Abu Taymiyyah – Part 2 Traits Of The Awliyaa Amsterdam

That's what really Ilm is.
Not what my uncle said to me,
or what my sheikh, you know,
thought of.
And then my brothers and my sisters,
you have the issue of
which is one of the most difficult things
that one
has to wrestle with himself on all the
time.
And this was Sufianathura hamalawta'ala
mentioned.
I haven't wrestled. I haven't
faced a challenge more greater than my intention.
Because my intention keeps changing and moving from
one place to another.
For every Ibadah that you do, you always
have to ask yourself before that.
Am I really doing this for Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala? Especially in this day and age,
when
a video that gets released might get thousands
of views. Are we doing it just for
the views?
Are we doing it because we want to
become famous, we want to become known?
We should always ask ourselves before the Ibadah,
am I really doing this for Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala? And then at the time of
Ibadah, I still have to be what? Wrestling
with myself.
Am I still doing it for Allah azza
wa jal?
And then I asked myself after the Ibadah,
did I really, really do this for Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala's sake?
Also, Sheikh Nasal
Those who became great individuals like Imam Mohammed,
those even before
him whose names are mentioned all the time.
And Imam Malik Rahimullah
Ta'ala, Imam Shafi'i, Imam Abu Hanifa,
except because of what?
The Ikhlas that they came with.
They might have been some individuals
who were more knowledgeable than them.
They had more ilm.
But Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
rafaa
zikram.
Allah azza wa raised their mention.
It might have been because of the Ikhlas
that they came here. Look at Imam Abu
Rakimallahu ta'ala.
Just about every single household,
you find that this book is present.
Scholars, they mentioned, perhaps it was because of
his Ikhlas
That you find this kitab has so much
Kabul,
has acceptance
amongst the people.
Also another important matter,
important statement I want to mention with regards
to the issue of Ikhlas, and this is
Ajeeb.
So
was somebody that Imam Shafi rhamallahu ta'ala said
about him.
I never
saw
anybody who was more intelligent than these two
people,
Sulaiman
and also
Imam
Muslims. You know what he said?
Sometimes I narrate a hadith and I have
begins to change. And then in the end
he says,
Maybe one hadith requires multiple intentions. What do
I mean by
that? The hadith of Jibril.
When Jibril came to the message, it's a
long hadith. Right?
How many lines to Khribin?
Twelve lines?
He says when I'm narrating a hadith,
I might have
a correct intention right at the beginning.
Are you with me my brothers and my
sisters?
And then all of a sudden my intention
begins to change. Maybe while he's teaching, more
people have now entered,
and the shaytan enters into his intention.
By making him someone,
maybe you should try to impress these people
now.
Speak to impress. They say, dress to impress.
Right? Now speak.
Beautify the way you speak even more. Now
there's more people here. Try to impress them.
Then he said, perhaps maybe one hadith requires
multiple multiple intentions.
Are you with me my brothers and my
sisters? If this is with regards to one
hadith, how about whole muhavra?
A whole video that a person records.
Many acts of worship that he performs.
And then he goes on to say,
They are those
who structured their journey to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala and also the hereafter
between two things.
Having hope and also having fear.
Whenever they do a good deed, my brothers
and my sisters,
they combine between having fear and also having
hope.
They hope that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
going to accept
the act of good deed from them.
And they also are terrified that this is
now going to be
rejected.
Like for example, we came out of Ramadan.
For somebody to think that my Ramadan was
accepted, this is a wrong mentality to have.
And this wasn't a way of the salif.
He has the hope of this being accepted.
This is why
we hear that, you know, the salif of
the past for a whole 6 months.
After the month of Ramadan, they would be
asking Allah azza wa to accept it from
them. Right?
And then for the remaining 6 months,
they would be saying, Allahumma balighnahramadan.
Oh Allah, help us reach the month of
Ramadan.
Ramadan.
Because we don't know that our actions have
been accepted.
Umar ibn Khattab radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu he said,
if I knew that one sajda,
one sajda, prostration was accepted,
I would have loved to go and meet
Allah azza wa jal and leave this
world. Why?
Because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, He only accepts
from those who come with taqwa.
And the taqwa is inside the heart. You
cannot necessarily see exactly if you have taqwa
in your heart. And Allah only accepts from
these people.
And when they do a bad deed,
they are again between what? Fear and hope.
They hope that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
going to forgive them.
While at the same time they are fearful
of the punishment.
A nice example that I heard one of
the mashaikh say was,
it's a bit like the
kid
who had the ice cream van going past.
You guys know what ice cream van is?
When the little kid is at home and
he hears the ice cream van going past,
he has hope and he also has
fear.
What does he have hope for?
We was kids, right?
Did mom and dad always used to give
us money every time we ask for an
ice cream and we had the ice cream
van?
I woke them when you had take ice
cream?
It doesn't always give you ice cream whenever
you ask.
So every time we hear it, we have
the hope of what? That mom is going
to give us the money.
And we have the fear of what?
Is the ice cream van going to be
waiting for you? Does your dad own the
ice cream van?
He's going to wait for you whenever you
want and he's going to leave whenever,
La.
By the time you get your money, the
ice cream van
could have already gotten away.
And likewise the one who's trying to catch
a flight.
He hopes that he catches this fly while
at the same time he's terrified like me
all the time.
Every single time I travel, I have that
kawf al shaded.
Even now, subhanAllah, when I was coming to
Holland,
Allah I forgot my passport
back in Leicester, and I'm in London.
It's like maybe 6 hours remaining, it takes
2 hours to get
there and 2 hours to come back. I
was making dua throughout the whole shabu you
Allah sa'idni. You know? And it was at
a time
when there's a lot of traffic, a lot
of traffic.
At 5 o'clock, that's when everybody's leaving their
work.
I spent the night in London,
thinking that everything is fine.
I'm gonna catch my flight. I'm nice and
early.
Around 2:30
or 3 o'clock,
I remember that my passport is still there
and my flight is at 8.
So I had to rush
and then rush back.
A long stand.
Look at my brothers and my sisters how
the people of the past, they used to
be so fearful.
Then you can maybe
compare that to our situation.
On his deathbed when he was sick,
Abu Ray radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu began to cry.
So he was said to him, what is
it that makes you cry?
I do not cry
because I'm about to miss out on your
dunya.
But that which makes me cry is
how far my journey is
and how little I have to show for
it.
And I'm going to wake up one night
and I'm between the Jannah and likewise the
fire.
And I don't know where I'm going to
be entering.
My brothers and my sisters,
said, Abu Hurayra was the one who narrated
the most hadith.
And then he's saying,
that which makes me cry is how far
my journey is and how little I have
to show for it.
From this act of Abu Hurray radiAllahu ta'ala
Anhu.
We all know the famous hadith when the
messenger of Allah Alaihi Wasallam told us
The fire is going to be ignited with
3 types of people.
3 types of people
are going to enter into the Halfi before
everybody else.
Before even those who committed shirk.
One of them was who?
The person who learned the deen of Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in order to be called
an alim.
The one who went out for jihad in
order to
be called the Mujahid. And the third one
is
what? The one who paid charity in order
to be seen as somebody who's very very
generous.
Abu Huray radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu,
he passed out 3 times.
He fainted
when he was narrating his hadith. 3 times.
We're going to mention 2 moderation with regards
to this.
Of the messenger salaeala alaihi wa sallam. The
messenger sala disclosed to him
the secrets of those who were the munafiqeen.
Khalifa knew them,
not everyone else knew them.
So so and so passed away, Umar ibn
Khattab radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu went past him in
the masjid, and he said to him, Fesh
give your testimony
about this individual. Is he from the munafiqeen?
Is he not from the munafiqeen?
So he
told him,
As he was about to leave the masjid,
he came up to Hudayfar radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu
and he asked him. This is Umar ibn
Muhtab radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu who was walking on
the face of this earth and he knew
that he was men.
Those who are given glad tidings, the 10
of the companions who knew that were entering
into Aljannah.
He asked him, did the messenger salallahu alaihi
wa sallam mention me from the
Unafikin? So Hudayfa said to him, and
I'm not going to tell anybody after you.
Another
great companion.
When he used to
go to the place where he would sleep,
he would be turning from side to side
like that.
And then he would say,
Oh Allah, the fire, thinking about the hellfire
has caused me
or has caused my sleep to disappear.
And then he would stand up and he
will stop praying
all the way till the morning.
The believer,
his fear cannot become calm
until he
travels over the bridge and he passes by.
This is the fear my brothers and my
sisters that these companions had
of how they worshiped Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
If we worshiped Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
we had these on the back of our
minds, my brothers and my sisters,
do you really really think we're going to
become complacent?
One thinking to himself that khalas, you know,
I can maybe relax.
And now with regards to the rajah, if
an individual just constantly has fear on the
back of his mind, it could actually destroy
him.
This is why he needs to have hope
as well that keeps him going.
So he doesn't feel like that there's no
point
of him continuing
the good deeds.
Abdullah Mubarak
I came to the other great tabi, a
sufian al Thori on the day of Arafah.
My brothers and my sisters, the day of
Arafah is the one of the greatest
days of the year.
Ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to take you,
that he take you on Hajj and you
will see something
that really would mind boggle you.
Every single individual
is standing around whether he's rich, whether he's
poor.
They are all in wearing 2 garments.
The ihram at the top and the ihram
at the bottom.
All of them are crying out for the
rahmah of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
This is when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala comes
down.
If you miss this day my brothers and
my sisters, you've missed your hajj. Al Hajj
u Arafa, as the messenger salaam alayhi wa
sama said.
He comes up to him
and he's on his knees,
and he's crying from Who
is the worst of the people who are
here today in Arafah?
The one who thinks that Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala is not going to forgive him, he
is the worst of the people.
Should have the hope no matter what you've
done that Allah is going to forgive you.
These are the people who Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala
has filled their hearts
with much love and affection for the most
merciful
one. These people, my brothers and my sisters
that were speaking about who are from the
oliya, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has filled their hearts
with love
for himself.
Why did he choose them to love Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala so much?
Because they came with the things
that brings about the love of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Because my brothers and my sisters, when we
really really love something,
we're going to try utmost best in order
to please that individual
We will do the things that will make
them happy, that will make them joyful.
A man who really really loves his wife,
they just got married.
Do you think he's going to be
making her upset? Saying things that she doesn't
like?
Because he really loves her. Right?
At the beginning, love is blind. He's going
to walk in everyday with
the flowers,
take her to the ice cream parlor.
Louise Vuitton bag this, that.
Here to headbo. She loves these things and
is going to do the things that she
loves.
And likewise, my brothers and my sisters, if
their hearts
is connected to what it loves,
it's going to try and do everything that's
going to bring about that person's love as
well. You love something, you wanna be loved
back in return.
Ibn Al Aym,
he mentions 10 things that bring about the
love of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And when you are loved by Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, my brothers and my sisters,
remember,
there is times when you really really need
something.
Imagine every time you really need something,
it is brought to you straight away.
Whether it is a du'a that you make,
And even without having to make du'a, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala
is
Sameer Al Basir. Right? He can see everything
and He can hear everything.
He knows what's going through your mind and
what you really really need.
Isn't there times my brothers and my sisters
where
we just think of something and then it
comes to us?
Does that happen
sometimes?
I can see some of you guys nodding
your heads.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala knows what you want
and knows what you need. If you are
a servant to him that
is really beloved to
Reading the book of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
with contemplation.
So you try to understand what Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala is actually trying to say in
His book.
You know when we go for a marriage
meeting and we really really love this girl,
we're going to try and find everything about
her. Right?
So we understand that individual better
because we love that individual,
and we try to come up with surprises.
So in order my brothers and my sisters
to really love something
and increase in love, we're going to try
and what? Understand
what they're trying to say.
And I'm going to be insha Allahu Ta'ala
touching on this issue in detail later on.
Seeking closeness to Allah subhan
with Nawafil.
As Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala mentioned,
My abd will keep getting closer to me
after he's come of the fara'id
through the nawafil until I begin to love
him.
These little, you know, couple of minutes that
we pray a sunan,
4 before door, the 2 after door, the
2 after Maghrib, and the 2 after Isha,
and the 2 after or before Fajar Afan.
Small little things that bring about the love
of Allah, azza wa jal.
Point number 3.
Always constantly remembering Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And
I'm going to touch on that later on
Insha'Allah Ta'ala in more detail.
Make mention of me and I will make
mention of you, Allah azza wa jalai tells
us.
It is
to constantly remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in
all cases.
Point number 4,
Always to make Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala before
everything
else.
The Holland game is going on
really really tasty, the semifinal.
The time of salah kicks in.
Are you with me my brothers and my
sisters?
You all support Holland here?
Everyone said no.
And who do you support?
Not anyone.
You say for Turkey.
Sometimes a football game is going on and
a time of salah kicks
in. It's times like this my brothers and
masters, even though the temptation is there to
carry on watching,
He's retired.
To carry on watching
the Holland game,
Find the streets. They all have Holland badges,
Holland flags, Holland
shelves.
Ksina Allah aza wa jal is calling you.
And you put all of that to the
side and you run to Allah aza wa
jal.
All of these points, some of these points
I were mentioning later on will be mentioned
independently.
Point number 5.
Exposing the heart to Allah,
my brothers and my sisters to the names
and attributes of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Because my brothers and my sisters mentioned in
someone else
Whoever comes to know about Allah azza wa
jal through his names
and attributes and his actions, he must love
Allah azza wa
jal. How Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala controls the
The way you know he saw Hakim.
Wise in the way things happen to a
person in his life. Sometimes things are taken
away from him.
And he thinks that he's actually missing out,
but in fact Allah azzawajal is protecting him
from another evil.
And then later on you realize, SubhanAllah.
Imagine that was still happening. But
now this.
Point number 6, to recognize the blessings of
Allah aza wa jal, everything that He's given
us.
And by looking at those less fortunate to
us, it will make these
nii'am, these bounties more more apparent.
Point number 7.
It is to break down in front of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in totality.
Even
Ibn Uqaym says,
It is difficult
to put this even into words.
That you sometimes by yourself.
It is only you and Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala, and you break down in front of
him in total humility.
The the 6th or the 7th?
Point number 8.
To seclude yourself with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
at the time when Allah aza wa jal
is coming down.
To be in the salah through interaction. Right?
Because when a person stands in front of
Allah azza wa Jal fa'inu, you know jirabbah
who is interacting with his Lord,
and to recite the book of Allah azza
wa Jal at that time.
Wake up in the last 3rd of the
night, my brothers and my sisters, and see
how you feel and see how your day
starts as well.
While everybody is asleep,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has handpicked out individuals
to
stand in front of him. It is a
gift that he only gives to some people
and many people are deprived from it.
Some of the people of the past, my
brothers and my sisters, they would say I
was deprived of Tiyamulayl
for over 20 years because of a sin
that I committed.
And then after when he's finished praying and
reading Quran, he concludes his night by saying,
Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah.
Astaghfirullah.
Astaghfirullah.
Atasya,
point number 9.
Mujalasatulmuhibin
as Sadiqin.
To sit with those
Almuhibin.
Those who love Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and
those who are truthful.
And
also picking out
the best of their speeches and taking it
back home with you.
The same way when an individual, my brothers
and my sisters,
he walks under a tree and you find
that the fruits are falling off.
The rotten fruits, is he going to take
it home with him? And he's just going
to be taking the ripe,
tasty fruits. Right? He's going to be taking
that with him.
Staying away from the things that is going
to further and distance your heart away from
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
I'm going to mention this one insha Allahu
Ta'ala, then we're going to have a break.
Then he goes on to say,
These people my brothers and my sisters are
individuals
who excessively remember Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Fisir in secret,
also out in the open and also at
all times.
This is how the messenger salallahu alaihi wasalam
was like. Can Nabi salallahu alaihi wasalam has
Aisha radiAllahu ta'ala and have mentioned?
He used to remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
at all times.
My brothers and my sisters, does it really
really take much out of us?
Does it really require a lot of effort?
The one to just constantly be saying, Astaghfirullah,
Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah,
astaghfirullah. When he's driving from place to place,
when he's going from place to place, walking
here and walking there,
while you're not necessarily doing anything with your
tongue.
And the amount of benefits my brothers and
my sisters that can be turned into a
whole.
If only we just mentioned this ayah, it
would be more than sufficient when Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala
quotes.
You're struggling to have children.
You're struggling financially.
I say to you say,
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is going to
send down upon you
wealth. It's going to send down upon you
rain, jannatin.
Also, gardens will be dispersed towards you.
Sometimes my brothers and my sisters,
you
know, it's really struggling financially and we're looking
for a job.
Sit down and try to remember Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
There's these little things that a person might
carry.
Things. You guys may have seen it.
Before somebody says there's a bida, let me
explain.
And the reason why some may say it's
a bid'ah is because of this incident that
took place,
of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and Ras Abu Musa
alaihi
wasalam passed away, they were counting
Make taghbir a 100 and make subhanAllah a
100.
And they disapproved and criticized them. Right?
But what were they actually criticizing them for?
Some of the scholars explained this. What they
were criticizing them for
was the fact that they were counting.
But not necessarily
what they were doing in order to remind
them of the dhikr.
The same way the alarm clock,
it wakes you up in the morning. It's
a tool. Right?
Tajid
And I'll say this,
These things have in your hand. It really
reminds an individual.
All the time it keeps his tongue moist
of the dhikr of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
That's why many scholars mentioned. Even though it
is better to use your hands,
other than him.
So these things sometimes we might carry even
if it is like a piece of thread.
Something
