the world that we are living in today
can be safely labeled as a dishonest world
dishonesty is widespread, rampant in fact it could
even be called the norm when you look
at politics and politicians when you look at
business and corporations how they sell and the
tactics that they use when you look at
entertainment and what it's trying to convey when
you look at people on social media how
they present themselves all this tells us that
most of the world today is involved in
lying and deception and Muslims must understand the
importance of honesty to fight that trend because
we are in a position where we are
influenced by others we are not the influencers
so rather than being swept away by that
tide of dishonesty because everybody else is dishonest
we must understand the value of honesty and
that it is a mother virtue it is
a virtue that leads to every other virtue
and dishonesty and lying is a mother sin
that leads to every other sin and Rasulullah
A.S. confirmed this when he said honesty
leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to heaven
and a person will continue to be honest
until he is an honest person with Allah
written, confirmed as honest with Allah Azzawajal that
is his reputation that is his title with
Allah Azzawajal and he said and a person
lying will lead to fujur, sin and sin
will lead to * fire and a person
will continue to lie until he is written
and confirmed with Allah as a liar so
if you are honest that honesty will take
you to Jannah because if you decide to
be honest in your stayings, in your life
in your actions then every other possible righteousness
is a possibility for you is more likely
for you and if you lie then every
other sin is a possibility and a likelihood
for you honesty is integral in Islam Allah
Azzawajal described himself as being honest
who is more honest than Allah in speech
and he described his revelation as honesty, as
المتقون he said عليه الصلاة والسلام he said
سبحانه وتعالى who is more unjust than the
one who invents a lie about Allah Azzawajal
and rejects the truth reject what he called
صدق honesty when it comes to him and
that is Allah's revelation then he said والذي
جاء بالصدق وصدق به but the one who
brings or brought honesty and believes it they
are the people of taqwa and the people
who bring honesty of صدق the truth are
the prophets of Allah عليه الصلاة والسلام and
anyone else who conveys it so if he
brings honesty and they believe in that honesty
which is Allah's revelation then Allah will be
pleased with them so Allah's revelation is called
صدق because it is the truth and it
guides to the truth and it will generate
and produce truthful people Allah Azzawajal has explained
to us that this life will have tests
that will differentiate between the honest and the
dishonest and you will only survive these tests
if you are honest he said سبحانه وتعالى
says do people think that we will just
let them say that we believe and they
will not be tested indeed we tested those
who came before them so that Allah will
know and differentiate between those who are honest
and the liars honesty by the way is
not just simply something that you say honesty
is a greater attitude honesty is honesty in
intention فنية so that what you do is
for Allah's sake so if your actions portray
something that your intention nullifies, that's not honesty
so you ask yourself whenever you are supposed
to worship Allah am I honest in this
worship meaning externally I look like a person
who is worshipping Allah but internally am I
being honest is this for Allah's sake or
not and if it's not, it's dishonest and
if it's dishonest it is highly unlikely for
that action to be righteous highly unlikely for
that action to save you that is why
Allah said when this test will come it
will differentiate between those who when they believe
and say they believe they're honest about it
they will triumph when the test arrives but
if you are dishonest you will break you
and I will break because we're not strong
enough we're not committed enough we're not devoted
enough so when the test comes, we quit
and that is a mark of dishonesty so
dishonesty is dishonesty in intention but also dishonesty
in commitment to Islam meaning when you say
I believe in this you actually believe it
you're not half-hearted about it and then
you commit yourself to it fully because you
actually believe it and it's honesty في استيواء
السر والعلن where externally and internally you're also
honest you do not simply betray something on
the outside righteousness, Iman but on the inside
the heart is corrupt the least level of
honesty is for your inside to be as
good as your outside and if you're among
the fortunate your inside would be much better
than what people see Allah عز و جل
had praised people in the Quran for their
وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلًا it says among the believers
are those who are honest in the promise
that they made to Allah some of them
died, they were killed and others not but
they have not changed a single thing awaiting
the fulfillment of their promise the sahaba said
this was probably revealed about Anas ibn Nadr
Anas ibn Nadr missed the
battle of Badr with Rasulullah
so he said regretfully he said I missed
the first battle with the Prophet indeed if
I were to witness another Allah would see
what I will do that was his promise
so in the battle of Ahud he was
present and when the Muslims retreated he said
Ya Allah I am innocent of those people
meaning the disbelievers and I seek pardon for
what those people have done meaning the believers
who have fled, the Muslims who have fled
then he head right on to the disbelievers
and Sa'd ibn Mu'adh met him on
his way he said where are you going
he said oh Sa'd I can smell Jannah
closer to me than the mount of Ahud
I can smell meaning physically Jannah closer to
me than the mount of Ahud so Sa'd
said to the Prophet
he said oh Prophet of Allah I could
not match what he did when they brought
his body they found 80 something stabs and
wounds in it swords and spears and arrows
and his body was so mutilated that only
his sister could identify him with his fingers
so they said this was probably revealed about
people like him he was honest من المؤمنين
رجال and among believers are men who when
they promise Allah they were honest and then
Allah said لِيَجْزِيَ اللَّهُ الصَّادِقِينَ بِصِدْقِهِمْ so that
Allah will reward the honest because of their
honesty he said something and he did it
another example of an Arabi a nomad, a
Bedouin he migrated or he accepted Islam first
then he said to Rasulullah
I want to migrate to you he said
yes so in one of those battles Muslims
were fighting and he was in the back
they stopped, there was some reprieve in the
battle so the Prophet
distributed some of the booty of the battle
and he gave a portion to that man
to someone that's his portion, give it to
him so when that Bedouin, that Arabi he
received it he said what is this?
he said this is something that the Prophet
صلى الله عليه وسلم gave to you because
of your participation in the battle so he
takes this and he goes to Muhammad صلى
الله عليه وسلم and he said O Rasulullah
or messenger of Allah I did not follow
you to get something like this I followed
you so that an arrow would fly and
hit me in the neck right here and
I would die this is why I followed
وسلم ان تصدق الله يصدق if you are
honest with Allah Allah will fulfill that for
you if you are honest with Allah Allah
will give that to you then the battle
resumed and an arrow came and hit him
and killed him and they brought him to
اهو he asked, he said is this the
same person that just talked to me about
this they said yes O Prophet of Allah
so they found that an arrow hit him
in the exact same spot that he pointed
he said as for this person he was
honest with Allah and Allah was honest with
him he fulfilled that for him then the
his clothes and that was the shroud, the
kafan for that person then he prayed janazah
for him and they said among the things
that we heard the Prophet
وسلم say the dua that he made for
he said O Allah this is a servant
of yours who migrated for you and he
was martyred and I am a witness for
him if you are honest with Allah عز
وجل then Allah will be honest with you
and fulfill what you want from him سبحانه
وتعالى then you say to yourself and you
ask yourself why is it that we are
not so honest with Allah عز وجل if
you know and this is really important and
I want you to think about it if
you know that this is from Allah if
you know that what Allah chooses is better
for you than your own choice if you
know that what Allah decrees is better for
you than your own choice why would you
not commit yourself to what Allah loves why
do you put yourself and your own desire
ahead of what Allah عز وجل wants if
you are honest and if I'm honest with
Allah عز وجل then we will say I'm
gonna commit myself to it because I know
it is best and if I know it
is best it's absolutely ridiculous for me to
choose anything else and if you commit yourself
to it fully wholeheartedly and what does that
mean you may say you say first I
believe that this is from Allah then you
fully commit yourself to it then you do
everything in your power to follow it and
finally you ask Allah عز وجل for his
help if you fully commit yourself to it
then nothing is impossible
whatever you want Allah عز وجل will grant
you but the setbacks that we suffer and
the cracks that we have in our iman
and our patience they come because of some
element of dishonesty you're not fully convinced you're
not fully committed you didn't really fully try
and because of that you did not get
the results that you want so here is
a reminder for all of us that if
you want something from Allah عز وجل be
honest with Allah in pursuit of that thing
truly believe it truly give it your all
and then witness wonders from Allah سبحانه وتعالى
as he fulfills what you have sacrificed for
what you have committed yourself to أقول قولي
about the prophet عليه الصلاة والسلام ما كان
about the prophet عليه الصلاة والسلام he hated
nothing more than lying and a person would
lie in front of him and the prophet
صلى الله عليه وسلم would still continue to
experience discomfort and be disturbed by that person
until he knows that he had repented from
that particular lie that is the tongue needs
to be clean and if the tongue is
clean with honesty and the heart is clean
with honesty then the rest of the body
the rest of your life will be righteous
because of that commitment honesty is what saves
in the dunya and in the akhirah despite
appearances to the contrary despite the fact that
everybody is lying and they think that they're
getting away with things because they are lying
they think because they're getting richer because they
are lying they think that they're getting ahead
and fooling someone because they are lying but
they are not fooling Allah عز و جل
and they can never fool themselves and the
outcome is never good ultimately and Ka'ab
ibn Malik رضي الله عنه in the battle
of Tabuk when he stayed behind the prophet
صلى الله عليه وسلم and he had no
excuse and the prophet came back and people
who stayed behind were offering excuses and the
hypocrites were lying to Muhammad
وسلم and he would accept from them what
they say and he leaves what is inside
their hearts to Allah عز و جل and
said he said I know that I'm an
eloquent person and I know if I wanted
to lie to the prophet
I could lie but I know that
I cannot escape Allah عز و جل if
I lie so he went and said to
the prophet I had no excuse and the
prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم he said أما
هذا فقد صدق he had spoken honestly he's
honest this one is honest go and he
suffered the consequences of that honesty but it
purified him to the extent that Allah عز
و جل revealed ayahs in the Quran about
him and his other two companions يَا أَيُّهَا
you who have iman have taqwa of Allah
and be with the truthful and Ka'ab
ibn Malik رضي الله عنه he said O
prophet of Allah the thing that saved me
is honesty the thing that saved me is
honesty there was that allure to lie it's
an attraction to lie all the time and
then I'll just escape but he said what
saved me is honesty and part of my
tawbah is that I will never lie from
now onward and I've never intended to lie
from now onward and I do not know
of someone who was blessed because of his
honesty as much as I am from that
time till this time so Allah عز و
O you who have iman
have taqwa of Allah and be among the
honest and here being among the honest doesn't
mean simply and only be around the honest
but to be like them be like them
in their speech in their attitudes in their
intentions in their commitment in what they wanna
do in what they avoid in how they
stay away from the haram despite how attractive
it is how stay away from being rich
and famous because it does involve a lot
of lying because they believe that Allah عز
و جل and what it has is a
lot better than what everybody else has so
if you commit yourself to that truth you
commit yourself to the Qur'an you commit
yourself to the sunnah then you committed yourself
to that truth so you have to be
truthful despite the pressure around you and the
بِكُلِّ مَا سَمِعُ it is enough lying for
someone that he would narrate and convey everything
that he had heard and he said ﷺ
about a person who lies and he spreads
his lie he said that in the barzakh
he saw them being punished with hooks being
put into their mouths and into their nose
and that rips their face back to their
ears and that continues to be done frequently
one after the other until the day of
judgment and when he asked the angel why?
who are they?
this is a person who lies and his
lies reaches the horizon it spreads so before
you speak, before you write make sure that
you are not lying but most importantly you
ask yourself am I honest with Allah عز
و جل if this is the book of
Allah عز و جل you ask yourself is
it the best book?
you say yes you say what in your
life reflects this?
what in your life testifies to this?
you look at the sunnah of Muhammad عليه
الصلاة والسلام you ask yourself is this his
sunnah?
is it the best way?
is it better than any other path including
my own path?
if you say yes what in your life
testifies to this?
if you say Islam is the best if
you say the hereafter is better than the
dunya what in your life testifies to this?
and if you find a lag bridge it
and believe the best about Allah عز و
جل and expect the best from him and
finally I remind you as the brother did
before the khutbah about the project the wudu
project few dollars are left and if simply
each one of us donates 200 dollars or
so today will be done
و جل so first this is a صدق
جارية if you do this we hope and
ask from Allah عز و جل to continue
to reward you as long as people are
benefiting and using that facility second even if
you cannot do 200 whatever you can donate
and most importantly make dua for it if
you cannot be physically part of that effort
at least religiously be part of that effort
who knows one of your dua would be
accepted and Allah عز و جل could fulfill
the rest of that amount so ask Allah
أرحم الراحمين رب العالمين to make us among
the honest in the dunya and in the
akhirah to resurrect us with the honest in
the akhirah we ask him رب العالمين to
make us honest in tongue honest in intention
honest in effort to make us honest in
our business to make us honest with our
families to make us honest internally and externally
we ask him رب العالمين to prevent us
from lies and dishonesty we ask him رب
العالمين to help us fully commit ourselves to
his religion to his book and to the
sunnah of his prophet عليه الصلاة والسلام we
ask him رب العالمين to cleanse and purify
our hearts to extract from them the love
of the dunya and replace it with the
love of the akhirah to take out from
it the love of sin and put instead
his love and the love of his prophet
عليه الصلاة والسلام and the love of the
righteous and the love of righteousness we ask
him رب العالمين to forgive us all of
our sins the major ones and the minor
ones the ones that we still know and
struggle with and the ones that we have
forgotten about we ask him رب العالمين to
grant us a sincere repentance from all sin
we ask him رب العالمين to make the
path of righteousness easy for us and the
path of unrighteousness very difficult for us we
ask him رب العالمين to make us of
those who help others or help Muslims to
bless us bless our families bless our parents
and spouses and children and guide them to
the truth that Allah عز و جل loves
we ask him رب العالمين to give us
a good ending and a good resurrection and
to make الفردوس الأعلى our home بابن الله
