As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
As-salāmu ʿalaykum
wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The Prophet
ﷺ tells us of an event that will
occur on the Day of Judgment in which
three categories of people will be brought forth
first to be judged and to be held
accountable.
So the first category is the person who
fought for the sake of Allah and Allah
will ask him, Allah will remind him Did
you receive these blessings?
Did you receive these blessings from me?
After being reminded of receiving
these blessings, the man will acknowledge that he
received these blessings Then Allah will say to
this person, Why did you fight for my
sake?
He said, Why did you fight for?
What did you fight for?
He said, قَاتَلْتُ فِيكَ I fought for your
sake, O Allah.
And Allah says, كَذَبْتْ You have lied.
I want you to think about the gravity
of these words.
Allah will say to a person, You have
lied.
Rather you fought to be
remembered as brave, courageous.
And he will be dragged on his face.
Dragged on his face.
And then thrown into Jahannam.
The second category, The one who recites the
Qur'an, the scholar.
And Allah will remind him, Did you not
receive these blessings?
And he would say, Yes, I received them.
He said, And why did you read?
He said, I read for you, for your
sake.
And then Allah will say,
You have lied.
But you wanted people to say and describe
you as a reciter.
An amazing reciter.
And the last category is the philanthropist.
The one who donates.
And Allah will remind him of the blessings
that he received.
And he will acknowledge them.
And then he will ask him, And why
did you give?
He says, I gave in every way possible
for your sake.
Allah will say, كَذَبْتْ You have lied.
You have lied, but rather
you wanted people to remember you.
To say about you that you are generous.
And he will be dragged on his face.
All three of these categories of people dragged
on their face.
And thrown into the pits of *.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala protect us.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make us
among the sincere people.
Allah tells us in the Qur'an about
the importance of having ikhlas.
We have not been commanded except that you
worship Allah sincerely for His sake.
The Prophet ﷺ tells us,
Allah does not look at your appearances.
يعني the way how you were created.
Allah doesn't judge you by your appearance.
But He judges you by your heart.
And then the Prophet ﷺ pointed to his
chest.
And then he says, and your actions.
So being sincere is not just simply say,
I love Allah in my heart, but you
don't follow up with action.
It is both.
To be sincere to Allah and to prove
yourself through your actions.
Not being sincere, brothers and
sisters, is a disease of the heart.
It is such a nefarious and evil sin
that is so hidden.
And the Prophet ﷺ described the sin as
arya' to show off.
And the scholars have described it, and the
Prophet ﷺ has described it first and foremost.
The Prophet ﷺ described it as shirkul khafi,
shirkul asghar, small shirk.
It doesn't take you out of the fold
of Islam, but it is small shirk.
Because you are doing it either for the
sake of Allah as well as for some
other sake.
Or you're not doing it for Allah's sake
at all.
And the Prophet ﷺ he described it as
so hidden like a black ant crawling on
a black stone on a night in which
there is no moonlight.
That is how hidden the sin of arya'
is of showing off and not doing it
for the sake of Allah.
So brothers and sisters, what are some of
the steps that we can adopt to protect
ourselves from arya' from showing off?
What are some of the steps that we
can do to make ourselves more sincere for
the sake of Allah?
Number one, doing your actions privately.
If you can do something private without anyone
seeing it, then do it.
It doesn't mean that you're not allowed to
do something in public.
It just means the chances of your heart
being tested is much greater when it is
in public.
The Prophet ﷺ tells us of one of
the categories of the people who will be
shaded on the day of judgment is the
one who donates with his right hand and
his left hand doesn't know it.
It's an allegory here to show you how
sincere this person is.
Some of the scholars of the past, they
used to hide their actions from people.
For example, if they were fasting many many
days, extra fast, nawafil fast, they used to
moisten their lips so that people would not
know that their lips were chapped from the
amount of fasting that they were doing.
That's how much ikhlas they had.
Another way to become more sincere, brothers and
sisters, is to always question yourself thinking, maybe
Allah has not accepted my good deed.
It doesn't mean that if you pray dhuhr
and you are afraid that Allah doesn't accept
your deed that you pray dhuhr five more
times.
No, because you can only do the faridah
once.
But you are never smug about it.
You are never like some of the Christians
when they say, I am redeemed because I
believe in Jesus Christ, etc, etc.
Because that's the modus operandi that they go
off by.
I can do anything, as long as I
believe in Jesus Christ, etc, etc, then I'm
delivered, I'm guaranteed jannah.
You are not guaranteed jannah.
The Prophet ﷺ, he said about himself, and
he is the best of people, he said,
none of you will enter jannah by your
deeds alone.
And the companion said, messenger of Allah, and
not even you.
Oh messenger of Allah, not even you.
He said, yes, not even me, unless Allah
envelops me with His mercy.
Abu Bakr radiallahu anhu, he said, I would
not feel at ease if one of my
feet is in jannah and the other foot
is outside of jannah.
I would not be at ease until both
of my feet are inside jannah.
And we know Abu Bakr as the companion
with whom the Prophet ﷺ gave him the
glad tidings of being called from all the
doors of jannah.
Finally, brothers and sisters, it is important to
ignore what people say.
And the scholars they said, you will not
be truly sincere until your intentions do not
change or fluctuate or flutter, regardless if someone
is praising you or if someone is criticizing
you unfairly.

Allahumma ansur ikhwanana al-mustada'afina fi ghazza,

wa fi kulli makanin.
