Until the khatir is done, and then they
can get up, and they can stay quiet
inshallah until the khatir is over Yaru'il
Imam Bukhari, yufi sahihihi an abi hurairata radiallahu
anhu qal The hadith tonight is a collection
of Imam Bukhari narrated by Abu Huraira It's
also in the collection of Abu Dawood and
Tirmidhi and Nasa'i narrated by Abu Huraira
and by a number of other sahaba, and
I'm going to quote to you the narration
of Abu Huraira of Imam Bukhari, forgive me,
and then I may quote like aspects or
parts of the hadith that are in other
collections just to help with the understanding of
it and I'm still within the, this is
still within the theme of etiquettes of Salah
I have maybe a few more that I
want to share with you, and then I'll
move on to something different And in this
hadith, this is a very famous hadith.
You've heard it before so hopefully inshallah You'll
be able to kind of follow along Qala
Abu Huraira, qala dakhala rajulun ila almasjidi walnabiyyu
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam ajalisun ma'a ashabihi
A man entered the masjid when the Prophet
alayhi salatu wasalam was seated surrounded by his
companions giving a dars or talking Fasalla Thumma
ata alnabiyya fasallama alaihi Faradda alnabiyyu sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam alaihi salam.
So the man prayed Did his two rak
'ah of taheet almasjid, then he came to
the Prophet alayhi salatu wasalam, gave salams and
sat So the Prophet alayhi salatu wasalam responded
with his salams, said alaikumus salam Qala thumma
qala Irji' fa salli, fa innaka lam tu
salli.
Go back and pray because You didn't really
pray Qala fa qama alrajulu, fa aada fasalla,
thumma aad, fa karala alnabiyyu sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam alqawlahu thalatha And this happened three times
The man would go back, he'd pray, come
back, sit down, give salams, he would respond
alayhi salatu wasalam, alaikumus salam, go back, pray
again Three times.
Qala fa ba'da thalitha qala bi abiyya anta
wa ummiya rasulallah, inni la wuhsinu ghayraha Yani
I love you Rasulallah more than I love
my parents.
I don't know Anything besides what I've done.
Fa'allimni, teach me.
Fa qala sallallahu alaihi wa sallam Itha khumta
ila as-salah, fa kabbir, thumma qara ma
tayassara maaka minal quran When you come to
your prayer, do takbeer, and then recite what
you have from the Quran.
In another narration, qala fa qara bi ummi
al-kitab Meaning read surah al-fatiha, ummi
al-kitab, ummi al-quran, al-fatiha Wa
ma tayassara minal quran, and then whatever you
have from the quran Fa in lam yakul
maak, fa kabbir, wa hallil.
If you don't know fatiha or quran at
all, then do allahu akbar wa lillahi alhamd
wa subhanallah Just do tasbeehat if you don't
have anything else.
Qal thumma arqa, hatta tatma'inna raki'a
And then make ruku'a until you find
yourself in a state of calmness during ruku
'a.
In another narration, qala Irqa, wa mdud yadayka,
wa msik rukbatayka, wa makkin lil ruku'ik
Straighten your arms out, hold on to your
knees, and give yourself some time Makkin lil
ruku'ik, meaning have a strong ruku'a,
where your knees, where your legs are standing
straight You're not bending your knees, and you're
not just touching your knees with your hands
as if you're disgusted of your knees You're
actually holding down properly, makkin, wa makkin lil
ruku'ik Qal thumma arfa, hatta ta'tadi laqa
'ima, and then stand up, make sure you
stand up straight In another narration, qala Hatta
ya'uda kullu azmin ila nifsalih, until all
of your bones fall back into their sockets
again You stand up until you feel that
your whole body is back to normal when
you stand up Qal thumma sujud, hatta tatma
'inna sajida, and then perform your sujud, and
put calmness in your sujud In another narration,
qala, fa thbut wajhaka wa yadayka alal ardi,
make sure that your hands and your face
Is properly positioned on the ground, wa makkin
li mafasilika alal ardi, make sure all of
your joints are touching the ground appropriately So
I see people make sujud, and their feet
are up, I don't understand what that means,
what they think they're doing Like they make
sujud, and their feet are elevating I think
they're imagining that they're flying, like the feet
have to be on the ground, and it
should be on the ground with your toes
Or on the ground, not the way that
you do in judus, so your feet are
touching the ground, your knees are properly on
the ground Your hand, your face, your nose
is properly on the ground Qal thumma ajlis,
hatta tatma'inna jalisa, and then sit until
you find calmness in your seat Qal thumma
sujud, hatta tatma'inna sajida, and then make
sujud, and find calmness in your sujud Waf
'al thalika fee salatika kulliha, and then do
that in all of your prayer And then
the narration, qala fa idha faalta thalika, if
you do all this, tammat salatuk, then your
prayer is complete Wa inin taqasta minhu shay
'an, in taqasta min salatik And the more
things that you steal from this, that you
decrease, that you don't do appropriately, the more
things that you're stealing away from your own
salah The more movements that you don't give
the proper timing for, that you don't give
some calmness, you don't say the words that
you should The more ajr, like salah has
this humongous ajr, that is not even quantifiable
And the less time you spend in salah,
like you know what I'm talking about, the
marathon salah, where you're trying to break a
world record And try to get it in
under 15 seconds, the two rak'ahs No,
when you do that, all of the ajr
that was prepared for your salah is basically
drained out, and nothing is left of it
Some people come yawm al qiyamah, and this
is a hadith, also in the collection of
Imam Ahmed and Tirmidhi with the authentic chain
Where their salah will be folded up as
clothing that is clean, and it will cover
their awrah yawm al qiyamah And others, their
salah will be scruffled up like a dirty
piece of laundry And in the hadith, it's
thrown in their faces, and they're told, take
your salah, we don't want it Whatever you
did for us, take it, take this lousy
salah that you did, keep it with you
May Allah protect all of us from this
And it comes from not understanding what he
said here Imagine, I want you to imagine
that you came to the masjid of the
Prophet You prayed your tahiyyat al masjid, you
came and sat in his halaqah He looked
at you and answered your salam, and then
he says, go back and pray You didn't
really pray Like I know that you made
some movements, but that doesn't qualify as a
prayer Like you didn't actually pray Some people,
the Prophet, when he sees them pray, is
saying that, do it again That's not really
a prayer There's a lot of ajr for
your salah, and the less time you spend,
and the less focus you have The ajr
is draining out, and draining out, and draining
out Until there's nothing left in the skeleton
of that ajr And then yawm al qiyamah,
what are you hoping for?
In order for you to be assessed for
your kindness, and for your jihad, and your
empathy And your hard work, and your dedication,
and your bir al walidayn And all of
the sadaqah that you gave, in order for
you to be assessed for that Assessed for
it, you have to have your salah If
your salah is not there, then he's not
looking at the rest of the things, subhanahu
wa ta'ala You may say, but no,
I have this great deed, did you pray?
No, then, I don't care I don't need
it from you Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
doesn't need our good deeds He doesn't require
them, doesn't benefit from them He's only going
to give you ajr if you cared about
your relationship with Allah If you loved Allah,
and you were close to Allah, subhanahu wa
ta'ala Then he will give you ajr
for all the good stuff that you did
But if you come yawm al qiyamah and
say, I did all these good things But
ya abdi, you never spoke to me You
never spoke to me I used to, five
times a day, prepare to speak to you
And you never spoke, you never cared, you
never did it properly You never gave it
time, you never focused It was never something
that you cared about I don't want you,
I don't want your deeds Keep them, find
someone else to give you the ajr for
your deeds, subhanahu wa ta'ala And this
is why the etiquettes of salah are as
important as learning the arqan and the sunan
And the wajibat and the nawaqat Just like
you learn fiqh about salah, so you do
it, so legally it's acceptable You have to
learn the etiquettes, so that spiritually it can
be acceptable And it can be permissible and
rewardable by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala And
I want to share this hadith with you
Because it's an important hadith and has a
lot of meanings for it I hope you
find that beneficial SubhanAllah wa bihamdika shaytanir rajim
La ilaha illa anta astaghfiru watoobu ilayk Wassalamualaikum
