fitnah,

if you don't understand money as a possible

destructive

would not handle properly,

you will misinterpret

the situation of those who have wealth and

are sinful at the same time.

gave us something clear

to clarify this for us. So he said

is granting a servant of his

bounties of this world despite

that he is sinning

So when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

asks you to give,

you know very well that He's not asking

us to give because He needs us

but that we need to give.

You see the difference?

It's like the poor,

those that we call the needy, what do

they need from you? Your money.

But you need to spend that money.

Allah Azzawajal

take from their wealth meaning command them

to donate, to give, take from their wealth

a sadaqa

00:18:37 --> 00:18:39

that You purified them

and You elevate them with

00:18:42 --> 00:18:44

or bless them with.

00:18:44 --> 00:18:47

Take from their money a sadaqa

00:18:47 --> 00:18:48

that purifies

00:18:49 --> 00:18:50

and blesses them.

00:18:51 --> 00:18:53

So you need to purify yourself when you

00:18:53 --> 00:18:54

give.

00:18:54 --> 00:18:56

That's why you give.

Purify yourself from what?

look at other people because it's easy to

prepared to love Allah like that. So how

You remedy that by giving money to purify

you of greed,

purify you of stinginess,

of selfishness so that you're thinking about others

not just yourself

that you're putting Allah first not only your

needs.

So the more that you spend, the more

that you're treating yourself because you're taking the

illness

out of yourself and out of your hands

and into somewhere else.

You're moving the possession of that illness

somewhere else. I'm not the owner of that

learned to detach,

to give it up,

to favor something else. And when you do

you'll be less greedy,

less stingy,

00:20:42 --> 00:20:42

less ignorant

00:20:44 --> 00:20:46

and are more willing to give even more

00:20:47 --> 00:20:50

and more willing or able to love Allah

00:20:50 --> 00:20:53

subhanahu wa ta'ala because you've given it for

00:20:53 --> 00:20:53

Him.

See, you could

00:20:56 --> 00:20:57

give

00:20:58 --> 00:20:59

to Allah Azzawajal

because you love him more

00:21:01 --> 00:21:03

or maybe you have not reached that level

00:21:03 --> 00:21:05

yet but you wanna love him more so

00:21:05 --> 00:21:07

you give to attain that.

00:21:07 --> 00:21:10

You understand the difference between the two?

00:21:10 --> 00:21:12

You can give to Allah Azza wa Jal

00:21:12 --> 00:21:14

because you already love Allah more than you

00:21:14 --> 00:21:14

love money.

00:21:15 --> 00:21:16

Right?

00:21:16 --> 00:21:18

Or you can give to Allah Azza wa

00:21:18 --> 00:21:20

Jal because you're struggling with yourself because you

00:21:20 --> 00:21:23

wanna love Allah more than you love money.

00:21:25 --> 00:21:26

Either way.

00:21:28 --> 00:21:30

And the more that you love the thing

00:21:30 --> 00:21:32

that you give, the more that you have

00:21:32 --> 00:21:34

a chance of loving Allah because you spent

00:21:34 --> 00:21:34

it.

Ibn Mas'ud

when someone came to him and he said

He said, O Messenger of Allah,

what type of Salakah, what type of charity

will give me the greatest what

type of Sadaka will give me the greatest

reward? So he

He says that you would give charity

while you are healthy

and stingy,

your soul reaches your throat

can give sadaqah

when you're feeling like that then this is

a sadaqah that is coming from your heart

out of love

because of you struggled with yourself

00:24:20 --> 00:24:22

for that dollar to come out

00:24:22 --> 00:24:25

because that's the greatest sadaqah. And he said

alaihis salatu wa sallam when he continued and

don't wait till you're about to die

give my money. That's not generosity,

You know that you're not gonna live to

see all of it. That's why it's easy

to give it away

but when you feel that you're going to

spend all of it and then you give

00:24:44 --> 00:24:46

some of it or a lot of it

00:24:46 --> 00:24:48

then you really truly have given something to

00:24:48 --> 00:24:49

Allah Subhanahu

00:24:49 --> 00:24:50

Wa Ta'ala.

00:24:51 --> 00:24:52

So

00:24:57 --> 00:24:59

you will give from what you love

00:25:00 --> 00:25:02

because you're seeking a greater love.

00:25:06 --> 00:25:09

And you will give from what you love

00:25:10 --> 00:25:12

because you want to love the dunya less

00:25:13 --> 00:25:15

and you want to love Allah Azza wa

00:25:15 --> 00:25:17

Jin more. You wanna have a path

00:25:18 --> 00:25:20

towards the love of Allah. You wanna have

00:25:20 --> 00:25:21

a space in your heart, in your life

00:25:21 --> 00:25:23

to love Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

00:25:24 --> 00:25:25

So you spend

00:25:27 --> 00:25:28

on the things

00:25:29 --> 00:25:30

that matter to

00:25:30 --> 00:25:32

you, not the things that don't matter.

00:25:34 --> 00:25:36

So interestingly, Allah

00:25:37 --> 00:25:38

had noted

00:25:39 --> 00:25:41

what some of us do

00:25:42 --> 00:25:43

and he noted that in the Quran when

00:25:43 --> 00:25:45

he said, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,

00:25:52 --> 00:25:54

Oh, you who have a man spend

00:25:55 --> 00:25:57

from the good that you have earned

00:25:58 --> 00:26:00

and what we have given you from this

00:26:00 --> 00:26:00

earth.

00:26:04 --> 00:26:06

And do not seek the lowly,

00:26:09 --> 00:26:10

the inferior

00:26:10 --> 00:26:12

part of it to spend.

00:26:16 --> 00:26:17

And you would not take it

00:26:18 --> 00:26:20

unless you close your eyes when you're taking

00:26:20 --> 00:26:20

it.

00:26:23 --> 00:26:25

Know that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is self

00:26:25 --> 00:26:27

sufficient and praiseworthy.

00:26:29 --> 00:26:30

Meaning in this ayah Allah

00:26:31 --> 00:26:33

is telling us what to spend

00:26:33 --> 00:26:35

from what you earn, the good things that

00:26:35 --> 00:26:37

you earn and the things that we give

00:26:37 --> 00:26:37

you.

00:26:38 --> 00:26:40

But when you want to spend, don't seek

00:26:40 --> 00:26:42

the worst of it and give it away.

00:26:43 --> 00:26:45

Well, if it were to be given to

00:26:45 --> 00:26:47

you, you would not take it unless you

00:26:47 --> 00:26:49

would close your eyes and take it, meaning

00:26:49 --> 00:26:51

you would not take such a thing. You

00:26:51 --> 00:26:52

would not be happy with such a thing

00:26:52 --> 00:26:53

for yourself.

00:26:55 --> 00:26:57

Yet that's the thing you give away.

00:26:57 --> 00:26:58

So Allah

00:26:58 --> 00:27:01

is teaching us something here which is what?

00:27:01 --> 00:27:02

There are 2 types of spending.

00:27:04 --> 00:27:06

Spending from what you love and spending from

00:27:06 --> 00:27:08

things that you don't care for anymore.

00:27:09 --> 00:27:10

Are they the

00:27:12 --> 00:27:13

same? Now if there are things that you

00:27:13 --> 00:27:15

have at home that you're not gonna use

00:27:15 --> 00:27:15

anymore

00:27:16 --> 00:27:18

it's better that you give them to someone

00:27:18 --> 00:27:20

rather than throw them away, right?

00:27:21 --> 00:27:21

Right?

00:27:23 --> 00:27:25

But that's not the type of spending or

00:27:25 --> 00:27:26

sadaqa that Allah wants

00:27:27 --> 00:27:28

to push us to perform.

00:27:29 --> 00:27:31

Simply the things that you're gonna throw away

00:27:31 --> 00:27:33

then you say I'll give that away.

00:27:34 --> 00:27:35

That's garbage, that's junk.

00:27:36 --> 00:27:37

You don't really care about it.

00:27:38 --> 00:27:40

But is that loving for your brother what

00:27:40 --> 00:27:41

you love for yourself?

00:27:43 --> 00:27:44

Is this the thing that you would love

00:27:44 --> 00:27:46

to receive from other people?

00:27:46 --> 00:27:48

Would you accept this?

00:27:48 --> 00:27:50

Would you wear that? Would you use this?

00:27:50 --> 00:27:52

Would you eat that?

00:27:52 --> 00:27:54

So if this is not fit enough for

00:27:54 --> 00:27:56

you, why do you think this is fit

00:27:56 --> 00:27:58

enough to give Allah Azujal?

00:28:00 --> 00:28:03

Right. So Allah Azza wa Jal wants to

00:28:03 --> 00:28:03

elevate

00:28:04 --> 00:28:07

your perception of sadaqa. It's not garbage that

00:28:07 --> 00:28:09

I'm getting rid of

00:28:09 --> 00:28:12

but something that I'm giving Allah Azzawajal and

00:28:12 --> 00:28:15

I'm fusing to heal myself. So it has

00:28:15 --> 00:28:16

to come from something

00:28:17 --> 00:28:18

similar

00:28:18 --> 00:28:19

to what I love

00:28:20 --> 00:28:21

that honors

00:28:21 --> 00:28:22

the recipient

00:28:22 --> 00:28:25

but also before that honors Allah subhanahu wa

00:28:25 --> 00:28:26

ta'ala,

00:28:26 --> 00:28:29

the true recipient of sadaqa, and heals me

00:28:29 --> 00:28:30

in the process.

00:28:31 --> 00:28:33

So spending from what we love means things

00:28:33 --> 00:28:34

that we love

00:28:35 --> 00:28:37

during a time when we love to spend

00:28:37 --> 00:28:38

it or love to keep it.

00:28:39 --> 00:28:40

And only then would that struggle

00:28:41 --> 00:28:43

to spend mean a thing.

00:28:44 --> 00:28:45

Now

00:28:45 --> 00:28:47

we'll take just a small detour to understand

00:28:49 --> 00:28:52

why the prophet alaihis salatu wasallam directed Abu

00:28:52 --> 00:28:53

Abu Talha to give that money to his

00:28:53 --> 00:28:54

relatives

and the importance of kindness to relatives

00:28:57 --> 00:28:58

perhaps often this is something that is overlooked.

When we hear in the masjid, when we

read in books,

00:29:10 --> 00:29:13

reminders that we are supposed to be kind,

00:29:15 --> 00:29:16

have the best of character,

00:29:18 --> 00:29:19

treat people well.

00:29:20 --> 00:29:21

Usually in our mind,

00:29:22 --> 00:29:24

we reserve this to strangers,

00:29:26 --> 00:29:28

People I will meet in the Masjid,

00:29:28 --> 00:29:28

right?

00:29:29 --> 00:29:31

My neighbor, maybe.

00:29:32 --> 00:29:33

Stranger I'll meet

00:29:34 --> 00:29:35

outside the home,

00:29:36 --> 00:29:37

outside the Masjid.

00:29:38 --> 00:29:40

So be on my best behavior when I

00:29:40 --> 00:29:42

meet them, when I see them. That's what

00:29:42 --> 00:29:44

we think of when we think of character.

00:29:45 --> 00:29:48

But improved character or kindness, do we think

00:29:48 --> 00:29:49

that

00:29:49 --> 00:29:51

our families deserve the best of that

00:29:52 --> 00:29:53

or not?

00:29:54 --> 00:29:56

Usually, we exclude them from it.

00:29:57 --> 00:29:58

And we exclude them maybe because we have

00:29:58 --> 00:30:01

learned to exclude them whenever we think about

00:30:01 --> 00:30:02

how to act or react

00:30:03 --> 00:30:05

because after all this this is just family,

00:30:05 --> 00:30:06

right?

00:30:07 --> 00:30:09

Spouse, a child, a parent

00:30:09 --> 00:30:10

they're not strangers.

00:30:12 --> 00:30:13

At the same time

00:30:14 --> 00:30:17

it is harder to be kind to family

00:30:18 --> 00:30:19

than strangers.

00:30:22 --> 00:30:23

It's hard

or harder

to be kind to family than strangers

because with a stranger

you have no prior knowledge, no prior commitment,

and most importantly no friction between you and

them so you can be the nicest.

You could smile.

00:30:40 --> 00:30:42

Your encounter with them is brief and you

00:30:42 --> 00:30:44

are gonna then depart and leave them. They

00:30:44 --> 00:30:46

will leave you. So it's easy.

00:30:47 --> 00:30:48

It's not challenging,

00:30:48 --> 00:30:48

right.

00:30:50 --> 00:30:52

But when you're with a family member

00:30:52 --> 00:30:53

there is

00:30:53 --> 00:30:55

frequent conversations,

00:30:56 --> 00:30:57

there is friction,

00:30:57 --> 00:30:58

there is past

00:31:02 --> 00:31:03

insults or,

00:31:05 --> 00:31:07

what I'm looking for is

00:31:08 --> 00:31:09

animosity.

00:31:10 --> 00:31:12

So it's hard really

00:31:13 --> 00:31:15

to be your best with them

00:31:16 --> 00:31:18

And it's hard to remember then they deserve

00:31:18 --> 00:31:21

your charity more than a stranger or a

00:31:21 --> 00:31:22

non relative

00:31:23 --> 00:31:25

because when you are kind to a relative,

00:31:25 --> 00:31:26

you're doing 2 things

00:31:27 --> 00:31:28

there is kindness

00:31:29 --> 00:31:31

or if it is charity it is sadaqa

00:31:32 --> 00:31:33

but there's also

00:31:35 --> 00:31:38

Kindness to your kin, to your family. So

00:31:38 --> 00:31:40

Allah rewards you more for it because they

00:31:40 --> 00:31:41

are relatives.

00:31:42 --> 00:31:44

So if you have 2 people,

00:31:44 --> 00:31:47

a relative who needs your financial help and

00:31:47 --> 00:31:49

a stranger who needs your financial help,

00:31:50 --> 00:31:52

who is more worthy of it?

00:31:53 --> 00:31:54

The relative.

00:31:56 --> 00:31:56

Right?

00:31:57 --> 00:31:59

If there are 2 people who need help,

00:31:59 --> 00:32:01

1 is your neighbor and somebody else is

00:32:01 --> 00:32:02

a far, far neighbor,

00:32:03 --> 00:32:05

who is more worthy of it? The close

00:32:05 --> 00:32:06

or the far neighbor? The close

00:32:07 --> 00:32:10

one. So the closer to you, whether they

00:32:10 --> 00:32:12

are neighbors physically close to you or they

00:32:12 --> 00:32:14

are close because they are blood relatives,

00:32:15 --> 00:32:16

they need more of your kindness, more of

00:32:16 --> 00:32:19

your charity. So the Prophet alaihis salatu wa

00:32:19 --> 00:32:21

sallam in one sense he wants Abu Talha

00:32:22 --> 00:32:23

to get the most out of his sadaqa.

00:32:23 --> 00:32:25

So he says Give it to your relatives.

00:32:26 --> 00:32:28

So he gave it to his relatives.

00:32:29 --> 00:32:31

And at the same time, Allah

00:32:32 --> 00:32:34

Prophet He said pay attention to your relatives

00:32:34 --> 00:32:35

as well.

00:32:35 --> 00:32:37

Take care of them before you take care

00:32:37 --> 00:32:38

of strangers.

00:32:40 --> 00:32:42

Take care of their feelings, take care of

00:32:42 --> 00:32:44

their needs more than you do with strangers

00:32:45 --> 00:32:47

because they deserve it the most.

00:32:48 --> 00:32:50

And what is interesting also about

00:32:51 --> 00:32:53

the donation that Abu Talha

00:32:54 --> 00:32:55

gave.

00:32:56 --> 00:32:57

Now when Abu Talha

00:32:58 --> 00:32:59

said to the Prophet

take it, put it wherever Allah wants you

00:33:02 --> 00:33:05

to put it. Did he expect anything back

from it?

if the Prophet

would give it to anyone in Medina,

Abu Tal Haq would not expect a thank

He wouldn't expect a thank you because he

00:33:20 --> 00:33:22

just this is for you, do whatever you

00:33:22 --> 00:33:24

want with it. I'm not expecting anything back.

Now if Abu Talha

00:33:28 --> 00:33:30

took this and gave the garden

00:33:30 --> 00:33:32

whether divided it or gave it in whole

00:33:32 --> 00:33:34

doesn't matter took it and gave it to

00:33:34 --> 00:33:35

a relative,

00:33:36 --> 00:33:38

should he expect anything in return

00:33:38 --> 00:33:39

in terms of gratitude

00:33:40 --> 00:33:41

or thankfulness?

00:33:43 --> 00:33:45

In the same fashion he shouldn't,

00:33:45 --> 00:33:46

right?

00:33:47 --> 00:33:49

And in that there is another lesson.

If you want to do something good, don't

00:33:53 --> 00:33:53

expect

00:33:54 --> 00:33:55

anything from anyone,

00:33:57 --> 00:33:58

even relatives,

00:34:00 --> 00:34:01

even relatives.

00:34:02 --> 00:34:03

That is if you

It doesn't matter

to me if they visit back.

I didn't do it for that.

So you're not expecting anything from that.

And so if it doesn't happen, you're not

disappointed.

And if it happens, Alhamdulillah,

that's greater

family relations.

But if it doesn't, you're not expecting it.

Just like when you give someone money, you

00:34:45 --> 00:34:47

donate money in the masjid, you're not waiting

00:34:47 --> 00:34:50

to hear gratitude from them because they received

00:34:50 --> 00:34:52

something from you. You say this is for

00:34:53 --> 00:34:54

for Allah. The only thing that I need

00:34:54 --> 00:34:55

is from Him.

00:34:56 --> 00:34:57

So when you're

00:34:58 --> 00:34:59

performing

00:35:00 --> 00:35:01

or being kind

00:35:02 --> 00:35:03

to your family

00:35:03 --> 00:35:04

members

00:35:04 --> 00:35:05

close

00:35:05 --> 00:35:08

or not so close. Understand that if this

00:35:08 --> 00:35:09

is for Allah

00:35:10 --> 00:35:11

the most peaceful

00:35:12 --> 00:35:15

feeling would come when you don't expect anything

00:35:15 --> 00:35:17

in return from it but expect anything and

00:35:17 --> 00:35:20

everything from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Just like

00:35:20 --> 00:35:22

to family

and relatives,

right? Now, going back to what we talked

about, why loving money and loving the dunya

is so problematic.

The prophet said,

00:36:08 --> 00:36:08

He said,

00:36:11 --> 00:36:12

The one who

00:36:12 --> 00:36:13

loves

00:36:13 --> 00:36:14

their world,

00:36:14 --> 00:36:15

their dunya,

00:36:15 --> 00:36:17

will harm their akhira, their

00:36:18 --> 00:36:19

hereafter.

00:36:20 --> 00:36:22

And the one who loves the hereafter will

00:36:22 --> 00:36:23

harm their world.

00:36:24 --> 00:36:27

So give preference to what lasts over what

00:36:27 --> 00:36:27

perishes.

00:36:30 --> 00:36:31

So the Prophet

00:36:32 --> 00:36:34

here is declaring something that if you remember

00:36:35 --> 00:36:35

it,

00:36:36 --> 00:36:37

it will continuously

00:36:38 --> 00:36:39

shock you back

00:36:39 --> 00:36:40

to sanity

00:36:42 --> 00:36:44

as the world is filled with insanity.

00:36:46 --> 00:36:48

What he's saying, alayhi salatu wa salam, he

00:36:48 --> 00:36:50

says if you love your dunya,

00:36:50 --> 00:36:52

you're gonna harm your akhira.

00:36:54 --> 00:36:55

Is that clear?

Here's this dunya, and here's the Akhira. Here's

00:36:58 --> 00:36:59

this life. Here's the next life. He says

00:36:59 --> 00:37:01

you're gonna love this life. You're gonna harm

the next life.

00:37:03 --> 00:37:06

There's no compromise here. This is it.

You're gonna harm the next life you're gonna

harm this life.

ideally you want to say, I want both,

So what he's telling you,

He says, Favor what lasts

because that is what is going to stay.

If you harm your dunya, let it

it's gonna end anyway.

So if you live in a small house

rather than a palace,

00:37:51 --> 00:37:53

at the end of your life, both of

them become rubble.

00:37:55 --> 00:37:56

Then what?

00:37:58 --> 00:37:58

Right?

So you're not as healthy as everybody else.

At the end of both of your lives,

both of you are under

00:38:08 --> 00:38:09

6 feet,

00:38:10 --> 00:38:11

then what?

00:38:12 --> 00:38:13

What did your health do?

00:38:15 --> 00:38:17

So you're not as young, you're not as

00:38:17 --> 00:38:19

handsome, you're not as beautiful,

00:38:20 --> 00:38:21

you're not as rich.

00:38:22 --> 00:38:24

Well, at the end of your life and

00:38:24 --> 00:38:25

his life

00:38:26 --> 00:38:28

both of your wealth goes to some other

00:38:28 --> 00:38:28

people

00:38:29 --> 00:38:31

and both of you are poor under the

00:38:31 --> 00:38:32

dirt,

00:38:32 --> 00:38:33

then what?

00:38:35 --> 00:38:37

So all of you reach the same conclusion

00:38:37 --> 00:38:39

and the same end, having nothing

00:38:40 --> 00:38:41

if you have the dunya.

00:38:42 --> 00:38:44

You're the wealthiest in the dunya. You can

00:38:44 --> 00:38:46

compete, by the way, if you wish. The

00:38:46 --> 00:38:49

wealthiest person in the world today and you

00:38:51 --> 00:38:53

both of your lives will end the same.

00:38:55 --> 00:38:56

So the Prophet alaihis salatu wasalam is saying,

00:38:56 --> 00:38:58

Then what is the loss here?

00:38:58 --> 00:39:01

Even if you sacrifice this dunya for Allah

00:39:01 --> 00:39:02

Azza wa Jal, what did you really lose?

00:39:03 --> 00:39:06

But the akhira that is gonna stay for

00:39:06 --> 00:39:07

you. So favor that.

00:39:07 --> 00:39:09

So here there is really no compromise.

00:39:10 --> 00:39:13

If you favor the akhirah, you must harm

00:39:13 --> 00:39:15

I mean, you think about it if you

case? Imagine someone who has a shop,

who has a business.

Something haram comes and he says no,

00:39:28 --> 00:39:30

not gonna take it. Is he not gonna

00:39:30 --> 00:39:31

lose money?

00:39:32 --> 00:39:35

Versus someone who says yes to everything

00:39:35 --> 00:39:37

is not gonna be richer?

00:39:38 --> 00:39:40

Somebody who says now it's time for salah,

00:39:40 --> 00:39:42

I'm going to close my shop versus somebody

00:39:42 --> 00:39:44

who is working 20 fourseven,

00:39:44 --> 00:39:46

he doesn't care about salah time or anything

00:39:46 --> 00:39:46

else.

00:39:47 --> 00:39:47

No

00:39:48 --> 00:39:51

restraints. No moral boundaries. Is nina gonna become

00:39:51 --> 00:39:51

richer?

00:39:52 --> 00:39:53

Right?

00:39:54 --> 00:39:56

Somebody who doesn't mind to kill

00:39:56 --> 00:39:58

versus somebody who is virtuous and he says,

00:39:58 --> 00:40:00

no, this is haram. Don't you think the

00:40:00 --> 00:40:03

other person will be more powerful? Somebody who

00:40:03 --> 00:40:05

does not mind ruining people's lives in order

00:40:05 --> 00:40:07

to get what he wants versus somebody who's

00:40:07 --> 00:40:08

afraid of Allah

00:40:09 --> 00:40:11

Isn't the other person the virtuous is going

00:40:11 --> 00:40:13

to be less powerful than the other person?

00:40:14 --> 00:40:16

So he says if you favor the akhira

00:40:16 --> 00:40:17

your dunya must suffer

00:40:19 --> 00:40:20

but don't worry about it because all of

00:40:20 --> 00:40:22

it is gonna end but if you want

00:40:22 --> 00:40:25

the dunya then your akhira must suffer as

00:40:25 --> 00:40:25

well,

00:40:26 --> 00:40:28

and there's no middle ground here.

00:40:29 --> 00:40:32

So the believer develops and should develop an

00:40:32 --> 00:40:32

attitude

00:40:34 --> 00:40:36

of preferring the akhira.

Even if he loses

some of the dunya, and by the way,

you're not gonna lose all of the dunya.

There is time for it. There is space

for it. You're not gonna lose all of

it. You'll have whatever Allah had destined, had

written for you, but you're not gonna have

excessive

wealth

00:40:56 --> 00:40:57

like some

00:40:58 --> 00:40:59

greedy

disbelievers

00:41:01 --> 00:41:02

or sinful people do.

00:41:03 --> 00:41:06

And the attitude, in fact, should be

of distance from the dunya.

The attitude of the believer

00:41:15 --> 00:41:17

should be of one where he is distant

00:41:17 --> 00:41:18

from the dunya.

dunya. We'll explain Insha'Allah what that means.

with a clean heart and a truthful tongue.

Everyone with a clean heart and a truthful

tongue. They say, O Prophet of Allah, we

00:41:49 --> 00:41:52

know what a truthful tongue means But what

00:41:52 --> 00:41:54

is this Mahmumul Kalbi?

00:41:55 --> 00:41:56

They say he is

00:42:01 --> 00:42:03

Who is this one who has a clean

00:42:03 --> 00:42:05

heart? What is that? He says he's the

00:42:05 --> 00:42:06

one who has taqwa

00:42:07 --> 00:42:07

pure.

00:42:08 --> 00:42:10

His heart is pure. There is no sin

00:42:10 --> 00:42:12

in it. There's no transgression.

00:42:12 --> 00:42:14

There's no hatred and there's no envy.

00:42:15 --> 00:42:17

That's his heart. A clean heart.

00:42:19 --> 00:42:21

Then they said, O Messenger of Allah, then

00:42:21 --> 00:42:21

who?

00:42:25 --> 00:42:27

He says, The one who hates the duniya

00:42:27 --> 00:42:28

and loves the akhira.

00:42:30 --> 00:42:33

The one who hates the duniya and loves

00:42:33 --> 00:42:33

the akhira.

00:42:35 --> 00:42:37

Now it's important to understand what the Prophet

00:42:39 --> 00:42:40

meant when he said he hates

00:42:40 --> 00:42:41

the dunya.

00:42:43 --> 00:42:45

Because does that mean that he hates food

00:42:45 --> 00:42:45

and water,

00:42:47 --> 00:42:48

marriage and children,

00:42:49 --> 00:42:49

hates

00:42:50 --> 00:42:53

plants and animals on the mount. Does that

00:42:53 --> 00:42:55

mean hating the dunya? Or what does he

00:42:55 --> 00:42:57

mean by hating the dunya? Well, first of

00:42:57 --> 00:42:58

all, the Prophet

00:43:00 --> 00:43:01

aspects of this duniya.

00:43:02 --> 00:43:03

So he said in the hadith,

00:43:04 --> 00:43:04

He said,

00:43:10 --> 00:43:12

He said alayhi salatu was salam

00:43:12 --> 00:43:15

that women and perfume were made beloved to

00:43:15 --> 00:43:16

me from this world

00:43:17 --> 00:43:19

and my greatest joy is in salah.

00:43:20 --> 00:43:22

And note, by the way, this hadith,

00:43:22 --> 00:43:25

his greatest joy is worldly or otherworldly?

00:43:28 --> 00:43:30

His greatest joy is from the dunya or

00:43:30 --> 00:43:31

the akhira?

00:43:32 --> 00:43:32

The akhira.

00:43:34 --> 00:43:36

And it does actually say something if you

00:43:36 --> 00:43:37

were to ask yourself,

00:43:37 --> 00:43:39

What is your greatest joy?

00:43:40 --> 00:43:42

It's a really interesting question, by the way,

00:43:42 --> 00:43:44

to say what is the thing that gives

00:43:44 --> 00:43:46

me the greatest joy?

00:43:47 --> 00:43:48

And here you don't have to lie to

00:43:48 --> 00:43:50

anybody because it's just you and yourself.

00:43:51 --> 00:43:53

What is the thing that gives me the

00:43:53 --> 00:43:55

greatest joy? So if you were to ask

00:43:55 --> 00:43:57

Muhammad alaihis salatu wa salam, he would say

00:43:57 --> 00:43:57

salah,

00:44:00 --> 00:44:02

right? So just think about how much we

00:44:02 --> 00:44:03

would need to struggle

00:44:05 --> 00:44:06

until we could say

00:44:07 --> 00:44:09

I find my greatest joy in salah.

00:44:10 --> 00:44:11

Not in eating,

00:44:11 --> 00:44:12

not in traveling,

00:44:13 --> 00:44:15

not in talking to so and so

00:44:16 --> 00:44:17

but in talking to Allah

00:44:18 --> 00:44:20

that's my greatest joy.

00:44:20 --> 00:44:21

Just

00:44:21 --> 00:44:23

think about it and that is and by

00:44:23 --> 00:44:25

the way, don't say, oh, that was the

00:44:25 --> 00:44:25

Prophet

00:44:25 --> 00:44:26

and

00:44:26 --> 00:44:28

it's so difficult for us to do this

00:44:28 --> 00:44:29

so we're not gonna do it.

00:44:29 --> 00:44:31

So how is he an example if you're

00:44:31 --> 00:44:33

not gonna do this? This is he's the

00:44:33 --> 00:44:36

model. So in your mind you should say,

00:44:36 --> 00:44:37

I'm gonna try to do that.

00:44:38 --> 00:44:40

I'm gonna try to do that or die

00:44:40 --> 00:44:41

trying

00:44:42 --> 00:44:43

but at least

00:44:43 --> 00:44:44

that's the goal, right?

00:44:47 --> 00:44:50

So the Prophet alaihis salatu wa sallam loved

00:44:50 --> 00:44:52

things from this dunya. He did not hate

00:44:52 --> 00:44:53

the dunya in that way.

00:44:54 --> 00:44:56

And the Prophet married and he had children

00:44:56 --> 00:44:58

and he recommended both.

00:44:58 --> 00:45:01

So what does it mean to hate the

00:45:01 --> 00:45:01

dunya?

00:45:03 --> 00:45:05

It means first of all to hate the

00:45:05 --> 00:45:06

Haram that is in it.

00:45:08 --> 00:45:11

Then to hate anything that is in it

00:45:11 --> 00:45:14

that distracts you and distances you from Allah

00:45:14 --> 00:45:15

Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

00:45:16 --> 00:45:18

that aspect of the dunya should be disliked

00:45:18 --> 00:45:19

and hated

00:45:20 --> 00:45:23

and anything in the Duniya that brings you

00:45:23 --> 00:45:23

to Allah

00:45:24 --> 00:45:26

should be praised and loved.

00:45:28 --> 00:45:29

So for instance,

00:45:29 --> 00:45:32

if I cannot avoid the Haram except by

00:45:32 --> 00:45:36

adopting the halal, isn't the halal then recommended

00:45:36 --> 00:45:38

or even an obligation to adopt?

00:45:38 --> 00:45:40

Like marriage, for instance,

00:45:42 --> 00:45:43

or having a halal job.

00:45:45 --> 00:45:48

So since it is a fence against the

00:45:48 --> 00:45:49

Haram, it is praiseworthy.

00:45:50 --> 00:45:52

You do not hate that

00:45:52 --> 00:45:54

because it takes you closer to Allah Subhanahu

00:45:54 --> 00:45:55

Wa Ta'ala.

00:45:56 --> 00:45:57

But a job that you

00:45:58 --> 00:45:59

take

00:46:00 --> 00:46:02

and that thing starts to distract you from

00:46:02 --> 00:46:04

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

00:46:05 --> 00:46:05

until

00:46:06 --> 00:46:06

you are

00:46:07 --> 00:46:09

immersed in haram

00:46:09 --> 00:46:11

or you're immersed in

00:46:12 --> 00:46:12

ignorance

00:46:13 --> 00:46:13

and

00:46:14 --> 00:46:16

neglect of Him, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,

00:46:16 --> 00:46:18

that becomes something that you should hate.

00:46:20 --> 00:46:22

So as a principle, what is the dunya

00:46:22 --> 00:46:25

that we're supposed to distance ourselves from?

00:46:25 --> 00:46:28

And the dunya that we're supposed to hate?

00:46:28 --> 00:46:30

Anything that takes you away from Allah Subhanahu

00:46:30 --> 00:46:32

Wa Ta'ala then that is hateful.

00:46:33 --> 00:46:34

That could be haram,

00:46:35 --> 00:46:37

that could be the doubtful,

00:46:38 --> 00:46:39

that could be the disliked

00:46:39 --> 00:46:41

and that could be excessive

00:46:41 --> 00:46:42

halal

00:46:43 --> 00:46:44

that you do not need.

00:46:46 --> 00:46:48

An excessive halal that

00:46:50 --> 00:46:52

takes you away from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala

00:46:52 --> 00:46:55

becomes something that is not for you but

00:46:55 --> 00:46:56

against you.

00:46:56 --> 00:46:58

It doesn't help you but harm you.

00:46:59 --> 00:47:02

Like someone who has a business, Alhamdulillah, his

00:47:02 --> 00:47:03

business is profitable.

00:47:04 --> 00:47:07

He keeps expanding that business until he forgets

00:47:07 --> 00:47:07

about Allah.

00:47:08 --> 00:47:09

That expansion

00:47:10 --> 00:47:11

is disliked or Haram.

00:47:13 --> 00:47:15

Even though in essence if he can find

00:47:15 --> 00:47:16

the balance, it's halal.

00:47:18 --> 00:47:20

But because he could not, it becomes haram

00:47:20 --> 00:47:21

for him.

00:47:22 --> 00:47:23

So you understand

00:47:24 --> 00:47:26

the balance here. If it takes you away

00:47:26 --> 00:47:28

from Allah, Azzawajal, it becomes

00:47:28 --> 00:47:29

harmful

00:47:29 --> 00:47:31

part of the dunya that we're supposed to

00:47:31 --> 00:47:34

stay away from and supposed to

00:47:35 --> 00:47:36

protect ourselves from.

00:47:37 --> 00:47:38

And it's important

00:47:39 --> 00:47:40

to constantly

00:47:41 --> 00:47:42

remind ourselves

00:47:43 --> 00:47:44

of the value of the dunya, of the

00:47:44 --> 00:47:46

true value of the dunya.

00:47:47 --> 00:47:49

And these types of ahadith are

00:47:50 --> 00:47:52

helpful because they do settle in the heart

00:47:53 --> 00:47:54

and emphasize

00:47:55 --> 00:47:58

how fleeting the dunya is or how small

00:47:58 --> 00:47:59

it is

00:47:59 --> 00:48:02

for Allah Azza wa Jal and also in

00:48:02 --> 00:48:03

the eyes of the righteous.

00:48:03 --> 00:48:06

So in the following hadith, the Prophet sallallahu

alaihi wa sallam

00:48:07 --> 00:48:08

entered

00:48:09 --> 00:48:10

the market in Medina

00:48:11 --> 00:48:12

and found

00:48:13 --> 00:48:14

what did he find here?

A dead short eared young goat.

00:48:18 --> 00:48:19

So a dead goat

00:48:20 --> 00:48:21

just laying around,

00:48:21 --> 00:48:23

right? Somebody threw it away.

00:48:26 --> 00:48:28

So he held it by its ear,

00:48:28 --> 00:48:29

that dead goat.

00:48:30 --> 00:48:31

And he says, Who among you would like

00:48:31 --> 00:48:33

to buy this with 1 dirham?

00:48:34 --> 00:48:36

So I don't know. You can think of

00:48:36 --> 00:48:37

$5 or $1.

00:48:38 --> 00:48:39

Who would love to buy this for a

00:48:39 --> 00:48:40

dollar?

00:48:41 --> 00:48:43

So they say, O prophet of Allah, we

00:48:43 --> 00:48:44

would not wanna buy it for a dollar.

00:48:44 --> 00:48:46

What would we do with it?

00:48:47 --> 00:48:49

So he said would you like that it

00:48:49 --> 00:48:49

is yours?

00:48:50 --> 00:48:52

They said no. He repeated this would you

00:48:52 --> 00:48:53

like that this is yours? Would you like

00:48:53 --> 00:48:55

the ticket? Would you like that this is

00:48:55 --> 00:48:57

yours? He said that three times. He said,

00:48:57 --> 00:48:59

O Prophet of Allah, no. Even if it

00:48:59 --> 00:49:00

was alive, it's defective

00:49:01 --> 00:49:02

and it has small ears.

00:49:03 --> 00:49:05

Even then we do not want it even

00:49:05 --> 00:49:06

if it's alive. So he said

00:49:08 --> 00:49:10

the duniya weighs less or is less

00:49:11 --> 00:49:14

for Allah Azzawajal, then this goat is for

00:49:14 --> 00:49:14

you.

00:49:16 --> 00:49:17

This goat for you is nothing.

00:49:18 --> 00:49:20

You don't want to even take it for

00:49:20 --> 00:49:20

free,

00:49:21 --> 00:49:21

right?

00:49:22 --> 00:49:23

It's just garbage.

00:49:24 --> 00:49:26

So he says the dunya for Allah

that this is how Allah

sees the dunya,

then it should just melt away.

Anything and everything that is in it should

00:49:39 --> 00:49:39

just disappear

00:49:40 --> 00:49:41

from before your eyes

00:49:42 --> 00:49:43

because Allah sees this as nothing.

00:49:44 --> 00:49:46

You know, like when you see skyscrapers

00:49:46 --> 00:49:49

and you see modern buildings and you see

00:49:50 --> 00:49:52

decorations here and gold and silver and this

00:49:52 --> 00:49:54

glitters and this that shines,

00:49:55 --> 00:49:56

shines and it impresses you,

00:49:57 --> 00:50:00

all of that really impresses you and you

00:50:00 --> 00:50:02

see palaces and expensive cars and all that

00:50:03 --> 00:50:05

impresses you and you see tons and tons

00:50:05 --> 00:50:08

of gold and silver and it impresses you

00:50:08 --> 00:50:09

but when you hear that hadith,

00:50:10 --> 00:50:12

all this is supposed to melt away. This

00:50:12 --> 00:50:12

is nothing

00:50:13 --> 00:50:15

for Allah Azza wa. And then you will

00:50:15 --> 00:50:19

understand its reality that it is not real.

00:50:19 --> 00:50:21

It exists but it's not real.

00:50:22 --> 00:50:25

Sayyid, what is real? What is valuable

00:50:25 --> 00:50:27

in the sight of Allah Azza wa Jal?

00:50:28 --> 00:50:29

He said

he gives examples so that people can understand

she camels

00:50:59 --> 00:51:02

without being guilty of sin or severing ties

00:51:02 --> 00:51:02

of kinship.

00:51:04 --> 00:51:06

They said, O Messenger of Allah, each one

00:51:06 --> 00:51:08

of us would like to do this.

00:51:09 --> 00:51:09

So he

00:51:10 --> 00:51:11

said if one of you would go in

00:51:11 --> 00:51:13

the morning to the Masjid and he would

00:51:13 --> 00:51:16

learn or he would read 2 ayahs from

00:51:16 --> 00:51:16

the book of

00:51:17 --> 00:51:19

Allah that would be better than 2 camels

00:51:19 --> 00:51:21

and if you learn and read 2 or

00:51:21 --> 00:51:23

3 ayahs from the book of Allah that

00:51:23 --> 00:51:25

would be better than 3 camels and whatever

00:51:26 --> 00:51:28

number of ayahs you would learn will be

00:51:28 --> 00:51:30

better than their number of camels.

00:51:32 --> 00:51:33

So you understand

00:51:34 --> 00:51:34

this example.

He's saying Alaihi Salatu Wasallam, would you like

to get free camels?

00:51:42 --> 00:51:42

Free.

How much would a camel cost today?

the way that the sahaba used to live

if you were to simply come to the

00:52:58 --> 00:53:00

masjid because today you would you could say

00:53:00 --> 00:53:02

to yourself, you know what,

00:53:03 --> 00:53:04

I can't compete with the richest man in

00:53:04 --> 00:53:07

the world today because we probably today he

00:53:07 --> 00:53:08

had won

00:53:08 --> 00:53:09

how many 1,000?

00:53:10 --> 00:53:12

He had made how many 1,000 just today.

00:53:14 --> 00:53:15

I didn't

earn much today, right?

But you can compete

of Allah

So you're the winner not the loser but

the eyes of the believer,

not the eye of the disbeliever.

The way that we see things today,

we have the eyes of the disbelievers.

Do you believe me?

The way that we see things today, we're

00:53:54 --> 00:53:54

not judging

00:53:55 --> 00:53:56

like a believer judges things.

00:53:57 --> 00:54:00

How a prophet would see the world today,

00:54:00 --> 00:54:02

that's not how we see the world today.

00:54:02 --> 00:54:04

We see it how a Kafir sees the

00:54:04 --> 00:54:06

world today and that's why we feel sorry

00:54:06 --> 00:54:07

for ourselves.

00:54:08 --> 00:54:10

But if you see it as a prophet

00:54:10 --> 00:54:11

would see it, as a believer would see

00:54:11 --> 00:54:13

it, it's say, why do I need to

00:54:13 --> 00:54:15

compete with him in getting 100 of 1,000

00:54:15 --> 00:54:18

of dollars and he's gonna lose that anyway

00:54:18 --> 00:54:19

and it's not adding

00:54:20 --> 00:54:22

to any piety of his or bringing him

00:54:22 --> 00:54:23

closer to Allah

00:54:24 --> 00:54:25

But if you come to the Masjid and

00:54:25 --> 00:54:26

you learn your religion,

00:54:27 --> 00:54:30

then you've learned something invaluable that no other

00:54:30 --> 00:54:31

rich person can supersede.

00:54:33 --> 00:54:35

You're the winner and you're richer because of

00:54:35 --> 00:54:35

it.

00:54:36 --> 00:54:38

So if you read these hadith and you

00:54:38 --> 00:54:40

remember these hadith, you will believe

00:54:41 --> 00:54:42

and again

00:54:43 --> 00:54:45

firmly attach yourself

00:54:45 --> 00:54:47

to what Allah values

00:54:47 --> 00:54:49

not what humans do.

00:54:50 --> 00:54:51

And if someone says

00:54:53 --> 00:54:54

as if we need

00:54:54 --> 00:54:56

more evidence to convince us,

00:54:57 --> 00:54:58

Well,

00:55:00 --> 00:55:02

I love the dunya. No matter, I'm just

00:55:02 --> 00:55:03

gonna keep loving it.

00:55:04 --> 00:55:07

And I have time and maybe later I

00:55:07 --> 00:55:09

could repent and maybe later I could love

00:55:09 --> 00:55:11

Allah Azzajal and and and.

00:55:12 --> 00:55:14

Or we have to say that we are

00:55:14 --> 00:55:15

out of time.

00:55:17 --> 00:55:19

Not the least of which because when you

00:55:19 --> 00:55:21

love the dunya so much it weakens you

00:55:22 --> 00:55:25

to the extent that your enemies overpower you.

00:55:26 --> 00:55:28

So if you look at Muslims today,

00:55:29 --> 00:55:31

would you say that they are strong or

00:55:31 --> 00:55:32

weak?

00:55:34 --> 00:55:37

Weak, right? I don't even have to ask

00:55:37 --> 00:55:38

you, right? They are weak.

00:55:39 --> 00:55:41

If you want to locate the reason for

00:55:41 --> 00:55:42

that weakness

00:55:42 --> 00:55:45

because everybody would say I want the Muslims

00:55:45 --> 00:55:46

to be strong today,

00:55:47 --> 00:55:49

this minute, this minute

00:55:49 --> 00:55:51

because we can't wait anymore, right? You would

00:55:51 --> 00:55:52

agree?

00:55:52 --> 00:55:54

I want it to be strong now.

00:55:55 --> 00:55:57

Well, the Prophet alaihis salatu wa sallam is

00:55:57 --> 00:55:59

gonna tell you that the reason why they

00:55:59 --> 00:56:01

are weak is because they love the dunya.

00:56:03 --> 00:56:03

Period.

00:56:05 --> 00:56:07

So you can't afford to continue to love

00:56:07 --> 00:56:09

the dunya regardless of the consequences

00:56:09 --> 00:56:11

because the consequences are destructive.

00:56:12 --> 00:56:14

Even if you don't care about the hereafter,

00:56:14 --> 00:56:17

it is destructive right here and right now

00:56:17 --> 00:56:20

because you are being killed because of it.

00:56:21 --> 00:56:22

So when He said

00:56:28 --> 00:56:30

He says the nations are about to invite

00:56:30 --> 00:56:33

each other to attack you like people invite

00:56:33 --> 00:56:34

each other to eat

00:56:35 --> 00:56:36

on, you know, one big dish.

00:56:38 --> 00:56:40

And they said, O Prophet of Allah, are

00:56:40 --> 00:56:42

we few at that time? And he said,

00:56:42 --> 00:56:45

alaihis salatu wa sallam, no, there's a lot

00:56:45 --> 00:56:46

of you then, but you are

00:56:47 --> 00:56:48

a dredge like the dredge

00:56:49 --> 00:56:51

of, a stream or you are dregs of

00:56:51 --> 00:56:52

a stream.

00:56:53 --> 00:56:55

You will be like the dregs of a

00:56:55 --> 00:56:58

stream what floats on top of a stream

00:56:58 --> 00:57:00

or on top of water. And he said

00:57:08 --> 00:57:09

So Allah

00:57:09 --> 00:57:11

is gonna extract from the hearts of your

00:57:11 --> 00:57:14

enemy any fear that they have towards you

00:57:14 --> 00:57:17

and they will deposit weakness in your heart.

00:57:17 --> 00:57:19

So they said, O prophet of Allah, what

00:57:19 --> 00:57:22

is this weakness? He said, loving the dunya

00:57:22 --> 00:57:23

and hating death.

00:57:24 --> 00:57:26

So the essence of it all, it goes

00:57:26 --> 00:57:29

back to the heart. He says your hearts

00:57:29 --> 00:57:29

are weak

00:57:30 --> 00:57:32

and your enemies are not afraid of you.

00:57:33 --> 00:57:34

Why our hearts are weak? He said, You

00:57:34 --> 00:57:36

love the dunya and you're afraid of death.

00:57:37 --> 00:57:37

This is it.

00:57:39 --> 00:57:40

So the more that you love the dunya,

00:57:40 --> 00:57:42

the more that you are attached to it

00:57:42 --> 00:57:43

and when you are attached to it, you're

00:57:43 --> 00:57:46

not going to sacrifice anything for Allah's sake.

00:57:47 --> 00:57:49

You'll favor it over Allah.

00:57:49 --> 00:57:52

You'll favor it over listening to Him. And

00:57:52 --> 00:57:53

it's of course then

00:57:53 --> 00:57:55

you're not gonna sacrifice your life,

00:57:56 --> 00:57:57

you're not gonna listen to Him, Subhanahu Wa

00:57:57 --> 00:57:58

Ta'ala.

00:57:58 --> 00:58:01

Your enemies will overpower you, your enemies will

00:58:01 --> 00:58:03

kill you, and you'll be too cowardly

00:58:03 --> 00:58:04

to act.

00:58:06 --> 00:58:08

So in order to

00:58:09 --> 00:58:10

free the heart

00:58:10 --> 00:58:12

from its enslavement to the dunya

00:58:13 --> 00:58:15

and weaken the Muslim body in general against

00:58:15 --> 00:58:17

their enemy, you need

00:58:18 --> 00:58:20

to rid yourself of the love of the

00:58:20 --> 00:58:22

dunya or at least excessive love of the

00:58:22 --> 00:58:22

dunya.

00:58:23 --> 00:58:26

And what helps you also is to understand

00:58:26 --> 00:58:28

that eventually you are gonna lose it anyway

00:58:29 --> 00:58:30

all of it is gonna go anyway.

00:58:31 --> 00:58:32

So if you don't give it up now

00:58:32 --> 00:58:34

it's gonna leave you later.

00:58:35 --> 00:58:38

And it eventually does not amount to much

00:58:38 --> 00:58:40

and it's not even anything

00:58:42 --> 00:58:44

Not only with Allah Azza wa Jal but

00:58:44 --> 00:58:46

also for the believers who pass on to

00:58:46 --> 00:58:47

the next life.

00:58:48 --> 00:58:49

This dunya does not matter to them at

00:58:49 --> 00:58:52

all when they understand the reality of the

00:58:52 --> 00:58:53

next life.

00:58:53 --> 00:58:54

So this hadith

00:58:56 --> 00:58:59

and the prophet alaihis salatu was salam he

00:58:59 --> 00:59:00

said,

00:59:07 --> 00:59:08

He said there is no

00:59:08 --> 00:59:11

one on this earth who passes away, dies.

00:59:12 --> 00:59:13

And what they have with Allah

00:59:14 --> 00:59:16

is something that they are pleased with, meaning

00:59:16 --> 00:59:17

that they are righteous.

00:59:18 --> 00:59:20

When they see what they have with Allah

00:59:21 --> 00:59:23

they never want to come back to this

00:59:23 --> 00:59:23

life

00:59:24 --> 00:59:25

even if you give it everything in this

00:59:25 --> 00:59:26

life.

00:59:28 --> 00:59:29

So

00:59:29 --> 00:59:31

you get what the Prophet alaihis salatu wasalam

00:59:31 --> 00:59:33

is saying? He says if you were to

00:59:33 --> 00:59:34

die

00:59:35 --> 00:59:36

and you're in the next life and you

00:59:36 --> 00:59:39

see what Allah has prepared for you then

00:59:39 --> 00:59:40

Allah gives you the option. Do you want

00:59:40 --> 00:59:41

to go back to this dunya?

00:59:42 --> 00:59:43

What would you say?

00:59:44 --> 00:59:45

Never.

00:59:45 --> 00:59:47

He says, If I'm gonna give you all

00:59:47 --> 00:59:48

this dunya,

00:59:49 --> 00:59:51

not just make you the richest person who

00:59:51 --> 00:59:52

had ever lived. No.

00:59:53 --> 00:59:55

All of this dunya and no one has

00:59:55 --> 00:59:57

all of this dunya. I'll give it all

00:59:57 --> 00:59:59

to you. Would you want to go back?

00:59:59 --> 00:59:59

You say no

01:00:00 --> 01:00:01

except for one.

01:00:03 --> 01:00:03

He said

01:00:07 --> 01:00:09

accept the shahid, the martyr.

01:00:13 --> 01:00:15

Except the martyr, he would love to go

01:00:15 --> 01:00:16

back to be killed again

01:00:18 --> 01:00:19

for Allah's sake.

01:00:20 --> 01:00:23

You see how great what He witnesses, the

01:00:23 --> 01:00:23

shaheed,

01:00:25 --> 01:00:28

that it is better than this entire earth,

01:00:29 --> 01:00:30

right?

01:00:30 --> 01:00:33

Cause that's the only incentive that supersedes it

01:00:33 --> 01:00:35

that is more than it because Allah

01:00:35 --> 01:00:37

if He were to say take all of

01:00:37 --> 01:00:39

this dunya and go back to earth, go

01:00:39 --> 01:00:41

back to this worldly life, he would say

01:00:41 --> 01:00:41

never.

01:00:43 --> 01:00:44

After what I've seen here

01:00:44 --> 01:00:46

I would never want to go back

01:00:48 --> 01:00:51

except if a person is shaheed.

01:00:52 --> 01:00:53

What he sees of Allah's

01:00:54 --> 01:00:55

welcome

01:00:56 --> 01:00:57

and mercy and honor

01:00:58 --> 01:01:00

is greater than anything in the duniya.

01:01:02 --> 01:01:03

And this is what what I said

01:01:04 --> 01:01:06

recently. It says when you look at people

01:01:06 --> 01:01:09

who are killed for Allah's sake,

01:01:10 --> 01:01:11

you feel so sorry for them,

01:01:13 --> 01:01:13

right.

01:01:13 --> 01:01:15

And some people start to lose their faith

01:01:15 --> 01:01:17

because what is happening to them but you

01:01:17 --> 01:01:20

don't realize that if Allah had led them

01:01:20 --> 01:01:22

to shahada, to martyr them,

01:01:23 --> 01:01:26

they have received the greatest gift possible.

01:01:28 --> 01:01:30

So you shouldn't cry over them but cry

01:01:30 --> 01:01:31

over yourself

01:01:32 --> 01:01:34

who had been denied that gift.

01:01:35 --> 01:01:36

Of course, we don't want Muslims to be

01:01:36 --> 01:01:37

harmed and killed

01:01:38 --> 01:01:40

but I'm saying look at it not only

01:01:40 --> 01:01:42

from the perspective of this life and what

01:01:42 --> 01:01:42

is happening

01:01:43 --> 01:01:45

but from the perspective of the next life

01:01:45 --> 01:01:47

and what Allah has promised those

01:01:47 --> 01:01:49

who are martyred, who are killed.

01:01:50 --> 01:01:50

Right.

01:01:50 --> 01:01:53

So if this dunya is nothing in the

01:01:53 --> 01:01:55

sight of Allah Azza Wa Jal

01:01:55 --> 01:01:57

and it's gonna end anyway and

01:01:58 --> 01:01:59

if we need

01:02:01 --> 01:02:02

to give up some of it,

01:02:03 --> 01:02:04

especially the parts of it that we love

01:02:04 --> 01:02:06

to get to get Allah's love,

01:02:07 --> 01:02:09

then we should start thinking about giving up

01:02:09 --> 01:02:11

more and more of it

01:02:11 --> 01:02:13

for the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

01:02:13 --> 01:02:14

And as

01:02:15 --> 01:02:16

the Nun is gonna say now,

01:02:17 --> 01:02:18

the love of Allah and the love of

01:02:18 --> 01:02:21

the dunya are always in competition and

01:02:21 --> 01:02:23

they cannot coexist

01:02:23 --> 01:02:24

in a person's heart.

01:02:25 --> 01:02:26

So this is what he said,

01:02:41 --> 01:02:43

He says know that Allah's beloved

01:02:44 --> 01:02:47

does not consider any sacrifice for Allah's sake

01:02:47 --> 01:02:48

to be too big

01:02:48 --> 01:02:50

because for them there is nothing greater than

01:02:50 --> 01:02:51

Allah.

01:02:53 --> 01:02:55

There is nothing that you can give up

01:02:55 --> 01:02:56

for Allah

01:02:56 --> 01:02:59

is too big because already for you,

01:02:59 --> 01:03:01

with you, in your heart

01:03:01 --> 01:03:02

Allah is the biggest.

01:03:04 --> 01:03:07

Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest

01:03:07 --> 01:03:09

love that you have. So there is no

01:03:09 --> 01:03:11

thing as this is too much sacrifice.

01:03:13 --> 01:03:13

Allah

01:03:17 --> 01:03:19

is always more important than that.

01:03:26 --> 01:03:28

He says, So the one who loves Allah

01:03:29 --> 01:03:31

must exhibit the mark of that

01:03:31 --> 01:03:33

in terms of rejection of the dunya

01:03:34 --> 01:03:36

distance from the dunya meaning if you really

01:03:36 --> 01:03:36

love Allah

01:03:37 --> 01:03:39

then you should manifest

01:03:39 --> 01:03:41

a distance from the dunya

01:03:42 --> 01:03:44

that reflects how much you love Allah.

01:03:49 --> 01:03:50

Because it's impossible,

01:03:51 --> 01:03:51

he said,

01:03:52 --> 01:03:54

that the love of Allah could coexist in

01:03:54 --> 01:03:56

the heart with the love of the dunya

01:04:01 --> 01:04:02

So whoever loves Allah

01:04:03 --> 01:04:05

does not give much weight to what he

01:04:05 --> 01:04:07

receives from the dunya. He does not think

01:04:07 --> 01:04:10

of it to be much to be celebrated.

01:04:13 --> 01:04:16

And He does not need anything from someone

01:04:16 --> 01:04:18

other than the one that He loves.

01:04:20 --> 01:04:21

Now this is

01:04:22 --> 01:04:22

deep,

01:04:23 --> 01:04:25

right? This is really deep

01:04:26 --> 01:04:28

and don't think that if you just read

01:04:28 --> 01:04:30

it or if I just read it we

understand it.

This requires

and struggle for you to start to feel

nothing is too big to be sacrificed for

salam sacrificing his son Ismail.

Nothing is too big

01:04:56 --> 01:04:57

to give to Allah Azzur.

Not time, not money,

01:05:00 --> 01:05:01

not family,

01:05:02 --> 01:05:02

not myself.

01:05:05 --> 01:05:07

And what he is saying, he says you

01:05:07 --> 01:05:08

can't love 2 at the same time not

01:05:08 --> 01:05:10

the dunya and Allah.

01:05:12 --> 01:05:14

What he means by that is what? What

is dominant

can only be 1. You can love Allah

01:05:18 --> 01:05:20

and love parts of the dunya

01:05:20 --> 01:05:22

but those parts of the dunya are not

dominant.

1 is dominant.

01:05:26 --> 01:05:28

You have 1 rabb, 1 Ilah, and 1

01:05:28 --> 01:05:30

master. You don't have multiple masters.

01:05:31 --> 01:05:33

So if the love of Allah is dominant,

01:05:34 --> 01:05:35

the dunya cannot compete

01:05:36 --> 01:05:38

and you'll give up the dunya for Allah

01:05:38 --> 01:05:39

Azzawajal.

If the love of the dunya is dominant,

01:05:41 --> 01:05:43

you'll give up Allah for the dunya

And that is the struggle and that is

tawheed and that is shirk.

Shirk is not always

lowering your head to an idol.

Shirk is sometimes lowering your heart

01:05:59 --> 01:06:01

to an idol that is on the inside,

01:06:02 --> 01:06:04

to a love that is on the inside.

01:06:05 --> 01:06:06

So

01:06:06 --> 01:06:08

when we give from what we love,

01:06:09 --> 01:06:10

we're trying to fight that

01:06:12 --> 01:06:13

because the love of dunya is not gonna

01:06:13 --> 01:06:15

leave our hearts that easily.

And the love of

01:06:17 --> 01:06:19

Allah is not gonna grow in the heart

that easily. It has to be

01:06:21 --> 01:06:23

pushed. We have to strive.

So you have to look at the things

that you love, and whenever you see them

01:06:28 --> 01:06:30

competing with Allah's love, you have to say

01:06:30 --> 01:06:32

Allah should come first.

01:06:33 --> 01:06:35

Even if I'm not at the level where

01:06:35 --> 01:06:37

naturally Allah is coming first,

01:06:37 --> 01:06:40

you say Allah should come first. Push yourself.

That competition

what you love more.

This is impossible

that

you love Allah Azawajal

01:07:10 --> 01:07:12

more and you don't respond to His call.

01:07:14 --> 01:07:16

And we mentioned before the reason why we

01:07:16 --> 01:07:18

commit a sin is why?

01:07:19 --> 01:07:22

Because we love that sin at that moment

01:07:22 --> 01:07:23

more than we love Allah.

01:07:23 --> 01:07:25

It'd be impossible again

01:07:26 --> 01:07:28

if we love Allah more at that time

01:07:29 --> 01:07:30

for us to commit that sin.

01:07:32 --> 01:07:32

So

01:07:33 --> 01:07:36

the Noun Rahimahullah is saying

01:07:36 --> 01:07:38

what? If Allah is truly great in your

01:07:38 --> 01:07:39

heart,

01:07:40 --> 01:07:42

then nothing would be equal to Him.

01:07:45 --> 01:07:47

if you want Allah to be great in

01:07:47 --> 01:07:47

your heart

01:07:48 --> 01:07:50

you have to take the love of Dhaniyah

out of it.

And one way

to do that

is to follow the Sharia of Muhammad

Ibrahim Abu Adam said this on page 407,

He says, Wara,

which is leaving the haram and doubtful matters,

leads 1 to Zuhd, which is turning away

01:08:20 --> 01:08:21

from the world.

And turning away from the world leads one

01:08:24 --> 01:08:25

to the love of Allah Azzud.

01:08:27 --> 01:08:29

So Ibn 'Adham here is saying

as if the Sharia,

all of it is designed

01:08:34 --> 01:08:36

to lead you gradually to the love of

01:08:36 --> 01:08:38

Allah Azza wa Jal. What is the first

01:08:38 --> 01:08:41

level he's talking about? He's saying warah.

01:08:41 --> 01:08:44

Warah is turning away from the haram. He's

01:08:44 --> 01:08:45

saying, no, this is haram. I'm not gonna

01:08:45 --> 01:08:48

do it. And that's Haram. I'm not gonna

01:08:48 --> 01:08:48

Add to it doubtful matters. Al Mushtabihat

They say this is ambiguous. This could be

right or could be wrong. Could be haram

or could be halal. Better stay away from

it. They say if you do this,

then you will shun, you will stay away

from a large portion of this dunya.

01:09:09 --> 01:09:10

Right or wrong?

01:09:12 --> 01:09:14

A large portion of that duniya

01:09:15 --> 01:09:17

that is destructive, that is harmful.

01:09:18 --> 01:09:20

When you say no to the haram

01:09:21 --> 01:09:22

and to what is doubtful,

01:09:23 --> 01:09:26

you've distanced yourself already from parts of that

01:09:26 --> 01:09:26

dunya

01:09:27 --> 01:09:28

that are very destructive.

That's your first level.

And if you manage to fulfill that level,

01:09:36 --> 01:09:37

he says, then comes Zuhd.

And Zuhd is turning away from the world,

01:09:41 --> 01:09:42

meaning the unnecessary,

01:09:44 --> 01:09:46

the non beneficial part of it.

01:09:47 --> 01:09:49

So you look for instance at, I could

01:09:49 --> 01:09:51

buy this mansion or this house, but this

01:09:51 --> 01:09:53

house is enough for me. I don't need

01:09:53 --> 01:09:55

that mansion. So you will have zuhd in

01:09:55 --> 01:09:57

it. So you buy what is less. I

01:09:57 --> 01:09:59

can buy this expensive brand but this lesser

01:09:59 --> 01:10:02

brand does the job so you buy this

01:10:02 --> 01:10:03

not that.

01:10:04 --> 01:10:06

I can be extravagant or I could be

01:10:06 --> 01:10:09

humble. Being humble is better. So you be

01:10:09 --> 01:10:11

humble instead of being extravagant. So that type

01:10:11 --> 01:10:15

of zuhd which is shunning the dunya, excessive

01:10:15 --> 01:10:17

dunya, turns you away from further

01:10:18 --> 01:10:19

parts of it.

01:10:20 --> 01:10:21

And when you

01:10:21 --> 01:10:23

diminish, when you decrease the love of the

01:10:23 --> 01:10:26

dunya and the place that it has in

01:10:26 --> 01:10:27

your heart,

01:10:27 --> 01:10:30

you're not spending time on it, you're not

01:10:30 --> 01:10:32

worried about it, you're not thinking about it,

01:10:33 --> 01:10:35

then the rest of the heart is free

01:10:35 --> 01:10:36

to think about Allah

01:10:39 --> 01:10:39

right?

01:10:39 --> 01:10:41

And that's how it leads you to the

01:10:41 --> 01:10:43

love of Allah it empties the heart of

01:10:43 --> 01:10:44

the dunya

01:10:44 --> 01:10:46

to allow Allah to enter your heart

01:10:47 --> 01:10:48

but if you don't do this,

01:10:49 --> 01:10:52

the dunya will occupy the heart and displace

01:10:52 --> 01:10:53

Allah from it.

01:10:55 --> 01:10:56

So then think to yourself,

01:10:57 --> 01:10:58

what do you worry about the most?

01:10:59 --> 01:11:01

What do you think about the most?

01:11:02 --> 01:11:04

What do you want to achieve the most?

01:11:04 --> 01:11:06

And if it's all related to the dunya,

then the dunya and its love is what

01:11:08 --> 01:11:09

is dominant,

not Allah

What do I do?

Don't think about the Haram or seek it.

Don't seek

or partake of the ambiguous.

Stay away from

it. The next step,

non beneficial,

excessive, extra, extravagant.

It's halal,

but it's not needed, and it's distracting.

Try to gradually withdraw from it.

01:11:42 --> 01:11:44

What do I replace it with?

Things that please Allah Azza wa Jal. And

be patient

01:11:49 --> 01:11:51

and ask Allah for support

01:11:53 --> 01:11:56

until you start to actually value and love

what Allah loves

01:11:58 --> 01:12:00

more than what yourself likes,

more than what other people like.

And then you would have achieved

the love of Allah Azza wa Jal or

01:12:09 --> 01:12:10

at least

01:12:10 --> 01:12:12

the possibility and the potential to love Him

01:12:12 --> 01:12:14

Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

So what we want to take and learn

01:12:18 --> 01:12:19

from this hadith

is what Allah Azzawajal said in the ayah

You'll not be able to conquer the love

01:12:29 --> 01:12:31

that you have for this dunya

01:12:31 --> 01:12:33

until you give up what you love from

01:12:33 --> 01:12:34

it for Allah's sake.

01:12:35 --> 01:12:38

Right? You're not gonna be able to conquer

01:12:38 --> 01:12:40

the love that the hold that this world

01:12:40 --> 01:12:41

has

01:12:41 --> 01:12:43

on you. You will not be able to

01:12:43 --> 01:12:45

defeat it until you spend from what you

01:12:45 --> 01:12:47

love and give that to Allah Azza wa

01:12:47 --> 01:12:50

Jal. When you start the process and you

01:12:50 --> 01:12:52

push yourself, they give up

01:12:52 --> 01:12:54

wealth but not only that

01:12:55 --> 01:12:57

time as well,

01:12:57 --> 01:12:58

body

01:12:58 --> 01:12:59

as well,

01:13:00 --> 01:13:03

your thoughts, what you're thinking about as well

01:13:03 --> 01:13:04

to give that for Allah

01:13:06 --> 01:13:07

and withdraw that from the dunya,

only

then would you be available to love Allah

But if not, the dunya will not allow

you to love Allah. We'll continue to struggle.

haram, I'm not going to be wasteful,

I'm gonna be more mindful of giving to

01:13:52 --> 01:13:54

Allah Azza wa Jal to those who need

01:13:54 --> 01:13:56

it, I'm gonna try to give from what

01:13:56 --> 01:13:59

I love for Allah's love. If you try

to institute

01:14:00 --> 01:14:02

some of these practices,

01:14:02 --> 01:14:05

even small steps that you take each day

or each week that you can build on

with time, that would be progress towards Allah's

love.

And if you monitor

the state of your heart and what you

love and what is competing

01:14:16 --> 01:14:19

for your attention, you'll understand from time to

01:14:19 --> 01:14:22

time, oh, I'm drifting akhira? No. It doesn't.

Then why am I worried about it?

Why am I paying attention to it? Why

01:14:32 --> 01:14:35

shouldn't I refocus my energy, attention, money,

01:14:35 --> 01:14:38

body, life towards what's gonna last rather than

the thing that's gonna end and perish.

spouse and children and parents and anyone who's

around him and you will not be able

to be fully right with people around you

unless you have Allah's guidance to support you

and unless you have patience to be able

01:16:15 --> 01:16:16

to sustain

01:16:17 --> 01:16:19

a proper relationship with people. How do you

01:16:19 --> 01:16:20

know what is right and what is wrong

01:16:20 --> 01:16:23

with people unless Allah tells you how to

01:16:23 --> 01:16:23

act?

01:16:24 --> 01:16:26

Right? That this is right, this is wrong,

01:16:26 --> 01:16:28

this is halal, this is haram. So for

01:16:28 --> 01:16:31

him to be absolutely right with people around

01:16:31 --> 01:16:31

though he is not right with Allah Azza

wa Jal, that is not possible. For him

a daily reminder.

And if you need a daily reminder and

all of us need it, it comes through

Qur'anic recitation

and readings of the hadith of the Prophet

alaihis salatu wa sallam because you are being

bombarded daily

with a viewpoint of the disbelievers.

As soon as you turn on

something that brings information whether it's TV,

computer, your phone, whatever you receive information through,

the information

lens of a disbeliever

and it reflects their view of the dunya,

not the view the Muslim view of this

world but the disbelievers view of this world.

So there's always this shift in your mind

towards what they think and what they believe.

So you need to bring yourself back. How

do you bring yourself back? You need that

daily reminder and that daily reminder is in

the Quran and in the Sunnah.

So you can't do without that daily reminder.

And the more that you learn,

the better equipped you are to see the

reality of this life and to decipher

to know right from wrong

block the attempts of misinterpreting

degree. Alhamdulillah. Good. Is it going to enable

you to get a job, to get money,

and all of that? But how are you

going to use this to please Allah? That's

the question. How is this going to bring

you to Allah Azza wa Jal? That's how

the celebration of the dunya does not turn

into vanity.

What is best what what best to do

as parents when we see the competition

that our children have,

that struggle seeming like he put other matters

could help others. Not so that you would

be the best. Then what are you gonna

do with being the best?

What if you are the smartest

or the wealthiest or the fastest

01:20:32 --> 01:20:34

or the one who can jump the highest,

01:20:34 --> 01:20:35

but then what are you going to do

with this?

01:20:37 --> 01:20:39

So simply it's just to,

glorify yourself,

01:20:42 --> 01:20:43

then all that is wasted.

All that is wasted.

But if it is to help other people,

if you want to compete to help other

people,

then your competition matters.

and remind them to make it for Allah

that what they feel that the serenity,

the peace,

just the joy and you say come back

01:25:21 --> 01:25:23

to the dunya. You say but

01:25:24 --> 01:25:25

I would never do

01:25:25 --> 01:25:27

this. Leave this to that.

I was struggling, I was

01:25:30 --> 01:25:31

unhappy, I was depressed

01:25:32 --> 01:25:34

but here it's so blissful,

it's so peaceful.

Now imagine the shahid saying I would leave

all of that, to go back to the

dunya,

all of its trouble to be killed

to be in battle again

am received by Allah Azza wa Jal, all

the honor,

That is at the level where a person

would sleep for Allah's sake, eat for Allah's

sake, work for Allah's sake,

speak for Allah's sake, be quiet for Allah's

sake. So anything to them that is permissible

01:27:28 --> 01:27:30

but does not lead to Allah they don't

01:27:30 --> 01:27:31

engage in

01:27:31 --> 01:27:33

and anything that they engage in is for

01:27:33 --> 01:27:34

Allah Azzawal.

01:27:34 --> 01:27:37

Even anything permissible that they do. So they

01:27:37 --> 01:27:39

marry for Allah's sake, they have children for

01:27:39 --> 01:27:41

Allah's sake that is the highest level of

01:27:41 --> 01:27:43

zuhl. So all of their life is for

01:27:43 --> 01:27:46

Allah and it is distant from anything that

01:27:47 --> 01:27:48

is away from Muhammad.

than the killed one? No. Just the killed
