ul-ba'd Sadaqallahul Azeem My dear respected Shuyukh
and all the distinguished guests, elders and brothers,
we begin by praising Almighty Allah, all His
favours, says Allah in the Quran, وَإِن تَعُدُّوا
If you try and
count the favours of Allah, you will be
unable to do so.
We send salutations upon our beloved Nabiye Karim
sallallahu alayhi wasallam, because of whom we have
been brought together in a common brotherhood, a
brotherhood which is not based on ethnicity, race,
but which is based on the Kalima, لا
And says Allah in the
Respected Shuyukh and elders
and brothers, it gives me great pleasure to
be part of this convention for the past
several years.
And really I always felt home.
And I've always felt beautiful in your company.
Alhamdulillah.
It has given me pleasure to be in
your company.
The theme is, وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْحِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَارِ So
allow me just to say a few words
on this.
Allah Ta'ala has created each and every
one of us unique, different, distinct and separate.
Everyone is different.
And this is the power of Allah.
Among the signs of Allah, He created
the heavens and earth, made people into different
languages and different races.
Allah has made everyone different.
But so much so, Allah Ta'ala in
Allah Ta
'ala says that people feel, do people feel
that Allah won't be able to resurrect them
on the day of Qiyamah?
But Allah Ta'ala says, Yes, I will
resurrect you.
I will bring you together.
So much so, عَلَىٰ أَنْ مُسْتَوِّيَ بَنَانَ بَنَانَ
means our fingertips.
I will bring you together on the day
of Qiyamah with your fingertips.
Why did Allah make mention of fingertips?
Because everyone's fingerprint is different.
Everyone has got, every human being's fingerprint is
different from every other human being Allah has
created.
So Allah says, I will bring you together
on the day of Qiyamah with your own
fingerprint.
So Allah has made each and
everyone different.
But Allah wants us to be like one.
Although we
are different, Allah wants us to be like
one single body.
In a similar manner, just like that, Allah
has also created us that you and I,
when we come in front of Allah, we
are going to come alone to account for
our deeds.
There you won't be able to say that
the Imam didn't tell me, the Sheikh didn't
Everyone
will come to Allah Ta'ala alone to
account for his deeds.
You
will come to Allah Ta'ala alone the
way He created you alone.
In the way He created you alone, you
came one out from your mother's womb, you
will come in front of Allah alone.
Despite Allah Ta'ala creating us different, Allah
Ta'ala telling us, meeting everyone, you are
going to come in front of Allah Ta
'ala alone.
Allah wants us to interact.
Allah wants us to be with one another.
Allah wants us to interact, to socialize with
one another.
Hadith in Sahih Muslim A Muslim,
he intermingles with people.
Now when you intermingle with people, you speak
to people, it's always going to be some
problem.
And today it is too much more problems
today.
But every time you interact, there is some
problem.
You have to bear the inconvenience of another
person.
But Allah Ta'ala, Nabi Akram insha'Allah
said, that person who interacts, makes sabah of
the inconvenience, is better.
Who does not interact, and he does
not have to bear inconvenience.
Today many times I hear people saying in
our community, I don't get involved in the
community, I just go and do my Salat,
I come away.
That's not the mizad, not the temperament of
Islam.
Not the temperament of a Muslim.
Muslim is supposed to interact.
Abdullah ibn Umar r.a, when he used
to go to the Salat, when he used
to go to the marketplaces, he used to
tell his students, I'm going to the marketplaces
to make my brothers in Islam, make them
salam, to be able to interact with them.
SubhanAllah.
So Allah Ta'ala, despite creating us different,
despite creating us that each and everyone will
account for his deeds alone, Allah wants us
to be together.
Allah wants us to socialize.
Allah wants us to interact.
Now if we are going to interact, on
what basis are we going to interact?
How are we going to interact?
So Allah Ta'ala has told us, Cooperate,
be together on the basis of birr and
taqwa.
And do not cooperate with one another on
acts of sin, transgression, kiss, fujur, and zulm,
and injustice against anyone.
So that is the basis of interaction.
So we have to interact on what basis?
Allah has told us.
Now let me tell you the benefits of
interaction.
You see many a times people feel, I
can read my tahajjud salat on my own,
I can be individual on my own, I
can make piety on my own, I can
obey commands of Allah Ta'ala alone.
Remember, individual piety is not guaranteed.
Individual piety is not istiqama.
Individual piety does not have istiqama.
Why?
Because you and I, Our biggest enemy is
our nafs, our desire which is with us.
And Allah in the Quran says, Some say
it's the statement of Yusuf A.S. Some
say it is a general command.
I don't absorb my nafs, my soul, and
maybe soul is not the right word, my
carnal desire.
Sometimes people use the word soul, but the
carnal desire, my common instinct.
If I leave it to my own, it
is going to lead me astray.
It's going to lead me.
That's why Ali R.A. was asked, How
can I enter into Jannah?
Someone asked Ali R.A., How can I
enter Jannah?
Ali R.A. said, Very easy.
Put your one foot on your nafs, on
your desire, and your next step is Jannah.
Trample your desires.
Trample your carnal desires, you are halfway to
Jannah.
So now, our individual piety, we can't be
guaranteed on it.
We need the collective environment.
We need one another's help to be able
to remain firm upon deen.
The believing
male and females are protectors of one another.
They protect one another.
How do they protect one another?
They tell one
another, they help one another, they protect one
another.
To do what?
To do, to greet salat, to give zakat,
to obey Allah and His Rasul.
Now you realize why we
need collective, why we need ta'awwil.
Because if you haven't have ta'awwil, maybe
you will not be able to have taqwa.
Without ta'awwil, without help, without the help
of everyone, to be able to come upon
deen, to be able to come upon taqwa,
to be able to come upon righteousness, subhanAllah.
And let me give, I said, they said
I must say 10 minutes or so, inshaAllah,
10 minutes is coming.
I'll just give you another example, why we
need everyone's help, why we need ta'awwil.
Hazrat Aisha radiallahu ta'ala one day asked
Nabiye Karim sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
Will we be destroyed?
Will Allah's punishment come upon us when there
are pious people in our ummah?
There are pious people.
And alhamdulillah, even in our weak state today,
there are a lot of pious people amongst
us.
They'll be here in Masjid Imam Shafi, they'll
be pious people.
In Hamidiya Masjid, Newtown, Mecca Masjid, they will
be pious people.
So then Aisha said, Ya Rasulullah, is it
possible for us to be destroyed?
In us and there are
pious people?
What did our beloved Nabiye Karim sallallahu alaihi
wasallam said?
Yes.
When evil becomes rampant in
the community, when evil becomes dominant in the
community, you can be destroyed even if there
are pious people in your masjid.
So I just felt I should say a
few words with regard to the theme.
And these few words came into my mind
as I shared it with you.
That why ta'awwun is so important?
Why wa ta'awwunu alal birri wa taqwa
is so important?
For ourselves, for our individual piety, for our
individual taqwa.
Because if we don't have ta'awwun and
we don't have help of one another, then
what is going to happen?
We will not be able to have istiqamah.
We will not be able to comply with
the commands of Allah.
And therefore I make dua that Allah Ta
'ala always keep us united.
Allah Ta'ala always keep us making ta
'awwun on dhikr.
So that we can help one another to
be able to reach Jannah inshallah.
Because that is our ultimate goal.
That is our ultimate...
Today people like to fight for land.
In our community they fight for land.
Our great grandfathers were in India.
Now the people are fighting for the land
in India.
So I tell people, our original land is
what?
What is our original land?
Jannah.
Where our forefathers came?
Our great grandfather came from where?
Jannah.
If you want to fight for land, fight
for Jannah.
Because our great...
You know, our great grandfather came from Jannah.
So maybe we help one another to inshallah
reach that state.
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal rahmatullahi was one day
told, Why don't you rest?
What a beautiful reply he gave.
He said, I will rest when my first
steps are in Jannah then I will rest
inshallah.
May Allah give you another topic.
