00:00:00 -->
00:00:02
In every generation, there are people who have
00:00:02 -->
00:00:04
to make the ultimate sacrifice.
00:00:04 -->
00:00:06
We have hundreds of thousands of our brothers
00:00:06 -->
00:00:09
and sisters today in Gaza, who are making
00:00:09 -->
00:00:12
that sacrifice, whose lives are being taken from
00:00:12 -->
00:00:15
them, who are being killed and murdered and
00:00:15 -->
00:00:16
massacred.
00:00:16 -->
00:00:18
But this is not a new tradition.
00:00:18 -->
00:00:20
This story is as old as the ummah
00:00:20 -->
00:00:21
itself.
00:00:21 -->
00:00:23
And inshallah, in this series, we're going to
00:00:23 -->
00:00:27
be talking about the marchers from the time
00:00:27 -->
00:00:30
and the life of the Prophet ﷺ as
00:00:30 -->
00:00:32
a source of comfort and inspiration.
00:00:41 -->
00:00:43
One of the most beloved people in the
00:00:43 -->
00:00:48
entire world to the Prophet ﷺ personally was
00:00:48 -->
00:00:54
Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib r.a. Hamza r
00:00:54 -->
00:01:00
.a. had a very fascinating relationship with the
00:01:00 -->
00:01:01
Prophet ﷺ.
00:01:01 -->
00:01:08
First of all, Hamza r.a. was technically
00:01:08 -->
00:01:10
the uncle of the Prophet ﷺ.
00:01:11 -->
00:01:15
Hamza r.a. was the brother of the
00:01:15 -->
00:01:17
father of the Prophet ﷺ.
00:01:19 -->
00:01:25
Number two, Hamza r.a. whose mother was
00:01:25 -->
00:01:27
the first cousin of the mother of the
00:01:27 -->
00:01:28
Prophet ﷺ.
00:01:29 -->
00:01:32
So they were second cousins through their mothers.
00:01:33 -->
00:01:37
Thirdly, Hamza r.a. was only two years
00:01:37 -->
00:01:38
older than the Prophet ﷺ.
00:01:39 -->
00:01:41
And because of that, they had been nursed
00:01:41 -->
00:01:44
by the same nanny.
00:01:45 -->
00:01:48
And so they were actually foster brothers, rada
00:01:48 -->
00:01:48
'i brothers.
00:01:50 -->
00:01:52
And being only two years apart growing up,
00:01:53 -->
00:01:57
their relationship was definitely of that of brothers.
00:01:57 -->
00:02:01
Hamza r.a. was the big brother the
00:02:01 -->
00:02:03
Prophet ﷺ never had.
00:02:03 -->
00:02:06
And he always looked after him, looked out
00:02:06 -->
00:02:08
for him, always had his arm around his
00:02:08 -->
00:02:08
shoulder.
00:02:09 -->
00:02:12
And so he was very extremely beloved to
00:02:12 -->
00:02:13
the Prophet ﷺ.
00:02:16 -->
00:02:18
Even the story of how Hamza r.a.
00:02:18 -->
00:02:20
becomes Muslim is very interesting.
00:02:21 -->
00:02:23
I won't go into all the details here,
00:02:23 -->
00:02:27
but Hamza r.a. became Muslim in a
00:02:27 -->
00:02:31
moment where he was defending the honor of
00:02:31 -->
00:02:32
the Prophet ﷺ.
00:02:32 -->
00:02:34
He came back from one of his legendary
00:02:34 -->
00:02:35
hunting trips.
00:02:35 -->
00:02:37
And someone told him that Abu Jahl had
00:02:37 -->
00:02:40
disrespected the Prophet ﷺ publicly.
00:02:40 -->
00:02:42
So he went into the Ka'bah, the
00:02:42 -->
00:02:44
Masjid al-Haram near the Ka'bah.
00:02:44 -->
00:02:47
And he hit Abu Jahl on the head
00:02:47 -->
00:02:49
and stood up to all the people there.
00:02:49 -->
00:02:52
And he said, you people keep disrespecting Muhammad
00:02:52 -->
00:02:55
ﷺ while I believe in him.
00:02:55 -->
00:02:57
And I accept his message.
00:02:58 -->
00:03:01
And so even the moment in which he
00:03:01 -->
00:03:04
accepts Islam, and then he had a follow
00:03:04 -->
00:03:05
-up conversation with the Prophet ﷺ.
00:03:06 -->
00:03:09
But I wanted to mention very specifically that
00:03:09 -->
00:03:11
it was in a moment where he was
00:03:11 -->
00:03:14
offended on behalf of the Prophet ﷺ.
00:03:14 -->
00:03:17
And he was defending the Prophet ﷺ.
00:03:18 -->
00:03:23
Hamza r.a. was the very first flag
00:03:23 -->
00:03:26
that was ever carried by a soldier of
00:03:26 -->
00:03:30
Islam in the way of Allah in jihad
00:03:30 -->
00:03:38
was Hamza r.a. That it was the
00:03:38 -->
00:03:43
very first flag the Prophet ﷺ ever gave
00:03:43 -->
00:03:46
to anyone for the battlefield was he gave
00:03:46 -->
00:03:48
it to Hamza r.a. On the day
00:03:48 -->
00:03:51
of Badr, on the day of Uhud, Hamza
00:03:51 -->
00:03:54
r.a. fought valiantly in the battlefield.
00:03:55 -->
00:03:57
And the narration mentions he would fight with
00:03:57 -->
00:03:58
two swords.
00:03:59 -->
00:04:00
He was ambidextrous.
00:04:00 -->
00:04:01
He would have a sword in each hand.
00:04:02 -->
00:04:04
And he was like a human buzzsaw.
00:04:04 -->
00:04:06
He would tear through the enemy.
00:04:06 -->
00:04:09
On the day of Uhud, the day that
00:04:09 -->
00:04:14
Hamza r.a. would be martyred, where he
00:04:14 -->
00:04:16
would give his life for Allah.
00:04:17 -->
00:04:21
Before he fell, he had taken out 31
00:04:21 -->
00:04:24
people from the enemy side.
00:04:24 -->
00:04:27
That is how courageous and valiant he was.
00:04:29 -->
00:04:32
And when that moment finally came, the day
00:04:32 -->
00:04:34
of Uhud, in the month of Shawwal, in
00:04:34 -->
00:04:36
the third year of Hijrah, when Hamza r
00:04:36 -->
00:04:42
.a. was 57 years old, his life was
00:04:42 -->
00:04:44
taken and he fell in the battlefield of
00:04:44 -->
00:04:45
Uhud.
00:04:47 -->
00:04:52
And it was one of the most painful
00:04:52 -->
00:04:55
days of the life of the Prophet ﷺ.
00:04:57 -->
00:05:01
You know, whenever we hear about people dying,
00:05:01 -->
00:05:04
people being killed, like our brothers and sisters
00:05:04 -->
00:05:09
in Gaza and beyond, it's very important to
00:05:09 -->
00:05:11
remember that this was someone's mother, someone's father,
00:05:11 -->
00:05:14
someone's brother, someone's sister, someone's son, someone's daughter,
00:05:15 -->
00:05:18
someone's uncle, someone's nephew, niece, aunt, etc.
00:05:19 -->
00:05:21
It's very important to remember that.
00:05:22 -->
00:05:28
Because the brother, the cousin, the nephew, the
00:05:28 -->
00:05:32
best friend of Hamza r.a. who is
00:05:32 -->
00:05:37
none other than Muhammad Rasulullah ﷺ.
00:05:38 -->
00:05:40
And he grieved that day.
00:05:41 -->
00:05:46
He said, لن أصاب بمثلك أبدا ما وقفت
00:05:46 -->
00:05:54
موقفا قدت أغيض إلي من هذه The Prophet
00:05:54 -->
00:05:57
ﷺ, he said that, I will never be
00:05:57 -->
00:06:01
tested with anything greater than the loss of
00:06:01 -->
00:06:02
you, O Hamza.
00:06:03 -->
00:06:06
And the Prophet ﷺ said that, I have
00:06:06 -->
00:06:11
never stood at a place that is more
00:06:11 -->
00:06:16
disliked to me, أغيض إلي من هذا that
00:06:16 -->
00:06:18
is more disliked to me than this place
00:06:18 -->
00:06:19
where I'm standing.
00:06:20 -->
00:06:22
When he was standing over the dead body,
00:06:23 -->
00:06:26
the mutilated body of Hamza r.a. He
00:06:26 -->
00:06:28
said, this is the toughest moment of my
00:06:28 -->
00:06:29
life.
00:06:30 -->
00:06:34
The Prophet ﷺ said that Jibreel, the Archangel
00:06:34 -->
00:06:37
Jibreel, he came to me to comfort me.
00:06:37 -->
00:06:41
And he said, مكتوب في أهل السماوات السبع
00:06:41 -->
00:06:44
It is inscribed upon the heavens.
00:06:45 -->
00:06:49
حمزة بن عبد المطلب أسد الله وأسد رسوله
00:06:49 -->
00:06:51
That Hamza is the Lion of God.
00:06:52 -->
00:06:53
And he is the Lion of the Messenger
00:06:53 -->
00:06:54
of God.
00:06:55 -->
00:06:57
The Prophet ﷺ, when he stood at the
00:06:57 -->
00:07:00
grave of Hamza r.a, he said, رحمك
00:07:00 -->
00:07:02
الله May God have mercy upon you.
00:07:03 -->
00:07:05
أي عمي My dear beloved uncle.
00:07:06 -->
00:07:10
فَلَقَدَ كُنتَ وَصُولًا لِلْرَّحْمِ You were good to
00:07:10 -->
00:07:10
me.
00:07:11 -->
00:07:13
You were always good to your family.
00:07:13 -->
00:07:14
You were good to me.
00:07:15 -->
00:07:18
فَعُولًا لِلْخَيْرَاتِ And you led by example.
00:07:18 -->
00:07:19
You always did good.
00:07:20 -->
00:07:24
Even when they reached back to Medina, and
00:07:24 -->
00:07:27
more than 70 Muslims had fallen on the
00:07:27 -->
00:07:27
day of Uhud.
00:07:28 -->
00:07:29
And there were this, you could hear the
00:07:29 -->
00:07:30
sounds of crying.
00:07:31 -->
00:07:32
Every home was mourning.
00:07:32 -->
00:07:35
The Prophet ﷺ became very sad.
00:07:36 -->
00:07:39
And he said, لَكِنْ حَمْزَةٌ لَا بَوَاكِيَ لَهُ
00:07:39 -->
00:07:43
But Hamza, my Hamza, no one cries for
00:07:43 -->
00:07:44
him today.
00:07:46 -->
00:07:48
And this was a very heavy loss on
00:07:48 -->
00:07:49
the Prophet ﷺ.
00:07:50 -->
00:07:54
Somewhat so that the Prophet ﷺ, for the
00:07:54 -->
00:07:57
rest of his life, he had a regular
00:07:57 -->
00:08:00
practice of going there to Uhud.
00:08:00 -->
00:08:02
And where Hamza was buried.
00:08:03 -->
00:08:05
And to remember Hamza.
00:08:06 -->
00:08:09
Even the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, Fatima
00:08:09 -->
00:08:12
رضي الله تعالى عنها Every week, she would
00:08:12 -->
00:08:16
go to Uhud to pay her respects to
00:08:16 -->
00:08:17
Hamza رضي الله تعالى عنه.
00:08:18 -->
00:08:22
And this was the pain of the Prophet
00:08:22 -->
00:08:25
ﷺ at the loss of someone so near
00:08:25 -->
00:08:26
and so dear to him.
00:08:27 -->
00:08:30
But he was comforted by the fact that
00:08:30 -->
00:08:32
they would be reunited in Paradise.
00:08:33 -->
00:08:36
The Prophet ﷺ He will be the leader
00:08:36 -->
00:08:38
of all the martyrs in Paradise.
00:08:39 -->
00:08:42
We pray that all of the Muslims who
00:08:42 -->
00:08:44
have been martyred, who have been killed, may
00:08:44 -->
00:08:46
Allah ﷻ reunite them with their loved ones
00:08:46 -->
00:08:48
in Jannat al-Firdaws al-'Ala.
00:08:49 -->
00:08:50
Ameen, Ya Rabb al-'Alami.
