As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.
Brothers and sisters in Islam, notifications.
Some of us act and behave as though
we were created for our notifications on our
phone.
So if you observe the behavior of people,
they're always consistently reaching out to their phones,
to their watchers, checking notifications that are coming
in.
And I'm not saying that notifications are not
something important.
You may well and truly check your notifications.
But what I am trying to send of
a message in this video is do not
check notifications during times of worship.
The unfortunate thing is when people, for example,
attend Salat al-Jumu'ah and then reach
out to their phones, take it out, and
then they begin to read notifications.
This invalidates the reward of the Jumu'ah.
Not only this, when people are doing their
Umrah or their Hajj and they consistently take
out their phones and they're checking notifications, what
email came to them, what message came to
them, what money came into their account, what
left and so on.
When we're reading Qur'an, it's a time
of worship.
It's inappropriate to take out the phone and
to start playing and checking notifications.
So what I'm saying is when we are
in a state of worship, that time should
be different to times when we are not
engaged in worship.
So when you're reading Qur'an, for example,
don't check notifications.
You already have notifications from Allah Azza wa
Jal.
Every ayah is a notification from Allah Azza
wa Jal.
The heart is connecting with the ayah or
at least try to understand and try to
connect with the ayat and avoid connection with
the phone and its notifications.
When you're making du'a, focus on your
du'a, keep the phone away.
When people finish their Salat today, I've seen
many after Salat reach out to their pocket,
take out the phone and start checking notifications
and messages.
We're still in a state of worship after
a Salat.
After the prayer there is adhkar to say,
adhkar after the prayer, reciting ayatul kursi.
So we need to respect and honor these
times and keep the phone and keep the
notifications away from us.
It's a habit a lot of us have
fallen into but with practice and bringing awareness
to this matter, inshallah we're able to do
better.
And I say to you something, notifications will
never end.
Even when you're dead and you're on the
washing table and you're being washed and shrouded,
you may receive a notification on your phone
from the local pizza shop telling you buy
two pizzas, get one free.
Notifications will never end, they will continue.
So it's not the most important thing, especially
during worship.
Focus on your worship, keep the phone and
the notifications away and you may check that
later.
We ask Allah to accept from us all.
We ask Allah to grant us khushu' in
our worship.
