AI: Summary ©
In the name of Allah, we praise Him,
ask for His help and ask for His
forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from
the evils of our souls and the evils
of our deeds.
Whom Allah guides, none can misguide him, and
whom He misguides, none can guide him.
And I bear witness that there is no
god but Allah, alone, with no partner.
And that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
Peace be upon him and his family and
companions.
The best hadith is the Book of Allah,
and the best guidance is the guidance of
Muhammad.
And the worst of things are its innovations,
and every innovation is a creation, and every
creation is a misguidance, and every misguidance is
in the Fire.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him
and his family, said that Allah said, I
will
be where and at what My servant expects
of Me.
I will be to him what he expects
of Me.
And I will be with him when he
mentions Me and remembers Me.
That is whatever you think of Allah, Allah
will fulfill, will be there.
What you expect, what you believe about Him,
subhanahu wa ta'ala, is significant, it matters,
and it is an act of ibadah.
A lot of us, when we think of
ibadah, we think of the external or verbal
acts.
What do we do?
We seldom think of the ibadah of the
heart, ibadah al-qalb.
And the heart has its own distinct ibadah
that is often overlooked.
And it is the basis for all other
aspects of ibadah.
And one of the fundamental aspects or foundations
of the ibadah of the heart is husn
al-dhanni billah.
To believe the best about Allah and expect
the best from Him.
Because this will be the foundation of what
you do and what you say.
And the foundation of what you avoid.
And this ibadah is the difference between those
who believe and those who disbelieve.
Between the faithful and the sinful.
Because those who believe in Allah azza wa
jal, they worship Him because they expect the
best from Him.
And they turn to Him because they believe
His promises.
Whereas those who run away from Allah or
deny Him, they do so because they think
the worst of Him and believe the worst
about Him.
So when Allah azza wa jal speaks about
the disbelievers, He said,
says, We did not create the heavens and
the earth and what is between them aimlessly.
This is the belief, the thinking of the
disbelievers.
This is how they envision Allah or the
Creator.
This is what they expect from Him.
And when Ibrahim a.s. was speaking to
his father and his people,
He says, What?
When he is speaking to his father and
his people, he says, What are you worshipping?
Are you fabricating false gods instead of Allah?
What did you think about Allah?
Meaning, What did you think about Allah to
drive you to worship someone other than Him,
or to create rivals to Him?
And what did you think Allah will do
to you when you meet Him, once you
have done that?
It is only your bad thoughts or expectations
or belief about Allah that drive you to
have partners with Him.
Otherwise, if a person believes that Allah hears
him, sees him, can fulfill all of his
needs, that he does not need anybody else
He will not
ask anybody but Allah.
Only when your belief in Allah is diminished,
only when you believe less about Allah سُبْحَانَهُ
وَ تَعَالَى do you feel the need for
someone beside Him or instead of Him.
Or you think that you can escape His
punishment and then do you do whatever you
want.
No, the believer turns to Allah
جَلَّ in ibadah.
And he expects that Allah
will accept that worship from him.
And he feel grateful whenever he commits an
act that Allah loves.
Coming to the masjid, reading a Quran, donating,
remembering Allah.
He sees Allah's favor that this has happened
because of Allah, not because of me.
So he does not become self-obsessed, self
-centered, full of himself, but turns in gratitude
You guided me to this and this is
a sign of Allah's favor, a sign of
Allah's love, a sign of Allah's acceptance that
Allah عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ loves you and for
that Allah guided you to do this and
otherwise you would not have been able to
do it.
So when you believe that, when you feel
that, you turn greater and more intensely towards
Allah عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ and you expect, not
with certainty, but you hope and expect that
Allah عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ will accept from you.
And you feel warm on the inside and
blessed on the outside that Allah عَزَّ وَ
جَلَّ has guided you.
You expect the best from Him سُبْحَانَهُ وَ
And when we slip, when we make a
mistake, we expect the best from Him سُبْحَانَهُ
We never despair of Allah's mercy.
Allah عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ in the Qur'an,
to those who He described
have wronged themselves excessively.
Never despair of Allah's mercy.
Allah forgives all sins.
And in another hadith that is beautiful, Allah
عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ directly speaks to us.
And He said سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى in that
is speaking to all the children of Adam.
He said سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى O child of
Adam, as long as you invoke me and
ask me, I'll forgive whatever you do and
I do not care.
And if your sins reach the sky, and
you ask me to forgive you, I will
forgive you and I do not care.
Meaning it's nothing to Allah
O child of Adam, if you come with
the earth full of sin, but you come
to me without shirk, I will meet you
with it's full of forgiveness.
So a person never despairs of Allah's mercy,
never says I'm too contaminated, I'm too far
gone, but you expect the best from Allah.
If I repent and my repentance is sincere,
Allah will accept it.
Allah wants you back.
So you never listen to the whispers of
shaitan, but you listen to Allah عزَّ و
When you are in need, you believe that
Allah will fulfill all of your needs.
To the extent that you do not need
anyone but Allah عزَّ و جلَّ.
So you believe the best about Him and
you expect the best from Him.
He says if you experience
a financial hardship, and you can expand this
to include any type of hardship, but here
specifically a financial hardship, and you turn to
people to solve it, it says this hardship
will not end, will not be fulfilled, will
not be alleviated.
But if you receive this financial hardship, and
you turn to Allah and you seek His
assistance, Allah عز و جل will send you
either immediate or delayed relief.
Meaning once you receive this hardship, and the
troubles that we face in this life are
there for this particular reason, to redirect you
towards Allah عز و جل, to convince you
practically that no one can help you except
Him سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى, to have you give up
on humanity, and believe in Allah عز و
جل exclusively.
So Allah wants you to know, if you're
experiencing any pain, any difficulty, any hardship, and
you turn to people, not in terms of
advice, consultation, direction, but relying on them, thinking
that they will solve it for you.
He said it will not be solved.
But if you give this trouble to Allah
عز و جل, and you rely on Him,
and you say, Ya Allah, You take care
of it.
Allah will send you relief sooner or later.
And that is a promise.
And Allah عز و جل said in the
He says, who
has taqwa of Allah عز و جل, Allah
will give him exit from anything that is
troubling him.
And will sustain him and provide for him
from where he did not imagine, did not
expect.
And whoever relies on Allah
Allah is sufficient for him.
So, interrogate the heart.
Do you believe this about Allah عز و
جل?
If I rely on Him, He alone is
enough for me.
I don't need anybody else.
Whatever Allah wants, it's
going to be fulfilled.
Everything has a proportion and an end with
Allah
So, whatever trouble you're going through that seems
to be endless, Allah is saying, it has
an end.
Allah is saying, when He wants to solve
it, it will be solved.
But what is left is the taqwa and
the tawakkul and the expectation of the best
from Allah عز و جل that will bring
that relief.
for His servant?
And they try to frighten you with those
who are beneath Him.
Is Allah عز و جل enough for you?
When there is pain, when there is hardship,
and you say, Ya Allah, do you believe
that He will answer you?
He says, ask Allah while certain
of the answer.
When you're asking, do not hesitate.
Do not think that Allah
will not listen.
As Umar بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه said,
he said, I don't worry about the answer
to my dua.
I worry about making dua, asking Allah عز
و جل, because I'm assured that if I
make that dua, that the answer is coupled.
The answer is there.
Ask me and I will
grant you.
That's a promise.
It's there.
So when you ask Allah
you ask expecting the best from Him that
He will give you the best.
And some people say, I keep asking, but
this particular thing is not happening yet.
You say you have to believe in Allah
عز و جل and whatever He grants or
does not grant is the best for you.
The best may not be the thing that
you're asking for.
It may be the worst thing for you.
Or it's not the best at this particular
moment.
So what you think as you are making
dua, I am asking the most generous, the
most merciful, the all-hearing, the most loving,
the wise, who knows when to give and
how to give it.
So you ask and you expect the best
from Allah.
So if it's given immediately, that's good for
you.
If it's delayed, it is good for you.
If you're denied that thing, it is good
for you.
Because that denial will also spell, will also
lead to greater gifts from Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ
You will never lose with Allah
You'll never lose.
And that firm belief is what distinguishes the
believers from the disbelievers.
Allah is sufficient for us.
And He is the best handler of all
affairs.
He's enough.
He says, Ibrahim said it when they threw
him in that mighty fire.
And Muhammad عليه السلام said it, when they
were threatened with people, they have gathered against
you, so fear them.
So they said that.
And Allah saved them.
And I want you here to imagine both
of these events, where hope is almost gone
or could be extinct.
Ibrahim alone to be thrown in the fire.
Who is enough for you then?
And who will save you then?
And where is your iman?
And do you think there's an exit or
not?
Do you still believe in Allah's promise or
not?
So he said, حَسْبُنَ اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ And
the fire is not a fire anymore.
It doesn't burn.
And when they gathered these forces against Muhammad
عليه السلام and the companions, they'll rout you
out.
They will exterminate you.
And you could feel defenseless, hopeless, weak.
But then you say, Allah is sufficient for
us.
You expect the best from Allah, not the
worst.
You don't surrender to the whispers of shaitan
or your own weakness.
No, Allah will be there for us.
You've done what you're supposed to do.
And then after that Allah will take care
of us.
And they were successful because of it.
You have not thought the best of Allah
عز و جل when you see the criminals
and the aggressors dominant in this world and
you lose hope.
They think that they will escape Allah's punishment.
They will eternally persist in that power.
says, do not think that Allah will break
His promise to His messengers.
Allah عز و جل is mighty.
And His retribution is mighty, is strong.
So it will happen.
Do not think
Allah عز و جل is unaware of what
the aggressors, the wrongdoers are doing.
He's delaying them to a day when the
eyes will be held open, unable to blink.
So when you see it in the world
today, and you see the suffering of the
faithful, the suffering of the weak, and you
think this will continue, you think Allah is
absent, you wonder where is my iman?
It is there where you have to think
the best of Allah عز و جل.
This does not last.
This does not continue.
Allah made a promise, and I believe in
Allah's promise.
It is there where the people of iman
will prosper and rise, and people who doubt
of Allah عز و جل will collapse.
That is the difference between Muhammad
والسلام and those who believed with him, around
him, and those who opposed Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
They think
of Allah عز و جل inappropriately the thinking
and the belief of those who disbelieved.
Ignorance.
The difference is significant.
Allah عز و جل describes the disbelievers.
They will say
on the day of judgment to their skin
after their skin testifies against them.
Why did you testify against us?
Allah made us speak.
Who can make anything speak?
And He created you first.
And you will return to Him.
You did not hide
from the possibility that your eyes and your
ears and your skin to testify against you.
But you thought and you believed that Allah
does not know much of what you're doing.
And it is that belief, is
that thinking about Allah that you had.
It destroyed you.
And you may have become among the losers.
They thought that Allah does not know.
So they did whatever they wanted to do.
And it came to harm them when they
met Allah.
But the believer knows otherwise.
You can't hide from Him subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
So those who have iman, believe the best
and they do the best.
And those who don't have it, believe the
worst and they do the worst.
Expecting the best from
Him subhanahu wa ta'ala does not mean
that a person would abandon the worship of
Allah in the hope of a vast forgiveness
from Him subhanahu wa ta'ala because that's
a misunderstanding.
العمل حسن البصري رحمه الله said that the
believer expects the best from Allah so he
does the best and the sinful expects the
worst of Allah so he does the worst
or thinks the worst of Allah so he
does the worst the believer because he knows
that Allah عز و جل is forgiving is
merciful is just and is loving because he
knows whom Allah عز و جل is consequently
he does the best expecting the best from
Him subhanahu wa ta'ala the believer or
rather the disbeliever or the sinful do not
know Allah عز و جل or misunderstand who
He is so they say to themselves I
will do whatever I want and Allah will
forgive me I will be as evil as
I can be and I will go to
heaven and that is a grave misunderstanding what
Allah عز و جل wants from you because
if you knew Allah to be the just
as well as the merciful you know that
He is not going to treat you if
you are sinful as the righteous you know
that Allah had created a * fire for
those who did not know Allah عز و
جل if you know Allah to be who
He is you will do to please Him
subhanahu wa ta'ala and not be a
foolish procrastinator doing the worst and expecting the
best this does not work in the dunya
and does not work in the akhirah and
as it was said
وعمل لما بعد الموت he says the one
who is wise is the one who judges
himself and does what he can for after
الله الأمان but the incapable the foolish is
the one who does whatever he wants and
then he wishes the best from Allah عز
و جل think to yourself does this work
in the dunya is this how Allah had
said the dunya you just sit and daydream
about being great and so you are great
doesn't work here and doesn't work like that
over there Allah's forgiveness is there but you
have to march towards Allah عز و جل
and in the hadith that we started this
khutbah with where he said subhanahu wa ta
'ala that Allah said and I am with
my servant when he remembers me that remainder
of the hadith is about action it is
if he remembers me in himself I'll remember
him in myself if he remembers me in
a gathering I'll remember him in a gathering
better than them and if he comes closer
to me a hand span I'll come closer
to him a zira, a cubit and if
he walks towards me I'll run towards him
حسن الظن or thinking the best about Allah
will push you to do the best because
you're expecting more and more of it so
when you make dua thinking the best about
Allah is to know that Allah is listening
and Allah is accepting when you are in
hardship and you turn to Allah you know
that Allah is beside you and will take
care of you you have not thought the
best about Allah when you're asked to give
sadaqah and you say no I don't have
enough I'll have less and you don't believe
that Allah will compensate you you have not
thought the best about Allah azza wa jal
when it is time for salah but you
do not pray you have not thought the
best about Allah azza wa jal when you
turn away from Him thinking the best about
Him subhanahu wa ta'ala is doing the
best that you can and knowing that you
are never alone when you do this because
Allah azza wa jal is with you and
there is something extremely beautiful about that statement
I am with Him when He remembers me
because people can leave you people can abandon
you people can disappoint you and they do
not Allah azza wa jal whenever you want
Him to be with you remember Him and
He is with you closer to you than
anybody else and whenever you want His assistance
not only will He be there you do
not need anybody but Him subhanahu wa ta
'ala so chase away bad thoughts about Him
subhanahu wa ta'ala chase away bad expectations
about Him subhanahu wa ta'ala and feel
blessed and honored whenever you do something that
pleases Him and turn to Him in gratitude
alhamdulillah that you made this possible because that
is a favorable sign coming to the masjid
today that's a favorable sign remembering Allah azza
wa jal shedding a tear is a favorable
sign opening a page in the Quran and
reading it that's a favorable sign so appreciate
that from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
do more of it and expect the best
from Him subhanahu wa ta'ala we ask
Allah rabbal alameen arhamal rahimeen to make us
of those who think the best of Him
and think the best of Him and we
ask Allah azza wa jal to fulfill that
belief ya arhamal rahimeen we ask you rabbal
alameen that you grant us the best in
this dunya and in the akhira we ask
you rabbal alameen to make us among the
best of those who worship you internally and
externally make us ya rabbal alameen among those
who truly rely on you exclusively rely on
you who love you more than they love
themselves and who love Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam
more than they love any other human we
ask you rabbal alameen to forgive us all
of our sins and to grant us a
sincere complete repentance from all sin ya arhamal

our sins into good deeds we ask you
rabbal alameen to grant us Jannah and elevate
our rank in it and to save us
