Adnan Rajeh – The Pledge of Al-Aqabah – The Fourth Article- Prioritizing the Message
AI: Summary ©
The importance of Islam and its umbrella of life is emphasized, along with the need for people to be mindful of their actions and not just for their own sake. The culture includes a belief that people are not going to allow fear to stop them from doing what they know they can do, and they will continue to stand in their beliefs. The importance of forgiveness and embracing one's own success is emphasized, along with the need for acceptance and love in one's life. The speaker emphasizes the need for everyone to stick to what is in their book and not to find joy in their life.

Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest,
Allah is the Greatest.
I bear witness that there is no god
but Allah, I bear witness that there is
no god but Allah, I bear
witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,
I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger
of Allah, Come
to Prayer, Come
to Prayer, Come to
success, Come
to success, Allah
is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, There
is none worthy of worship except Allah.
All praise is due to Allah, then all
praise is due to Allah.
All praise is due to Allah, we praise
Him, we seek His help, we seek His
guidance, we seek His forgiveness and we seek
His support.
And we seek refuge in Allah from the
evils of our souls and from the evils
of our deeds.
Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide him, and
whosoever He misguides, none can find a guardian
for him.
And I bear witness that there is no
god but Allah, there is no partner for
Him, there is no god but Allah, He
has not taken a wife or a son,
He has not taken a wife or a
son, And I bear witness that our Prophet
and our Greatest, Muhammad is the servant of
Allah and His Messenger, and pure of his
creation and His Beloved.
Allahumma salli wa sallim wa barik ala nabiyyina
muhammad wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'in
yaqulu jalla jalaluhu fi muhkam it-tanzeel ya
ayyuha allatheena aamanu man yartadda minkum an deenihi
ala almu'mineena a'izzatin ala alkaafireena yujahiduna fee
sabeelillahi wala yakhafuna laumata la'im thalika fadlullahi
yuteehi man yashaa Within the series of the
pledge of al-aqaba, talking about the bay
'ah that the Prophet had with the Ansar,
on that blessed night, the last night of
hajj of the 20th year of his bi
'atha.
He would meet with those who came from
Medina, from Yathrib, with their group for hajj.
72 of them, men and women.
They would come and meet at that last
night of ayam at-tashreeq, of the days
of hajj.
And they would meet at jamrat al-aqaba.
If you go perform hajj, it's where you
will throw your jamarat, one of the three
that you throw your jamarat out, the smallest
one.
They would meet there with the Prophet, alayhi
salatu wasalam, in an evening that all those
who attended it continued to carry it in
their minds and their hearts to the day
that they died, seeing it as the most
precious moment of the entirety of their lives.
When they stood in front of the Prophet,
alayhi salatu wasalam, and offered him their pledge.
When he asked them, alayhi salatu wasalam, for
five things, in order for him to move
and leave Mecca and come to them, alayhi
salatu wasalam, and make Yathrib the city that
it is today.
Make it the city that people from all
around the globe would do anything to be
able to go and visit.
The city that when you enter, you come
back and you say, I found nothing but
peace, I found calmness, I found beauty, I
didn't want to leave those who would do
anything to live there.
He made it that, alayhi salatu wasalam.
It wasn't that before he went there.
He made it that, alayhi salatu wasalam.
His presence, the fact that he went there,
alayhi salatu wasalam, and he only went there
when the people there offered him that pledge.
And I give this analogy.
That if you would like the Prophet, alayhi
salatu wasalam, to come into your life, and
to do for you what he did for
Yathrib, because Yathrib is a name that I
use it on the minbar specifically, because you
don't care for the name.
It doesn't mean much for you.
You don't even know what that is anymore.
Because today is al-Madin al-Munawwara, alayhi
salatu wasalam.
Today is Taybah.
That's what it's known as.
But before that, it was just a town
called Yathrib.
It was torn from the inside.
It was torn from the inside.
The people who lived there didn't like each
other.
It was filled with disease and poverty and
injustice and hatred and racism.
It was a city that lacked the basic
resources for life.
It was a city that had no future.
Which is why alayhi salatu wasalam did not
go to the people of Yathrib and offer
himself during those years of hajj.
When you study the year of hajj, the
10th year, and you look at the different
tribes he went and spoke to, the 26
attempts that we have on record.
He has way more than that.
But the 26 I have on record, he
didn't speak to Yathrib and them.
Why?
Because there was no point.
He didn't want to go there.
Why go there?
He knows the landscape.
He knows the environment.
He knows the group of people.
He knows the heterogeneity of the actual population.
He knows the wars.
He knows.
He knows.
Why would he go?
It's not worth it.
He wants a place that has a better
setup for him.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala chose Yathrib
for him.
So that he could go and he could
fix it alayhi salatu wasalam.
Because he went to a place.
Imagine this.
He went to a place that was already
functioning.
It's already functioning.
He came there alayhi salatu wasalam.
He benefited from their functionality and he got
the job done.
No.
He was going to go to a place
that was not functioning.
That wasn't working.
That had no future.
That was only getting worse.
So that you could see the effect of
Muhammad alayhi salatu wasalam on a group of
people.
On a town.
On a place.
And if he can do that alayhi salatu
wasalam to a town and to a city.
Then imagine what he could do to your
heart alayhi salatu wasalam.
And to your life.
Accept him as they did.
Accept him alayhi salatu wasalam as the Ansar
did.
And he will do for you what he
did for the Ansar.
But that requires this pledge.
It requires offering him what they did.
Those are
three things we talked about.
Number four.
For you to dedicate yourselves for Allah.
And fear no one but Him.
لومة لائم اللوم is when you're being blamed.
اللائم is the one who distributes blame.
You're
not going to allow the fear of someone
blaming you.
Or pointing a finger at you.
Or singling you out.
Or removing you.
Or isolating you.
You're not going to let the fear of
that stop you from doing what you know
is correct.
It's not going to make you compromise or
give up.
Or lessen the priority of this Deen.
You will continue to stand steadfast on your
beliefs.
And you will prioritize this message.
Even though many people will blame you for
doing so.
That's what this verse that was revealed years
later in Surah Al-Ma'idah says.
Oh those who believe.
Any of you
who decide to turn their back upon their
faith.
Turn their back.
Commit apostasy.
Or even less than that.
Most scholars don't see this verse talking about
apostasy specifically.
But even something less than that.
The ارتداد is when you move backwards.
Or you turn your back.
It's used legally in the Islamic jurisprudence to
talk about apostasy when you leave Islam altogether.
But any form of lack of commitment could
be called that as well.
Which is what this verse of Allahu A
'lam is pointing out.
Those who lessen
their commitment.
Those who distance themselves a bit.
Those who take Islam and take the pleasing
of Allah SWT from the priority list and
put it somewhere different.
Drop it down a couple of spots.
Derank it.
Then Allah SWT promises
that He will bring a substitute group of
people.
They will love Him and He
will love them back.
They will be humble with
their brethren.
They will be brave and
of integrity against their enemy.
And they will strive for the sake of
Allah.
And they will not fear.
They will not fear isolation.
And they will not fear those who blame
them.
They won't fear the haters or the blamers.
They won't fear any of them.
Because they know what their priorities are.
Islam is the umbrella for your life.
That everything else has to fall under.
Islam is not a category.
Within your life.
It's not a category.
Amongst other categories.
It's not a compartment amongst other compartments.
That you offer some attention.
That you give a certain degree of hours
a day.
Or a week or a month.
No.
Islam is the umbrella.
Everything falls under it.
Everything falls under this deen.
Everything.
Every moment of your life.
Every thought, every decision, every choice.
Oh those who.
This is the first ayah in Surah Al
-Hujurat.
Oh those who believe.
Don't put anything before Allah and His Prophet.
Don't take anything.
At all.
Anything.
Whatever it is.
Don't put anything above or before or ahead
of pleasing Allah and following His Prophet ﷺ.
And be aware.
And be mindful of Allah.
Indeed Allah hears all
and He sees all and He knows all.
It doesn't work.
Why are we alive?
What are we here to do?
Where did we come from?
How did I suddenly exist?
Why do I have this consciousness?
Why do I have this ability to think
about things in a very deep manner?
Why do I have the ability to make
all these complex choices?
Why do I know the difference between something
that is correct, something that is good, something
that is helpful, something that is righteous, and
something that isn't.
Why do I innately know this?
I don't see any other creature on the
planet with that interest at all.
I don't see any other creature on the
planet running into an ethical dilemma.
None of them are, they don't have their
courts, and they don't sit there depressed, wondering
whether they should have made a different choice
at some point in their past.
None of them do.
But somehow I do.
Where did that come from?
And why am I like this?
Who put me here?
And where am I going with all of
this?
And what is the end going to look
like?
This is the question that you have to
ask.
There is no, there's only one answer to
this.
And once you have that answer, then how
is it that you're going, how do you
go to God and explain your life?
Have you ever thought, I don't know how
I'm going to explain my life to Him.
I don't know how I'm going to justify
my choices.
I don't know how I'm going to stand
in front of Allah and try to explain
why I did what I did, and why
I made these choices, why I lived that
way.
I don't know how to make that argument
with Him, subhanahu wa ta'ala.
So all I can depend upon is that
maybe He shows me some mercy and some
forgiveness because I have no way to make
this argument.
He gave me everything.
For me not to give Him my all
is, makes no sense at all.
For me not to give my all to
Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, that's what He's
looking for.
He's not looking for your part-time commitment.
He doesn't want that.
Islam is not a gym membership, you don't
show up when you have time.
Islam is what you're here for.
There's no such thing as I didn't have
time.
What did you have time for then?
I'm interested to see what bumps this, like
what trumps your deen, explain to me.
Make the argument.
If you have a good one, tell me.
I would love to follow in your footsteps
if you have a better argument.
Convince me, please do.
Convince me how this is something that you
can afford to say, I didn't have enough
time.
I was too busy.
Explain to me how that works.
Make it logical.
So that I can do the same because
God knows it's tiring.
It is.
The word jihad is there for a reason.
It's to strive.
You're going to strive.
You're walking uphill.
The winds are against you.
The tide is against you.
The world does not really appreciate what you're
doing.
So it's not easy.
It's not a walk in the park.
It's no picnic.
So if you have a better argument to
offer it otherwise, how are you going to
justify this?
O those who believe,
do you want me to show you a
transaction, a transaction, a business transaction that will
save you from a difficult and painful punishment?
You accept Allah.
You internalize the understanding and acknowledgement of لا
And then you strive for his sake with
your life and with your wealth, all that
you are.
All that you are is what's on the
inside and what you own on the outside.
That's all you are.
It's all I am.
Who I am on the inside and what
I own on the outside.
I take both and I strive for the
sake of Allah with them.
And anything less than that, anything less than
that doesn't work.
It doesn't work.
It doesn't fulfill the purpose.
That's what he was asking them عليه الصلاة
I need your full commitment here.
I need you to prioritize this message.
We cannot compromise.
We can't compromise anything.
Have you read the 6th and 7th year
and 8th year of his prophecy عليه الصلاة
والسلام when they tried to negotiate with him?
They tried to get him to come.
They want you to
compromise just a little bit so they can
compromise because they don't stand for anything anyways.
They don't stand for anything anyways.
They just want you to compromise because if
they get you to compromise, then it takes
away this halo that surrounds your faith and
surrounds your commitment.
It takes away the authenticity, the originality, the
divineness, the divinity of your message.
Just compromise something.
But he didn't.
He was asked
At one point, they had made so many
offers to him that they came to him.
This hadith is in Muslim and you'll find
a narration of it in Ibn Majah as
well, where they came to him with the
final offer and they said, Fine, يا محمد
صلى الله عليه وسلم, fine, we will do
what you want.
We will all convert.
It is not appropriate, however, for myself and
the people who are like me, these are
the nobles speaking, the leaders of Quraysh and
the leaders of the Arab, to sit in
the same place where Bilal and Suhaib and
Ammar and these people sit.
We can't do that.
You need to give us our own time.
We are the Ashraf and they are the
Abid.
We are the noble people.
We are the leaders and they are people
who don't even have their freedom.
This is not fair.
So he thought about it for a moment
Do I make two times?
Before he could even answer.
Like before he was able to answer them
Jibreel was there.
And do not ever turn away
those who call upon my name, ever.
You are not responsible for their previous mistakes
and they are not responsible for yours, but
you kick them out or you remove them,
you ask them to sit behind because someone
else wants to sit up front, then you
are an oppressor.
And we have filled the hearts of these
leaders that you see with that hatred.
So they walk around saying, how is it
that God would lead this person who is
beneath me and didn't lead me?
Does Allah not know who is worthy of
his gratitude?
Does Allah not know who is worthy of
his blessing?
And he said, no, and they looked at
each other and said, we didn't ask for
anything, just, no.
You come to Islam and accept it as
it is.
You take it in totality.
You take every aspect of it and you
embrace every aspect.
You may not be able to do it
all at once.
You may not be able to do it
all at once.
It may be a heavy load to begin
with, but that's how you come to it.
You accept all of it and you commit
yourself to all of it and you live
your life that way.
And your life, every choice, every decision you
are making is to get you across the
finishing line.
So ask forgiveness of him and he will
forgive you.
O' those who seek forgiveness, ask forgiveness of
Allah.
This sincerity to Allah and to give a
person his life for his Lord who has
given him this life is the least we
can do.
This is the least we can give him.
Anything less than our entire life, our money
and what we have is a real shortcoming
in the right of the Lord.
And if you turn away, he will replace
a people other than you, then they will
not be like you.
He is the one who is able to
replace us.
And he asks Allah to not do it
and to use us for his religion and
to forgive and to forgive our shortcomings.
But this is his question from them, peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him.
Give what you have and do not fear
Allah if you are blamed.
Do not fear that someone will blame you.
Do not fear that someone will say to
you, why did you do it?
Is it not a shame?
Did you not do it?
Did you not turn away?
Why did you separate?
Why did you try?
No, we do not fear except Allah.
And we do not give except what Allah
wants.
And this needs courage, and it needs patience,
and it needs love.
It needs love.
To love Allah.
By Allah, no one can force himself to
love someone unless he loves him.
It is not possible.
It is not possible to force yourself to
love someone unless you love him.
And if you do not love him, it
is not possible for you.
It is not possible.
Love is the first, the last, and the
basis in this religion.
The love of Allah.
To love him because you realized how much
he gave you.
And how much he hurt you.
And how much he guided you.
And how much he was patient with you.
And how much he was kind to you.
And how much I was with him in
all of that.
And how much I was short in his
right.
And how much I was stubborn in his
matter.
And how much I was disobedient.
And he did not judge me.
And he did not kick me out of
his door.
So what honor is this from him?
So is it possible for me to give
him something that is less than myself and
my wealth?
By Allah, this is an abominable character.
He says, subhanahu wa ta'ala,
Say,
indeed, my rituals and my prayers and my
process of living and my process of dying
is all for Allah.
Everything about me.
Everything about me.
This is how he was.
This is how he lived.
Aisha tells us he would pray all night.
Ya Rasulullah, don't you want to relax?
He would stand until his
feet would change color.
He would stand in Salat until his feet
would change in color.
And she would tell him, Ya Rasulullah, all
of your sins are forgiven.
Take rest.
How can I not be
a grateful servant?
He gave me everything, subhanahu wa ta'ala.
How do I not love him back?
How is that acceptable?
The sahabah can ask Aisha after he passed
away, How was the Prophet ﷺ have certain
days he did more deeds than other deeds?
was consistent.
He was there in the zone all the
time.
And who of you can do what he
did?
True, we can't.
We can't.
But we can't treat Islam as something that
we do when we have time.
It can't be on the priority list anything
than number one.
It can't.
It doesn't function if it is.
You put it number two or number three
or number four, it doesn't work.
And if you're wondering how an ummah of
two billion people, with all the resources and
all of the intellect and all of the
youth, can't get anything done, that's why.
That's exactly why.
Because Islam has yet to be put back
in its appropriate place on that priority list.
It's yet to be put.
Once it gets put back again, you'll see
the change.
But until then, enjoy this.
What has it been now?
A year and a month?
More?
Fourteen months now?
How much longer can something like this go
on?
How many children have to die?
How many?
Do you not have children?
Do you not have a child you love
in your life?
A niece, a nephew, a friend?
You don't see these people burying their children?
How is that acceptable?
How is that okay?
How is that all still happening?
How can I even take time to think
about anything in my life?
How can I complain about anything?
What really do I have to complain about
here?
Until it's taken back.
Until we give that to him.
We offer our pledge to the Prophet ﷺ.
Say, yes, we prioritize this.
We're going to live for this.
We're going to live for it.
And a backwards group
came after them.
And they messed up their prayers.
And they followed their whims.
And they will find agony.
They will find wickedness.
And a
group who went backwards came after them.
They inherited the book and they sold it.
They sold a portion of that book to
make something for their dunya.
They compromised some of what was in the
book.
They sold it for their own dunya.
And they said, Allah is forgiving.
He'll forgive us.
Were they not
asked to give their pledge?
Were they not asked to give their
That they will stick to what's in
the book?
Did they not study what's in the book?
And see what it said?
Yeah.
They offered it.
And we have
to do the same.
And until we do, then we will not
find what they found.
They won't find the beauty.
They won't find the ease.
And they won't find the joy of having
the هَدِي of Muhammad ﷺ enter your life.
And that's the fourth article of this pledge.
I hope that was a benefit.
