My dear respected brothers and sisters, today I
want to discuss a very, very important crucial
topic.
With Ramadan around the corner,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is about to give us an opportunity
that many people were deprived from.
This opportunity my brothers and my sisters
in which the messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam he
said, ila nakhalashaha
When the month of Ramadan enters,
the doors of Jannah are swung open,
and the doors of hellfire are slammed shut.
And also the shayateen, they are changed.
As they say my brothers and my sisters,
this is a month of change.
If a person wanted to rid himself
of a bad habit,
here you find the month of Ramadan.
The scene has been set for him.
If he wanted to introduce
a characteristic
that is praiseworthy into his life,
then the month of Ramadan is his opportunity.
It's an opportunity my brothers and my sisters
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala doesn't give to
everybody.
This is why the salaf
and when I say the salaf, I mean
the 3 golden generations.
Those the messenger salallahu alayhi wa sallam
The best of the generation is my generation.
Those who came after them, the Tabireen. And
those who came after them, the Tabire Tabireen.
For a whole 6 months
before the month of Ramadan,
they are begging Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Oh Allah, give us the success
to be able to reach the month of
Ramadan.
Because not everybody gets the opportunity.
This is why Abu Juzir rahimawala wa ta'ala,
If it was said to the people in
the grave,
make a wish,
they would make the wish of spending a
day in the month of Ramadan.
So my brothers and my sisters,
I want you hold the ponder upon this
question.
How many of us
asked Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
in the duas that we make?
Oh, Allah give us the opportunity to be
able to breathe in the month of Ramadan.
How many people have passed away
before the month of Ramadan?
I was already planning to do this huqba.
So when I spoke to sheikh Abu Samah,
he reminded me and told me that there
is already 3 people who have passed away.
In this week that I just passed.
What guarantee,
my brothers and my sisters, do we have
to be able to breathe in the first
few days of the month of Ramadan?
I'm sure every single one of us here
knows
about the undoubtedly
the greatest boxer
to ever walk on the face of this
earth.
Muhammad Ali,
a couple of years back, he died just
before the month of Ramadan.
Most people don't think about
them
or their souls being ripped out of them
in the month of Sha'agan.
And all of you guys can relate to
this. How many people are passing away?
So many people that I see, my brothers
and my sisters,
us living in Al Madina,
we get a reminder.
A reminder that just becomes normal. Sometimes we
even forget what type of reminder it is
after every salah. There is a salah in
janaza.
There is a funeral prayer that is prayed
just like every single one of us here
today.
People who go out on an enura,
they are being prayed on after every single
prayer.
I remember last year my brothers and my
sisters,
something that Shem Abdul Azakal Benal, a teacher
that teaches us in the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasall mentioned.
He told us that a brother came up
to him
a couple of weeks before the month of
Ramadan,
and he was showing him the schedule
of a brother in Africa
who was planning to do many many programs
in the month of Ramadan.
A couple of weeks later,
that same brother comes up to him and
he tells him, oh, sheikh, that brother who
wanted to do all of these programs, he
has passed away.
He wanted to teach this, he wanted to
teach that, and that really really hit my
heart.
Because at that same time, I was preparing
my summer schedule
of all the programs I'm going to be
doing
in the month of Ramadan.
My brothers and my sisters,
these people that are dying
in front of us, it should be a
reminder to us.
We don't need even people to come and
start giving us advices and telling us stories.
The messenger salallahu alaihi wa sallam he said,
death is enough of a reminder.
The messenger
the destroyer of all pleasures,
the destroyer of all pleasures, and that is
a mote.
My brothers and my sisters,
if in this month we can't change,
we can't sort out our hearts, we can't
clean it, we can't purify it, when will
we get the opportunity?
When do you think
as a muslim, you will be able to
change your heart? Like I mentioned, the scene
has been set.
The rahma of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
evermore present. There is more blessings.
An opportunity that Allah has given to us,
my brothers and my sisters.
If we really can't change, then we really
really have to inspect our hearts.
We have to ask ourselves,
what is wrong with us? Why can we
not even taste the sweetness of the Quran?
We really really need a check
when something is physically wrong with us. Wallahi,
we run to the NHS. We go to
the GP.
That is something to relate it to a
physical sickness.
What about my brothers and sisters, this spiritual
sickness?
We should not be surprised
when all of a sudden our limbs,
our hands,
our tongues,
our feet
are doing horrible things. And that is because
my brothers and sisters initially started from the
heart.
It was narrated by Imam al Bukhara, imul
halideenurmani
al Bashir, that the messenger salamu alayhi wa
sallam said,
If that becomes rectified,
everything else becomes rectified.
If that becomes corrupt,
if that becomes corrupt, everything else becomes corrupt.
It really shouldn't surprise us why a person
all of a sudden now starts doing horrible
things because they initially originated from his heart.
This is why my brothers and my sisters,
the messengers of Allah alaihi wa sallam told
us ways to cure our heart, how to
soften it up.
And one of them, my brothers had said,
is to remember death.
So go and visit the grave. The messenger
is no Allah alaihi wa sallam.
Alaihi wa sallam He said,
I initially prohibited you from going out and
visiting the grave.
By saying to you now, go and visit
it. What is the hikma behind it?
Imam Hatin Mirrahima
he narrates an extra piece of information.
It reminds you of death, reminds you of
the akhira.
If no man has an extra piece of
information, then the messenger says,
said, what you're telling me to do with
dunya?
It makes you overlook the places of the
dunya. When you visit the grave and you're
standing there,
and you realize that it could you it
could be you that is 8 feet down
any moment.
Then, walahee, my brothers and my sisters,
all that cash that we are chasing, them
cars that we so desperately want
will look trivial to us.
It will look
absolutely nothing to us.
And for all those youngsters
who think they're only going to die when
they reach the age of 40
or 50 or 60,
the moment white hairs start appearing on your
bed,
don't wallahi, you're mistaken.
We are dealing with a lot of kids
in London.
The amount of stabbings, it may have reached
you, my brothers and my sisters, my elders.
The amount of kids that have been stuck,
There may be young and many young teenagers
here today.
The age of 15, the age of 14,
just in this month, the month before the
month of Ramadan,
how many
many Somali youngsters,
Yemeni youngsters
have passed away?
They've been stopped.
And those who are killing one another, they
are from the same people.
Wallahi my brothers and my sisters, you're not
going to get a message on Facebook.
No one's going to drop you a message
on WhatsApp,
or Instagram, or Twitter telling you that you're
about to die. Medical mode is not going
to come on Snapchat telling you that you're
about to die in 30 seconds,
or in 30 minutes, or in an hour.
Get ready. No one's gonna do that for
you.
Allah says in the Quran,
It comes to your unexpectedly.
My brothers and my sisters,
The issue of the and the issue of
the Jannah used to be mentioned to him,
and he wouldn't cry.
It was said to him,
But when the issue of the grave is
mentioned to you, then that's when you start
crying.
He would respond back and he would say,
The first stages of the
is the
the
grain.
If he is now saved
and he gained salvation when he is in
the haba, everything else will be easy.
And if he doesn't save get saved inside
the grave, everything else will become a problem
for him.
And then he goes to the messenger, salallahu
alaihi wa sallam, and he said,
I've never seen anything that looks more horrible
than the grave.
My brothers and my sisters,
tell you heed.
This is the month of change. Allah
wants to forgive us.
Allah wants to forgive you, but the people
of desire, they want you to go astray.
So my brothers and my sisters,
even though we can speak so much
about different aspects and
activities that we can engage in in the
month of Ramadan.
Today, I wanted to speak about
the issue of the Quran.
Have we ever asked ourselves this question?
Why there is so many problems taking place
in our life?
Our
houses are a war zone.
It's like a war is taking place in
the house.
Is taking place in his home.
We try to do something about it. There
is no cure for it. We can't find
a cure.
It's time we start asking ourselves, my brothers
and my sisters, it's maybe because the Quran
is missing.
Look what
mentioned.
The companion who narrated the most of the
hadith.
As Imam Suyuti, he mentioned in his
He said,
The house becomes a comfort zone.
The house becomes a comfort zone.
The shayateen, they boycott it.
And the in the house becomes increased.
That's when the Quran is being read inside
our home.
The house becomes a place of discomfort.
Where a person is loose tight in his
heart. He can't even stay in his house.
And the shayateen may come to that place.
And the malaiyah, they boycott it. In the
lukar of their Quran.
And that's when the Quran
is not recited in this house.
Quran.
Just about every single problem, my brothers and
my sisters.
If I also say here, and people would
come to me with their problems, we are
maybe able to solve it within the Quran
and the sunnah.
The happy life that we all crave
can be found inside the Quran, my brothers
and my sisters.
Whoever comes with good deeds, and he also
an iman, this person's a bereeba.
These two conditions that were mentioned, Allah is
the one that is going to give that
individual
a wonderful happy life, something that we all
want.
But how many of us, my brothers and
my sisters, we have a relationship
with the Quran, and it might be too
late once we stop picking up the Quran
in the month of Ramadan. So this is
why my brothers and my sisters,
we try our utmost best to start it
before the month of Ramadan.
Because the car might struggle to get into
gear.
And before we know it, Ramadan has slipped
away.
We really don't want to go under the
hadith
in which the messengers salallahu alayhi wasallam said,
said,
May the nose of that person be dragged
on the floor,
Finger with his speech that the messian salaw
alayhi wa sam used. He manages to reach
the month of Ramadan
and then he's not forgiven.
And the messenger
said them, when this was initially mentioned to
him by Jibreel,
he said,
Oh
Allah accept this du'a.
And in the messenger
is
saying, my brothers and my sisters
it's a problem.
It's a very, very serious problem.
If we look at the people of the
past, my brothers and my sisters,
what reached
what made them so
relevant to everybody
And the world that was living at that
time
was because of their relationship
with the Quran.
How they gave so much concern to it.
And I'll give you guys 3 examples.
The first example, my brothers and my sisters,
is a tabi
called who was a black Abyssinian,
who was
ashamed. He was
He was also
He was
He was somebody who was paralyzed.
He used to limp when he walked.
He was one eyed.
He did not have a wife.
He did not have a wife, my brothers
and my sisters. And he became blind at
the end of his life.
But what raised him my brothers and my
sisters?
The knowledge that he saw and also the
fact that he acted upon it.
And many of the other the fasir, you
find his name.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala raise this individual
who you find maybe many parts of different
communities, they will look down at him because
of the way he is. Somebody who's paralyzed,
somebody who's half blind,
somebody who lives. They might not necessarily take
him seriously.
But the law subhanahu wa ta'ala raised him
because of his relationship with the Quran.
We have another individual called Ibnu Aqsa. Some
of us may not necessarily have heard his
name.
One time,
he
left Mecca,
and he reached a place called Wissfal,
And he bumped into Nasser,
who used to be the servant of his
son, Abdullah ibn Rama.
So Nasir, he says to him, oh, Romar,
who have you left the people with?
He said,
a slave from the mini slaves that we
have. So now, he became shocked.
You left the whole of Mecca with a
slave.
Every mainstream
newspaper
is going to speak about this. Everybody is
going to be discussing it. Alisha Galani
or Theresa May when she leaves. She ends
up maybe
leaving a slave in charge of somebody who
has a very low position in society.
There's gonna be fallout. There's going to be
chaos.
Within your almsa,
He said to him, don't you know that
the messenger of the fellow
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala raises people
You can be yellow, you can be red,
you can be black, you can be white.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala based on your
relation with the Quran. And ibn Abza was
somebody who knew the Quran, and he knew
inheritance.
Being an Arab. And I say this to
you and I'm originally
Yemeni, it's not going to get you anywhere.
All your ministry you have in the religion.
Allah
doesn't look at the way you look,
or your body, or your color, but it
looks at your action.
And it also looks at
the heart that you have.
What's inside that heart?
Also, you have Ibn Abbas
My brothers and my sisters,
Ibn
Abbas
was from the young student of the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. The messenger passed away,
and he was only 6 or 7.
When he passed away, he was seeking knowledge.
He was seeking knowledge. One
came up to him and he said to
him,
Do you really think that people are going
to be in need of you? And you
have Omar, you
have Ishmael, you have Ali.
He said,
I turned away from him, and I started
seeking knowledge
from the major companions.
Will leave his house at a time when
it's really, really hot in the Arabian Peninsula.
And he would wait outside the homes of
the companions.
And when the companion comes out,
Oh, cousin of the messian sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam, If you told me, I would have
come to you. He said, no.
He struggled too.
Later on, Ibn Abbas became
the marginal.
He became the reference point
because many of the companions have passed away.
He was even more known than many of
the greater
older companions.
When you look at tafsir al al katheer,
whose tafsir is being used?
So you know what the Ansari said at
the end when he saw everybody,
you know, surrounding
This young man, he was more intelligent and
more smart than me.
My brothers and my sisters,
The
month of Ramadan in which the Quran came
down.
Let us build this relationship with the Quran
starting from this month.
My brothers and my sisters,
now that we have this reminder, some of
you guys may be thinking that I want
to maybe start this journey
in having a relationship with the Quran.
But my brothers and my sisters, there's things
that prevent us
from tasting the sweetness of the Quran,
being able to understand it.
From the things that prevent
one getting an understanding
and also tasting the sweetness of the Quran.
He mentioned 3 things.
1st point that he mentions is
1
persisting
on the sins that he keeps committing.
And my brothers and my sisters, that's the
worst thing that a person can do if
he's trying to seek knowledge or he's trying
to understand or have a relation with the
Quran.
And there's many, many examples that I give
can give to you guys, my brothers and
my sisters, and I don't know if that
time is going to allow them.
Look at Imam al Shaikhir
from the greatness of the scholars to walk
on the face of this earth.
And when Ibrahim
in his
and
listed
so many of the effects of sins.
He mentioned around 24 points. The first thing
that he started with was
When a person sins, when he watches the
things he shouldn't be watching,
when he uses his tongue with the things
he shouldn't be using it for,
It places a barrier between him and the
Quran
and also.
And the Quran is a part of.
And then he gives you an example of
imam
when he sat down in front of imam
Malik.
He said to him
I can see that Allah
Do not be somebody who extinguishes this life
because of the sins that you commit.
And we know the famous line of poetry.
What kid is telling,
imam leave of sinning and your memory will
become better.
He didn't say to him, oh, don't worry,
imam
You know, you are very old now.
Just carry on. When you become old, you
forget stuff. No. He said to him, leave
of sinning.
I searched for it. Why did imam al
Shabiray
go to a kir when he had so
many on the teachers?
He said,
he
said,
I never saw
ever holding a book
It was always just whatever was memorization.
And then he asked him, what is the
dua or misyan?
What is
the cure for forgetting?
He said to me, if I was to
tell you, are you going to act upon?
He goes here.
Leaving of sinning for indeed I've never tried
anything like it.
Well, why my brothers and my sisters,
in the year that I spent studying in
a place called Temerj in Yemen,
and also while I've been in Medina,
I struggle to find a brother
who has been trialed
with attacking people's honors,
using his tongue
the way he shouldn't be using it,
except that he struggled to progress and seek
a knowledge, and a lot of them dropped
out.
All the person was tied up.
Allah
may have saved certain brothers from watching things
they shouldn't be watching,
But then the Shaitan came from this angle
and they did not progress. They stayed in
the same place until he maybe left the
jamia or he left Yemen because he couldn't
take it anymore. And it's not rocket science
to understand why.
I have my brothers, my brothers and my
sisters,
It's as if they are tied inside the
university. You can't even go to the Haram.
Maybe because of a lot of baggage
back home.
He didn't leave some of his filthy ways,
And he's please saying to me, please akhya
advise me. How can I study?
I can't.
Wallahi there was a brother that I knew.
He could not go to the haram,
and I will try to advise him indirectly
because I noticed something with him.
Last year before I came back to the
UK,
he booed me. I sat down with him.
The brother told me And by the way,
this is a new brother. Not everybody's like
that.
He said he still has a girlfriend back
home.
And now she ended up doing something, and
he wants to really, really pack her in.
Allahu a'am what it is. Maybe she cheated
on him. I don't know.
This brother is as if he was tied
up.
He couldn't read the Quran. He couldn't study
because he's being bothered by a sin.
Some brothers, my brothers and my sisters,
and also sisters,
I tried with watching *.
And the brother is trying to study or
the sister is trying to study,
but he can't do anything.
They can't progress.
It's as if he has invisible chains on
him.
The love of the book of Allah and
also the love of music
are 2 things that can't come together in
a person's heart.
And getting a sinning right,
That could be the reason, my brothers and
my sisters, that you're being deprived
of tasting the sweetness of the Quran, that
guidance that we all need that will solve
a lot of our marital problems.
The problems with our kids
that we weren't able to do anything with
and all the other problems that we have,
that we go back to the book of
Allah
2nd point that mentioned
was
That one has
the description or the characteristic of arrogance with
him. That's why exactly destroyed.
Right? When Musa came to him with the
truth, what did he say to him?
He tried to belittle him. Said, you was
a little kid.
We nurtured you. You grew up. You spent
some time of your life with us, and
now you wanna tell me what is right
and what is wrong?
And the messenger of Allah says, explain what
kibir is,
to reject the truth and to believe in
others.
I've been in the
I knew about the deen of Allah, azza
wa jal, 20 years before you.
I heard on my own, he has one
guy saying,
I knew the dawah before you knew what
sandwich was.
Again, let's look at the sentence.
Abu Riya radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu, for a very
long time he gave the fatwa.
That if you wake up at fajr time
and you are in the state of janaba,
then you can't pass that day.
Abdul Rahman ibn Harid came up to him
who is not a known Sahabi. And he
told him, akhir, look.
They're all saying They
say that
that the messenger of Allah alaihi wa sallam
used to wake up at Hajar and he
used to fast because
Did they really say that? Khala's, I'm gonna
take it back.
Memorize the most hadith
That's what raised him.
Nevertheless, a person humble himself except
that Allah has a little reason.
And last but not least, last point that
we if the Quran mentioned was
that a person becomes enslaved to his desires.
He follows his.
His desires says to him, do this, he
does it. Turn here, he does it. And
Allah
throw him behind
him. Ask Allah
my brothers and my sisters
to make this a beneficial month
where we benefit from the Quran and that
our Ramadan is accepted,
and not to make us from those who
reached the month of Ramadan.
And he ends up just wasting it.
