It was embarrassing for me to come to

the visiting hall, seeing my mother being walked

up, being searched.

You know how humiliating it is and embarrassing

it is?

Your mother that's wearing a hijab, being searched

to see if she's got any drugs on

her, and she's thoroughly searched, you know, looking

underneath her hijab or anything.

That broke me.

I said, mum, as much as I love

you, as much as I care for you,

as much as you want to see your

son behind prison, I don't want to see

you no more.

Because that's not fair.

On our mothers that carried us for nine

months, for her to come back to prison,

it's not fair for her to come there,

have two hours of your time, and then

on her way back home, all she's doing

is crying because she can't put her son

to bed anymore.

It's not fair on our mothers.
