and like Nina says, I dedicate each round
to a specific group of people.
That's a beautiful way to do it as
well.
And so the first round, for example, will
be for my immediate family.
The second round will be for my extended
family.
Third will be for friend groups.
Fifth will be for, and you go like
that, right?
Teachers will have you divide up in that
way.
But before even dividing it up, I would
say the first step is just trying to
be as comprehensive as possible.
Comprehensive as possible.
Be as comprehensive as possible.
Be as considerate as possible.
And you'll find that there's a lot of
people to make du'a for.
But then also with regards to yourself, you
know, what are the different goals that I
have?
I have my spiritual goals, I have jannah,
you know, you have that formula that appears.
And by the way, this is the dhikr
that you make as you're making du'a
between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone,
which is the last corner of the Kaaba.
You say, Rabbana a'tina fi al-dunya hasana
wa fi al-akhirati hasana wa qina a'dha
banna.
Oh Allah, grant us goodness in this life
and grant us goodness in the hereafter, and
protect us from the hellfire.
So the ratio that's being presented in this
du'a is a two for one ratio,
two to one ratio for the akhira.
Because you're saying, Oh Allah, give me life
in this life, which is the dunya, that's
one.
And then the next two things are both
of the hereafter and in the hereafter and
protect me from the hellfire.
And so the idea of spending my time
making du'a for the akhira, spending my
time making du'a for jannah, but also
not forgetting my share of the dunya.
So I'm asking Allah for my health, and
I'm asking Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for
my finances, and I'm asking Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala for my relationships.
And I'm asking Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
for my career or my studies, and I'm
asking Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala you just
find different goals.
And you'll find lots of, you know, when
it comes to goal setting, you'll find a
lot of different charts that divide up these
spheres for you, whether it's health, fitness, well,
like that relationships and what have you.
I don't know a lot of those guys.
I have a couple of private questions that
were sent.
One is that someone's asking what happens if
one loses ablution during du'a?
Oh, we're getting super technical.
Yeah, we are getting super technical.
So if a person loses ablution in du
'a, the majority of scholars believe that ablution
is a requirement for du'a.
That being said, there's a minority of scholars
who hold that it's not a requirement.
Of them is Ibn Taymiyyah.
And so I would say this, if a
person loses ablution in du'a and they
are comfortable going to get water and make
wudu and then come back and find their
spot and then continue from where they left
off, then go ahead and do that.
But if I'm not comfortable, oh my God,
if I leave, there's such a large crowd.
I don't, I don't even, this is my
first time in the haram.
I don't even know where anything is.
I'm worried.
I'm not going to be able to find
the group again.
This, this, this, this, this.
Then you're going to lean on the position
of Ibn Taymiyyah and others that wudu is
not required for du'a and you simply
continue on with your du'a.
Where did this come from?
It comes from the discussion about the Prophet
ﷺ when he said that, where did they
get the idea that wudu is required for
du'a?
It's because the Prophet ﷺ called it a
salah.
He said that it is a salah except
that you can speak in it, that you
can speak in it.
And so wudu is required for salah, so
wudu is required for tawaf in extension, right?
However, the position that's held by Ibn Taymiyyah
and others is that, hold on a second,
that doesn't really make sense.
Just because the Prophet ﷺ called it a
salah doesn't mean that it's exactly like salah.
It's different from salah in so many ways.
There's no ruku' in tawaf, there's no sujood
in tawaf, there's no like, you're not even
facing the qiblah in tawaf, you've got your
shoulder to the qiblah, you're facing differently here.
And so there's so many variants when it
comes to the salah, so why would you
assume that this one would be constant, which
is the issue of wudu?
In any case, it's a good argument and
so I would say, you know what, let
me make sure as best as I can
that I have wudu just to be on
the safe side when it comes to the
majority of the scholars and that way I'm
avoiding the difference of opinion of the scholars.
But if I'm in that scenario where I've
lost wudu and I don't think that I'll
be able to find my way back or
what have you, or I don't feel safe
or I don't feel comfortable doing that, then
you can rely on the position of the
minority and Allah knows best.
I hope that's clear.
Jazakumullahu khair, Sheikh.
I know we're going a little past time
so we'll just take maybe one or two
more questions, inshallah, before we close off.
The next that I see is, what are
some recommended places that I know?
Yeah, this is the famous Abir, masha'Allah.
She's famous to us, at least in the
Blessed Voyage community, masha'Allah.
So what are the recommended places that we
can visit after completing Umrah?
Recommended places?
I mean we're going to have ziyarat, we're
going to have ziyarat, like there are certain
sites that you go and you see.
As far as recommended, what do you mean?
Do you mean religiously recommended?
If you mean religiously recommended, meaning religiously virtuous,
there's only one other place.
There's Masjid al-Nabwi, there's Masjid al-Haram
in Mecca, and there's Masjid Quba.
Masjid Quba is the only masjid that has
a virtue for praying in, other than the
three famous mosques, including in Masjid al-Aqsa.
Masjid Quba, the Prophet says, whoever leaves their
place with purity and meaning making wudu, and
then they go to Masjid Quba and they
pray Surah Az-Zarit, they get the reward
of Umrah.
They get a reward of Umrah.
So we're going to do that insha'Allah.
Beyond that, you have the historical sites.
And so we're going to go and we're
going to visit the Shuhada of Uhud.
We're going to go and we're going to
go and see the other sites that exist
in Medina, like Masjid al-Qiblatin and the
Seba Masajid, where the khandaq was dug for
the protection of Medina.
And then when we go to Mecca, we're
going to go and see the hajj sites,
because that's very inspiring for people, for that
they get to see the mountain of Arafat,
where everybody stands and hajj.
People go and they see the tents of
Mina and what have you.
So we'll go and we'll do those sites.
But really, at the end of the day,
the vast majority of the time is going
to be in the two Masajids, where all
of that reward lies.
The next question and the last one is,
is it possible to have our du'as
on the phone while doing du'a, or
does it need to be on paper?
Yeah, that's fine.
Whether it's phone or paper, all of that
is fine.
Okay, that was a quick one.
There's one that someone was asking that I'll
take before, because I missed it.
It's, any recommendations for du'a books or
resources that one can start reading before going
for Umrah?
I think the best probably available is Husn
al-Muslim, the Fortress of the Muslim.
Look up the Fortress of the Muslim, you'll
find lots of different supplications.
Beautiful.
Jazakumullahu khair, Sheikh Ammar, for this amazing reminder
for those of you who are preparing for
Umrah, du'aing for Umrah, booked and ready.
Sorry, Sheikh?
I'm sorry, this one is another question that
came as a direct message.
No worries.
Completing Umrah for the rest of the seven
days, should we just do tawaf for seven
rounds and make du'a after completing Umrah?
So this is something that's a common question
that gets asked is, what do I do
after I've got three more days in Mecca
or two more days or however many days?
Should I do multiple Umrahs?
Or should I just make tawaf?
So tawaf is something that you can only
do in one place in the world, which
is in Mecca.
And so you want make as much tawaf
as possible.
And tawaf, if you do all seven, obviously,
you can only tawaf only counts if you
do all seven, then it's going to take
you an hour.
So it's a long walk.
And so you want to do that as
much as possible.
These sets of seven, I can do it
in the morning, maybe I can do it
again in the evening, maybe I can go
at midnight and just do these sets of
seven.
As far as the Umrah goes, Umrah being
done multiple times in a single trip, that's
not reported from the Prophet ﷺ, it's not
reported from the companions.
They never did that.
And people will normally respond and say, well,
you know what, I have a loved one
who passed away, and I'd like to do
it on their behalf.
The Prophet ﷺ had loved ones who had
passed away.
I want you to think by the time
the Prophet ﷺ came to do his first
Umrah, it was after the Treaty of Cordovia,
by that time, meaning it was a year
later after Cordovia, by that time, Khadijah had
passed away, Hamza had been martyred, so many
of the Prophet ﷺ's beloved companions, and yet
Rasulullah ﷺ did not say, okay, I'm going
to do this one for me, and then
I'm going to come back and, you know,
tomorrow, and I'm just going to do another
one for Khadijah, and I'm going to do
one for, he didn't do that.
His children had passed away, he didn't do
that.
So that shows us that it's not ideal.
That being said, some Fuqaha, some Fuqaha have
allowed it, and they made the argument that,
you know what, there are some people who
are coming from all over the world, this
is their one time ever to be coming
to the Kaaba and what have you, and
so they allowed it for them.
But I would tell you that that's not
the ideal.
The ideal is to do the Sunnah of
the Prophet ﷺ as the Prophet ﷺ did
it, and just think about this rationally, that
anytime you increase quantity, the quality has to
go down.
Like Umrah, if you do it right on
that first day that we do it, it's
going to be something that is, I'm not
going to say is taxing, but it's going
to be very fulfilling.
It's, if you take your time to do
it, and you do it right, but if
you're just going to bang out one after
the other, one Umrah, and then tomorrow I'm
just going to do seven circuits, and I'm
back and forth between Sa'id and Marwah,
you're going to see by yourself that the
quality is not going to be the same.
And eventually you want to come to the
place where you realize that it's not about
quantity, it's about quality.
So maybe I'm making Tawaf, and I make
Dua for this person.
Or maybe I simply make my first Umrah
for this person, because I really want to
make Umrah for them, I make Dua for
that, I make that first Umrah for that
person, which you're allowed to do as long
as you've made Umrah for yourself before in
your life.
But if you haven't made Umrah for yourself,
then you do it first for this person.
And Allah knows best.
Beautiful.
Jazakum Allah khair, Sheikh, for that clarification, for
giving us so much additional time for the
questions that we have.
I'm sure the questions will always keep coming.
But Alhamdulillah we have opportunities, especially for those
