AI: Summary ©
to us about eight specific things.
And these are amongst the most obvious, the
most apparent, the most glaring of the signs
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's greatness of
his presence of his oneness of and of
his greatness.
And here Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says
that I'm that we are not telling you
we are not being told to just blindly
believe and accept.
But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala points out
to us eight things in our environment around
us, in the world around us, that by
reflecting on these eight things it will lead
you to understand and to realize that he
is indeed the only one worthy of your
worship.
And he is the only one who is
God and the only one that you should
submit to.
And before we even get started with the
discussion, going deeper into the verses, there's a
very powerful statement that one of the great
scholars of the past Al-Abhuri, he mentions,
فِي بِحَارِ مَخْلُوقَاتِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى that the more
someone actually observes and soaks in and reflects
upon how magnificent Allah's creation is, كَانَ أَكْثَرَ
عِلْمًا بِجَلَالِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَعَظْمَتِهِ the more that
person becomes confirmed and knowledgeable about how truly
majestic and magnificent and mighty and powerful Allah
is.
That reflecting on all the signs of Allah
around us actually deepens and confirms our faith
in Allah سبحانه وتعالى, our belief in Allah.
These verses, the circumstances of the revelation of
these verses are also very interesting.
When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم arrived
in المدينة المنورة and the verse was initially
revealed, وَإِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ your Lord, your God
is only one God, right?
Countering the shirk that was predominant in that
land.
the only one worthy of your worship and
He is compassionate and merciful.
Many of the mushrik people, the people who
had only up to this point known about
the worshipping of idols, that's what their parents
did, that's what their grandparents generation did, that
was what their ancestors did, that's what their
forefathers did.
Now when they heard this, that there's only
one God and He's the only one worthy
of your worship, they said كيف يسع الناس
How is one God sufficient for
all of humanity?
That sounds like a silly question but they
were simple people and so they said well
how is one God sufficient enough for all
of humanity?
And so Allah سبحانه وتعالى revealed the subsequent
verse in verse number 164 that look at
the whole world around you and there's one
God that is responsible for that entire world.
Similarly there's another very interesting narration that the
mushrikun, the people who were idolaters, polytheists, they
worship all these different gods and idols, they
went to the Jews and they said حَدِّثُونَ
What were
some of the signs that Moses came to
you with?
And so they said
They told him about the miracles of Moses.
He had a staff that turned into a
snake and his hand would glow and radiate.
Then they went to the
Christians and they said, well, what about you?
And so they said that, well, Jesus
He would cure the blind and
the leper and he would bring the dead
to life.
So at that time, the مشركون, then they
said to the Prophet
They went to the
Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and they said
that, pray to God that he turns the
mountains into gold فَنَزْدَادُوا يَقِينًا and then we
will have conviction about what you're saying and
we will be able to dominate and overpower
our enemies فَسَأَلَ رَبَّهُ ذَلِكَ The Prophet صلى
الله عليه وسلم made dua to Allah that,
O Allah, this is what the people are
أَحَدًا مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ Allah سبحانه وتعالى said, I
will give that to them, they make demands,
I will fulfill their demands But then if
they don't believe, then if they subsequently reject,
then I will punish them, they will face
my wrath unlike anything that anyone has ever
dealt with And when the Prophet صلى الله
عليه وسلم heard this, the mercy, the compassion
of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, the
wisdom of the Prophet
He said, ذَمْنِي وَقَوْمِي Oh Allah, let me
deal with these people And
I will work on them slowly but surely
Because if their demands are fulfilled, and then
they still don't believe, that will result in
their doom, their annihilation I would rather have
the time to slowly work on them day
by day and try to win them over
and bring them over And then Allah سبحانه
وتعالى revealed these verses to basically say that
they say that they need the mountain to
turn into gold in order to believe Rather
what they can simply do is they can
just walk outside and they can look at
this remarkable world that Allah has created And
they can reflect on the world around them
and that will be more than enough to
bring them to that point of faith and
belief Now let's go into the verses to
kind of dig a little bit deeper about
what Allah سبحانه وتعالى says here First and
There's a very fascinating observation that the scholars
of the Qur'an they make When Allah
talks about himself he says وَإِلَهُكُمْ He's your
lord, he's your god whether you realize it
or not He's the one who created you,
he's the one who sustains you, he's the
one who provides for you, he's feeding you,
he's clothing you, he's taking care of you
You're the one who's in denial, whether you
realize it or not Allah has been blessing
you up until this particular point وَإِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهُ
And he's only one And even when
Allah سبحانه وتعالى talks about himself being one
it's not just about the oneness it's also
about uniqueness There's no one like him لَيْسَكَ
There's nothing that resembles him, there's
no one like him, he's unique in all
aspects And then Allah says
So what is your job and what
is your responsibility?
That you worship no one other than him
And then the introduction that
Allah سبحانه وتعالى gives to us of him
is the fact that he is merciful and
compassionate Even when we start reciting the Qur
Constantly emphasizing, Allah
emphasizes his mercy And this is again to
motivate us but also to remind us Because
as human beings Allah describes a human being
as a very hasty, a very nervous creature
nervous, anxious, spoiled creature And so we tend
to focus on the negative We tend to
focus on what's wrong And so Allah سبحانه
وتعالى reminds us constantly about Think about, focus
on, reflect upon what's right Look at all
the mercy of Allah that you enjoy And
that's a very beautiful reflection that one of
the scholars of Tafsir they mentioned فَإِنَّ كُلَّ
Everything,
Allah is the merciful, the compassionate, the bestower
of blessings And everything else in existence is
either a blessing or is someone who is
blessed Everything else Think about anything or anyone
And everything else is either a blessing or
someone that is blessed And so how can
you not understand, how can you not grasp
and appreciate How merciful, how compassionate, how kind
and generous Allah سبحانه وتعالى is And so
then why are you at odds?
Why are you not embracing your faith in
Allah
From here now, in the next verse, Allah
سبحانه وتعالى points out eight things to reflect
Indeed in the
creation of the heavens Allah draws our attention
to what's above us And this is something
that Allah سبحانه وتعالى talks about throughout the
He's the
one who made the sun a source of
such brilliance and radiance وَالْقَمْرَ نُورًا And a
moon the source of illumination وَقَدَّرَهُ مَنَازِلَ And
He created them to go through certain cycles
and changes and stages
So you can keep track of time and
years and months and days
He is the one who made for you
the stars So that you can find your
way through the darkness While you travel through
land or by sea When Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala talks about والأرض And then Allah
talks to us about the creation of the
earth And when Allah speaks about the creation
Going back just for a moment When Allah
speaks about the sky
Do they not look up at the
sky above their heads كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَاهَا How we
created it, constructed it وَزَيَّنَّهَا And how we
And there's
no imperfection therein There's no gaps There's nothing
that seems incomplete Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
When drawing our attention to reflect upon the
He created
the sky hanging above your head Without any
pillars that are holding it up الَّذِي خَلَقَ
He created the sky in
all these different layers and stages مَا تَرَى
There are no
gaps or flaws that you can observe within
it فَرْجِعِ الْبَصَرَى Look back again هَلْ تَرَى
Do you see any gaps ثُمَّ
Then look back again and
You'll
come back to realize that the flaw is
only within you And you'll be humbled and
regretful for your defiance And your disobedience and
We have beautified the sky And illuminated it
with these lamps hanging in the sky وَجَعَلْنَاهَا
And the shayateen are being repelled
And we have prepared
for them a very deflaming punishment In the
fire of * Then Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala draws our attention to the earth Then
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says Look at
how Allah has created the earth وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدَنَاهَا
We spread it up beneath your feet
And we placed those mountains upon
And we made all kinds of different things
grow out of that earth Beautifully تَبَصِرَةً To
look at and reflect upon
And this is a reminder for every
servant of God Who turns to Allah truly
with their heart Then Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala talks to us about
That the alternation of night and day The
changing of night and day And this actually
has two meanings Multiple meanings in fact But
two meanings that I'll highlight Number one is
the changing of night and day That Allah
created a system where we have night and
we have day وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ
So you can rest during the night
And that you can work during the daytime
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala also says
That we made
the night and the day follow one another
reflect upon the greatness of Allah And to
be grateful for the blessings of Allah وَجَعَلْنَا
We made them as signs
night and day فَمَحَوْنَا آيَةَ اللَّيْلِ And then
we removed the sign of the night وَجَعَلْنَا
And then we provide the
sign, the reflection of the day So that
you think about it
And you're able to go out and seek
the blessing of Allah within the earth وَلِتَعْلَمُوا
And you can keep track
of the years And keep track of the
And we have
laid out everything so clearly For people to
reflect upon Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in
another place in the Qur'an He talks
to us also about the wisdom Within the
system of the night and day قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ
Have you ever thought about this?
That if
He made it be night forever
Till the Day of Judgment مَنْ إِلَهٌ
Who, which God is there other
than Allah يَأْتِيكُمْ بِضِيَاءٍ Who could ever provide
light for you ever again أَفَلَا تَسْمَعُونَ Are
you listening?
Aren't you listening?
That if Allah made it
daytime forever Till the Day of Judgment مَنْ
Who
is the God other than Allah That could
provide you night time So that you could
find some calmness Some rest within it أَفَلَا
Don't you see?
It is from the profound mercy
And it is
from His blessing That He made for you
night and day So that you can rest
in the night So that you can earn
And go out and find Allah's blessing During
the day time So that you may practice
gratitude The second meaning That I'll highlight here
About the interchanging of night and day The
alternation of night and day Is also the
seasons that we go through That the night
and the day Elongate and shorten Based off
of the season In the summer time we
have longer days And shorter nights In the
winter time we have longer nights And shorter
They enter into one another They cross
over into one another The day gets longer,
the night gets shorter Then the night gets
longer, the day gets shorter And all of
this is from the system of Allah That
you can reflect upon And realize so many
of the profound blessings of Allah That the
summer time Is when there's a lot of
work to be done And so Allah elongates
the day time And the winter time It's
cold and it's a time of seeking shelter
So Allah makes the night longer And all
of this Is from the perfect system That
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has created And
provided So Allah points us out to reflect
And
then Allah Gave you the ability to have
These ships, these boats This You know, vehicle
That you were able to construct That sails
through the seas بِمَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسِ Carrying that
Which is beneficial for the people That you
can transport the goods You can move from
one place to another Traverse huge You know,
stretches of the earth That this is a
miracle That Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala made
possible for you وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ الْجَوَارِ فِي الْبَحْرِ
These ships sailing Through the ocean like
these You know, huge signs moving through the
That if Allah made the wind just
completely stop Then those ships would be Stranded,
they wouldn't be able to move In all
of this There are signs for people who
are patient And who are grateful And what's
really interesting about the eloquence Of the Qur
'an There's so much That we've realized over
about How people are able to move Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala summarized all of that
Whatever it is
that people need They'll be able to continue
to discover And realize more and more Ability
to be able to move through the earth
Then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says That
the rain that Allah sends down from the
heavens That the rain that Allah Sends down
from the sky وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ
That rain brings life to everything وَتَرَى
You see that the earth has
completely Withered and died
And then we send down the rain The
earth moves And it starts to Grow وَأَنْبَتَتْ
And then all of
a sudden It rises, excuse me And then
you see all kinds of Beautiful things growing
out of The earth, that this rain Is
representative Of the mercy And the blessing of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Allah says That
That Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
says That Allah moves the rain throughout The
land, spreading This blessing of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala to Wherever it is, the people
need it There's a very beautiful reflection That
He shares That He says that in some
of the scriptures And the reflections of the
nations Of the past, they used to reflect
On the fact, they would say That That
even the rain That it comes down Like
we saw, we heard it raining today That
it's not just water Pouring down on us,
but Allah has created A system of how
the water comes down And we see that
when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Wants to
remind us Of His power, of His might
Of our helplessness Of how meek and helpless
And frail we are That when Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala Does not regulate that rain
And He makes it pour down Then destruction
comes Doom and death arrives Now think about
the blessing of Allah Of how Allah sends
down the rain And then Allah says, فَأَحْيَا
That then Allah brings
The earth back to life after it All
withered and died And this Particular point about
the Rain and it bringing the earth back
to life There's a very Powerful metaphorical Connection
that Allah Makes to this in the Quran
Where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Tells us
that this is akin To The Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam said
That the example The
parable Of the guidance The revelation that Allah
has sent me With the Prophet sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam said Is the example of the
rain That just as the rain comes down
And brings the earth back to life, revelation
It comes Down to the hearts of people
That have become distant And devoid Of the
recognition of Allah and therefore Have started to
wither and die That Allah brings them back
to life Through the Qur'an, through the
revelation And then Allah Goes on to talk
And that Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala has spread out Throughout
the earth All kinds of different creatures and
creation That Allah has spread Throughout the earth
In the Arabic language It refers to
anything That treads the earth It's used a
little bit more In terms of You know,
rhetoric Referring to Animals that people ride But
it linguistically refers to All the creatures on
the earth So look at all the different
Types of fascinating creatures that Allah Has created
that roam the earth الحيوان كلها And then
Allah says وَتَصَرِيفِ الرِّيَاحِ That the changing of
the winds And Allah has Spoken about so
many Different kinds of winds within the Quran
We just read one of the verses Where
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says Some of
the winds are a mercy and a blessing
Cool breezes The wind that brings the rain
But Allah has also Talked about the kinds
of winds That bring the punishment The wrath
Allah destroyed
That we
destroyed them With this terrible wind And we
see examples of that as well When we
see Tornadoes and hurricanes they come And leave
death and doom and destruction In their wake
That's why in a hadith of Abu Dawud
Narrates that the Prophet
That
the wind can be From the mercy of
Allah and it will bring It's from the
mercy of Allah, it brings the mercy وَتَأْتِي
But it can also bring the punishment
When you
feel the wind When you see the wind
blowing, do not curse it
Ask Allah to give you the good In
And take
refuge with Allah From the evil that the
wind could be bringing So again Connect every
experience In this world, in this universe The
world that you live in Connect every experience
with it Connect every experience to The remembrance
of Allah And the reflection Upon that how
this was all created By Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala Then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
Look
at the clouds hanging between The heavens and
the earth Remarkable, beautiful And we look up
at it And it's just captivating It's this
remarkable painting It's all created By Allah And
I spoke about how the reflection that was
shared That It's as if it's a sieve
Or a filter That is dispersing the rain
Evenly and in a balanced Beautiful way In
order to prevent you from drowning In that
rain that comes up And then after mentioning
all of this Allah says لَآيَاتِ These are
all signs For who?
For people who think
People who think And This is Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala Calling our attention To reflect
That's the big takeaway here That open your
eyes And then reflect And think And connect
it to your heart Allah says قُلِ انظُرُوا
Allah says Tell
them, look At the heavens and the earth
All of these signs and these warnings around
them Do not benefit people who don't believe
Are they not looking
and thinking And reflecting Upon everything The magnificent
domain of Allah And the heavens and the
Reflect and
think on yourself Don't you realize?
Don't you understand?
And when we talk about This subject of
Deep, profound reflection This is how Allah Describes
That they deeply
think and ponder and reflect Upon the creation
Of the heavens and the earth And what
conclusion do they reach?
That our Lord
You have not created any of this In
vain And I mentioned Earlier That Allah specifically
Connected That reflecting on all the blessings of
Allah Allah spoke about him being merciful That
Allah Is telling us That this is your
Lord He's the one who created All of
this around you To take care of you
To serve you To provide for you To
give you this beautiful world To live and
exist in Now all you have to do
Find comfort and peace And tranquility in that
And all you have to do Is submit
yourself to him And you can know for
That his
mercy supersedes and overcomes his anger And that
He created all of this As a mercy
upon you and as a favor Upon you
And When talking about All of these different
Three very
profound realizations That are shared by Imam Razi
He says number one Understand
that this These are the That this is
all the creation of Allah And only Allah
سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى has the power And anything
else That you observe in the world Around
you It all comes from Allah Everything is
dependent upon Allah And Allah is dependent upon
nothing Number two That Allah
is eternal And everything else Around you that
you see Is temporary And it will expire
But Allah is eternal And will never expire
And thirdly That Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is
unlimited In His power That till today Human
beings continue to try To study And explore
everything That Allah has created around them And
they cannot reach its end They cannot Every
single, every few years We see those images
From different Satellites And it just keeps going
deeper And deeper, further and further And it's
more and more Mind-blowing every single time
That Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is unlimited And
so The big takeaway From this is We
go back to the very first reflection that
I shared And that is The more someone
Will open their eyes, their mind And their
heart And think and reflect About how powerful
And magnificent Allah is as a creator The
more Deeper and stronger they'll become in their
faith That continue to think And reflect And
I'll end with Just a few anecdotes About
the nature of that reflection The The Poet
In each and every single
thing There is a remarkable Miraculous sign That
there is only one God A Bedouin was
asked One time About why do you believe
in Allah How do you believe in Allah
And he said البعرة تدل على البعيد When
you see a camel dropping You know that
a camel was here
Footprints in
the sand Tell you someone walked by here
The earth full of trees
The ocean full of waves
The sky full of stars
Doesn't this
tell you that Allah is the creator?
And I'll conclude with this So that That
way we'll also conclude with a beautiful du
'a In a narration In Tabarani The Prophet
He passed by a Berwin man
Who was making du'a And the Prophet
He stopped and
he started to listen To his du'a
A teacher Checking on the student How you
doing?
And the man was saying
Oh the one who eyes cannot
behold in this world Minds
And people
cannot praise him As he deserves to be
He does not fear the passing
of time He created time
He knows the exact weight Of the mountains
of the world وَمَكَائِلَ الْبِحَارِ He knows the
exact volume Of all the oceans of the
He knows the exact
number of drops of rain That fall from
He knows the
exact count of all the leaves Of all
the trees in the whole world وَعَدَدَ مَا
knows Everything that night Hides in its darkness
and the day illuminates With its light وَلَا
One sky Cannot block
another sky from Allah One
layer of the earth Does not block another
layer of the earth from Allah Does not
hide it وَلَا جَبْلٌ مَا فِي وَعْرِي A
mountain in its deepest darkest cave Cannot hide
And the ocean in its depths In darkness
Cannot hide anything from Allah And he then
made dua He said
O Allah make the best part of
my life The last part of my life
Make the best of my
deeds The last deed that I ever did
And make the best day of
my life The day that I leave this
world To come back and meet you The
Prophet ﷺ He told somebody wait for him
And bring him to me when he's done
When the man was brought He was a
Bedouin man A simple fellow When he was
brought to the Prophet ﷺ The Prophet ﷺ
gave him a gift Then he said He
asked him what's your name, where are you
from He told him, gave him a gift
He said do you know why I gave
you this gift So you should just check
He said maybe we're related And the Prophet
ﷺ laughed He said no no إِنَّ لِلْرَحِيمِ
Relationships have their rights, that's true وَلَكِنَّ
But I
gifted this to you Because of how beautifully
you praise Allah And we'll end and conclude
With a du'a Since we read the
ayah The hadith of the Prophet ﷺ We
read the ayah Said لا إله إلا هو
الرحمن الرحيم The Prophet ﷺ tells us من
Whosever's last words Are لا إله إلا
الله There's no one worthy of worship but
Allah That person shall enter paradise May Allah
ﷻ Allow our last words on this earth
May Allah
ﷻ Give us the ability to practice everything
That we said and heard
