Is there a person who's beyond Allah
love?
The loving.
Allah
mentions this beautiful name in 2 places in
the Quran. In Surah Hud, Allah
says, My lord is merciful and loving.
And in Surat Al Buruj, Allah says,
and he is the forgiving, the loving. And
both of these pairings
are really, really profound because
the merciful and the loving and the forgiving
and the loving. The reason being that we
all may have people that we love. And
if they were to wrong us, depending on
the severity of that wrong, it may take
us a very long time to be able
to forgive them. And in fact, that might
even require a tremendous amount of work. But
even if we do come back to being
able to forgive them,
is that love ever gonna be the same
again? Like it was before? It becomes like
a glass that's shattered. Even if the pieces
are placed back together perfectly,
the cracks are still visible. Umar ibn Khattab
stood face to face with the killer of
his brother Zayd. And Zaid was Umar's older
brother, and he had accepted Islam before
Umar, and he had migrated before Umar. And
Zaid would participate in the campaigns against Musailemma
the liar, the false prophet.
And Musailemma
would be killed and he would be defeated,
but Zayb would be martyred. And after Musa'ilama
was killed, those who had apostated and were
supporting him, they embraced Islam again and they
got reabsorbed into the Muslim community. Now, Umar
is the Khalifa, and he's standing in front
of one of those men, and he asks
him a point blank question. He says, I
ask you by Allah,
did you kill my brother's aid? And the
man simply says, yes.
Umar then said, stay away from me then,
then because I will never love you as
long as the earth does not love blood.
We're never gonna be okay. Right? And so
the man says, Amirul Mum, meaning commander of
the faithful, Is your lack of love for
me gonna prevent me from any of my
rights? And Umar says to him, no. Your
rights are secured.
My love for you is something else. Your
rights as a Muslim are secured. The man
then says, well, what do I care about
your love then? I don't care about your
love. But the point here is
that
say that you've done such an injury to
me by killing my brother,
that even if you've been forgiven by the
state, even though you are not accountable for
those crimes because of your reacceptance of Islam,
Ahmed is saying, I'm never gonna be we're
never gonna be like buddy buddy. Just stay
away from me.
And someone who had a bigger capacity, both
for forgiveness and for love, then Umar
was
himself.
We see the amount of people who had
done so much injury to the prophet
in Mecca and when they came back and
accepted Islam in Medina, the prophet
welcomed them and the prophet
forgave them. But an injury that transcended himself
was the murder of his uncle Hamza.
Washi,
who killed Hamza
at the Battle of Uhud, came to accept
Islam.
And when he did, the prophet
said, are you the one who they call
your And he said, yes. The prophet
said, can you distance your face away from
me? The prophet
was willing to accept the Islam of Washi,
but the idea of seeing him all of
the time and the reminder of the mutilation
of Hamza on the battlefield of Uhud and
seeing his killer was too much. And so
when
Allah appears, the merciful and the
loving,
or the forgiving and the loving,
it is incredibly inspiring because it shows us
that there is no one who is alive
on this earth, who's not beyond not only
being forgiven by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, but
being loved by Allah, no matter what the
crime is. So what are the ways that
we can garner the love of Allah
Firstly, to ask Allah for his love. Abu
Darda, radiallahu, he reported that Rasulullah
said, one of Dawud salallam's
supplications was, one of his duas was, Allahu
mayinias aluka hubbaq. Oh, Allah ask you for
your love.
And the love of those who you love.
And the love of actions that will garner
me, your love.
The love of deeds that will cause me
to attain your love. And the hadith is
reported by Tirmidhi. So that's number 1. Number
2 is to seek out the attributes that
Allah
loves. Look through the Quran and see what
Allah
says that he loves, and then go and
try to develop those attributes. For example, Allah
loves the people of taqwa. So let me
try to increase my taqwa. Allah
loves the mushineen, the people of Ihsan, the
people of goodness, the people of excellence. So
let me increase in my excellence. Allah
loves the tawabeen. Allah loves the people who
repent. And so let me repent to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala. Allah loves the.
Allah loves those who purify themselves. Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala loves those who follow the prophet
Allah
says, say if you love Allah, then follow
me. Follow Rasulullah
In doing so, Allah
will love you. And so the more I
want the love of Allah, the more willing
I am, the more concerned I am, the
more I care for following the sunnah of
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
To be reciprocated by the object of their
love. Thirdly, to increase in our worship. Because
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says in
hadith that's reported by Muslim that Allah
said, my servant does not come closer to
me with anything that's more beloved to me
than what I have obligated.
And my servant will continue to come closer
to me with voluntary
actions until I love them. And so doing
voluntary actions
increases Allah
love for you. So these are 3 ways
to come closer
to Al Wadud, the loving. May Allah write
us His love
and give us the love of those who
He loves and inspire us to actions that
will garner us His love.
