Ali Albarghouthi – Contemporary Acts of Shirk #2 Psychics Law of Attraction & Loving this World
AI: Summary ©
The sh marriage of Islam is a false statement that only one person is the target, and sh marriage is a transactional thing that leads to negative results. The importance of finding the right person to teach others is emphasized, and the need for acceptance of actions and avoiding abandoning the past is emphasized. The importance of love and fear in sh relevance and loss of loved ones is emphasized, and the need for forgiveness and protecting people from evil behavior is emphasized.
AI: Summary ©
In the name of Allah, we praise Him,
ask for His help and ask for His
forgiveness.
And we seek refuge in Allah from the
evil of our souls and the evil of
our deeds.
Whom Allah guides, no one is misguided.
And whom He misguides, no one is a
guide for him.
And I bear witness that there is no
god but Allah, alone, no partner for Him.
And that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
Peace and blessings be upon him and his
family and companions.
In the last khutbah, I've discussed the danger
of shirk.
And its prevalence and persistence.
And we've discussed some examples of its continuation
in our lives.
And the necessity of avoiding it.
And in today's khutbah, I wanna continue with
some of these examples.
So that we become fully aware or as
fully aware as we can of the pitfalls
and the dangers and the continuation of those
acts in our communities and in the world
at large.
One of the actions of shirk is consulting
fortune tellers, divination, anyone who claims to know
the future, or any other means that tells
you and pretends that it could tell you
what the future is.
And Rasulullah a.s. said, مَنْ أَتَ كَاهِنًا
فَصَدَّقَهُ بِمَا يَقُولُ فَقَدْ كَفَرَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ عَلَى
مُحَمَّدٍ He said, who goes to a fortune
teller, in today's they could be psychics and
they are the psychics of today.
If you go to them and you believe
what they say, you have disbelieved in what
had been revealed to Muhammad a.s. Meaning
when you visit them, and you ask them,
and they tell you things about past, present
or future, and you believe what they're saying,
telling you about the future in particular, he
says, they have disbelieved in Allah's revelation.
And even if you do not believe, but
you just simply visit and consult, because you're
curious, you're interested.
He said, He said, a.s., مَنْ أَتَ
عَرَّافًا لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلَاتُ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلًا He
says, if you go to a fortune teller,
then your prayer for the next 40 nights
will not be accepted.
Your salah, though you have to still pray,
because every salah that you miss is at
least a major sin.
But he says, the next 40 days, your
salah will not be accepted.
And this all is to underscore the gravity
of all of this, because the only one
who knows the future is Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
So when you go to them, you become
susceptible, open to the possibility that this person
can tell me what's gonna happen tomorrow.
And they have no access to it.
Now you may ask yourself and say, how
is it that they sometimes could be right?
Sometimes they tell me something or they tell
somebody things, and they are right, how come
they know?
We say, first of all, if it's about
the present or the past, you must understand
that they are not alone, but they communicate
with your qareen, who communicates with their jinn.
Your jinn who's always with you knows all
your secrets.
So when their jinn communicates with your jinn,
he tells them all these things that only
you know, and impresses you because they got
to know it.
How about the future?
They say there are two possibilities.
One, that if you are eager enough, desperate
enough, or open to the whispers of shaitan,
they could present to you open statements, general.
And you will find events in your life
in the future that will correspond, that will
match that general phrase, that general prediction.
And you will fulfill it because you want
to find that fulfillment.
That's how they manipulate a lot of people.
But when they give sometimes a very precise
prediction, and it comes true, understand too that
they do communicate with the jinn.
And Rasulallah ﷺ explained it in ways that
will satisfy every heart.
Where he said, alayhi salatu wasalam, that when
Allah decrees something, the angels of the highest
sky know about it.
And then the next sky below it, and
the next sky below it, until it reaches
the lowest sky, as-sama'u dunya.
Then they talk about it.
And then the jinn, some of them, will
try to eavesdrop, listen, and then transfer that
information quickly to the fortune teller before they
get burned.
And then the fortune teller will mix with
that truth a hundred lies.
So when you will listen to them, they'll
tell you a lot of lies but one
real thing.
But if you were to go to them,
you may lose your entire iman because of
it, or plant in your heart doubts that
are incurable because you brought it to yourself.
And that thing will keep hanging over your
head.
How do I repent from it?
How do I liberate myself from it?
Am I destined?
Do I have to follow their predictions?
Or do I rebel against it?
It'll be very hard to protect yourself from
the psychological and religious harm of this.
If you want to know the future, understand
that no one knows it except Allah azza
wa jal.
And if you are uncertain about something, rather
than consult a horoscope, which is another form
of shirk, or depend on astrology.
Some people think that your sign when you
are born determines your personality, your marital compatibility,
what's gonna happen to you today or in
the future.
And some people just consult it for fun
and we say, shirk is not harmless, it's
not fun.
You will be punished for this.
You have to stay away from it because
if they state something and it happens to
come true, then there will be doubt in
your heart.
Tarot cards, reading the palm, reading tea leaves,
reading ground coffee after you drink it, any
other method, we don't have to be exhaustive
here, that you're gonna use to determine your
luck, your fortune, your future is haram.
It's forbidden.
It's at least it's a major sin, if
it's not indeed shirk in Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
Now, connected to it in terms of influence
is believing in the law of attraction and
manifestation.
And some of you may not know what
this is.
And if not, alhamdulillah, that's good.
Others will know very well what that is.
That is the belief that if you have
positive thoughts, positive belief, then the universe will
reward you and bring you whatever you wanted.
You can do this when you visualize it,
when you manifest it.
I wanna be promoted, I wanna be married,
I wanna be rich, I wanna big house.
So what do you do?
You think about it, you visualize it, and
you keep visualizing these things and they will
happen.
Have positive thoughts and it will happen.
If you have negative thoughts, then you'll have
negative results.
But you will these things into existence.
Your thoughts become something real because you thought
them.
And some of them do affirmations.
I will be rich, I will be successful.
And you keep repeating this until it becomes
true.
Or you become grateful.
The more grateful you are for what the
universe has given you, the more that the
universe will give you.
Now, the influence here is from the New
Age movement, Eastern religions, paganism, native and aboriginal
spiritualities, etc.
Various eclectic philosophies.
Now some may think, this sounds a little
bit like Islam, isn't it?
If you have positive thoughts, if you expect
the best from Allah azza wa jal, Allah
gives you the best.
And if you expect the worst from Allah
azza wa jal, then you're gonna get the
worst.
Isn't that the same thing?
If you are grateful, if you thank Allah,
Allah will give you more.
Isn't this the same as that?
We say it's not the same at all.
Because when you expect the best from Allah,
you know that Allah will give you the
best, whether it is the thing that you
want or something else.
And who is the giver?
Allah azza wa jal, not yourself, not the
universe, not an energy.
If you thank Allah azza wa jal, because
of that ibadah, Allah will give you.
In the law of attraction and anything under
that umbrella.
No, Allah is absent.
There's no Allah.
There's a universe.
There's a flowing energy.
And your job is to match that energy
for your frequency, to match the frequency of
the universe.
And when there's a match between your energy
and the universe, between your frequency and the
universe, then you're gonna get whatever you want
from the universe.
It's you who gets it, Allah is absent.
We say this is shirk.
Because that is not a cause.
And you don't bring anything into existence.
If you want something, ask Allah azza wa
jal.
And the reason why these things are prevalent
is because we globally have banished, removed Allah
azza wa jal from society.
But we still need healing.
We still need development.
We still need reassurance.
So where do we get this?
So they collect it from various sources, and
they bring it to you.
And you say, the universe energy will give
you.
And we do not believe in this flowing
energy.
In fact, it's not even scientific.
Of a positive and negative energy in the
universe.
We don't believe in that.
We believe in Allah azza wa jal.
So some people when they are sick, they
go and seek healing from people who claim
that they will heal you through energy.
Reiki, meditation, chakras.
I will unblock the energy in your body,
and that will heal you.
There's negative energy in you, positive energy in
that stone, in that area.
All these are pagan beliefs.
And the fact that they are popular does
not mean that Muslims are supposed to adopt
them or be impressed by them.
If you want healing, healing is from Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Healing is from the Quran.
Healing is from the sunnah.
And healing of course is from reliable, true
science and medicine when it's confirmed and verified.
Now, if this was not prevalent, if this
is not common, the following ones you will
find to be so.
Seeking the dunya through religious acts.
That is, as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam called it, ash-shirkul khafi, the hidden
shirk.
That a person would pray and beautify their
salah to get people's praise and admiration.
Now ask yourself, how prevalent is this?
And is anyone of us safe from that
whisper, from that feeling, from that impulse that
here I'm gonna do something good, but I'm
not necessarily gonna do it for Allah azzawajal.
I'm gonna give sadaqah.
Why?
To be said that I'm generous.
So people can see how much I've given.
I'm gonna learn the Quran or teach it.
Why?
To be famous, to get money.
And Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, قَالَ
It says, whoever
learns something, the type of knowledge for which
Allah's pleasure is sought, he only learns it
for worldly gain, he will not get to
smell paradise.
Meaning any religious knowledge which by essence you
do it, you learn it, for the sake
of Allah Azza wa Jal, but you're not
learning it for that, you're not teaching it
for that.
Why are you learning it or teaching it?
I want it to be said that I'm
this and that.
Or I want money exclusively, I just want
money, I want fame.
It says, if this is what you are
doing, if you go to Hajj and your
intent is what?
Business and only business.
If you pray and your intent is for
people just to see me, you are committing
shirk in Allah Azza wa Jal and that
action is abolished, is invalid, Allah does not
accept it from you.
Now if you are fighting your impulses, if
you're fighting these whispers, and you hate that
impulse, then you're fine, bi-idhnillah Azza wa
Jal.
When you surrender to it, then we're facing
problems in our aqeedah, problems in our practice,
and problems in our connection to Allah Azza
wa Jal.
Because Allah Azza wa Jal will only accept
an action if it is purely devoted to
Him Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
So desiring the dunya by using religion is
a shirk in Allah Azza wa Jal.
Now you may say to yourself, I'm safe,
I'm not really very religious person, so maybe
I'm safe.
I say, absolutely it's the opposite.
Because when attachment with obsession with the dunya
grows too much, that in itself can become
shirk.
And maybe you're hearing this for the first
time.
But the Prophet Alaihissalam, he said, ta'isa
abdu al-dinari wa al-dirhami wa al
-qatifati wa al-khamilati in u'tiya radiya wa
in lam yu'ta lam yarda.
It says misery to the slave of gold
and silver and fabric that you wear or
fabric that you sit on.
If he's given that, he's happy.
And if he's not, then he's unhappy.
Now all of us love the dunya to
various degrees.
The issue is not that.
The issue is such an intense attachment to
it as the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has
described.
That's the only thing that you think about,
obsessed with, want, you live for it, you
die for it, you're always terrified because you
could lose it.
And that's the thing that makes you happy.
To the degree that, if there's a contradiction
between it and what Allah wants, it always
comes first.
When it goes up to that level of
obsession, you're not prostrating to gold and silver,
but your heart is enslaved by it.
The Prophet Alaihissalam had called that person abd
to gold, abd to silver, abd to clothes.
Clothes today is fashion, bags and shoes.
That's the only thing you worry about.
If it goes up to that level, it
becomes shirk in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And I want you to reflect on the
fact of why many people, either they reject
the truth or they abandon it after knowing
it.
And you'll find that the motivation for that
is loving the dunya, loving themselves, putting that
before Allah azza wa jal.
So if you understand that Allah had warned
us about the dunya so many times, do
not be fooled or deceived by it in
the Quran, that it is the thing that
takes you away from Allah.
It shouldn't then surprise you to know that
when you're greatly attached to it, when it's
dominant in your heart, it becomes what?
Your God, your ilah, you become a slave
to it.
So then you have to question yourself and
say, Am I too attached to this world?
Should I curb that attachment?
Should I stay away from some of these
luxuries so that I can say no to
myself and discipline it so I know that
I'm not a slave to the dunya, but
a slave to Allah azza wa jal.
And only the slaves of Allah azza wa
jal will be able to realize the will
of Allah on the face of this earth,
and will be able to escape punishment in
the next life.
But if dunya enslaves you here, rest assured,
you'll not be able to spread what Allah
azza wa jal wants or loves from you.
I say this, and I ask Allah for
forgiveness for me and you, so ask Him
for forgiveness.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of
the worlds.
All praise is due to Him.
All praise is due to Him.
I pray and send salutations upon His Messenger
Muhammad and upon his family and companions.
Of the common forms, though hidden forms of
shirk, is to rely on the means, the
causes, and to forget about Allah azza wa
jal.
We as Muslims are commanded to utilize the
means to achieve the goals, meaning legitimate halal
means to achieve legitimate halal goals.
We are required to follow it.
So if you are sick, you medicate yourself.
If you need money, you go out and
work, etc.
But while you do all of this, you
must keep in mind that it is not
these things that cure you or provide for
you or protect you.
It's not your alarm that protects you, but
Allah azza wa jal.
And these things are only what means.
Independently on their own they cannot do a
thing, meaning that doctor, who you're so attached
and reliant on, on his own cannot do
a thing to help you.
But if Allah azza wa jal wants it,
if He enables him, if He guides him,
if He facilitates, if that medicine that you
are taking, if Allah guides it, facilitates it,
gives it the power, then it will help
you.
So whenever you are dealing with means, a
lot of times our focus and attention is
exclusive on the thing, on the person.
And you forget about Allah azza wa jal.
And if someone were to remind you, of
course you will say, of course I believe
Allah is the one who has the power.
But in that moment, under the weight of
that problem, you and I forget.
And so when you rely on the means
exclusively, your heart is attached to it.
If not for that doctor, if not for
this medicine, if not for this alarm, if
not for that person, I would be in
ruin.
Forgetting about Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And so a person again needs to pull
back and remember that, yes, this medicine is
a gift from Allah azza wa jal, but
on its own it does nothing.
And no one has power to harm you
and benefit you except Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala.
So do not rely excessively on those means.
Your employer is not the one who gives
you money, but Allah azza wa jal.
He's not the one who has the rizq
for you, but Allah azza wa jal.
So liberate your heart from servitude, from slavery
to anybody else except Allah azza wa jal.
And see anybody else as simply causes that
Allah azza wa jal had put in your
place.
And Allah azza wa jal could eliminate this
cause and bring another.
You're not reliant on one person or one
thing for objectives.
Allah azza wa jal has all the power
to bring the desired results.
And finally, talk about love and fear.
Love and fear.
Now there's great love in our lives, necessary
loves in our lives, but we understand that
love sometimes could be dangerous, haram and destructive.
And we are supposed to love Allah azza
wa jal more than anyone else.
And we're supposed to love Rasulullah a.s
.w. more than any other human.
Actually that's our objective.
And Rasulullah a.s.w. said so, لا
يؤمن أحدكم حتى أكون أحب إليه من والده
وولده والناس أجمعين One of you does not
have iman until I'm more beloved to him
than his parents, his children and all of
humanity.
Means that this is our objective.
And we should live striving towards that goal.
Now if we were to love someone more
than Allah azza wa jal, it's deficiency in
iman.
It's a sin.
It's a sin.
And if we were to love someone more
than the Prophet a.s.w. It's deficiency
in iman.
It's not shirk yet.
But if you were to love someone like
or more than Allah azza wa jal in
ways that are exclusive to Allah.
Meaning that with esteem, with veneration.
Whatever they ask you to do, you do
it.
You seek from them what you should be
seeking only from Allah azza wa jal.
And their pleasure and their satisfaction is more
important to you than Allah azza wa jal.
And you state that and you believe it.
That is the essence of shirk.
And if you were to wonder why do
people worship anyone other than Allah azza wa
jal?
The simple answer, beyond lacking information, but once
they actually are informed, the simple answer is
love.
It's basic love.
Allah azza wa jal says,
It says, among
people are those who take rivals with Allah
azza wa jal.
That they love as they love Allah.
And those who have iman love Allah more.
So Allah points here to the fact that
makes them take these rivals and make them
disbelievers.
Which is what?
They love them as they love Allah azza
wa jal.
Meaning in ways that are exclusive to Allah.
They venerate, they elevate, they respect.
And that could be even a human in
our lives.
Whatever they tell you to do, you will
do regardless what Allah wants.
And you believe that, and you stated, and
you are fine with that.
That is a love that is shirk in
Allah azza wa jal.
And love also could be major or minor.
And that's why someone has to watch out
for it.
And Allah azza wa jal said in another
You've taken
idols.
This is Ibrahim a.s. talking to his
people.
You've taken idols among you.
Why?
Out of love between each other.
Because they didn't wanna lose their place in
society.
Meaning, he's my friend.
And think about it.
How many people today, because of their place
in society, because they don't wanna lose their
social connections, they don't wanna lose their place
of worship.
They know what the truth is but say,
I'm not gonna follow it.
Why?
I don't wanna let go of my past,
my family, my community, the people that I
know.
They love me and I love them.
So they continue to disbelieve in Allah azza
wa jal.
And that's what Ibrahim said about them.
He said, you are continuing to disbelieve because
you love each other.
And you unite upon that worship.
And you don't wanna let go of it.
So love is essential.
So love can be shirk.
And love is the essence of tawheed as
well when you love Allah azza wa jal
more than anyone else.
So that's what we should strive for.
And equally so, fear.
We should fear Allah azza wa jal more
than anyone else.
And when you fear someone more than Allah,
it's deficiency.
It's deficiency in iman.
Because if you know that no one has
the power to benefit you or harm you
except Allah, why would you fear them?
There's natural fear of course of snakes and
ferocious animals and what have you.
That is not something that we can control.
But a human being, and their effect, their
influence, if you were to sit and contemplate
that they have no power, you will liberate
yourself and your heart from their fear.
You're not gonna be afraid of them.
It doesn't matter if it's one or a
hundred or a million.
You're not gonna be afraid of them.
Only Allah azza wa jal can harm you.
So how could they have any power?
When you have that tawheed, you will only
fear Allah azza wa jal inside.
And His fear will be paramount.
Nothing comes close to it.
But when you fear other things more than
Allah azza wa jal, that means that your
iman is deficient and my iman is deficient.
But there is a type of fear that
if a person has it, it becomes shirk.
What?
Excessive fear.
You believe that this person or that thing
or that entity can reach you wherever you
may be.
Can harm you in ways that Allah azza
wa jal can only do.
Can bring you sickness.
Can take away that sickness.
When you're so afraid of them, in that
way it becomes shirk.
Even though you did not prostrate to them.
And that tells you about the importance of
your heart.
I wanna conclude with that.
The importance of your heart and not just
simply what you do with your body.
When you wanna rely, you have to rely
on Allah azza wa jal more than anything
created.
When you wanna fear, you have to fear
Allah more than anything created.
And when you wanna love, purify that love
and give it to Allah azza wa jal.
He is the one who truly deserves it.
Love as many people as you want, but
not more than Allah azza wa jal.
And if you wanna live, live seeking the
pleasure of Allah.
When you wanna rise and pray, give sadaqa,
learn something Islamic or preach something Islamic, don't
do it for the sake of people because
they will not be able to benefit you.
And on the day of judgment, on the
day of judgment, you lived your whole life
thinking that you're a good person, but you're
not giving these things inside to Allah azza
wa jal.
You come with sadaqa, you come with fasting,
you come with sadaqa, you come with hajj,
you meet Allah azza wa jal.
And Allah tells you what?
You did not do it for me.
You did not do it for me, you
did it for people.
Go to them.
Didn't they praise you?
Didn't they clap their hands?
Didn't they magnify you and consider you a
great person?
You've gotten what you wanted.
You did not do it for me.
So when you want to do something right,
ask yourself, is this for Allah?
And if yes, do it.
And if not, pause and say, not until
it is for the sake of Allah.
Lastly, inshaAllah, I remind you as the brother
mentioned of the project that the masjid is
holding.
He informed me, if only a thousand people,
each will give $200.
And if you want to give it, give
it for the sake of Allah azza wa
jal again.
That Allah azza wa jal would enable you
and us to benefit from that project.
May Allah azza wa jal make it so.
Ask Allah rabbal alameen to save us from
all shirk.
Ask Allah rabbal alameen to make us aware
of what he hates and give us the
power to avoid it.
We ask Allah azza wa jal to make
us aware of things that he loves and
give us the power to do it.
We ask him rabbal alameen to teach us
our religion and do not make us among
the ignorant.
We ask him rabbal alameen to purify our
intention and make our actions exclusive for him
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Ya Allah, we ask you that you accept
our deeds, accept our worship, forgive us our
sins and protect us from the whispers of
shaitan.
We ask you rabbal alameen to bless Muslims
wherever they may be.
We ask you rabbal alameen to bring you
relief, quick relief and aid to the people
of Gaza and to the people of Palestine,
ya arham al rahimeen.
Ya Allah, aid them and help them and
clothe them and feed them and defend them
and spoil the plots of their enemies, ya
arham al rahimeen.
Ya Allah, spoil the plots of their enemies,
ya arham al rahimeen.
Ya Allah, disgrace their enemies and anyone who
stands with them, ya arham al rahimeen, ya
azuzu, ya hakeem.
We ask you rabbal alameen to forgive us
all of our sins and to protect us
from all evil, ya arham al rahimeen.
