Abu Taymiyyah – Part 13 Do I have To Wash The Thick & Thin Beard

And then he goes on to say my

beloved brothers and sisters, Waqaalu rahimu Allah

Waqaana yukhallilu lihyahahu ahiyanan

We are now going to speak about

the beard.

He says here,

the Messenger

used to do takleel

of the beard. Taghleel, my brothers and my

sisters, is to take fingers.

Okay? And then

to place it inside of the beard like

that.

Okay? Like that.

And there's a number of ways that an

individual can,

implement the sunnah of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi

Wasallam with regards to

washing the beard.

And he has 3 different scenarios. The first

one is that he gets some water, and

then he does this.

I know my beard is a bit thick,

but some people have very, very short or

very small beards. So you take water, and

then you place it like that. I remember

our Sheikh, Sheikh Abdul Samu Shoa in the

Haram,

and I never forgot it, SubhanAllah, because of

him demonstrating it. Sheikh has a little beard.

You can try to Google him or YouTube

him. He has a little bed. He did

this and he was just put it inside

like that. And this is exactly what the

Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam

kanay that Tawaba is Anasim Malekah radiAllahu ta'ala

* mention whenever he did wudu,

Akhadakafanimma,

he would take a kaff,

a handful of water like that,

Fa'atkala ootahta hanaqihi,

and then he would place it

under his bed.

Okay. So that's the first scenario.

The second scenario is what I showed earlier.

You take water and then you start placing

it. You start placing it like that into

your beard.

Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.

Remember how Sheikh Salah al Sindhi demonstrated this

in Haram as well. He took his fingers

and he started putting it inside of his

beard like that,

and it just really stuck with me because

it's something that it gets demonstrated, right?

And then the 3rd scenario, my beloved

brothers and sisters is,

to take water and then start doing this.

So you then

start like

on the side of your beard.

Payib.

$1,000,000 question now that,

some of you guys may be itching to

ask.

Do I have to wash the bed when

doing the wudu? Is it a mas? Is

it an obligation? Is it sunnah? Is it

not?

It depends what kind of beard you have.

It really does.

Okay?

Because we know the beard is part of

the face. Right? And we mentioned before that

washing the face,

washing the face, is a pillar from the

pillars of the wudu. And we know here

that the beard is on the face as

well.

The principle here is,

if you have a thin beard,

then you have to wash the outside

and the inside as well. I'll repeat that

again.

If you have a thin beard,

then you have to wash

the inside and the outside as well.

But if you have a thick beard,

you have to wash

the outside

only,

and not the inside.

Let me repeat it all again.

Principle is, if you have a thin beard,

you have to wash the inside and likewise

the outside.

If you have a thick beard,

then you only have to wash the outside.

How do I know if I have a

thin beard or a thick beard?

They say my beard is a perfect example

for this because it has both.

Okay. So as you can see my brothers

and my sisters, you can see the skin

behind my beard.

They say if you can see the skin

behind your beard, then that is considered to

be a thin beard. So this part of

my beard here, you would have to make

sure that you do the inside and the

outside as well.

As for this

part, this is not considered to be a

thin bed because you can't see the skin

behind

the bed.

Right? So that would be considered to be

a thick bed.

You will only have to wash the outside

of it.

You will only have to wash the lahir

the outside of it.

We

also mentioned that the face is from here,

all the way up to here, right to

the chin.

What about,

The beard that is growing under

my chin.

Okay, like this part for example.

The majority of scholars, they hold the view

that you have to wash the outside only.

You don't have to,

wash the inside.

But like I said earlier, the sunnah of

the messian sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, it's a

sunnah practice, and we know that the difference

between a sunnah and that which is

obligatory is sunnah.

If you do it, you get a reward

for it. And if you don't, you're not

gonna get a sin, and that act of

worship is still correct. However, if I say

something is mandatory,

like washing the beer that's on my face

here, k, whether it's thin or thick.

We mentioned the principle of how to go

about it.

That case is an obligation,

and if you leave of an obligation,

you're,

you're going to get a sin for it.

And if pillar is depending on it,

then your pillar could either be correct or

incorrect, and based on that, your can

be rendered invalid.
