In the name of Allah and praise be
to Allah and peace and blessings be upon
the Messenger of Allah and upon his family
and companions.
O Allah, teach us what will benefit us
and benefit us with what you have taught
us and increase us in knowledge, O Lord
of the worlds.
O Allah, help us to remember You and
thank You for Your good worship.
So last time, we've talked about sakratul mawt,
the stupor of death, the difficulty and the
agony of death, and we explained what that
means.
And we can't leave that point before stressing
the importance of repentance before that moment arrives.
And Allah, Azza wa Jal, said, إِنَّمَا التَّوْبَةُ
عَلَى اللَّهِ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ سُوءًا بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ
مِنْ قَرِيبٍ He says, Allah, Azza wa Jal,
will accept the repentance of those who will
do bad things ignorantly and then they repent
short after.
Allah, Azza wa Jal, then will accept their
repentance.
Because
you've seen from the signs of Allah عز
و جل What should push you, compel you
to be a believer And Iman should be
by choice Not after you've seen all those
signs from Allah عز و جل Connected to
it And something kind of to prepare a
person for that time Two hadiths and then
an ayah The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
said اعبد الله كأنك تراه He says worship
Allah as if you can see him That's
one وعدد نفسك في الموت And consider yourself
to be among the dead واذكر الله عند
كل حجر وعند كل شجر And remember Allah
عز و جل next to every stone and
next to every tree وإذا عملت سيئة فعمل
بجنبها حسنة If you do something bad, do
right next to it Beside it something good
السر بالسر والعلانية بالعلانية The one that is
private, a private sin Then a private good
deed And the public sin, a public good
deed Meaning that will erase it So this
is a really nice hadith Because he said
صلى الله عليه وسلم اعبد الله كأنك تراه
Worship Allah as if you see him So
if you want to enhance your worship What
do you do?
You try to imagine that Allah عز و
جل is watching you Or that you are
seeing him And that will enhance your worship
The more that you bring this into your
mind The better your ibadah will be And
he says وعدد نفسك في الموت Consider yourself
among the dead Meaning think to yourself I'm
dead right now What would I want?
What would I regret?
What would I change?
I'm almost dead because I am dying Like
I'm walking, marching towards my death How should
my life be different?
Imagine if you're in the grave Imagine if
you're answering the questions of the angels Imagine
if you're receiving the good or the bad
news from them Consider yourself as if you
are dead or about to die And then
see how that changes you And see what
you want to fix about yourself What you
want to enhance When you want to leave
So اعدد نفسك في الموت He says I'm
almost among the dead I'm almost among those
in that graveyard And he said and if
you do something bad And all of us
do He says couple that Join it immediately
with something good If what you've done that
is bad is private Then a private good
deed Could be public if you want But
to make it easy If it's private in
secret Let there be also something in private
and in secret But if it is public,
go public And then he also said عليه
الصلاة والسلام أعذر الله إلى مرئٍ أخر أجله
حتى بلغه ستين سنة He said عليه الصلاة
والسلام Allah has removed the excuses of someone
Whom he had made reach 60 years of
age Right Why is that?
Now the ayah That we'll read inshallah explains
it Allah azawajal says وهم يصطرخون فيها ربنا
أخرجنا نعمل صالحا غير الذي كنا نعمل He
says they'll be screaming in it Saying ya
Allah get us out of it So that
we will do good unlike what we used
to do Allah azawajal says أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُمْ مَا
يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَنْ تَذَكَّرَ وَجَاءَكُمُ النَّذِيرُ He says
did we not extend your life sufficiently So
if you wanted to remember you could remember
That is we prolonged your life The time
of which if someone really wanted to remember
he could remember And the warner came to
you So what is this warner?
What is the thing that warns you about
your being finite Approaching death He says
Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم is Nadheer The
Quran is Nadheer Grey hair is Nadheer Loved
ones dying around you is Nadheer All of
this And reaching 60 years is also Nadheer
Because what this ayah is saying And what
the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم had said
in that hadith is what He says if
Allah extends your life until 60 Then where
is your excuse right now to say I
didn't hear I didn't know I did not
have enough time By 60 you had I
mean in the eyes of Allah عز و
جل You had enough time It doesn't mean
on the one hand that if you're 20
if you're 30 you say well I have
an excuse No you may not You may
not Because you know what is right and
what is wrong But he's saying that if
Allah عز و جل was generous enough with
you That he made you live until you
are 60 Then you can't say I did
not know I did not understand I didn't
have the time So Allah عز و جل
says عمرناكم meaning we gave you enough time
that if you really wanted You could have
done it You could have remembered Now one
thing to worry about And it doesn't mean
that everybody will face this At the moment
of death or just before it is the
temptation of shaytan And the shaytan may attack
And it doesn't mean that he will attack
everyone But he may attack So two hadiths
here One that you probably know very well
Part of the dua of the Prophet عليه
الصلاة والسلام Is that he used to say
اللهم إني أعوذ بك من عذاب القبر I
seek your protection from the punishment of the
grave And from the punishment of النار ومن
عذاب النار ومن فتنة المحيا والممات And from
the fitna of life and death ومن فتنة
المسيح الدجال And of the fitna of the
imposter messiah You know this hadith?
You probably repeat it What is the fitna
of life and death?
Now the fitna of life is clear Anything
that takes you away from Allah عز و
جل Right?
What is the fitna of death?
It is what you will face at the
moment of death That will take you away
from Allah عز و جل Which includes the
attack of shaytan If the shaytan was to
attack It also can include what?
To face what you cannot bear Because your
iman is weak Just like when you are
alive Allah عز و جل will send you
tests Right?
If your iman is weak You cannot bear
it Not that the test is great But
iman is what?
Weak Because someone may say Didn't Allah say
that he will not Send upon a person
what he cannot bear?
It's not that what Allah sends One cannot
bear But it's just what?
The health of that person His iman is
weak That makes whatever is sent his way
unbearable Just like an illness Right?
If you have immunity You can fight it
It's not that that illness is fatal Right?
It's not fatal So Allah said I'm not
sending you something fatal What makes it fatal?
You made yourself weak Right?
So here that's the fitna of death Which
includes as we said The attack of shaytan
But something that is more explicit Rasulullah salallahu
alayhi wa sallam Part of his dua He
would say اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الهدم
Ya Allah I seek your protection from Dying
under the rubble ومن التردي From falling from
a height and dying ومن الغرق From dying
by drowning والحرق Or by being burnt alive
والحرم Old age And here he means He's
not saying Ya Allah take my life Before
I reach old age But from senility Being
senile And that was associated typically with Being
very old So you could be old But
without this But the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa
sallam Is saying Don't let me If I
do become old Become senile وعوذ بك من
أن يتخبطني الشيطان عند الموت And I seek
your protection That the shaytan should attack me
At the time of death And I seek
your protection That I should die Fleeing the
battle scene And I seek your protection That
I die Bitten by a poisonous animal Or
a poisonous insect So One thing here is
that Remember that when we said before That
some of these things Are shahada Martyrdom Remember?
That was last week So we said like
If you're burnt alive You die under the
rubble And all of this That is shahada
Martyrdom Yet here the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa
sallam Is saying Protect me from it So
you can say How come?
He said Because on the one hand You're
not asking for it And that could be
something That could be unbearable for you Or
people around you Right?
Could be difficult for them So he's saying
Ya Allah protect me from this But if
Allah were to choose That you die this
way Then that's the best way Right?
That's one The explicit part here is And
I seek your protection From the attacks of
shaytan At the moment of death Now not
everybody will be attacked And we don't know
who will be attacked And who will not
be attacked But this is the last moment
Where the shaytan will try to sway you
Will try to misguide you And he either
catches you or not So some people will
be protected Some people will be tested And
they are tested Because they are strong And
some people will be tested And they are
tested Because they are weak We don't have
really A principle here to apply Of who
will be protected or who not You just
simply ask Allah Azza wa Jal To protect
you And there's a famous story About Imam
Ahmed Rahimahullah When he was dying He would
fall into unconsciousness They would hear him say
Laysa ba'du laysa ba'd Not yet, not yet
Then he'll regain consciousness So they asked him
When you kind of lose consciousness This is
what you're saying Then when you come back
You're not saying that What do you mean
by this He says because when I fall
unconscious Like agony Difficulty of death When I
lose consciousness I see the shaytan standing And
he says Ya Ahmed futtani futtani Ya Ahmed
you escaped me You're gonna escape me Right
So the shaytan is terrified Of the fact
that I couldn't get you And this is
the last moment I cannot get you It
says you have escaped me And so Ahmed
Rahimahullah He says not yet And it didn't
escape you yet Not until I die Then
I'm done, then I'm safe So that's an
example That the shaytan could attack But the
scholars have said It is not necessarily common
But could it happen Yes, and so this
is something That a person will need Allah's
protection From Now, when a person dies When
the soul is about to go, the angels
descend So now we're gonna start talking About
that phase When the angels come down And
there are a couple of ayat And definitely
Several ahadith about this So One ayah Allah
azawajal Said It says those who do
not Think that they're gonna see us, gonna
meet us Will be resurrected It says why
not the angels will descend So that we
can see them or we can just publicly
See our Rabb It says indeed they are
arrogant in themselves And they are truly rebellious
It says On the day when they will
see the angels That will not be good
news for them For the criminals They will
say protect us Hijra mahjura is a phrase
In Arabic, mean protect us, please protect us
Subhanallah it's an interesting ayah They're saying we
wanna see the angels Let them come down
You say there are angels They bring Allah's
revelation, this and that Let them come down
and see them Allah is saying they are
truly arrogant When you're gonna see the angels
That's not gonna be a good day for
you And you will seek shelter from what
you Are asking for right now Because those
will be the angels of Punishment Allah azawajal
says also Those whom the angels will take
their souls While they are pure, while they
are righteous They will tell them Salaam alaikum
And we said salaam alaikum Could mean a
greeting Or a greeting and You're safe Because
throughout your life you're running away from Things
that could harm you And during death You're
trying to run away also from the last
Temptations, from your sins From you know Psychological
Physical pressure So when the angels come to
take the soul Of that believer, they will
tell him you are safe That's it You've
arrived, you know You've arrived You're safe now,
no harm anymore Salaam alaikum Enter heaven Because
of what you used to do And we
mentioned that third ayah If he is from
The people of the right They will receive
a greeting You are from There's a hadith
from the prophet That tells us about That
good news or the bad news that the
person Receives and what emotions This will bring
to him At that moment of death He
said He says the one who loves to
meet Allah Allah will love to meet him
And the one who hates to meet Allah
Allah will hate to meet him So Aisha
Or one of his wives She said O
prophet of Allah, but all of us hate
death He said this is not it Believer
When he is about to die, he will
be given the good news Of the pleasure
of Allah And his mercy Then nothing will
be more Beloved to him than what lies
ahead So he loves to meet Allah And
then Allah loves to meet him And the
disbeliever When he is When the angels are
present And they give him the bad news
of what Awaits him Then he, and what
awaits him is Allah's Punishment and his anger
Then he would hate to meet Allah And
Allah would hate to meet him So both
Will receive that news And this hadith in
fact I think we mentioned this hadith in
the previous series This is love You could
actually extend it Beyond what the prophet Sallallahu
alayhi wasallam Has mentioned, which is at the
moment of death Which is that, if you
are alive today And you cannot Wait to
see Allah azawajal You would love to meet
Allah azawajal Then guess what, Allah also would
Want to see you, Allah would want to
meet you Allah would want to be close
to you And bring you close to him
So if you love Allah, Allah will love
you If you love meeting Allah, Allah loves
meeting you And at the moment of death
This intensifies, because you don't Understand, what is
waiting for you Everything beautiful Then you don't
want to go back And you would love
to meet Allah, and Allah loves to meet
you And that makes death Easier More pleasant,
more comfortable The opposite of course Is for
the disbeliever Who When he's given the bad
news of what he's going To meet and
what Awaits him, he'll be Hating the meeting
of Allah azawajal And Allah azawajal had already
hated Meeting him, and he will hate That
even more There's also A hadith in the
Prophet ﷺ And this is a lengthy hadith
And it's probably the most comprehensive Hadith that
describes that Moment of death Till a person
is put in the grave And that's the
hadith of Al-Baraa ibn Aazib ورضي الله
عنه And he describes Here, the burying Of
a man from the Ansar This is one
of those days, the Prophet ﷺ Came out
with us, and they're Burying one person from
the Ansar قال فانتهينا إلى القبر ولم يلحد
He says we've arrived At that grave, and
they have not Dug it yet, and we'll
talk about The digging of the grave if
Allah azawajal Allows us, because the grave The
lahd, you dig down And then to the
sides So this Was not dug yet So
the Prophet ﷺ, he sat down And he
was facing the Qibla And he said we
all sat down Quietly next to him, as
if the birds Are standing on our heads,
meaning they Really are quiet, and they're not
Moving He had a stick in his hand
And he would play with the sand The
Prophet ﷺ, then look At the sky, and
look Down, and look up And then look
down, he said, he did that Three times,
up and down, up and down Up and
down And then he said, seek Allah's protection
From the punishment of the grave He said
that twice, or Three times, and then He
himself He said, O Allah I seek Your
protection from the punishment in the grave He
said it three times ثم قال, then he
said And now he's going to describe it
قال إن العبد المؤمن إذا كان في انقطاع
من الدنيا وإقبال من الآخرة He says when
a person is about To leave this world
And move into the next, the Akhira And
this is the believer He says Angels from
above Will descend, white faces Their faces Resemble
the sun Right, I'm just simply Going to
translate Right معهم كفن من أكفان الجنة They
have shrouds, kafan From Jannah وحنوت And perfume
from Jannah And they will sit Close to
him, as far as he can see That's
the first Thing that he's going to see,
the angel of death Has not come yet,
but he sees those angels They come from
above In the vehicle, let's say Or what's
going to carry his soul The shroud is
from Jannah The perfume is from Jannah Then
the angel of death عليه السلام By the
way, that is his formal And only name
in Islam Israel is not In the Quran
and Sunnah So we know him only as
what?
The angel of death So he sits Next
to his head And he says, oh this
pure Righteous soul Or contented Secured Soul Come
out to a forgiveness of Allah and pleasure
Come out So that's the final exit قال
فتسيل كما تسيل القطرة من في السقاء So
it will Come out like a drop of
water From A container of water drops See
how easy it is It just flows out
Drops out It says he takes it Right
And when he takes it They will not
leave it a blink of an eye In
his hand They will take it and put
it in that shroud And in that perfume
And this is Allah Saying Our messengers will
take his soul And they are careful and
observant In what they are doing و يخرج
منها طيب كأطيب نفحة مسكن وجدت على وجه
الأرض And he will smell like the best
Of musk that had ever Been found on
the face of this earth And they take
now his soul Upward He take his soul
upward So every angel Along the way will
inquire Who is this?
Or every gathering of angels He will inquire,
what is this beautiful soul?
What is this Righteous soul?
They will say so and so, son of
so and so With the best name that
he enjoyed While he was alive Until they
will reach the lowest heaven So along the
way They will meet those angels Gatherings of
angels Everybody will smell that perfume that is
coming from Jannah And another hadith itself Everybody,
all the angels They just want to come
and smell him Because of how beautiful that
smell is So they gather just to smell
And they inquire And they are intrigued about
who is this unique Distinct person They will
say oh this is so and so Son
of so and so So he is someone
Being escorted up They will come to To
the lowest heaven And they will ask permission
to enter And they will be given permission
And then The angels of each Heaven or
each Sky, they will be like His entourage,
his gathering Escorting him, his escort They will
escort him up to the next one They
will seek permission He will be given permission
And then he will be escorted by the
angels of the second sky And the third
sky And the fourth sky, each one of
them Asking who is he Being impressed by
that smell And being introduced By the best
names That he had in the dunya He
says Until they reach the seventh sky Then
Allah azza wa jalla Will say He says
Write the book of deeds Of my servant
In the highest of highs Keep his book
there Or write it there And Allah in
the ayah What should make you understand what
It's a book Written down Being witnessed by
those who are close To Allah azza wa
jalla Then his book will be written Then
it will be said Or Allah will say
Bring him back to earth Because I have
promised him I created them from it And
will return them to it And I will
resurrect them from it So He'll be returned
to this earth And his soul Shall re
-enter His body And then two angels will
come to him And he can hear His
family's Footsteps as they leave His grave He's
aware He can feel the footsteps And the
angels come And they are described here They
are harsh and stern And we will see
inshallah Further descriptions of them In following hadith
Meaning they're not playing around They're really rough
They'll sit him up And they will say
He says who is your Rabb He says
Allah is my Rabb He says what is
your religion He says my religion is Islam
They will say who is this man Who
was sent among you And notice here that
They don't name him And you'll understand in
other hadith why Because that's part of the
difficulty in it Because they're basically asking Who
is this man So he said Right He
is the messenger of Allah He is the
messenger of Allah Peace be upon him Then
they'll ask him How did you know Because
we famously understand That the questions in the
grave are what 3 1,2,3 right
But there is one that is part of
them Or if you wish you can make
it the fourth Which is yes you've answered
1,2,3 How did you know How
did you know He says He says I've
read the book of Allah And I believed
in it That it contains the truth This
is how I know This is my proof
So he repeats this question All three again
Harshly And he says who is your Rabb
What is your religion and who is your
prophet And he says this is the last
Fitna That he will face So this is
a fitna Why is a fitna You know
when you want to test someone If they
know the answer or not So what do
you do You tell them what's 1 plus
1 It says 2 And you want to
know if they're sure or not It says
I've asked you 1 plus 1 is what
To make them doubt the answer Right And
if you're sure you'll bring the same answer
If not you'll question yourself So that repetition
That's a fitna Right He says It is
then that Allah Says Allah will hold steadfast
Those who believe With that firm saying With
the firm belief in the dunya Meaning it
is then It's only based on Allah's confirmation
of iman in you That you'll be able
to Answer back and speak the truth And
not be frightened Because of what they're saying
And how intimidating they are So when he
answers Allah is my Rabb Islam is my
religion and Muhammad Is my messenger and prophet
Then there will be a call from the
sky Coming and saying Indeed he had spoken
the truth He's honest Meaning he had passed
So furnish his grave It will continue saying
Furnish his grave from jannah And clothe him
from jannah And open a door for him
to jannah So he will smell it And
he will get its perfumes And his grave
Will be expanded as far as his eye
can see As far as he can see
In all directions He says He says And
after this A man will come to him
Or a person will come to him Handsome
Beautiful clothes Beautiful smell And then he will
tell him He says Receive the good news
of What is ever going to please you
Receive the good news Of what is going
to please you A forgiveness from Allah azza
wa jal And jannas from Allah azza wa
jal That you will be everlasting in This
is the day that you were promised He
will say And may Allah also grant you
good news Who are you Because your face
is the face of someone Who relays good
news He says I am your good deeds
I am your good deeds But I swear
by Allah I knew you to be Obedient
and quick In obeying Allah azza wa jal
And very slow In the disobedience of Allah
azza wa jal May Allah reward you well
Jazakallahu khaira And then he will see Two
doors One to heaven and one to *
And he will tell him This would have
been your house In * fire Had you
disobeyed But Allah had replaced you Instead of
this That mansion in heaven Because you have
obeyed him And he will be able to
see that When he sees jannah He will
say So when he sees heaven And what
Allah has for him in heaven He says
Ya Allah bring the day of judgment Very
quickly so that I can go Back to
my family and I can go Back to
my things Bring it back very quickly But
he will be Say to him quiet Be
still So he is over excited He says
no be still this is not the time
Yet And another hadith That we may encounter
He said let me go and tell my
family Right Let me go and tell them
Let me leave to tell my family He
says no you can't be still So that's
the example of the believer Right Now the
opposite The disbeliever or the sinful In another
narration He says when leaving this life And
heading into the hereafter Angels From above they
will enter They are rough And cruel and
harsh Black faces They have clothes From *
fire Made from fire and it is Sack
cloth Meaning rough Meaning these types of clothes
are made from hair In this world And
they are uncomfortable To wear Right So extremely
uncomfortable Clothes that have come From * fire
That are made with fire So they will
come to him And they will Sit next
to him as far as he can see
Then the angel of death will come Sit
next to his head And he says Oh
you wicked soul Come out to an anger
That you will receive from Allah Allah When
the soul hears this It flees into the
body It tries to flee Into the whole
body Running from that bad news And what
could come to it So he says He
rips it out like you rip out An
iron Rod That has hooks Stuck into Damp
wet wool Right So imagine right Something like
that it has hooks And it's wet and
it's a metal rod And that wool will
stick to it It's not easy to come
out So he rips it out Like that
That's the difficulty Because it doesn't want to
leave The soul of the believer Wants to
The soul of the disbeliever Wants to stay
here And is terrified of what is awaiting
it So he says That is agonizing He
says The limbs feel that agony And parts
of his body feel that agony As he
is being ripped out So he takes it
out And if he takes it He will
not leave it in his hand Until they
put it in those clothes From * fire
The sack cloth from * fire And then
he will smell like the foulest smell You
could ever face on the face of this
earth And then they will climb with it
And whatever angel smells it He will say
what is this wicked soul What is this
wicked smell They say so and so Son
of so and so With the most terrible
of names That he hated in this world
Until they reach The lowest heaven They will
ask for permission to entry But they will
not be granted And the prophet Recited the
ayah لا تفتح لهم أبواب السماء The gates
of the heavens Or the doors of heaven
will not be opened for them Then Allah
azza wa jal said اكتب كتابه في سجين
في الأرض السفلاء Write his book in the
lowest of the lowest Of this earth And
then he said Take my servant to this
earth Because I promised them I created them
from it They shall return to it And
they will be resurrected from it فَتُطْرْحُ رُوحُ
مِنَ السَّمَاءِ Then his soul will be thrown
Hurled down Not escorted Will be hurled down
to his body And will enter his body
And the prophet said وَمَن يُشْرِك بِاللَّهِ فَكَأَنَّ
مَا خَرَّ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ The one who associates
partners with Allah As if he had fallen
from the sky So he literally will be
falling From the sky قال then His soul
will enter his body And he will hear
the footsteps of people Leaving the graveyard As
they are leaving And two angels Again the
same angels Harsh, cruel Stern angels will come
to him And so they will sit him
up And they will say مَنْ رَبُّكِ Who
is your Rabb قال فَيَقُولُ هَا هَا لَا
أَدْرِي He says what what I don't know
And they say that phrase Is a phrase
of confusion You don't know what to answer
You're terrified by what you're seeing You're absolutely
lost You don't know what the answer is
So you're trying to but you can't He
says what what I don't know I don't
know, I don't know what the answer is
What are you trying to ask me He
can't figure it out They say مَا دِينُك
What's your religion, he says I don't know
I don't know what to answer He says
فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي بُعِيثَ فِيكُم
He says what do you say about this
man Who was sent among you قال فَلَا
يَهْتَدِي لِسْمِهِ He doesn't know who they're talking
about He can't figure out who he is
And they didn't give him any hint So
either you know or you don't He says
I don't know who you're talking about فَيُقَالُ
مُحَمَّد He says Muhammad فَيُقَالُ I don't know
I heard people say something And I said
it I don't know I heard people say
something And I said it فَيُقَالُ لَا دَرَيْتَ
وَلَا تَلَوْتُ He says may you not know
May you never know And here When he
said I heard people say something and I
said it That could be a reference To
a kafir Or to a person who Said
that they were Muslim So if it's a
kafir Who is this Muhammad?
He says I don't know I just heard
something And I just took it for granted
Meaning he had received enough Knowledge for him
to be accountable But he didn't believe I
heard people disbelieve so I disbelieved as well
Or a person who Is a hypocrite He
says that he's Muslim But he doesn't really
believe So he said I heard people say
that he's a prophet But I said it
meaning I didn't really believe it I just
said it قَالَ فَيُنَادَ مُنَادٍ مِنْهُ السَّمَاءِ And
كَذَب So a caller from the heavens Will
say indeed he has Rejected the truth Confirmation
that yeah he has failed فَفِرُشُوا لَهُ مِنَ
النَّارِ Furnish him from the fire And open
a door to him to help fire So
he will receive its heat He will receive
That foul smell and foul Wind that comes
from it قَالَ وَيُضَيَّقُ عَلَيْهِ قَبْرُهُ حَتَّى تَخْتَلِفَ
أَضْلَاعُهُ And then his Grave will shrink Until
his ribs will start crushing Each other Opposite
of the believer who Will have an expanded
space It is for this person It will
shrink until his ribcage Will be crushing And
then An ugly man With Ugly clothing The
foulest of smell will come to him And
he said Receive the worst news This is
the day that you were promised So he
will tell him And you have the face
of someone who will bring terrible news May
Allah not give you good news Alright Who
are you?
He says I'm your evil deeds By Allah
azza wa jal And you you to be
very slow In obeying Allah azza wa jal
And very quick in his disobedience May Allah
reward you evil Jazakallahu sharra Thumma yuqayyidu lahu
a'ma Asamma abkam fiyadihi mirzaba Then he will
Receive And we'll imagine here that that's an
angel Or one of Allah's creatures that We
are not told what it is But he
is what?
Blind Deaf And mute And he has in
his hand A sledgehammer Like a big hammer
If he were to hit a mountain With
it, it will turn into sand So he
hits him With it and he does turn
Into sand Then Allah azza wa jal returns
him as he was And then he hits
him with it again And he screams And
wails because of it A scream that everyone
can hear Except the jinn and the ints
They are shielded from that But everything else
Meaning animals will hear it They'll recognize it
It doesn't necessarily mean that it frightens them
Because it doesn't tell us that But they
could hear that scream from him Thumma yuftahu
lahu baabun minannar And then a door will
open To him to hellfire And He will
be told And also a door to heaven
And he will be told This would have
been your place in heaven Had you obeyed
Allah azza wa jal But this is your
place In hellfire that is waiting for you
So he sees His place and he sees
The agony over there And he receives some
of the furnishings Some of the punishment Of
Allah in his grave Then he says, ya
Allah Don't let the day of judgment come
Don't let it happen Because he knows what
is waiting for him Now Just a couple
of hadith Short hadiths I'll share with you
about The punishment in the grave And then
we'll insha Allah Pause for your questions One
is And of course insha Allah When we
come next week There will be other hadiths
that will expand On what we just said
So we'll add a little bit here More
detail here, more detail there Insha Allah To
give you a fuller picture So He said
It is not the fact that I fear
That you will stop burying Yourselves in each
other I would have prayed to Allah azza
wa jal To make you hear the punishment
in the grave So the reason why He
did not ask that Is that if you
were to hear it You'll be so terrified
You will not bury your dead anymore So
he said that's why you do not hear
it And he also said It
has been revealed to me That you will
be tested in your graves A fitna or
a test Like the fitna and the test
of the Imposter Messiah Al Masih al Dajjal
And why is this relevant?
If someone were to ask you What is
the biggest fitna On earth That has either
happened Or is yet to come That would
be what?
The Imposter Messiah The biggest fitna by far
Now you may not see it But in
terms of what is on a scale That's
that greatest fitna Everything else is beneath it
Lesser than it So when he is saying
That you will be testing in the grave
Something similar to that Doesn't mean at the
same level But at least it is similar
to it It tells you about the intensity
of that fitna It's not the easiest of
things So only if Allah azza wa jal
protects you Will you be protected And only
if you have the ammunition to be protected
Will you be protected And he also said
I have not seen a scene at all
Except that the grave is more terrifying Of
course The hereafter is more terrifying than the
grave So he doesn't mean that the grave
Is more terrifying than Hellfire But he means
beside that In this world There is nothing
more terrifying than the grave And the last
hadith Insha Allah that I will share with
you Tonight Allah azza wa jal He says
The grave is the first station Of the
aakhirah He says If you survive it If
you are ok then Then what comes after
is easier If you do not survive it
If that's not ok for you What comes
after is more difficult So if someone were
to tell you What is the first station
Of the hereafter What is it The grave
That's why If someone dies His day of
judgment has started Right If someone dies His
day of judgment has started And in fact
That's what the Prophet Once referred to it
A few people And it's important to understand
this hadith properly Some people would come And
that moment they were in a group And
they had a young boy with them They
say Prophet of Allah azza wa jal When
will the day of judgment come He looked
at that young boy And he said If
he reaches old age Your day of judgment
will come And what did he mean by
that He didn't mean the actual last day
But he meant what When he reaches old
age Most of you then will be what
Dead That's your day of judgment So if
you die That's the first station of the
hereafter So what he said Keep that in
mind when we are talking about All the
punishment in the grave And why there is
punishment in the grave He said if you
pass this Unscathed, unhurt, safe Then this bodes
well For what comes next Then it will
be easier later If you don't Then what
comes next Generally is more difficult So the
day of judgment is more difficult Than the
grave So inshallah we will stop here And
I will share with you inshallah Next week
more details About that About time in the
grave And what happens Because there are several
other things inshallah that take place That we
do not have time inshallah For them today
Let me know inshallah if you have questions
Yeah Alaykum salam They
are what, I'm sorry They are in the
sakarat, yes Right, and we will come inshallah
To that, so he is asking Can I
convey greetings To so and so If someone
is dying Can I tell them If you
see so and so Can you say salam
to them We will inshallah Share with you
hadith That is possible because they do meet
Inshallah Yes Alaykum salam Louder
Louder Ok, so if
a muslim dies And his bad deeds are
not purified Does he have Or will he
be purified or punished in the grave Or
In the actual yom al qiyamah So it
depends on the sin It depends on the
sin So if some sins are still left
Right He may experience And we will talk
about that inshallah He may experience a period
Of punishment Extended period of punishment Continuous punishment
Until he is resurrected All these are possibilities
depending on the sin So And then this
is in addition or in place of What
is going to happen In the next life
Again it depends on the quantity and the
gravity Of the sin inshallah And notice here
right And maybe I will come to this
next week inshallah That in this hadith And
this is something people ask It says the
hadith that we just mentioned It talks about
the believer So that's one end Talks about
the disbeliever and the sinful That's the other
and what about the people in the middle
Right And the people in the middle wallahu
alam Are not mentioned To tell you that
it's a mix It's a mix To what
extent Allah knows best So maybe they receive
a little bit of this and a little
bit of that We are not going to
guess So he just told us about This
is the best which is you are supposed
to aim for this And this is the
worst And that should terrify you The middle
he left it Ambiguous Right or unmentioned And
there is a reason for it One hand
yes Yes So the punishment in
the grave Are for sins that a person
did not repent from We assume that If
that repentance is Complete and sincere The sins
are forgiven Allah is not going to punish
you for them So it's obviously in the
next life and in The grave it is
sins that Have gone Unpaid for Right You
haven't sought Allah's forgiveness You haven't sought people's
forgiveness So there is something still there That
needs purification Yeah Sure
Different Now The confusion arises from the fact
that They call the sky heaven So when
we say The first sky, second sky, third
sky They also refer to it sometimes As
heaven, heaven one, heaven two, heaven three But
this is not Jannah This is not Jannah
So Jannah and again Insha'Allah we are
going to come to that You will find
out that The soul of some people I
will leave it just at that Will be
in Jannah Even before the day of judgment
We'll come to that insha'Allah Ok So
I have a few questions here Let me
see how many we can answer insha'Allah
So based on the hadith You mentioned about
someone not having an excuse After living to
sixty Is it ok to ask Allah not
to live until old age The The request
from the Prophet Is And haram here means
what Senility Losing your mind Ok, when you
reach old age But If Allah azawajal were
to give you extended life With your mind
sharp And you're able to praise Allah Azawajal
and then worship him Then your extended life
Is good for you or bad What is
it?
I'm waiting for your reaction Good or bad
Good right So the Prophet said that Who
is the best believer The one who lives
long And his deeds are good So don't
ask Allah azawajal To terminate your life early
How do you know that that's good for
you So Just ask Allah for the best
You can even ask Allah Ya Allah if
it's good for me Extend my life and
my good deeds And Allah may give it
to you or not And if it's good
May Allah grant it But don't ask Allah
azawajal If you just want to ask Allah
Ask him I seek protection from al haram
With the understanding that the Prophet Sallallahu alayhi
wasallam had Don't ask Allah to terminate your
life It may not be good for you
The fitna of death in this case Would
how we lived our life Determine whether we
pass the fitna of death It's our own
control In a moment So if we What
we mean by the fitna of death It
is the The attack of shaytan And also
the inability To process all the difficulty If
that's what we mean by it And that's
what I meant by it Then obviously How
you live determines Whether you'll be able to
pass this or not So if you lived
a life of iman When you're about to
die And you still possess that iman If
the shaytan wants to attack you You'll repel
that attack with the help of Allah azawajal
If death is difficult You'll be able to
Tolerate, withstand the difficulty of death Just like
you tolerate Any hardship in this life while
you're still alive You lost a loved one
You lost money You're able to be patient
with it And overcome it You'll be able
to do that at that moment of death
So how you live Predicts how you die
And how you die predicts how you'll be
resurrected Right?
So if you want to be able to
survive The fitna of death You have to
survive the fitna of life As you're alive
right now And that's a good point by
the way There's a fitna that's going to
come at the time of death And there's
a fitna at this moment If you succeed
Against the fitna now You'll succeed against the
fitna then By the will of Allah azawajal
But if you fail with this fitna now
The fitna at the time of death is
more difficult Right?
Is the feeling of death similar to trials?
For example, I do not believe myself To
fear death, but when death comes Will it
possible for my mind to change?
Similar to being tested We might believe our
iman to be strong But when the test
comes we might feel different Yes Yes So
they had a couple of scholars Even some
of them Right?
Who were just eagerly waiting for death And
when death approached, they panicked So you cannot
predict How you're going to feel then You
can't say I'm brave, I don't care It's
going to happen, I know Allah will be
next to me But when the moment of
truth arrives And you know that there's nothing
left of this world You're actually leaving Because
you're brave when you say this Because you
don't think you're going to die yet I'm
fine Because you're still healthy I'm fine, you
still have money, you still have your house
So it really hasn't sunk in that you're
going to die But when you know that
you're actually going to die This soul is
leaving this body I have nothing left here
Everything I know and everything that I love
I will leave behind And I don't know
what's going to be there Once I leave,
that's terrifying So the state of mind changes
And add to it, you know, just sickness
If a person is simply sick Definitely changes
What period can the dead hear their family
around them?
Or is it just when people are walking
away from the grave?
We will discuss this insha'Allah For now
I will say it is limited To that
moment or to that period When they leave
the grave And they start receiving questions from
the angels Others will have also different opinions
So insha'Allah wait till I explain What
those different opinions are And what that leads
to And what's the evidence Even if we
have time we can even discuss the evidence
for that But the answer for now It's
limited They're not just going to hear you
whenever If a person is not buried What
trials do they go through?
Exactly the same thing Right?
And I was going to mention this next
week And I will mention this insha'Allah
next week If we're still alive When we
say Punishment in the grave It doesn't mean
that they need to be in the grave
to be punished Does it?
Or otherwise what?
Hey, don't bury me, I'll escape the punishment
It's easy No, punishment in the grave Because
typically people After they die they go away
In the grave But if a person is
burned alive Didn't we just talk about people
being burned alive?
What's the grave there?
Maybe nothing remains Maybe nothing Lost at sea
Eaten by animals It doesn't matter Whatever is
considered part of their body Whatever that may
exist It doesn't matter In the belly of
a lion, in the belly of a whale
In the sea, whatever it may be That's
their grave Right?
Yeah So
they spent the night in the fridge Before
burial, and then?
No, the punishment is When you are buried
The punishment is when you're buried So whatever
is defined as burial That's what happens That's
what takes place Right?
You heard in the hadith, right?
It goes back to his body in the
grave Yeah The
sea is their burial So at the bottom
of the sea That's his grave And that's
when all this happens Right?
If one is not excited To know about
the news of his death Is it a
sign of weak iman?
And how do we approach such person?
News of his death here Means learning the
lessons of death I mean, if a person
is Terrified to hear about death You could
attribute this To show that natural fear And
aversion about death in general I just want
to hear about it It's going to spoil
my life Spoil my joy, spoil this So
it's ignorance It could be weakness of iman
But I would attribute before even Concluding that
To simple ignorance That you're thinking if I
learn about this Somehow it's going to spoil
my fun But you cannot be ready for
it Unless you learn about it How can
you be ready for anything?
Marriage let's say A new job Anything monumental
in your life Having a son, a daughter
How can you be ready for it if
you just don't study a little bit about
it Right?
To be ready for it So this is
the most important next step That you're going
to take The very So how can you
be ready for it And get ready for
it If you don't learn about it So
this is what you tell them You cannot
be ready, you cannot survive it You cannot
succeed unless you learn And learning it does
not mean that you're dying tomorrow But learning
means that You will learn how to live
better To be able to die better And
we mentioned this the first lecture We're learning
this Not just simply to wait for that
thing When it happens so that we are
ready No, learning about death helps you live
better right now So that's what we want
And when that happens You will learn that
it was actually Valuable and beneficial If someone
is in their twenties Was practicing but stopped
practicing as they aged and passed away Did
not fulfill the five pillars of Islam That
is bad death But they believed Or that
was not true belief As long as As
long as they did not Renounce that faith
We still believe That they are still believers
Right?
They still have Islam And if they Die,
we wash the body We pray janazah for
them We bury them in Muslim cemetery And
the rest is up to Allah But if
they've Fallen out of practice They stop praying,
they stop doing this, they stop doing that
As long as And this is our hope
As long as they still believed Then we
hope that eventually They will receive the mercy
of Allah But to your point It is
a bad death A person dies without praying
Without practice, that is a bad death And
we shouldn't sugarcoat it because We're too sensitive
That is a terrible death And it's just
also suffice to know by the way That
some scholars Will consider a person who had
stopped praying Not to be Muslim Right?
According to them, whether you agree or disagree
With that Conclusion But according to that Legal
opinion, and it is a legitimate Legal opinion
That they will say, we will not pray
janazah for that person He's not a Muslim
and he's not to be Buried in the
Muslim cemetery I'm saying this so it would
terrify you That you have Scholars, legal scholars
Debating your Islam This is terrifying So don't
let go of your Salah I don't care
what terrible things you're doing But your Salah
Don't let go of your Salah Salah
One of the times that you do it
in Salah Before the Taslim So he's asking
about They said that the Prophet Would not
conclude his Salah Until he would say this
Other what?
The talk about death This one for instance
That I seek Allah's protection From The attacks
Of Shaytan And also we've mentioned one dua
It was either the second lecture Maybe The
second lecture Allahumma inni as'aluka isha tan
taqiyya wa meeta tan sawiya wa ma raddan
ghayra mukhzeen So I ask you A life
of Taqwa And a A good death And
then a return That is not disgraceful Meaning
a resurrection that is not disgraceful So this
kind of covers all phases of life You
live with Taqwa You die a good death
And then you come back not disgraced So
that one inshallah I see that there's a
hand And I just want to see inshallah
What's the right way to ask for forgiveness?
Reciting istighfar is okay, yes So you say
astaghfirullah, astaghfirullah, astaghfirullah Allahumma khfirli, Allahumma
khfirli There are other forms Allahumma anta khalaqtani
wa ana abduk So there are other forms
But the quickest and the easiest astaghfirullah Any
of these forms Whatever is easy inshallah There
was a hand here Repeat it again louder
please Okay, so if a
person is buried Few days after their death
Is there any disadvantage to the soul?
The soul does not experience disadvantage But we
will inshallah encounter this That it is recommended
Because that's what the Prophet said That he
would rush the burial The burial should be
rushed The soul itself is not in control
For it to experience negativity because of it
But the people who are responsible You should
rush and bury them As soon as possible
Let me take this inshallah Just a couple
here Okay What happens when you die on
a different planet Or outside earth It's the
same thing Right It doesn't have to be
I could say wait until it happens Right
And then we'll answer your question But it's
basically the same thing inshallah Nothing happens Yeah
You have to be loud What happens if
Passed away without doing hajj So hajj is
a pillar He had an excuse Forgiven He
had no excuse Not forgiven for it And
then the family Should try to do hajj
on his behalf Right If they can afford
it So they can collect money Give it
to someone and they can do hajj on
their behalf Before a person is buried Do
they spend their time in jannah or jahannam
Based on their deeds So We've answered this
question partially Before a person dies do they
spend time in jannah or jahannam So we've
answered this question partially Right So they're in
the grave And there's a door or a
passageway Between them and heaven Or between them
and * And they're being either blessed or
punished When you're gonna join us next week
Or the week after you'll understand that there's
a connection Probably the week after Connection between
the person's soul and heaven And that they
will actually be In heaven And we'll tell
you how and in what form inshallah So
they do experience that punishment Okay and I
think I have one more here Is there
a way Is there really any way to
alleviate a portion of the punishment Of the
grave on behalf of a relative Who already
died Absolutely and that is what This is
why you pray janazah for them Right This
is why you pray janazah for them And
basically making dua So when we're gonna come
to What benefits the dead after their death
Everything that we're gonna mention Inshallah Will help
with the punishment in the grave So dua
Dua, sadaqa These are main and most important
ones So yes As it can help you
In the next life Right Because we know
it can help you in the next life
Because this is a gift that you're giving
to them It could help you In the
grave With punishment or with elevation Right Okay
inshallah All the way back When you make
istighfar Is there any sign that shows you
That you have been forgiven If you're talking
about absolute Certain definitive signs Then there is
none You will never know that for sure
But are there some hints Let's say So
if you find that Allah azawajal is moving
you to do A lot of istighfar And
you're feeling comforted After you do it And
you're not returning To that sin Right And
you're increasing In obedience to Allah azawajal Then
expect the best Because that is a sign
That Allah azawajal Is listening to you Now
nothing can be definitive Because Allah azawajal wants
from you to continue To do what you
can And to regret that sin as much
as you can Because it helps you grow
As a person But as far as forgiveness
guaranteed That's very difficult Now for some people
They can see a dream And that dream
right If it's a ru'ya Could tell
them that Allah azawajal had forgiven you That's
a possibility But something in the dunya Nothing
substantial, nothing concrete tells you But if you
find that I've changed because of it This
is a good sign Yes Ah yes No
He's asking is the concept of time The
same for the dead, we say no It's
not, it's not going to pass the same
way They're not going to feel it the
same way As you do And When Allah
azawajal Said in the Quran When they'll be
asked on the day of judgment How long
did you stay They will say We stayed
for a day Or a portion of a
day Even though a person Lived let's say
only 60 years Been buried thousands of years
ago And spent thousands of years in the
grave When he will meet Allah azawajal They
will say part of a day So that
time How they experience it, how it shrinks
How it expands, how it That's very different
That's very different And that's by the way
something that a person Had asked me Which
is He said when we bury our dead
Typically let's say it takes 24 hours So
we bury them the next day But sometimes
some people will keep The dead in the
fridge for a week What happens to their
soul While this is taking place Right, like
where does the soul go And say okay
Think about it differently Let's suppose that we
have the habit Of burying our dead 2
hours after their death That's our habit Then
you hear of other people Who bury the
dead after 24 hours You'll say Where does
the soul go In the 24 hours Why
are you asking about the 24 Because you're
used to the 2 That's what is normal
to you And when 24 is normal to
you You think 7 is abnormal Time doesn't
Actually pass the same way For you as
it passes for them Imagine the soul is
going all the way Up to the heavens
right And coming right down So how long
does this take It could be an instance
It could take a long time And when
it comes down So it doesn't matter how
long you take Until you bury the dead
Although you should bury them as quickly as
possible But it doesn't really matter how long
you take How time passes here is very
unlike How time passes there So there's always
like this adjustment That takes place beyond your
comprehension Okay So I'm assuming inshallah all of
you are exhausted And you simply want to
go home Okay last question What if you're
all genuinely scared To meet Allah and what
if you think You're going to die while
you're young Nothing wrong with that Just wondering
I mean can I like redirect that To
your benefit If you're truly scared to meet
Allah Fearing Allah is good But don't make
that be the only Or the dominant thing
that you have Without any hope And without
any love Then you'll only be running away
from him So Allah should not just simply
terrify you Okay what about hope What about
loving Subhanahu wa ta'ala So if Allah
terrifies you And that leads you to Abandoning
sin great It terrifies you and you lose
hope Then that's wrong So you need to
balance it So see where you are Do
you have a balanced relationship with Allah azza
wa jal Even if you say I have
a lot of fear But still can you
still balance it With hope and love Then
Alhamdulillah you're fine And if you think that
you're going to die young Or it's a
possibility that you're going to die young If
that motivates you to do good things Then
that's a good thought If it immobilizes you
Then it's a bad thought If you just
really become obsessed with death That's a bad
thought But if it pushes you to do
good things Then Alhamdulillah that's good Khair Inshallah
Okay we'll see you next week Same time
Subhanahu wa ta'ala I bear witness that
there is no god but Allah I ask
Allah for forgiveness and I repent to Him
And all praise is due to Allah
