anna Muhammadan Rasoolullah, out of fear of the
man actually taking his life.
The plots were in place and they were
trying to kill him, alayhi salatu wa salam,
actively.
So he could not risk being seen publicly
in a way or in a place or
at a time where there was not enough
witnesses for Quraish to be scared of actually
harming him.
So they agreed to meet in the middle
of the night and the last night of
Mina, the last night of Hajj.
So the way it goes, you have the
day of Arafah, the day of Nahar, and
then you have three days called Ayyam al
-Tashriq.
The Arabs still knew this before Islam, by
the way, they still followed those days.
So the final day of Mina, the 13th
day, right after Maghrib, people are there, there's
no reason for you to be there anymore,
everyone leaves.
So he would meet with them at midnight
of that day because everyone's going to be
packing up all night and packing up all
morning, so it would be very chaotic.
So he met with them in the middle
of the night, alayhi salatu wa salam, and
during that meeting, he had Bayat al-Aqaba
with him.
He had the pledge.
He required them to give their word and
their covenants on five points.
These five points I'm going to talk to
you about over the next five weeks.
Every week, we're going to talk about a
point of them.
This Bay'ah, this pledge, is what allowed
the Prophet alayhi salatu wa salam to go
to them.
I want you to understand the symbolism that
exists within this story.
When you accept Islam, what you're actually doing
is you are drawing an agreement between you
and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
This is an agreement.
And you're entering a pledge with Muhammad salallahu
alayhi wa sallam ajma'een.
And until you enter that pledge, and you
sign your name, and you accept the five
articles of this pledge, he does not come
to you alayhi salatu wa salam.
Symbolically, I hope you understand what I mean.
He's not going to come to us, this
is Bari alayhi salatu wa salam.
But the barakah of his legacy, the actual
benefit of his teachings, will not enter your
life until you offer this pledge as they
did back then.
Until you give your word, as they did
to him alayhi salatu wa salam.
On these five points, Islam will continue to
be foreign to you.
And he alayhi salatu wa salam, with who
he is, with the barakah of who he
was, and what he taught, and how he
lived, will not enter your life.
He will not come to you until you
give your pledge, just like the people of
Yathrib.
Accepted Islam with Mus'ab.
But they were not to receive Muhammad sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam in their homes, until they
offered their word, and they offered their pledge.
And once they did, he came to them
alayhi salatu wa salam, and turned Yathrib, a
disease-ridden city, torn by war, filled with
political problems, filled with oppression and hunger.
A city that had no weight in the
entirety of Arabia, was not worth even being
talked about, or pointed out on a map,
became al-Madinah al-Munawwara.
It became the center of the Islamic Khilafah
for years.
It became, till this day, one of the
most important cities on the planet, because he
came to them alayhi salatu wa salam.
And he stayed with them alayhi salatu wa
salam, and he was buried amongst them alayhi
salatu wa salam.
And if you understand the symbolism of what
I'm trying to explain to you, then you
will get my point.
If you understand that they only received him
once they gave this pledge.
And if you want him alayhi salatu wa
salam in your life, truly and sincerely you
want him in your life alayhi salatu wa
salam, then you have to offer this pledge.
Why a pledge?
Because that's how Islam works.
This is an agreement.
When you say la ilaha illallah, you're offering
your word.
You're offering your word.
This is not, you don't walk in and
out of this, no.
This is an agreement, this is a transaction
that's occurring.
If you're going to enter, you offer your
word, and the word of the one you
are doing this pledge with is offered to
you.
It's a very, the Qur'an talks about
bay'at al-ridwan.
The Qur'an talks about the bay'at
that occurred under the tree on the day
of Hudaybiyyah.
And all of them, the word is the
same, so the concept is the same.
How is it worded in the Qur'an?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in Surah
al-Fatihah, Inna allatheena yubayi'oonaka innama yubayi
'oonallaha Yadullahi fawqa aydeehim Faman nakatha fa innama
yankuthu ala nafsih Waman awfa bima ahada alayhullaha
Fasa yu'teehi ajaran azeem He said, indeed the
ones who are offering their pledge to you,
in essence, in essence what they are doing
is that they are offering their pledge to
Allah.
They are offering their pledge, they are offering
their covenants to Allah himself.
The hand of Allah is above all of
their hands.
You see, when they came and they put
their hand in the hand of the Prophet
alayhi salatu wa salam and they put their
hands on top of each other saying, We
commit, we are with you.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the
Qur'an, His hand, the hand of God
is above all of your hands.
It is a part of this covenant just
like you are, just like you are offering
your pledge with Muhammad, you are offering it
with me jalla jalalullah.
So the one who turns his back on
this and betrays it, indeed, they only betray
themselves.
And the one who sees it through in
the wording in the Qur'an, in the
Qiraat al-Hafs, Waman awfa bima ahada And
the one who sees through that which they
offered their covenant regarding, alayhullaha And usually in
Arabic, alayhi, it's not alayhu.
But because of the nature of this verse,
because of the significance of what happened, because
of the importance of the bay'ah, the
Arabic, the recitation of it is you put
a dhamma on the ha, instead of saying
alayhi, you are going to say alayhu.
So the name of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is going to be recited with its
full weight.
You see when you say, there is the
name of Allah, and you can say lillah.
So it's less heavy.
For this verse specifically, where it's talking about
those who are offering their covenant and their
pledge, it was recited alayhullaha.
To keep the name of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala recited with its full weight.
So that we understand the importance of what
they did, and what that meant for them
to stand there and to offer their pledge.
This is what Islam is about.
Islam is a pledge that you offer to
the Prophet alayhi salatu was salam through him,
through the Prophet alayhi salatu was salam to
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that you will
stand your ground for the entirety of your
life in the form that will.
Please Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Now you
have to know what you get in return.
And I do this now because this is
the introductory khutbah.
Because when the Ansar stood in front of
the Prophet alayhi salatu was salam and listened
to him as he counted 1, 2, 3,
4, 5, I need these 5 things from
you.
You pledge to these 5 things.
And they said okay.
And then they asked at the end after
he explained what he wanted.
The requirements to become an actual Muslim.
To enter into Islam and be a part
of this ummah, and be a part of
this struggle.
They said, وَمَا لَنَا إِن فَعَلْنَا What do
we get in return for this?
فَقَالَ صَلَاٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَكُمُ الْجَنَّةَ You get
Jannah.
Period.
End of sentence.
End of paragraph.
In every book of surah there is not
one additional word that he offered in elaboration
on this.
Not one.
He did not say anything else.
He didn't even explain.
He didn't describe it.
He didn't add nothing.
He just said Al-Jannah.
End.
And they had to be okay with that.
And that is what you get in return.
This is the deal.
Take it or leave it.
But this is the deal.
There is no other deal.
Islam doesn't have anything else.
And it's very simple.
It's clear cut.
There is no complexity to it.
It's a deal.
You pledge these five things for your life
and you get Jannah for it.
You don't want it?
Walk away.
It's up to you.
I ask Allah that no one walks away.
That you all find the beauty of your
life and the commitment in your heart to
take this on.
Because there is nothing more beautiful than it.
But this is the deal.
For better or for worse, this is the
deal.
It was called Baya' because of that.
It's a pledge.
You had to come and pledge.
All the Sahaba did this.
The Sahaba in Mecca did this with him.
During their time, they all Baya' Rasool Allah.
It wasn't political.
In the most part, it was to live
and die for this cause.
And they offered it.
And the people who came from Medina hadn't
done it yet.
Those who came from Yathrim, so he required
the full deal.
Here is what it is that I need.
Here are the five things.
You want me to come to you?
Then here are the five things you have
to do.
And they offered their pledge.
They offered it.
And we do too.
If you understand this story, you and I
owe that pledge.
We owe this.
If you're insha'Allah you are hoping for
Jannah and your goal is I want to
make it the Jannah myself and those whom
I love then you have to offer this
pledge.
You have to understand it so you can
honor it.
Once you offer a covenant, you must see
it through.
And once you give your word, don't go
back on it.
After you've been asked clearly to commit to
it.
You've made Allah your witness on it and
your supporter upon it.
Don't do that.
That's not cool.
May Allah forgive you.
May Allah forgive you.
My brothers and sisters in this new series
in which I talk about the pledge of
Al-Aqaba.
Just as the Ansar pledged to our beloved
Prophet Muhammad on the day of Al-Aqaba
I don't think that Muslims today or in
any time I don't think they have a
choice to pledge to the Prophet As they
pledged, we pledge.
And as they were promised in Jannah that
promise will be connected to us.
But we must pledge as they pledged.
And they didn't have the chance to enter
the city of the Prophet or stay there
until they pledged.
So if you and I want the Prophet
to enter your life to enter your heart
to be a part of your being your
life, your soul your family if you want
him to enter and enter your home you
must pledge as they pledged or else he
won't come to you.
And I'm not talking here about dreams or
anything else I'm talking about the reality.
This guidance that the Prophet left for us,
this Muhammadan way, this great divine way, these
morals, these values this Jihad that lasted for
years if you wanted him to enter your
heart and your heart and be a part
of this Ummah you must pledge as they
pledged.
Or else, my brother, let's go or else
let's go like this.
It was said on the day of the
Bai'at al-Aqaba that As'ad ibn
Zurarah stood before the Prophet and said, slowly,
O people of Yathrib slowly, O people of
Yathrib do you know what you are getting
into?
Do you know what you were born into?
If you pledge to this man, you have
accepted the Arabs' enmity Al
-Ansar didn't lose their test Al-Ansar gave
their wealth and gave their homes and gave
their lives and their children and disappeared into
the abysses of history and none of them
was known as a leader or a guardian
or a successor and none of them was
known as a person who took a position
or took money and they only offered their
lives completely to Allah and the reward was
Paradise for them This is why the Prophet
said If it wasn't for emigration, I would
have been a woman from Al-Ansar If
all the people went to a valley and
Al-Ansar went to a tribe, I would
have gone to the tribe of Al-Ansar
O Allah, have mercy on the Al-Ansar
and the sons of Al-Ansar and the
sons of the sons of Al-Ansar and
so on until seven and so on until
seven because they died when they said on
the Day of Resurrection they said, we are
the ones who used to love Bait Al
-Aqaba Al-Ansar used to say All people
love Badr and Al-Aqaba is greater than
Badr and Al-Ansar is greater than Badr
and they loved us and they used to
say We are the ones who pledged allegiance
to Muhammad on Jihad We are the ones
who pledged allegiance to guidance We are the
supplicants of Allah the heroes of sacrifice and
the Prophet used to answer them O Allah,
there is no life but the life of
the hereafter so forgive the Al-Ansar and
the emigrants is that the story of Islam
is that the story of Islam has not
really changed that much It's pretty much the
same story He came and he explained and
he asked you for your pledge He asked
for you to offer your life and in
return you got Jannah He explained the whole
thing It's your choice You are not coerced
to do anything You don't have to say
yes But if you do say yes, then
you have to see through your part of
the deal If you want him to see
through his part of the deal And believe
me, his part of the deal is way
more expensive and way more valuable than mine
or yours But it's the same story As
they pledged their lives and they pledged themselves
for him We have to do the same
thing We are required to behave and think
in the same manner It's called bay' You're
selling The Prophet says this Every human being
every morning leaves his house and then he
sells himself It's a very heavy word but
it's symbolic You're going to commit yourself to
something So either you commit it to something
that frees it from the chains of this
life and the chains of the hellfire or
you send it deeper down He says This
is what Allah says Indeed Allah has
bought from the believers their lives and their
possessions, everything that is you Your life and
everything you have And they get returned to
Jannah Almost word for word Almost word for
word And that's why I want to talk
to you about these five articles What was
it that they offered their pledges on?
What was it that they offered?
There's a pledge between you and I There's
a pledge between you and I I pledge
that when I get up here I don't
lie to you That I don't make things
up That I don't cheat you That I
don't bring my own agenda into the talk
That I don't try to change realities to
try and get you to do something that's
going to serve me personally That's a pledge
And that I will do this every time
I am required to That's the pledge.
What is yours?
What is yours?
That's my pledge.
Every time there's a Jummah I show up
I show up, I pledge to educate to
take care of the youth That's my pledge.
What is yours?
Or is it just me?
Why am I the only one who has
to do this?
Everyone owes this Owe their pledge and then
figure out what role you play Figure out
your role Because if you don't figure out
your role Then you have a problem Then
you're basically floating around in the sand Forgive
me for this bad phrase But those who
don't offer their pledge and see it through
It's dead weight We're carrying dead weight We
have too many people who don't offer their
pledges And then don't see it through when
they do What are we going to do
with them?
They're not going to offer it, they're not
going to help They're not going to actually
push it forward But they're going to require
to be served and helped and taken care
of That's not fair They had a name,
they had a name back then They had
a name, they have a name in the
Quran It's a really ugly name I'm not
going to share it with you because you
know what I mean It's not a nice
name But everyone offered themselves, everyone offered their
pledges Saw it through to the best of
their ability Within the capacity of their limitations
No one's asking you to do more than
what you have the ability to do But
we all owe it I hope that was
of benefit to you وَعَلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنَا
