Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem, Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen.
Wa salli wa sallim ala sayyidil awwalin wal
akhirin nabiyyina Muhammadin, wa ala alihi wa sahbihi
wa barak wa sallim.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of
the worlds, and peace and blessings be constantly
showered upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad, the Master
of the first and the last, and his
family his companions and all those who call
to his way and establish his sunnah to
the Day of Judgement.
As to what follows, As-salamu alaykum wa
rahmatullah, Alhamdulillah this is another evening of our
New Muslim Corner, and with all the different
incidents and chaotic events happening in the world,
it is important for those who are embracing
Islam, those who are interested in Islam, and
those who are reviving their Islam, to be
able to focus through the darkness and chaos
of the world, to be able to focus
on the essence of the faith itself.
And this is based upon the Kalima, and
that is la ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah, salallahu
alayhi wa sallam, that there is none worthy
of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, peace
be upon him, is his Messenger.
That is the basis, that's the beginning of
Islam, that's the beginning of the road, and
hopefully for the believer that's the end of
the road too, because we would all want
to die with this on our lips, to
leave this world with this Kalima.
And this is not just Kalima in the
sense of a word, because in literal Arabic,
the word Kalima from Kalam, it basically means
a word, but this is the word, the
Kalima of Islam.
So it is more than that, it is
the essence of the faith, because in the
beginning, and again we need to constantly review
this foundation, and that is when we are
saying la ilaha illallah, we are saying there
is nothing worthy of worship, of submission, of
fear, ultimate fear, ultimate love, devotion, other than
Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
And that may mean that yes, in this
world, that we have some fear, it's only
natural, you are devoted to certain things, but
this is your divine leader, this is your
divine creator.
So when we say ilah, that is your
God, that is the ultimate character in your
life, and the one who brought you here,
and will be involved in where you go.
So we say la ilaha, and then illallah,
accept Allah.
So Allah is the ultimate deity, and that
is the essence of the road, that is
the essence of Islam, that we are confirming
this, and we are negating everything else, except
the creator.
And there is a famous tradition of the
Prophet peace be upon him, that I want
to go over again, as we continue to
go on, there are people joining us, and
there are certain issues which are really important,
so we'll be reviewing some of them as
we go along.
And this is the famous hadith of Mu
'adh ibn Jabal, radiallahu anhu, Mu'adh ibn
Jabal was one of the companions of the
Prophet peace be upon him, who was very
close to the Messenger.
He was so close, that when the Messenger
would ride his horse or his camel, that
he would allow certain people to ride with
him on the same animal.
So that is like, you have to hold
the person.
Okay, so if you're in that position, then
you're obviously extremely close, today they would even
say you're a security person, for a president
you'd be secret service, I mean somebody to
be that close, means that they're a really
important person.
And Mu'adh was that kind of a
person.
So this tradition he brings himself, and he
says that he was radif, I was riding
behind the Prophet, and again radif means you're
on the same animal, and you're holding onto
him or holding onto something with him.
So I was riding behind the Prophet peace
be upon him, when he said to me,
so it's not behind like you turn and
talk three feet, you just turn your head,
and there is Mu'adh.
He said, oh Mu'adh, do you know
what is due to Allah from his creatures,
and what is due them from Allah.
So this is a really important statement.
He said, do you know what is the
haq, what is the right of Allah on
his creatures, on the creation, what is the
main right?
And, subsequently, what is the main right of
the creation on Allah?
So this is big, because that means, obviously
the creator has a right on you, because
he created you, and created the environment and
everything around you.
But the second part is something serious, because
it means that you could actually have rights
with the creator.
And of course Mu'adh being intelligent and
one of the top companions, he said, he
said Allah and his messenger know best, they're
not going to try to intervene.
So the Prophet continues, and he said what
is due to Allah from his creatures, is
to worship him alone, and never associate anything
with him.
Okay?
So that is the essence of what Allah
wants from us.
It's not a lot of money being paid,
it's not certain clothes that you wear, it's
not coming from a special family, a chosen
people, it's none of this.
That the main duty is to worship the
creator, to have Tawheed, to be worshiping the
creator alone.
And then he continued and said, and what
is due from Allah is that he would
not punish anyone who does not associate partners
with him.
He would not punish them, meaning in this
case, in the hereafter, there would be no
punishment.
That is a right that the person has
on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And that's something really big, because life is
short, and we naturally want to know how
we can best benefit as we're going through
this life and make the transition into the
next life.
Okay, so we naturally want to know.
Okay, now, Mu'adh, not thinking of himself,
he's thinking of the whole jama'ah, his
brothers and sisters.
He said, O messenger of Allah, may I
not then give the glad tidings to the
people?
Okay, can I give them this bushra?
And the prophet replied, no.
Do not reassure them, lest they rely on
the promise and lapse in their duty to
him.
So what this means is, Mu'adh is
saying, okay, you have told me something which
is so important that everybody should know it,
and it should be the main thing that
they actually do.
So shouldn't I tell everybody?
Like, this is special knowledge you just gave
me.
And surprisingly enough, the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam said, don't tell them, because if you
tell them, they'll depend upon this alone, that's
all they're going to do, is to make
sure they only worship Allah and not associate
partners with him.
That's the only thing that they would do
in their life.
And then they would become lazy, or they
would neglect their other duties, because this is
the most important duty.
Why would you think about building a masjid?
Why would you think about calling to the
good and forbidding evil?
Why?
When the most important duty is this sincere
worship of the Creator.
So this was very serious, and Mu'adh
kept this hadith, he kept this tradition to
himself.
He did not tell anybody.
Till his deathbed.
And it is on his deathbed, when he
knew that life was leaving him, and he
had heard other traditions that says, you should
not hide knowledge.
That the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam later
on said, if you have knowledge, don't hide
it.
So he's weighing it, and then he reported
the hadith.
So it came to us, and it shows
us the serious importance of la ilaha illallah.
And we will see that it is deeper
than what you think it is.
It's not just staying away from bowing down
to an idol.
There's a lot of things involved in the
worship of the Creator.
It has something to do with all different
aspects of our life.
You could say it permeates everything that we
do.
And we need to be constantly reviewing this,
to make sure that we're not breaking this.
Because in the background, that's the key.
The second part of the kalima, Muhammadur Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, this is that we
confirm that Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him,
he is the Messenger of Allah, and with
that we negate any other messenger.
So anybody who makes the claim that they
are prophets, that they are messengers, and in
apocalyptic times like the ones that we are
living in now, this is when you get
a lot of these type of claims.
Because people have mental illness and trauma.
Okay, so it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter
how strong they are, it doesn't matter how
famous they are, powerful, that we will never
accept them as the Messenger of Allah, that
the last Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
he is khatim al-anbiya wa mursaleen, he
is the seal of the prophets, he's the
finality.
And there have been those who have come
to say that there was one even in
India, Indo-Pakistani subcontinent, when the British were
ruling, and they supported him to hold down
the Muslims, and he claimed that he was
a righteous person, he was a mujaddid, he
renewed the faith, then he reached the point
where he said he was the Messenger of
Allah.
And of course the Muslims rose up against
this individual, but the individual was supported by
the British government and his teachings began to
spread.
And then he tried to play a trick,
because this is where the details come in.
And he said, okay, you say that Muhammad
is the Messenger of Allah, he has brought
you a message, okay, so if you're a
rasool, somebody comes to your house, the mailman
comes to your house, he is like a
rasool, because the message is risalah.
And basically the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,
he was a messenger, he was not Allah,
he only brought the message.
So this individual then said, okay, Muhammad is
the letter, okay, he is the letter.
Or better still, he said the letter itself,
this is actually what he said, he said
the letters in those days used to be
sealed with gum.
So you have the letter, and then you
put the gum.
And one of the titles given to the
Prophet, peace be upon him, was khatam al
-anbiya, he was khatam, he was the seal
of the Prophets.
So he's not only a messenger, but he
is the seal of the Prophets.
So this false prophet then said, okay, a
letter came to your house, and it has
a seal on it, and Muhammad, he's the
seal, just like he said, but I'm the
letter.
This is how he played on words.
So he is the seal, but he said
I'm the letter.
But that didn't work.
Because Muslims were well grounded in their belief
in the last messenger, having known his life,
and for what he gave, and for what
he did, in all types of circumstances, what
he brought to the Ummah, it is something
which stays with us, and which we rely
on for guidance in certain circumstances.
And this leads us right into where we
are studying in the life of the Prophet,
and we have reached the second part of
his Prophethood, the Medina period.
And we've reached the third year after the
migration.
So we found that Prophet Muhammad, peace be
upon him, spent 13 years in Mecca teaching
the belief in one God.
He taught the belief that there's no difference
between human beings, he broke down color differences,
he broke down class differences, he united the
poor and the rich, and for this he
was punished.
He was insulted.
His followers were tortured, driven out of their
homes.
Finally they were allowed to migrate.
This is important, again, for us to understand
in the world of fake news and lies
and things that go on, that the Prophet,
peace be upon him, who is our example,
for the first 13 years of his life,
although he was attacked, although he was insulted,
he never fought back.
He never fought back.
And this was part of the example of
Islam, that Islam is not always fighting.
Sometimes what Islam is, is endurance.
It's to persevere, and it's to go on
until the right time emerges.
You see, this is part of the lessons
that we get from this era.
And so we found out that right in
the beginning, the Quraysh, the rulers of Mecca,
gathered together the belongings of the Muslims, and
Abu Sufyan, their leader at the time, put
it in a caravan, and he went north.
And he traded in Syria, thousands of dinars
worth of Muslim wealth, and the Prophet, peace
be upon him, and his companions went out
to meet this caravan.
Abu Sufyan found out about this and escaped.
He informed Mecca, and they sent a huge
army, which at that time, a thousand warriors
with three hundred horses, was very big, compared
to the Muslims, who had somewhere between 313
and 317, that was huge.
And they met in a place called Badr,
Allah gave victory to the Muslims.
And this was called Yawmul Furqan, it is
the day of the separation of truth from
falsehood.
Total victory for the believers, it was a
humiliation for the Quraysh and the Mushrikeen.
The Quraysh were so upset, because now somebody
fought them.
You see many of the powers today, they
think that they can hit you all the
time and do what they want, but when
they get struck, it's the end of time.
How can you dare hurt us?
How can you fight back?
You see, this is a devilish mentality, right?
Which didn't start today in the world that
we see, but started from way back.
It's a mentality.
So they were so angry, that some people
said, I'm not going to take a bath
until I get revenge.
So I don't know who he's hurting then,
he's hurting himself and his family, right?
But he said he won't take a bath
until he gets revenge.
They won't do anything, they just gathered their
troops together, they gathered whatever was together, and
they put together a major force, and they
went to the tribes, they went to the
different allies that they had, and they put
together 3,000 warriors.
Now the first battle was 1,000, this
is 3,000, and this is now with
a lot of equipment, horses.
It was, in a sense for them, like
a final solution.
And they made their intention, Muslims had intelligence,
and they found out about this group which
is gathering together.
And the Prophet, peace be upon him, and
his companions, again, this is how he deals.
He took consultation, shura.
Now he's receiving revelation from above seven heavens,
why does he have to go to other
people for their opinions?
No, he doesn't show that kind of leadership.
He shows, it's not like they say vertical
leadership, it's like horizontal, in a sense that
there's more than one decision.
And that's critical, because today, the enemies of
Islam think that if they kill the main
leaders, that the struggle is over, it's not
over.
Because the intelligent Muslims have horizontal leadership, and
that's based on shura.
So it's a shura committee.
So even if the leader, who is their
representative, sometimes he is their spiritual leader and
whatever, but the final decision does not rest
with him.
The final decision rests with shura.
So if the leader is killed, the shura
continues.
It's a very important lesson here.
And some of the Muslims, like Hamza ibn
Abdul Muttalib, the Prophet's uncle, great warrior, he
said, just like we did in Beda, let's
take some believers, let's go out and meet
them.
Face to face.
Let's depend upon Allah.
Other people said, no, let's be strategic now.
We have to start using strategy.
So let's be strategic, because they are coming
with over a thousand horses and all types
of equipment and whatnot, so let's use strategy.
And finally, with the shura, which goes back
and forth, they decided that they wouldn't let
the Quraish come all the way to Medina.
That it would be better to go out
and meet them, but not just face to
face in an open plane.
So they would go to a place which
is surrounding Medina.
This is Mount Uhud.
So this is a huge mountain, it's not
this one actually, I just put a mountain
in there.
But it's a wide based mountain, and it's
sort of like now the outside of Medina.
The Islamic University of Medina is actually just
outside Uhud.
So you can actually see Uhud when you're
going into the city there.
So they said, okay, let's put the mountain
on our back, and then the Quraish is
coming from the south, mountains on our back.
So therefore, you don't have to defend all
the way around.
This is a strategy, and people who fight
even hand to hand combat, sometimes you put
your back to somebody's back, or you put
yourself to a back, now it's easier to
defend.
So nobody can attack you from the back.
So they put Uhud on their back.
And they chose amongst them a thousand fighters
to go out to meet the Quraish.
That included women as well, because the women
generally were like an auxiliary force that was
there to support the main front line fighters.
They could also fight themselves, obviously, because if
the front line goes down, they're right there.
So this auxiliary force is there, and there
was about a thousand.
And they moved towards Uhud.
Now, this is where the struggle continues.
And again, this is an example for us.
And that is that one of the most
dangerous elements for Muslims are the hypocrites, the
munafiqeen.
Because the munafiqeen are Muslims, so to speak,
on the outside.
But on the inside, they hate Islam.
They have this burning desire to do something.
So as they were moving towards Uhud, going
outside the main city center, the hypocrites now,
300 of the hypocrites turned around and went
back.
One third of your force.
Now, for most armies, that's destruction, especially since
they don't depend upon equipment.
You know, your fighting force is a critical
force.
But the hypocrites waited to the time where
it would hurt the most.
Okay, and you'll see that force that we
have to struggle against up until today.
And so, the Muslims were there.
The Prophet ﷺ was actually glad that they
left.
Because really, having hypocrites amongst you is dead
weight.
They could turn on you in the middle
of the battle.
You'd rather have people who are completely with
you than to have people who are working
against you in your ranks.
So they continued on.
Again, this is the image now that is
being given.
Muslims are not this overwhelming force hurting innocent
people.
No.
This was what happened to the Prophet ﷺ
in most of his life.
So they arranged themselves in two rows.
They were now using rows.
Okay, and that's something a little bit different.
But they arranged themselves in rows.
And the Quraysh came and faced them.
Now, on the left side of the battle,
on the left side was a small mountain.
Okay?
There's a major mountain and then on the
left is a small one.
So the Prophet ﷺ put archers on the
small one.
Because if the Quraysh were able to sneak
through that small one, if the Muslims went
forward, away from the mountain, and the Quraysh
came through that small entrance there, they could
actually have them surrounded.
So as long as the archers were there,
then the Quraysh would have to go around
the whole mountain in order to come to
the other side.
And the battles began with hand-to-hand
combat.
And one of the famous Muslims, Abu Dujanah,
the Prophet ﷺ gave him his sword and
he faced the Quraysh in a duel.
This is how in ancient times they started
their battles.
All of this chivalry and all this stuff
is gone now, right?
You can forget this.
But in those days, they had some chivalry.
And after the Muslims won the initial duels,
the battle began.
And by the mercy of Allah ﷻ, the
Muslims, with the heroic fighting of Ali ibn
Abi Talib, Musa ibn Umair, Talha ibn Ubaidullah,
Az-Zubair, these are some of the early
Muslims and others, a lot of energy, a
lot of Allah's help, they pushed the Quraysh
back.
So they pushed them, the Quraysh actually turned
and they started to retreat.
And they pushed them back.
And as the Muslims moved forward, the Quraysh
were running so fast that they left some
of their goods and things in their camp.
So the Muslims now pushed them and they
started to collect even some of the items
of Quraysh, there may have been weapons there
or whatever.
And the archers on the hill, when they
looked at the battlefield, saw the Quraysh running,
saw the Muslims going forward, getting the spoils
of war, they made the wrong decision.
The leader, he stayed on the hill, but
the most of them, they went down from
the hill.
And they said, I want some too.
So they left their position and they went
to meet the back of the Quraysh.
That was a major mistake.
Because amongst the Quraysh at that time was
probably the greatest general in the Arabian Peninsula
who would later become one of the greatest
generals of Islam that was Khalid ibn al
-Walid.
He was on the side of the Mushrikeen.
He had the cavalry.
And when he saw that there was an
opening that he could now go down and
he could turn through the small mountain and
be at the back of the Muslims.
He took the cavalry and they shot down
the one or two that stayed on the
mountain in their post.
And they came and when the Quraysh saw
that Khalid was coming in the back, the
Quraysh turned around.
They turned around and they went back toward
the Muslims.
So the Muslims were literally in a sandwich.
They were in the middle.
This was a major disaster.
And again, this talks about leadership and it
talks about when you do things, you do
it for Allah and not for worldly goods.
So this is one of the big lessons
that turns.
And for the Muslims, they suffered tremendous losses.
And that is a lesson for us.
Even today, as we are suffering tremendous losses.
Okay, this battle of Uhud shows what happened
to the best of humanity.
This is the best of humanity.
So the Quraysh came back with a vengeance.
And Hamza, may Allah be pleased with him,
who was the uncle of the Prophet, peace
be upon him, he had killed some of
the top leaders of Quraysh in the previous
battle.
There was an Ethiopian slave at the time.
He was a slave of Quraysh.
Wahshi was his name.
He was a really good spear thrower.
And he was promised by Quraysh that if
you kill Hamza, you're free.
Okay, so that was the agreement.
And in his mind, all he cared about,
he did not care about the victories or
anything like that.
All he cared about was dealing with Quraysh.
Dealing with Wahshi.
Okay, and so he waited on the side
until Hamza was clear.
And then he threw the spear and it
actually knocked down Hamza.
And Hamza was killed, may Allah be pleased
with him.
This was a tremendous loss for the Muslims.
But it was in the heat of the
battle.
And the Muslims were surrounded.
And it was all types of chaos and
things that were going on.
And so they were pushing the Muslims back.
Okay, it's chaos.
So you could still go back to the
side of the mountain.
So they started to go back to the
mountain of Uhud.
And during this time, the Prophet ﷺ himself
had to go up to the mountain.
They were defending him.
There were certain people, you know, who actually
defended him with their bodies.
And he was wounded himself.
And he was hit in his face.
He lost some of his teeth.
So this is how serious this was.
You talk about your leaders being wounded and
killed.
Look at this.
Okay, so this is an example for us.
And this is part of what Muslims depend
upon in terms of our understanding of ourself.
It's not all victories.
And it's not all loss.
There is a day for you and there
is a day against you.
The key is patience.
It's to persevere through the difficulties.
And so senior companions defended the Prophet ﷺ
be upon him as they moved to defend
themselves on the side of the mountain.
But the pagans then, the Mushrikeen, they even
began to mutilate the bodies of the people.
Now again, this is the best generation.
Remember what the Prophet ﷺ said, خير الناس
قرن ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم The
best of people is my generation.
Then the ones that follow them and the
ones that follow them.
So this is the best of the people.
But they were mutilated.
And so this is the reality.
Because we have this message but we're dealing
with human beings.
And human beings have terrible side amongst them.
And they went right up to the side
of the mountain.
Senior Sahaba were defending the Prophet ﷺ.
Amongst these companions was a Muslim woman whose
name was Nusaybah.
رضي الله عنها Nusaybah Very important name.
So she was amongst the auxiliary force.
But she was a warrior.
She was a great warrior.
And amongst the twelve or so people who
were defending the Prophet ﷺ personally, she was
one of them.
And it is said that the battle got
so confusing that some people amongst the Muslims
they started running away.
And the Prophet ﷺ would even say to
a person, if you seem like they're running
give your sword, give it to Nusaybah.
So for all the macho brothers give it
to Nusaybah, give it to the woman.
And she was defending.
And took about twelve arrows in her back
literally defending the Prophet ﷺ.
This is how serious she was.
And they held off.
The Prophet ﷺ then it seemed like he
was surrounded but the Muslims held on.
They held on and then the Quraysh got
tired and they started to retreat.
They started to retreat.
During this battle there are a number of
acts of heroism.
And again, this is where it's important for
us to understand our history.
Some very interesting stories of people that you
might not hear about in the normal books.
One of them is called Usairim.
Usairim.
And this is a person they said who
entered paradise and he never made Salat.
Think about this now.
We're dealing with new Muslims too.
He entered paradise but he never made Salat.
You ever heard of anything like this before?
He never made Salat.
How is that possible?
Because we have five times Salat, right?
So if one day goes by one of
the Salat's going to hit you.
Okay, but Usairim رضي الله عنه he embraced
Islam and he went straight out to the
battle.
So he embraced Islam made his ghusl bathed
himself went straight to the battle no time
in Salat wasn't a Salat time and he
was martyred, shaheed.
So they said they used to say do
you ever heard of a man who has
entered paradise and he never made Salat.
That's Usairim.
Also, Mukhayrik, one of the Jewish tribes there
were many of the Jewish people who embraced
Islam.
And one of the Mukhayrik he embraced Islam
and he went straight to the battle and
he was martyred as well.
And they used to say Mukhayrik خير اليهود
he's the best of the Jewish people was
Mukhayrik.
Okay, so there was many stories of heroism
in this time.
One of them was Hanzala who was a
great companion and you know he suffered a
lot and he struggled and when it was
time you know for him to be buried
later on after the battle was over and
they were burying the dead and they said
should we wash him and then the Prophet
ﷺ said no because Hanzala he is being
washed by the angels.
Right, you can't see this but he's being
washed by the angels.
Musab ibn Umair you remember the famous Musab
who was the fashion statement in Mecca.
Right, who was the first ambassador of Islam
to Medina.
He was holding the banner of Islam and
I want to go into the gruesome details
but he held on to the banner until
his life was taken, Musab رضي الله عنه
and the Prophet ﷺ said this man is
given so much he had everything in this
world and he gave it to gain eternal
life in Jannah.
So this is Musab ibn Umair رضي الله
عنه.
Of course Nusaybah who was the great companion
Sahabiya Jalila defended the Prophet ﷺ you know
with her body was strong companion and she's
an example that we have to the Day
of Judgment.
So this was a tremendous blow to the
Muslims and after the great victory of Badr
this is the next year right so something
now happened against them.
70 Muslims died and 22 of the Mushrikeen
were killed.
Today that's nothing right but everyday Palestinians are
being bombed and you know 70 of them
being killed every day.
But this was a major loss for the
Muslims at the time.
It's a major loss and the Mushrikeen lost
22 and they went back to their tents
and they tried to decide what we should
do and finally they decided we got victory
Hamza's dead you know we demoralized them this
is it and but they realized they hadn't
killed the Prophet ﷺ he was still alive
but they said this is enough for us.
They had a day, we had a day
okay now all the truces that they had
anything that was going on was now broken
and this again is where when you're in
defeat this is where you'll see where your
real allies are these are all lessons that
Muslims learned up until today the opposition forces
from the Jewish tribes and that's not all
of them but the ones, the opposition ones,
they began to mock against the Muslims, make
joke of the Muslims because they lost and
to continue to conspire against them not for
any logical reason because you would think that
they would be the closest to the Muslims
because of their belief in one God.
They're not Mushrikeen but it's a type of
jealousy which is up until today is coming
out over and over again so they began
to mock and when the Muslims got back
to Medina now just think of their situation,
they're wounded suffering and then the word came
that the Mushrikeen had gathered together in a
place called Hamra al-Asad which is outside
of Medina going toward Mecca they regrouped and
they were considering now to attack Medina since
the Muslims were in a very weakened state
at this point let's attack so the word
came to the prophet peace be upon him
and his companions and to show you the
amount of strength and perseverance that they had
the prophet peace be upon him said I
want we're going to go back against the
Quraish and I want only the people who
were in the battle of Uhud only you
you're going to come with me and it
is said that Nusaybah with all these wounds
on her body was actually trying to come
out of her bed because she wanted to
go they wouldn't let her go okay and
so they this is where in surah Ali
Imran which is the third chapter the Quran
much of it is devoted to this and
there's a lot of inspiring verses in there
and you know part of it is saying
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala revealed what happened
and it said that when the people gathered
together and it was said to the Muslims
a great force has gathered against you so
the Quran says that even though this big
force has gathered against them it increased their
faith and they said and that is that
Allah is sufficient He is the best to
protect and this is an important prayer and
dua, keep it in your mind whenever you're
in a really difficult situation we say you'll
see Palestinians shouting this thing you'll see other
people shout Allah is sufficient He is the
best to protect and so this is where
it comes out and that's the spirit that
you're seeing Muslims exemplify today holding on over
some irresistible forces being unleashed against them that
we see the slaughter going on in Palestine,
in Gaza and now in Lebanon but Muslim
holding on right persevering you mark my words,
you will go back you will see Palestinians
maybe some Lebanese if we get that especially
Palestinians you'll see them saying that's the first
thing that comes out of their mouths this
is where it comes from the Quraysh had
to make a decision should we go forward
or should we go back then they decided
we will go back and the Prophet ﷺ
and his companions then went to Hamra al
-Asad to face them and they camped in
Hamra al-Asad and stayed for three days
just think about this you're wounded, tired, they
stayed waiting for Quraysh to come back that's
perseverance that's our sunnah that's our way and
that inshallah is what we will be seeing
coming out of the true Muslims now when
this battle is getting really hot you're going
to see some of the spirit so from
this battle of Uhud there are many different
lessons, before we go to the lessons I
want to see are there any questions that
anybody has concerning the battle itself floor is
open for any questions this is the battle
of Uhud yeah yes so the ones on
the mountains they were killed because there was
only a few and Khalid was there he
had his cavalry and major mistake major mistake
go ahead the battle in contrast to Prophet
Jesus who did not partake in any battles
how does one respond to these queries as
both had different circumstances in the Prophethood again
this is the wrong image of Isa Alayhi
Salaam that is projected but Isa was following
the law of Moses and even in the
Bible itself I don't have the verses itself
but in the Bible itself Jesus said to
his followers that you should sell your goods
and buy swords it's as he said buy
swords he was not against fighting back this
is a total wrong image of Isa Alayhi
Salaam okay because you know he had the
right according to the Torah you know to
fight back so that this is a this
is part of the image that they try
to project for Jesus although the so called
Christian nations which Christians actually followed this let's
go back to the crusades right remember the
crusaders go back to even world wars go
back look at them Ku Klux Klan the
Ku Klux Klan in the south that used
to burn black people Afro-Americans alive what
did they burn them on a cross so
where's Jesus right he burned people alive on
a cross so no this is the wrong
image of Isa Alayhi Salaam and we say
to them this is not actually what he
did he even told his followers that they
should they should defend themselves they should equip
themselves now any other points from the battle
of Uhud any questions concerning this this for
some is considered to be a defeat however
it's not because when you are down if
you're strong at that point that actually strengthens
you and part of our personality you know
is strength even in weakness is strength in
defeat right and that is something Muslims you
know are learning today to hold the line
hold the line now from this battle itself
there are a number of lessons one is
that in terms of our leadership that when
you have a leader and Amir in your
group whatever it is you may even be
in a demonstration you know and you know
your leader is there and you know a
group of skinheads or you know whatever come
on the side you know right wingers and
you say okay I'm going to fight them
and the leader said that's not our strategic
move go to the right right don't think
you're a hero because you're going to fight
against the proud boys yourself you're not a
hero you're breaking the discipline you're breaking leadership
and that's very important and it starts even
on the level of a demonstration that there
has to be discipline okay there has to
be order and this is very critical for
Muslims at this point in time because people
will get over emotional about things and they
will do things without thinking what they're doing
so sometimes strategy means you're taking pain you're
taking pain and waiting for the right time
and then you strike also trials and tests
are purification it's a purification and it develops
humility for those who think they're arrogant right
so when you have a trial and a
test it can actually strengthen you and it's
a purification the pain that we suffer in
this world especially Shaheed the ones who die
Shaheed for every drop of blood that is
spilled they are gaining eternal bliss in the
hereafter okay next apparent defeat it exposes hypocrites
and evil elements when you seem like you're
down then you'll see who's really with you
or who's not this is an important thing
and you'll see that now that comes out
when Muslims appear to be down appear so
these are some of the lessons that we
get from Uhud I want to open up
the floor any lessons that anybody has in
their mind that you get out of this
or any questions concerning the battle of Uhud
floor is open for any general questions anything
else came online question this
battle took place in Uhud which is a
mountain outside of Medina right now the Islamic
University is just in back of it so
it's considered to be sort of like the
the limits of Medina yeah
yeah with the battle we see 70 Muslims
were died and so they buried them on
the spot right on the side of the
mountain now they've blocked it off and made
a place for the shuhada but originally this
is where they were buried and the shaheed
does not need to have a ghusl you
don't need to have they don't even need
to have janazah prayer because the ghusl and
the prayer is done by the angels you
know for the definite shaheeds and Hamza is
buried there and Musa bin Umair you know
very humble place and when you visit Uhud
you will see the place of the shuhada
which is still there where
it doesn't seem like they are following the
faith in many ways it's still the responsibility
of the people living there to obey this
is a deep question because it's even used
by some people in the Muslim world who
don't want to fight back and they use
it as an excuse because the prophet did
say you're supposed to follow your emirs you
are there's hadiths about that and this is
one of the things that shows that and
this question was put to one of the
great scholars in the Muslim world today Sheikh
Muhammad Al Hasan Al Didu who is from
Mauritania and he is considered to be one
of the most eminent scholars in the whole
Muslim world today and they actually had him
online and they asked him this question because
this is serious in the Arab world Muslim
world some scholars are saying follow your leaders
all the way through follow the emirs and
his answer was that do our leaders qualify
as emir number one because the emir is
somebody who is following Allah so the emir
is your legitimate leader you see that's the
emir and I remember the same thing came
and he used a similar proof one of
the great scholars that I studied Sheikh Othman
Danfodio there's a hadith of the prophet and
it says you don't obey the creation when
the creation disobeys Allah and you remember Sidi
Ahmed Zarouk and I brought this in one
of the other classes that he brought the
same verse, the same hadith that you obey
your emirs as long as they obey Allah
so Sheikh Mohammed his answer was these clowns
who are in position in the Muslim world
are not emirs because they're not obeying Allah
if they were obeying Allah then you would
not see interest and usury banks inside of
their countries, you would not see alcohol, you
would not see nightclubs, you would not see
raves going on I'm talking about, you know
who I'm talking about as well how can
an emir allow this this is not an
emir okay this is a phony who's standing
in the position, so therefore all of those
hadiths his answer was, and I'm not a
faqih he's a faqih, he said those hadiths
are invalid, they do not apply so there
is no obedience to any of the leaders
at this point in time unless they obey
Allah and if they obey Allah to be
honest, they're supposed to come to the assistance
of the people who are dying now you
cannot be a muslim emir and have the
ability to save people and you don't save
you know there's a famous hadith that if
you see evil change it with your hands
if you can't say something if you can't
feel it in your heart that is the
lowest form of faith when the scholars analyze
this hadith the first is yadi your hand,
power if you see evil change it with
your hand, if you have the power to
change it change it what the scholars say
is that if a person has the power
to change it like a leader who has
an army then the second part you know,
say something doesn't apply to you you can't
go to the second or third part because
you have the power to do this so
it is incumbent it is fard wajib it's
compulsory on the muslims, and this has come
out of the leadership of the ulema it
is compulsory on the muslims to come to
the assistance of Marshal Aqsa it's compulsory there's
no longer a discussion in this so all
of those hadith don't apply this is where
your hypocrites are going to show themselves you're
going to see the hypocrites come out and
you're going to see some people even turn
against you who you thought was on your
side and or if the person is not
a hypocrite their heart is filled with fear
and the fear comes out so they try
not to be involved in the situation so
this is a very critical time and a
lot of things start coming to the surface
and as we move towards the day of
resurrection it's going to get clearer and clearer
and clearer we are moving rapidly now toward
resurrection qiyamah it's going to get clear floor
is open for any questions any general questions
even the Quran itself is saying that you
should obey your parents you must love your
parents except if they turn you against Allah
so you should still listen to your parents
but if they tell you to do things
against Islam you don't follow you go to
your mother's house and you're eating and the
food is okay and she says son can
you eat the broccoli and you don't like
broccoli you don't like greens okay then you
can't say no you're not a Muslim so
I'm not eating broccoli no even out of
kindness you might eat it because she's still
your mother even though she's not a Muslim
but anything that goes against Islam no obedience
and any leader who stands up and says
he's a leader of Muslims and he's telling
you to do opposite I don't care how
long his beard is how high his hat
is forget it he's a joker okay all
of this is going to come clear as
the days and months continue now any other
general questions that anybody has yeah I have
one yes the Shaheed could be someone who
dies in battle it could be a Muslim
who is drowned it could be somebody who
is a woman who dies in childbirth if
something like a building or something falls down
upon them there's a number of categories of
Shaheed but the most famous is somebody who
dies in the battle like a brother or
sister just got killed in a murder or
something would that be considered as a Shaheed
it could be it could be Shaheed we
have to see what the circumstances were surrounding
it because not like they were fighting a
battle they just like an accident not necessarily
because this is a special category this is
not an easy category yeah if they were
defending somebody then you could say yes but
otherwise people die in many ways they could
be forgiven by Allah but Shaheed is a
special it's a special category so inshallah we
will continue on next week with looking at
the Seerah and it's interesting how our Seerah
you see it it actually sheds light on
things that are happening around us today this
is why it's important to constantly go through
the Seerah right and reflect upon what is
happening in the world today so I leave
you with these thoughts and I ask Allah
to have mercy on me and you وآخر
دعوان الحمد لله ورب العالمين والسلام عليكم ورحمة
