Inshallah, continuing
with our series in the month of Ramadan,
the stories of the prophets from the Quran.
And we try to extract
practical lessons
from each of these very deep and profound
stories of the prophets.
I know that sheikh spoke
in the previous session
about Musa alayhis salam,
and Musa alayhis salam is the most frequently
spoken of prophet in the entire Quran.
And so we're going to do a number
of sessions
about some of the different stories of Musa
However,
I like to try to keep the continuity
going, but
Sheikh Mikayo,
wanted to speak on the story of Musa,
alayhis salam, so, of course, you know, I
deferred to him.
But before we go further on with Musa,
alayhis salam,
there were a couple
of stories of different prophets
that I wanted to cover before we go
deeper into the story of Musa, alayhis salam,
if that makes sense.
And
the first prophet we're going to talk about
here,
who also,
according to some of the narrations,
he overlaps
with Musa Alaihi Salam and
that is the prophet Shu'aib
Alaihi Salam.
Prophet Shu'aib alayhis salam,
he was sent to the people
of an area in a region called Madian.
And the story of Prophet Shoaib alaihis salam
is often grouped together
with the stories of the prophets
and the Prophet Hud
and the Prophet Lut
and
the reason for that is
all of these
stories, they end
in the doom and the destruction of the
people.
Because
of their stubbornness, their insistence,
and
their refusal
to heed the warning from the prophets that
were sent up.
Now the story of prophet Shu'aib alayhis salam
is
very fascinating, and Allah
gives us these different stories because each one
highlights
a very particular issue.
And the very particular issue pertaining to the
people of Madyan
to whom the prophet Shua'i was sent,
was that, of course, they didn't believe in
Allah, they did not worship Allah, they did
not obey Allah, just like all those other
nations
had the same problem.
Ad and Samud, etcetera.
However,
each of these nations also had a very
particular
problem or issue
Like we talked about the people of that
the the people that Lut alaihis salam was
sent to.
They had a very particular moral moral problem
and moral issue.
And that moral issue
was actually
what prevented them from believing
Because they understood
that if we believe in this prophet
and we believe in Allah and we believe
what he says,
And
so it's a very interesting thing, right? When
you wonder, but they were they didn't believe
in Allah. But then Allah says they were
destroyed because of a sin.
And when people commit that kind of sin
all the time, and yet they're not annihilated
or destroyed.
Actually fueled by that sin.
Does that make sense?
And that was that was some of the
people even at the time of the prophet
salallahu alaihi salam in Mecca, the Quraysh.
Abu Jahl,
Akhnes bin Shurek,
they used to go listen to the prophet
recite Quran at night.
They actually had debates with the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam, where did the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam ask? A farakta?
Yeah, Abel Walid?
Are you done?
Said, yeah. I'm
done.
Then the prophet said,
okay. The prophet
said, okay.
He just started reciting the Quran.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam recited
what we would call about a page and
a half, 2 pages.
And Waleed bin Murih said, please, I beg
you. Stop.
You win.
You win.
And he said later on, when people came
to see him, they're like, what did you
do?
You surrendered in public.
And he said,
This is not
This is not the speech of man.
This is divine.
I have heard
eloquent speech, but this is something else. So,
anyways, the point I'm getting to is these
people also understood this Quran is clearly from
Allah,
Undeniably,
irrefutably.
Why didn't they still believe?
Abu Jahl has a comment where he literally
talks about this.
His family, we have a rivalry,
and we go neck and neck.
We are the 2 top families of Quraysh,
and we rival one another.
I'm the leader of Banu'amil.
Now if I accept
Muhammad
as a prophet and messenger of Allah,
they win.
And I can't give up my pride. I'm
the big dog town.
So this is the issue that Allah teaches
us here in the Quran about. So getting
back to the people that Shoaib alaihis salam
was sent to, the people of Madyan, Ahla
Madyan.
Their particular issue, Allah talks about it. Allah
says that Shoaibah
said to his people, Yaqom, oh my people,
Worship Allah, there is no one worthy of
worship except for him.
Stop
cheating people in business.
They used to cheat.
They used to mess with the numbers
financially
in doing business.
Specifically,
al mikial means measurement.
Al mizan means weight.
So they would measure it and, you know,
weigh it in a way where they showed
it to be less than what it actually
was.
So they didn't have to pay as much.
He says, I know. I see that you're
making a lot of money.
But it's not worth it
because you earned a few extra bucks here,
but you're gonna pay for it for all
of eternity there.
It's just not worth it. I don't care
how many zeros it is.
It's not worth it. We're talking about eternity.
We're talking about your soul.
Don't do it. It's not worth it.
Weigh, better,
properly,
fairly.
Do not cheat people.
And then he says something very profound.
And do not corrupt the earth.
Fascinating.
Do not corrupt the earth.
And
based off of this, the scholars have elaborated
that
cheating
in financial dealings and transactions
is such a corrosive
element
that if that enters into a society,
it destroys that entire community and society.
It is corrosive. It's like rust.
It's a death sentence
for that society.
And then from there, the doors of all
kinds of evil open.
Then you have, like Allah
says,
Then you start
to keep the game going,
you start to buy people off.
Oh, then there's there's maybe some government entity
that watches over this. So then you go.
Right? I know the Pakistanis know what I'm
talking about. I'm explaining it for everybody else.
I can say that. I'm from Pakistan. Okay.
So,
you know, you go to the government people
and you kinda say, hey, listen.
I'm earning this much extra
through my shenanigans here.
How about I give you a
and you conveniently look the other way?
Allah talks about this in the Quran.
The prophet talked to
The one doing the buying off and the
one getting bought off,
bribery,
both of them go to *.
The prophet
said this, not me.
Saint your angry uncle ranting,
This is the prophet of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam saying this in an authentic narration.
Because when you when you let this kind
of financial
bad faith,
bad dealing
enter into the arena,
it undoes everything.
It ruins and corrupts everything. It's like mold
getting into your walls.
It's
zen. And that's why Allah
says
that
you do not ruin the Earth, guys.
The little bit that Allah gives you honestly,
truthfully, with dignity,
It'll go a lot longer. It'll go a
lot farther.
What's meant by farther? It'll take you to
Jannah.
And that's why our messenger, salaahu alayhi wasalam,
in a beautiful narration
found in the book of Irmidi
along with others like Sunan ad Darmi.
Abu Sayed al Khudri radiAllahu ta'ala An who
narrates that the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
said,
the businessman
that is honest and trustworthy
will be raised on the day of judgment
with the prophets
and the pious people
and the martyrs.
Can you imagine that? We're talking about prophets
and martyrs.
People like Abu Bakr.
Right? Some of the commentators mentioned in Nabiin,
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa ta'am.
The prophet said, I'm saying, if you can
earn an honest living,
you can be God fearing,
in
money,
you
could be sitting
Who said who said Islam is too hard?
Who said this deen is impossible?
You just have to do the right thing.
It's right in front of you.
That's how easy and simple it is.
And one of the great scholars of our
tradition, Imam al Sarraxi,
he's one of
the of the Hanafi
school. In his
in the beginning of
the section on the rules of business transactions,
he shares a little anecdote.
He says,
This is the student of Imam Abu Hanifa.
His name was Mohammed Abdul Hassan al Shaibani
Rahmullah, Imam Mohammed.
Says, kila
la who? Someone said to him,
They said, you not you don't write about
spirituality because Imam Mohammed,
Ibn Hassan al Shaibani, he was a very
prolific author and a writer.
Like all of the benefit we have from
Imam Abu Hanifa is through the works of
Imam Muhammad. Imam Hanifa was a teacher, but
Imam Muhammad was the scribe.
He was very prolific. He wrote volumes and
volumes and volumes.
So he wrote so much on Hadith, on
Usul, on Aqidah,
on fiqh, on history, on Sira. He wrote
so much.
So they said,
you don't write about spirituality.
Like,
spirituality.
You don't write anything about that.
And he says,
What what are you talking about? I absolutely
have written about spirituality.
I said, where? He said,
I wrote the book about the rules, the
halal and haram of doing business.
That is spirituality.
If you can behave yourself with money,
your heart is in good condition.
If you can pray all day,
pray all night, fast all day,
all the time. That's me in the hand.
But then when money gets in front of
you,
then you get
a little wobbly.
Then things get shady.
Your heart has a problem.
So this is the big message,
financial ethics.
Allah
gives to us in the story of the
prophet Shoaib alaihis salam. May Allah make honest
in our dealings. May Allah
grant us taqwa
in every aspect of our lives. And may
Allah
grant us the ability to practice everything we've
said and heard.
