All praise and thanks belongs to Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala and may the peace and
blessing of Allah be upon His servant and
final messenger Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
As to our followers, respected brothers and sisters
I ask Allah Azawajal that you are all
well and we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala that He forgive our sins and our
shortcomings and that He increase us in knowledge
and wisdom.
Brothers and sisters in Islam, what I wanted
to share with you today is a powerful
hadith that is a dua and it is
most definitely considered a dua that is stronger
than all medicine that is out there.
And this is a hadith that Imam Muslim
rahimahullah, he mentioned in his sahih and it
is a hadith on the authority of Uthman
ibn Abil Aas radiyallahu anhu.
So this companion Uthman ibn Abil Aas radiyallahu
anhu, once he came to the messenger sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam and
He complained to the messenger sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam about an illness, about pain that he
is experiencing in his body.
He even said in another narration
It almost destroyed me.
This pain that he experienced almost caused his
death and killed him.
And he said that he experienced this pain
He experienced this physical pain in his body
from the day he accepted Islam.
And this teaches you and I, my brothers
and sisters that Allah may test us and
test us severely after our tawbah and repentance
and becoming upright.
Some people, they live a life of sin
and rebellion and when they finally make a
tawbah and turn to Allah عز و جل,
Allah عز و جل tests them severely.
And they are very confused.
They say, I was never tested like this
in my days of disbelief and my days
of disobedience.
How come Allah is testing me now when
I've turned back to Him?
Brothers and sisters in Islam, don't be fooled.
This is how Allah عز و جل purifies
a person.
This is how Allah عز و جل cleanses
a person through tests.
And these tests and these trials, especially physical
pains and whatever it is, may appear and
come at any time that Allah عز و
جل has willed.
You may experience them while you're in a
life of disobedience and rebellion far away from
Allah.
And you may experience them the day you
decide to turn to Allah and make a
tawbah.
And they may come afterwards as well.
So, the believer accepts whatever Allah عز و
جل tests him with and he asks Allah
عز و جل to grant him the ability
that he passed this test and he remained
patient.
So this is the situation of Uthman ibn
Abil Aas
He came to the Messenger
وسلم and he said, Ya Rasulullah, I'm experiencing
a serious illness and pain in my body.
It's almost going to kill me.
And I only got this pain the day
after I accepted Islam, Allahu Akbar.
So now the Messenger
is going to teach him a powerful dua.
He said to him,
He said, put your hands on where you
experience the pain in your body.
So put your hand wherever you experience.
In another narration, he said to him, اجعل
Put your right hand on where you're experiencing
the pain in your body.
So now we learn that there are two
narrations, either you put the hand or the
Use your right hand to wipe over this
pain that you are feeling wherever it may
be.
Maybe a headache.
It may be back pain.
It may be something in your leg, something
in your arm, in your wrist.
No matter where the pain is, put your
right hand on that pain.
And then the Prophet
said to him, say
And then afterwards say,
And you say this one seven times.
This is the authentic narration brothers and sisters
in Islam.
So you will put your right hand on
where the pain is.
Let's say the pain is in this finger.
So you'll put your right hand on it
and you will say
Then you will say
And the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said,
as found in other narrations,
And the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said,
so once you've put your right hand on
where the pain is, and you've said بسم
الله three times, and then you've said أعوذ
He said to him, remove your hand, remove
it, then put it again and say أعوذ
And you do this until you reach a
total of seven times, which is an odd
number.
This is the correct way of making use
of this hadith and this powerful dua.
And there are of course certain narrations.
So you may find narrations in where the
Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم would say to
him to say أعوذ بعزة الله وقدرته من
And there is also
And there is also
No problems, whichever one you use, no matter
how the wording is بإذن الله تعالى it
is beneficial and it works.
So what we're saying in this dua is
بسم الله three times.
Of course, the best matters are the matters
in where you begin with the name of
Allah
Afterwards, we say
We are seeking refuge in Allah
in two attributes of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
So basically what we're saying is I seek
refuge in Allah عزة وقدرة.
I seek refuge in Allah might and power
and ability.
From all that I am feeling of pain
and of في وأحاذر.
And this is powerful.
My brothers and sisters in Islam, you are
seeking refuge in Allah عزة وقدرة.
The fact that Allah عز وجل is قادر,
Allah عز وجل is powerful and he is
able to do all things.
The one who can assist you, no matter
what your circumstances are, the one who can
alleviate you from the pain, no matter how
intense and severe this pain is.
Remember, we said that Uthman ibn Abil Aas
is experiencing such a pain that is about
to cause his death and you will see
and find out what Allah عز وجل did
with him.
I seek refuge.
I seek the protection of Allah
more specifically asking Allah through his power and
might and ability من شر ما أجد.
From the evil of what I am experiencing
and the pain and the illness that I
am suffering.
It may be, brothers and sisters, it may
be a physical pain.
It may be an emotional pain.
It may be psychological pain, no matter what
the case is من شر ما أجد.
From the pain and the distress that I
am currently experiencing and then the word و
أحاذر, it refers to what you fee or
expect of misfortune in the future.
So this du'a is powerful.
It covers what you are currently experiencing of
pain and it also covers what you fee
that you would experience of pain and troubles
in the future.
That's what أحاذر, such a beautiful du'a,
subhanallah.
Uthman ibn Abil Aas رضي الله عنه, he
said ففعلت ذلك.
I did exactly what the Messenger
عليه وسلم taught me.
Allah Akbar.
He said I did exactly what the Messenger
صلى الله عليه وسلم taught me and Allah
removed all the pain that was in me.
Subhanallah.
This is due to the blessing, the barakah
of this du'a and calling unto Allah
عز و جل through his attributes.
Subhanallah.
And then Uthman ibn Abil Aas, he said
He said I continued to instruct and teach
my family and others, his friends, to do
the same.
He said and Allah would remove whatever pain
and illness they experienced as well.
So we learn here that it is something
good to teach this du'a to your
family and to teach it to others.
This is what Uthman ibn Abil Aas was
doing.
He didn't hold this good to himself, rather
he taught his family members and his friends
and the other companions and Allah عز و
جل would remove their pain.
Allah Akbar.
Shaykh Abdul Kareem al-Khudair, may Allah عز
و جل preserve him.
He says that this is something that has
been tried and tested and it's well known
among the people whether it's with this exact
wording that we said in the first narration
or other wordings that were found in other
narrations that I explained to you a few
minutes ago.
So he said this is something well known.
Anyone who tested and tried this, it worked.
SubhanAllah.
And the thing here is that this is
considered a form of ruqya.
This du'a and this action of placing
your hand over the pain and reciting this
du'a, this is a form of ruqya.
It's a form of spiritual healing.
And this wasn't specific to Uthman ibn Abil
Aas
Rather, many of the companions would do the
very same thing and Allah عز و جل
would give them the same result of alleviating
their pain and their sickness.
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله he said in
this treatment, in this supplication, in this du
'a, he said there is dhikr Allah, there
is the remembrance of Allah.
There is at-tafweebu ilayh, entrusting Allah with
your matters.
There is also al-ista'adah, seeking protection
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala through his
might and power from the harm of the
pain.
And he, rahimahullah ibn al-Qayyim, he said
all these matters of remembering Allah, entrusting your
matters to Allah, seeking refuge of Allah عز
و جل, these are powerful matters that have
a powerful effect in removing pain and sickness.
La ilaha illallah, brothers and sisters in Islam.
He then said, and its repetition is to
make it more effective because we're repeating this
du'a as we said seven times.
He said the repetition makes it more effective.
Just like the repetition of medicine to expel
harmful material or foreign matter that is in
your body.
You know the medicine, that's how it's taken.
The doctor may say take this medicine three
times a day for seven days.
There is repetition, right?
So the point of the repetition of the
du'a here is so it can have
a greater effect in removing the sickness from
the person's body.
And then ibn al-Qayyim, rahimahullah, he said,
and the number seven has a unique quality
that is not found in any other number.
Subhanallah, what is the secret?
Allahu a'lam.
This is, its knowledge is with Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Finally I mentioned with you something that Sheikh
ibn Uthaymeen, rahimahullah, mentioned.
He said, he said that this du'a
is among the causes of healing, right?
It's a sabab.
It's from the causes of healing.
And then he said, when a person feels
pain, he should place his hand on the
affected area and he should say bismillah three
times.
Then he should say a'udhu bi'izzati
allahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa
uhadhir seven times.
And obviously he places his right hand on
the pain.
And then once he finishes the du'a,
he removes his hand.
Then he places it again and says a
'udhu bi'izzati allahi wa qudratihi min sharri
ma ajidu wa uhadhir until he reaches seven
times.
Ibn Uthaymeen, rahimahullah, he said, if one says
this with certainty and absolute faith and conviction,
believing that it will benefit him by the
permission of Allah, he said, then most definitely
the pain inshallah will subside and will go
away.
Then he said, this is more effective than
physical remedies like tablets that people may take
or medicinal syrups or injections or surgeries or
whatever it is that the people do.
He says, because you are seeking refuge with
the one whose hand lies the dominion of
the heavens and the earth, you are seeking
refuge in the one who brought down this
sickness and decreed it for you.
So he is the only one who can
remove it and protect you from it.
Subhanallah, we ask Allah to grant us goodness,
brothers and sisters in Islam.
And finally, and I conclude with this one
matter, and that is that you may do
this inshallah for people that are sick.
So let's say someone is in the hospital
and he's unable to do this for himself.
You may inshallah do that for someone that
is sick by placing your right hand on
where the sickness is.
If it's all around his body, let's say
someone has cancer or leukemia, we ask Allah
to protect us from these diseases and these
sicknesses and to give shifa to our Muslim
brothers and sisters across the globe.
But you may then put your right hand
on the person's body and then you may
wipe his whole body.
Let's say if the cancer has spread across
his entire body and there's pain in all
of his body, you may do that as
well.
And one very important thing here to reflect
over is that if this sickness a person
is experiencing and Allah Azawajal has not yet
decreed that he will die, then such a
person will live and this sickness will not
cause him any harm.
But if Allah Azawajal has decreed that a
person will die and this sickness will be
the cause of his death, then in this
case, no matter what you read on it,
no matter what dua you make, none of
it will be beneficial in this matter and
a person will die in the same way
Allah Azawajal or in the manner that Allah
Azawajal has decreed.
And this is because Allah Azawajal said, وَلِكُلِّ
Allah Azawajal, he said, when the
time comes for a person to die and
leave this worldly life, they will not be
delayed a single moment, nor will their death
be brought a moment earlier.
So, a person continues to ask Allah Azawajal,
continues to make a dua until the very
last moment in his life, it will be
beneficial for him on the day of judgement
in terms of hasanat and so on, and
al ilmu inda Allah Azawajal, we ask Allah
Azawajal to grant us al shifa, we ask
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to purify our
hearts, to purify our bodies of sickness and
pain, and we ask Him Subhanahu Wa Ta
'ala that He accept from us, وَرَبَّنَا آتِنَا
Brothers and sisters in
Islam, we ask Allah Azawajal to gather us
in the paradise, in the highest levels of
