Surah Maryam is, I guess, particularly important, especially
for the youngsters to read through and understand
or for you to pass on those teachings,
especially around December time where if they go
to different schools and are taught different beliefs
concerning Maryam and Isa alayhi salam.
It's important for us to, of course, make
clear what the Islamic perspective is.
It's not just for perspective's sake, but to
outline what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells
us.
Qawla al-haqq, that it is the ultimate
truth concerning these great individuals of the past.
So, Surah Maryam, as you know that all
chapters of the Qur'an, they have names.
And some of those chapters of the Qur
'an are known as more than, or they
have more than one name.
Some chapters of the Qur'an, some of
them are known to have more than one
name.
Surah Maryam is only known as having one
name.
And the chapter itself is named after, of
course, the mother of Jesus, the mother of
Isa alayhi salam.
Now Maryam herself, in which we'll explain some
of the virtues of this great person alayhi
salam in the chapter itself.
But the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam told
us about the great women of the past.
And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said,
كَمَّلُوا مِنَ الرِّجَالِ كَثِيرٌ That there were many
men of the past who achieved, from a
human perspective at least, perfection, many men.
However, لَمْ يُكْمِلْ مِنْ نِسَائِي إِلَّا مَرْيَم بِنتُ
عِمْرَان But as from the women, there was
only Maryam, the daughter of Imran, and Asiyah,
the wife of Firaun, and Khadijah radiyallahu anha,
and Fatima radiyallahu anha.
So the Prophet alayhi salam mentioned these great
women from the past, from the women to
reach perfection, these were the very best.
Added to that, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam said, it's sufficient for you to know
that from the women of the past, of
alamin, is Maryam, ibnut Imran, the Prophet sallallahu
alayhi wa sallam mentioned again, Maryam.
Now these ahadith are mentioned across, whether it
is in al-Bukhari, and also from the
books of Sunan, like the Sunan al-Tirmidhi.
As for the, so now we know the
status of the name of who it's named
after, and her virtue, alayhi salam, what about
the chapter itself?
Does it have any fadl, does it have
any virtue?
Now you may know, I'm sure that, Surat
al-Ikhlas, Qul hu wallahu ahad, as the
Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam told us, Ta'dilu
thulitha al-Quran, it is equal to a
third of the Quran, equal to a third
of the Quran.
Surat al-Fatiha, has a number of virtues,
many virtues, Surat al-Fatiha.
Ayat al-Kursi, in fact Surat al-Baqara
and Surat al-Imran, moreover.
So some chapters of the Quran, it's established
that they have virtues, blessings, that the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned them, or referred
something about them.
Is there anything concerning the recitation of Surat
Maryam?
Now commonplace, common thing, is that a person
will say, well, you know for a woman,
if she is pregnant, you should recite this
chapter.
Okay, if you want to get pregnant, she
should recite this chapter.
Because in it, there is the story of
Zakaria alayhi sallam, when Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala granted him a son, late in life,
when maybe all hope was lost.
And also the story of Maryam herself alayhi
sallam, and she was of course given the
command by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala through
the angel Jibreel.
However, there isn't anything from the Sunnah, for
us to state or to specify the recitation
of this particular Surah, that if a woman
wants to get pregnant, or she wants to
have children, then specifically write this Surah, or
recite this Surah.
It's nothing.
However, one done it themselves, seeking Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala's blessing in a matter, then
of course no one prevents you from reciting
the Quran.
But the Prophet alayhi sallam did not specify
this chapter for that reason.
However, the Prophet alayhi sallam did mention Surat
Maryam in a couple of places.
So, the Prophet alayhi sallam said that on
the Hadith of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud radhiAllahu
an.
In fact, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, because it
is his statement, but it is something that
the Prophet alayhi sallam has taken from him.
He said that the chapters of Bani Israel,
does anybody know what the chapter of Bani
Israel is?
It's what I mentioned to you earlier, that
sometimes some chapters have more than one name.
Fadhal.
Surah Al-Isra, Bani Israel, Surah Al-Kahf,
Surah Maryam, Surah Taha, and Surah Al-Anbiya,
that they are from the early revelation that
was given to the Prophet alayhi sallam, and
that they are from the treasures.
So, the Prophet alayhi sallam referred to these
particular chapters specifically.
Also, if we look at the incident of
Al-Najashi, when the Muslims, they first went
on a hijrah, i.e. that the Prophet
alayhi sallam gave some of the Muslims permission
to leave Mecca, this is before Medina, of
course, by a few years, that some of
the Muslims, they were to leave Mecca, and
they were to go to Abyssinia, and there
they would find a king who would not
oppress them.
To cut a longish story quite short, eventually
Al-Najashi asked the Muslims as to this
revelation has been given to you, please recite
some of it.
And we know in this incident that Ja
'far ibn Abi Talib r.a. recited verses
from Surah Maryam.
And its beauty and eloquence, then by Allah's
permission, that Al-Najashi then said to the
Quraysh that these people, that they can stay
here, and they are free to stay here,
that they will not be returned to Mecca,
as was requested by the people of the
Quraysh.
So therefore it is a Meccan Surah.
When you look at the Qur'an, you
can categorize it into two in terms of
its revelation.
There are some chapters that were revealed in
the Madani period, the latter time, and some
of the chapters that were revealed in the
early Meccan period.
If you like, the line in the sand,
or the line that is drawn, is anything
that is revealed before Hijrah, is considered a
Meccan Surah or Meccan verses.
And then after that, after that is considered
Madani.
You do find, not to get too complicated,
but sometimes you do find some chapters contain
the vast majority of verses, maybe Meccan Surahs,
and maybe only a handful of verses of
that Meccan Surah may have been revealed in
the Madani time.
That can happen, and vice versa.
Just so you know.
So, we're going to go into the Surah
now, and I'm going to go over it
briefly, because we're talking about 98 or 99
verses, depending on the view that you take.
We'll try to take about a thematic approach,
if you like, and that is by subject,
or by the themes that are mentioned in
this particular chapter.
I want you to remember two things, though.
There are two things which are essential for
you to remember when reciting this particular Surah
at any time.
And it's good that any chapter that you
read, that you have some khalfiyah, you have
some background information as to maybe when it
was revealed, because I mentioned to you, okay,
you mentioned it's a Meccan Surah, what's the
point of you mentioning that to me?
It's a Quran, alhamdulillah.
Well, if we know that the span of
the life in terms of prophethood, that the
Prophet ﷺ was alive for 23 years, we
can see that the verses that were revealed
in the early times, and then the chapters
that were revealed at the latter times, and
how, at times, certain verses were concerning particular
incidents.
So it's important for us to know when
it was revealed.
So the fact that this is ayat, or
this is a chapter that was revealed particularly
early in the life of the Prophet ﷺ,
while as a prophet and messenger.
So it's quite early.
Bearing in mind that also the Prophet ﷺ
at this time was in Mecca, and the
majority of the people are in Mecca.
Who are they?
The polytheists.
They're idol worshippers.
Idol worshippers.
However, large parts of this Surah is talking
about Ahlul Kitab.
Talking about, addressing, in some, most cases, the
people of the book.
The story of Zakariya, the story of Isa,
or some mentioning about Ibrahim ﷺ.
So, again, this is another important thing to
discuss.
Maybe not all the time now, but things
to ponder over as well.
But the two things I want you to
remember, and as I mentioned at any chapter
you go to, try to find the main
objective, if at all possible.
Sometimes you find some chapters of Qur'an
very, very long.
Surah Al-Baqarah.
Many, many things are mentioned.
This chapter, number one, is Rahmatullah.
The mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And secondly, Ubudiyyah.
And what is Ubudiyyah?
Ubudiyyah is, if you like, submission.
Submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
True servitude to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And that we, of course, are talking about
the servants of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
How they were true servants and that they
worshipped Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in the
correct way.
These two things.
So when you read and ponder over some
of the verses, because you may say then,
well, isn't that applicable to all verses, all
chapters of Qur'an?
Mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
servitude and worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Yes, of course.
I'm sure that you can say that.
If not all the chapters.
So why specifically these two things I'm mentioning?
Rahma and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's name
Ar-Rahman.
It will become inshallah ta'ala clear as
we go through some of the verses.
So remember, Ar-Rahma is Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala's mercy to His creation.
And how He subhanahu wa ta'ala, His
mercy encompasses everything.
And the reality of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala's mercy is beyond our scope.
Beyond our full understanding.
However, we know that Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is the most merciful.
And those people, those individuals who achieved the
very highest levels of Ubudiyyah, servitude are mentioned
in this particular chapter.
So these are two things that we want
to think about as we are going through
the different verses and as we are going
through the different themes.
So, the verse begins with Al-Huroof or
letters which are when put together, may not
have any meaning to you.
As you read the beginning of Surah Al
-Baqarah or other chapters, Alif, La, Meem, other
chapters, Alif, La, Im, Ra, Ha, Meem, Qaaf,
Noon.
Okay, some of these chapters have one letter,
some two, some three.
This one, Kaaf, Ha, Ya, Ain, Saad.
So, the fact this is the first verse
and then the person is asking what does
that mean?
What is the meaning of that?
Well, there are various approaches, various opinions concerning
this.
I'm not here to tell you the absolute
this is what it is and the others
are incorrect.
No, there are various and valid opinions.
Some say, the Mufassiroon, that these letters put
together are from the secrets of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
It's not for us to delve into that
but we know that the Qur'an is
in itself a miraculous nature and this is
something that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala placed
for us, something we cannot achieve, we cannot
fully understand but we accept that this is
the Kalam of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and it is an ijaz but its true
meaning Allah knows.
It's one view.
Another view is that Allah azawajal is telling
us and the reader that this Qur'an
is Arabic.
Arabic language and that there is a challenge
to people to bring something like it.
So this is again another view but again
as I mentioned this is a long discussion
but I want to go into the next
verses in which Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
from this verse 1 all the way to
number 15 approximately 1 to 15 talks about
Zakariya alayhi salam now another important point is
that when you read the Qur'an there
will be times you are reading part of
a story of a particular prophet or righteous
person and then let's mention now okay Isa
alayhi salam one of the great prophets of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he is from
the five great prophets that Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala enabled with a strong and determined
resolve so we know about Isa alayhi salam
as a child as a baby speaking and
defending his mother and we also know some
of the teachings towards the end of his
life or I say the end of his
life the end of the first part of
his existence on this earth before he was
taken up to the heavens so then you
can say well there is about 30 years
or so we're missing the Qur'an does
not mention those 30 years of what Isa
alayhi salam was actually doing but you have
to realize and understand the Qur'an is
not like like a tarikh like a history
book of stories in that manner but rather
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions to us
that what is most important for us to
know and understand that's a very important point
so here we have surah Maryam so we
know Maryam great individual the mother of Isa
alayhi salam but yet the story begins with
who?
begins with another person begins with the prophet
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Zakariya and
for us too we'll have good context and
perspective and understanding of Maryam alayhi salam then
we need to know where she came from
so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions and
tells us in another chapter and again there
is another important thing for us to know
that when talking about the Qur'an and
understanding of the Qur'an that Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala will explain verses between themselves
so sometimes you'll find part of the story
or something which is mentioned in one chapter
and then is explained in another chapter so
the Qur'an the kalam of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala will explain itself in other
places it's not all just put in one
place the story of Musa alayhi salam is
all in one place surah Musa, well there
is no surah Musa and you don't find
the story of Musa alayhi salam all in
one place you find some of it in
surah al-Baqarah some of it in surah
al-Qasas, surah al-Anbiya in other places,
all the way in surah al-Nazi'at
Musa alayhi salam is mentioned so the story
of Musa alayhi salam spread out that means
that you've got to read various parts of
the Qur'an for you to get this
picture and it is like you can say
we're looking at the same story from different
perspectives so on one occasion Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala has mentioned you from this zawiyah,
from this direction how the story is told
to you and then in another chapter the
story is told from another perspective but we're
looking at the same story but different ways
to be told to you so when we're
talking about Zakariya alayhi salam and we're talking
about the environment and the people he was
amongst well Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells
us as I just mentioned that in surah
Ali'Imran, chapter number 3 of the Qur
'an that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala told
us that he chose inna allaha istafa very
clear very powerful that indeed Allah chose certain
people certain families so Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala istafa Adam Allah azza wa jal chose
Adam and the choosing of Adam alayhi salam
for what reason?
to be the first man wa nooha and
nooha alayhi salam for what reason?
almost like the second father of mankind after
the world was drowned and then you have
Ibrahim alayhi salam abu'l anbiya and then
you have Ali'Imran Ali'Imran so three
great prophets of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
are mentioned and then the family of Ali
'Imran Ali'Imran is a prophet?
no he's not a prophet so what is
the situation here?
so then these verses straight after this although
it's not our chapter Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala when I say it's not our chapter
it's not one we're directly explaining because these
are verses that are still in surah Ali
'Imran Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions the
incident of how Maryam alayhi salam how she
came into how she came into this earth
who was her father?
Imran and who was her mother?
The mother's name is not mentioned by the
way but it is mentioned in some narrations
some of them taken from Israel Hanna and
she mentions that she has become pregnant and
that she wishes to dedicate her daughter to
be from the Ubad or the servants of
the place of worship at that time in
any case back to as we will come
to the story of Maryam alayhi salam shortly
inshallah so Zakariya alayhi salam who is the
one who looked after Maryam because the father
of Maryam died Imran he died while Hanna
she was pregnant so Maryam for all intents
and purposes was born as an orphan so
Zakariya alayhi salam is the one who looked
after Maryam alayhi salam so after Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala mentions these letters that are
brought together Allah jalla wa ala mentions as
I mentioned to you these two topics Rahmah,
Mercy and Servitude, Worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala, Ubudiyyah the phrase in Arabic is called
Ubudiyyah from the word Abd, Abd Allah, Abd
al Rahman Abd al Rahim, Abd al Hakeem
Ubudiyyah means Servitude that is a state of
a person how that person will be towards
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala they will be
a true servant to Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala immediately
mentions verse number 2 ذكر رحمة ربك عبده
رحمة ربك عبده Zakariya immediately Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala mentions Rahmah, Mercy remember these two
topics Rahmah and Ubudiyyah so رحمة ربك the
mercy of your lord concerning who?
concerning the servant Zakariya a.s so here
we find Zakariya a.s as is mentioned
in many places in the Quran Zakariya is
a great prophet of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala the best individual of his people when
he is speaking at this time he is
calling upon his lord he is calling upon
his lord which is the practice of many
of the prophets that you find in the
Quran how many dua's you find of Ibrahim
a.s Yunus a.s Ayub a.s
Isa a.s all these prophets calling upon
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so in this
first verse you find what?
the mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is mentioned the mercy because it is mentioned
by name رحمة ربك the mercy of your
lord and then عبده the servitude of Zakariya
the servitude the worship of Zakariya a.s
and what is he doing?
إذن داربه he is calling upon his lord
so suddenly the story appears now and we
find that Zakariya a.s is calling his
lord he is making dua to Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala what is the manner of
this dua?
how is he making dua to Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala?
نداء خفية it is a private it is
a private dua it is not amongst the
people everybody has to know what he wants
and what he is doing it is a
private ibadah which gives us a reminder as
well about the importance of our servitude to
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala us worshipping Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala should start with us
being sincere being sincere means we are not
showing off we are not doing for anybody
else and most of the time we are
doing it privately we are doing it privately
we are not if you like entertaining people
we are not here to entertain as worshippers
regardless of what ibadah that you are doing
if you are performing hajj if you are
performing zakah or giving your zakah do you
tell everybody I gave my zakah is that
for you to do?
ya shabab I gave my zakah today is
that how we should be doing it?
or for example that everybody I am fasting
Monday I mean if you want to remind
everybody it is sunnah it is good to
fast Mondays ok that is one way of
doing it try to fast Mondays and Thursdays
but then the person says no no no
I am fasting Monday ok that is between
you and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but
if you want to remind people of fasting
it is ok so there are ways of
reminding people and there are ways of you
privately worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so
for example you want to tell everybody I
gave sadaqah you know Islamic Relief are here
today brothers I gave 50 pounds sadaqah why
are you telling everybody you have done that?
don't destroy your deeds by such actions and
statements keep these things private between you yourself
and your lord that is it ok another
common example I am going Umrah you know
this one right?
very common I am going Umrah please forgive
me everybody maybe the majority of your virtual
friends never met you in their lives why
are you asking people to forgive you?
you didn't do anything to anyone virtual friends
to forgive you for what?
so things like this I mean personally amongst
your own circles if you are going somewhere
you might not come back maybe Allah knows
so then you say to people if you
have debts with them if this happens then
please forgive me or someone else will cover
that debt or whatever the case may be
in your own private circles you mention to
those things it is no problem I am
performing Umrah and on top of that I
am next to the Kaaba and look at
me making Sa'i but the things become
really normal I am diversing here by the
way I am talking about the importance of
remaining sincere in your Ibadah I don't want
to go on a rant about what people
are doing it is up to them but
as a reminder we shouldn't be displaying advertising
what you are doing in terms of your
Ibadah people are not going to reward you
for that people may praise you for that
and that destroys your deeds, how are you
going to keep yourself sincere in behaving in
such a way in any case the first
two verses Allah tells us about the mercy
of Allah the servitude of Zakariya and the
manner the way that he how he was
worshipping Allah so Zakariya in his Dua because
it is easy for us when we make
Dua to Allah because now we have the
Adab we have the manner of Dua and
if you look carefully I mean we are
not going to go through 99 verses like
this by the way, we will be here
till Fajr probably and beyond but if you
look at the sequence it is like one
lesson, Dars Dars, Dars, lesson after lesson in
order so mercy of Allah Subhanallah, servitude of
the slaves so I am raising myself up
like this sorry and then thirdly the type
of Ibadah that you are going to offer,
that is the Dua and you do that
in a state of sincerity anything more yes
there is more so here you find that
Zakariya Alayhi Salam he says my lord indeed
my bones have weakened have become old and
my head has filled with white, my hair
is going grey or white and I have
never been in my supplication to you oh
my lord unhappy, I have never been disappointed
so here Zakariya is mentioning his own state
that what?
that he is in need of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala he is weak now, he
is old and that even though that being
the case he is old person never has
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala disappointed him never
forsaken him so a person I am sure
and the prophets alayhim salatu wasalam made dua
for many things in their lives the greatest
people to make dua and how Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala would always answer their supplication
that was always in the best interests of
that particular prophet alayhi salam as for us
we make dua many times if I say
to you nobody wants any answers of course
it is said to you that the times
or how many times you have made dua
in your life you would say so many
times I don't know, hundreds, thousands of times
ok, then ask yourself how many times did
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala disappoint you ask
yourself that question, again I don't want any
answers ask yourself when did Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala disappoint me in my dua if
you relegate or if you think that the
answering of dua is only or is truly
answered if it is answered in the way
that I want it and anything else would
be considered to be a disappointment then you
will find certain times certain people will say
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala disappointed me many
times I asked for this and this and
this and I never got it so I
was disappointed but a person who truly understands
dua in that when you make dua to
Allah azza wa jal that dua is answered
in different ways that dua may be answered
in that Allah azza wa jal gives you
what you are asking for it may be
answered and this is of course that the
Prophet mentioned this to us it may be
the case that what you are asking for
is delayed you are not going to get
it now it will be delayed to a
time that is better for you, maybe in
the akhira or it may be sharr, some
evil you don't realize that because we don't
know the future you are asking I want
this I want to get married to so
and so and it doesn't happen maybe Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala is protecting you from
that person not because they are inherently evil
but because there is no tawafuk you people
might not get on so Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala protects you from that what you
are asking so in every case Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala will never disappoint his servants
that the answering of that dua ultimately you
will only know maybe in the hereafter so
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala never disappoints and
never forsakes you in you making a dua
the fact that you make dua that you
are rewarded for that Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala rewards you blesses you for you being
sincere and turning back to him so Zakariya
a.s in this verse first and foremost
not is asking I want this, I want
this, I want this no o mankind that
you are in complete need of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala and it is Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala who is the self sufficient
the all praised so again making dua you
recognize your need of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala and so Zakariya a.s he has
a fear he has a fear late in
life and what is that fear that fear
is that I fear that I won't have
any successes I won't have any children children
what so that my wealth goes to these
children, my family or so that they can
continue my name for namesake would this be
and this may be the wishes and desires
of some people that I want children so
that my wealth doesn't go to the state
or so that my wealth is not distributed
to other relatives that I don't really get
on with I want my wealth to stay
to the next blood relative so therefore I
want children or for example I want my
name to continue the family of so and
so I don't want my name just to
disappear of course these are worldly worldly wants
and desires and of course Zakariya a.s
and it is a natural desire of course
for anyone to have children human nature to
have children to have dhuriya but to recognize
and know the blessings in having dhuriya, having
a progeny having a family that you are
able to pass on the teachings of what
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that you want
your children to also be worshippers of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala just as you are
a worshipper that Zakariya a.s and many
other prophets that I mentioned in the Quran
they also wanted children Ibrahim a.s late
in life was given children for what reason?
so that they could be worshippers of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala however the reality is
in the situation of Zakariya a.s is
that he is old and that his wife
is also very old or barren so either
she is very very old past the age
if you like of giving birth or barren
meaning she is unable to have children and
so he mentions in the next verse that
he will inherit from me and that he
will inherit from the family of Yaqub and
that he makes dua to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala that to make him oh my
lord to make him pleasing make them pleasing
they are pleased individuals to Rabbul Alameen so
this is what he is asking for at
least this is what Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala is telling us in this particular surah
so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala then explains
to us the information of the Wahi comes
to Ya Zakariya oh Zakariya indeed we have
given you the glad tidings of a son
his name is Ismuhu Yahya so Zakariya asks
for a son and that the son is
a child he is granted a son and
the son is also what is also a
prophet he is also a prophet now are
all the children of prophets also prophets is
that the case so you find Ibrahim had
children were they prophets Ismail and Ishaq so
maybe they are look at if you like
Zakariya has a son prophet so all prophets
who have sons are they always prophets no
they are not Muhammad the best of prophets
had sons but they were not prophets so
not every son that is born to a
prophet is a prophet however there are prophets
who do have sons who are prophets and
this is an example of that so when
the news is given to Zakariya alayhi salam
he is surprised he is startled old in
age and what he thought about his wife
being barren not able to have children he
is not questioning Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
but is how can this be subhanallah that
you have deemed decreed that I will have
a son a child and my wife is
barren and I am old how can this
be so he is informed alayhi salam of
course it is an angel that is informing
Zakariya alayhi salam about this this is what
your lord has said and it is easy
for me it is easy for Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala remember that there was a
time when you were nothing you were brought
into existence Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has
the ability over all things so out of
thanks as it is said out of thanks
or he asks for a sign Zakariya alayhi
salam he asks Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
oh my lord make for me a sign
so it is said to him that your
sign that you do not speak to people
for three days you do not speak to
people for three days so he came out
to his people Zakariya alayhi salam after receiving
this great news and signaled to them to
exalt Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in the
morning and in the evening so after Zakariya
alayhi salam is told your sign is not
your sign is not to talk so then
he signals to them and sabihu to praise
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in the morning
and the evening in the morning and the
evening so how is that done how would
you do that now this is not explained
to us it is not explained to us
but then you might find a little bit
of a conflict there in the fact that
Zakariya alayhi salam is told not to speak
for three days but yet is telling people
to praise Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in
the morning and the evening ok so for
us now and I am not saying it
was done like this but this can be
done without speaking so let's say for example
in the salah or rather after the salah
I should say you won't be doing this
in prayer so salah finishes and then you
have maybe somebody next to you your son
or something like that and you are not
going to speak to them but you want
to tell them to make tasbih how would
you do that you do this on your
fingers right because we were taught that we
were taught to make tasbih on our fingers
after salah right so you need to look
at your you just merely look at them
and you are teaching them tasbih you may
do this fajr prayer or you may do
this maghrib that way the message was delivered
to them without you saying anything now I
am not saying that this was done at
the time this was taught to us by
the prophet that a person would understand by
you doing these movements a person would mean
ok make your dhikr from that would be
tasbih right so Zakariya alayhi salam is upholding
the what the command of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala and the sign that was given
to him so then Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala tells us about Yahya alayhi salam himself
straight away in verse number 12 Ya Yahya
now bear in mind that Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala told us or rather informed Zakariya
alayhi salam that he would be given a
son who has not been named like this
before is a new name now does this
mean that in the entire time of history
of man that nobody has ever been named
Yahya or that for the longest of time
that is out of the memory of people
that this name was not used both are
possible wallahu a'ala in any case it
wasn't a frequent name however Yahya alayhi salam
a prophet of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
as Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells us
Ya Yahya khuthil kitaba bi quwa take the
revelation that is given to you how?
with determination the revelation that comes to you
be serious, be determined with regards to that
and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala also mentioned
that he was given judgment while a boy
while very young so Yahya alayhi salam was
given the responsibility of making judgment while young
now this isn't something strange that the prophets
alayhi salatu salam are given such instructions or
responsibilities while they are young because if we
look at the story of Ibrahim alayhi salam
when he would debate and speak with his
father and his people and he was yet
a young person so this isn't something strange
and this in fact the story of Ibrahim
alayhi salam exactly is mentioned a little bit
later on in the chapter so Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala again mentioned some of the
continuing the sifat or the attributes of Yahya
alayhi salam so Zakariya alayhi salam was mentioned
making dua the type of dua, the manner
of dua what was asked for and the
granting of the dua and then the fruit
of the dua Yahya alayhi salam Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala mentions some of the characteristics
of of Yahya that he was given al
-kitab, a book and that also or rather
given al-hukm I should say, ruling and
judgment determination concerning the kitab that was given
to him and that Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala also said that an affection from us
and purity and he was fearing Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, these sifat these blessed and
virtuous attributes concerning the prophets of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala و كان تقيا that he
was a God fearing, feared Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala و برا بوالدي and also dutiful
to his parents dutiful to parents and that
he was not disobedient and a tyrant in
any way and this particular topic is also
mentioned in a few verses later where the
small child, the baby Isa as a baby
speaks in the cradle and he also says
و برا بوالدي and also obedient to my
mother, so this topic of being dutiful and
obedient to one's parents is mentioned a number
of times in this particular chapter bearing in
mind the mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala and servitude, part of our servitude is
also being dutiful to one's parents because this
is the command ultimately of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala and so peace be upon him
the day he was born the day he
dies and the day he is raised alive
that is Yahya as now it is narrated
that both Zakariya and Yahya that they were
killed that they were prophets whom were killed
by their people so Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala although the demise of these two great
prophets of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
not mentioned here it is mentioned in some
narrations some accept that these can be affirmed,
others they say Allah knows whether that happened
or not so after the mention of Zakariya
peace be upon him and then the mentioning
of Yahya peace be upon him there is
a style that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
mentions in the Quran in this particular chapter
وَذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ and mentioned in the book
وَذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ who?
Maryam وَذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ Ibrahim وَذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ
Idrees and Musa these great prophets are mentioned
but Maryam here is mentioned first in this
way وَذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ مَرْيَم and the story
of Maryam peace be upon her as we
mentioned has a beginning, the birth of Maryam
peace be upon her is mentioned in Surah
Ali Imran then we fast forward to a
time but to have some background information in
that that Zakariya peace be upon her who
was looking after Maryam because she had no
father figure in her life because her father
died when she was young, well before she
was actually born that there was, the responsibility
was given to Zakariya because there was no
father figure for her, who is going to
look after Maryam this great, she came from
a great family a God fearing family, who
look after her now it was unable for
her at that time to be engaging or
in worship inside the places of worship that
was for men so it is said that
Zakariya peace be upon her built for her
a place of worship specific for her so
she was brought up as a known abida
a servant of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
a worshipper of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
wasn't known to be engaging in market places
and wasting time none of that that Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala prepared Maryam peace be
upon her for a great responsibility and that
she was brought up by a prophet of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala at that time
the greatest man at the time, Zakariya peace
be upon her and the greatest woman, Maryam
peace be upon her both at the same
time one looking after the other so this
was the plan of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala so she was brought up in the
best of places, with the purest form of
tarbiyah, worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so
here we find that Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala in this surah surah Maryam talks about
that Maryam that she then withdraws from her
family towards a place in the east not
Kashmir or Pakistan or India or the Arabian
Peninsula nowhere like that but it is said
that east of Baitul Maqdis because we are
talking about where did they live they lived
where?
they lived in Palestine they lived in Palestine
Masjid al Aqsa, Baitul Maqdis this place, a
place in which Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
blessed which is mentioned in what?
Surah Al-Isra, Barakuna Hawla a place is
very blessed by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
this is where they lived so it is
mentioned here in this verse that she takes
or withdraws from her people to an eastern
place and there she took in seclusion a
screen, so she is there away from people
again worshipping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala not
publicly but she takes a hijab as is
mentioned by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala seclusion,
it is a barrier between her and the
people, so when she worships Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala, it is between her and her
Lord, sincerity to Allah jalla wa ala then
at this time because we are talking about
a woman who does not mix with men
doesn't engage in such illicit behaviour talking about
the best of the purest of upbringing as
I mentioned to you and so here Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala commands the angel Jibreel
alayhi salam to deliver a message to Maryam
now the angel Jibreel alayhi salam is the
same angel Jibreel that came to the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and who came to
Musa alayhi salam who delivered the Wahi to
the Prophets to see the angel Jibreel alayhi
salam in their original form is not an
easy thing and we know how the Prophet
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was when he first
received the revelation the first verses from Surah
Al-Alaq and then he was there in
front of Jibreel and he went back to
Khadija alayhi salam what was his state?
He was fearful shaking, so to see an
angel in their original form is something which
is mukheef, it is fearful, it is scary
however we are talking about for an angel
to appear to her in this manner would
be Allah knows what it would be like
therefore Allah jalla wa ala's mercy did not
send the angel Jibreel alayhi salam in his
original form but rather Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala tells us فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرًا سَوِيًّا that
the angel Jibreel alayhi salam came in the
form of a man came in the form
of a well proportioned normal man and then
her response is her response to see a
man, because she secluded herself away from the
people she says قَالَتْ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ مِنكَ
she says I seek refuge in the most
merciful, and again رَحْمَة, رَحْمَان this is a
common theme specifically in this particular chapter so
she seeks she seeks refuge in الرَّحْمَانِ إِن
كُنتَ تَقِيَّ if you should be fearing of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so she seeks
refuge in Allah jalla wa ala from that
what is unknown to her and like us
we take benefit if something happens to you
that you turn back to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala immediately it's the first thing that
you do and then Jibreel alayhi salam responds
to her there's a conversation between Maryam alayhi
salam and Jibreel alayhi salam conversation so Jibreel
alayhi salam he says to her here I
am only the messenger the messenger of who?
the messenger of your lord to give you
the good news of a pure boy how
can I be pregnant how can I have
a son when no man has ever touched
me and I've never engaged in such behavior
funication I've never done such a thing how
can this be that's the immediate answer how
can I have a child when as we
know that through the umbrella of marriage husband
and wife and then they have children how
can this be I am not under the
umbrella of marriage nor have I engaged in
such behavior how can this be and so
as we know that as Jibreel alayhi salam
he responds thus it will be as your
lord has said it will be as your
lord has said so this is from Allah
subhana wa ta'ala and that it is
easy for Allah subhana wa ta'ala to
command and decree this matter and we will
make him a sign to the people and
a mercy from us and it is a
matter that has already been decreed so she
is alayhi salam has given this information that
she will have a son and that this
son will not be just a sign for
Banu Israel this is very important because Musa
alayhi salam is a prophet to who, he
was sent to Banu Israel and yes Isa
alayhi salam was a prophet sent to Banu
Israel yes no one will disagree however Allah
subhana wa ta'ala says we will make
Isa alayhi salam a sign for people, mankind
everybody and so when we are talking here
in the year 2023 Isa alayhi salam yes
a prophet sent sent to Banu Israel however
the story of Isa alayhi salam is yet
to conclude, it is not over the story
of Isa alayhi salam there are chapters still
to play out and so when he returns
alayhi salatu salam we know what happens when
he kills the Dajjal and there is yet
Juj and Majuj so there are many things
yet to happen and this will be a
sign for mankind so these are if you
like small details in pondering over the verses
of Allah subhana wa ta'ala how we
can understand them and so this news is
given to Maryam alayhi salam and so then
she conceives the story goes forward now in
the next verse she conceives Isa alayhi salam
she has become pregnant and then she withdraws
to a place, to a remote place a
far away place that is not near her
people for her to be pregnant amongst her
people is not something that the people knew
at that time you didn't have people getting
pregnant outside of marriage and this kind of
behavior it wasn't something public at all so
she withdrew to a place to be pregnant
alone nobody there with her alone it's not
like you know when for the fathers out
here for the fathers out here and when
you went to the hospital to find out
that your wife is pregnant and then alhamdulillah
you're so happy and then you have a
number of midwife appointments and then maybe I
don't know around maybe 6 or 7 months
something like this maybe after depends on the
hospital I guess they give you a form
and on the form they say to you
ok what type of birth you want water
birth, normal birth this birth, do you want
the ball there do you want this, what
type of pain treatment do you want, epidural
painkillers, gas, air it's like I don't know
when you go to maybe a restaurant you
say I want this I want this, I
want this, I want this and then after
a while all these things come to you
before you go to the hospital, this type
of pain relief this type of birth birthing
center, you know on the ward, however you
like whatever makes you comfortable, whatever you're happy
with you are a great blessing from Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala that the fact that
you have those choices so Maryam a.s.
had no such thing like that, no choices
no this or that, she's alone now imagine
even though we are not given like the
details of it but you know as a
human being subhanallah, that on a human level
how that must be so as Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala tells us and when the
pains of childbirth come to her she's at
the trunk of a date tree and she
says oh I wish I had died before
this and was in oblivion, forgotten now it's
important we understand this statement this isn't her
wishing to die or if you like wishing
or rejecting what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has decreed for her because if you think
about what has happened that Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala sent to her the angel Jibreel
and the angel Jibreel a.s. came to
her and gave her the news that she
will conceive a boy a son and that
he will be assigned to mankind and she's
not married not engaged in such, what is
her people going to say, how is she
going to take and fulfill this responsibility you
know, how am I supposed to do this
I mean I wish this responsibility was given
to somebody else, not me at that time
now, are we allowed to ask Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala take my life, if I'm
going through a calamity the origin is that
no, we don't ask, you don't wish to
die you don't wish to die however, if
a servant makes dua to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala that you are in a situation
if mawt is better for you if death
is better for you then let it be
written but if life, to remain alive and
to be patient is better for you, then
allow that to be written for you if
you want to ask Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala concerning any situation, if it is really
severe, then you may say that oh Allah,
if it is better that I'm not here,
you take me from this, and it's better
for me then do so, decree that but
likewise, if it is better that I am
alive I am patient, and show determination, that's
better for me then allow that to be
as well so this is her situation, about
to give birth now, when she gives birth
and she's there with her child the baby
Isa a.s. all alone gave birth alone
she is in a state that she needs
to be consoled, no doubt when you see
amongst ourselves a person who's down and feeling
such a manner you console them, but she's
alone and who is there to console her
so here Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions
فَنَادَهَا مِن تَحْتِهَا فَنَادَهَا مِن تَحْتِهَا so there
was a call that said to her, من
تحتها من تحتها that who was below her
and there's two understandings that who said this
to her أَلَّا تَحْزَنِي that do not be
afraid, do not grieve one opinion is that
it was the angel Jibreel a.s. said
to her don't grieve another opinion is that
in fact it was her son, Isa a
.s who said to her أَلَّا تَحْزَنِي قَدَ
جَعَلَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّكِ تَحْتِكِ سَرِيَّا that it is
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala your Lord who's
made for you a stream next to you
so first and foremost there's a a consoling
to her that do not be afraid and
do not grieve and then secondly there is
your Lord has made for you a stream
at your feet so then you may ask
what's the benefit of a stream of water
there I don't get it I don't understand
and that's maybe a valid question we also
know that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala told
her to shake towards you the trunk of
the tree and that ripe dates that you
can have provisions so the fact that there
is at this particular time the bringing about
of water and food provisions whereas she didn't
have that so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
gave to her water for provisions for purity
and food to keep her there to keep
her going and you cannot belittle the importance
of having provisions and also bear in mind
that it was said to her that do
not be afraid and do not grieve so
two things are mentioned to her specifically number
one that she is secure she is secure
she is safe don't grieve, don't be afraid
and secondly that there are provisions here for
you and there is water and there is
dates these two things provisions and security Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions them in a
particular chapter of the Quran who knows surah
al-Quraysh لِإِلَىٰ فِي قُرَيْشِ you know the
chapter?
what is Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala two
things that are mentioned concerning the people of
the Quraysh does anybody know who can tell
me الَّذِي أَطُعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala gave them provisions protected them from
being hungry وَآمَنَهُم مِّن خَوْفٍ and gave them
security didn't allow them to be in a
state of fear so security and provisions are
of the most important things for us to
survive as human beings let us place those
two things right now let's place those two
things on a live example what are the
two things that the people of Gaza don't
have what are they?
they have no provisions and they have no
security none and if you were to ask
them if you were to ask them what
are the things that you need security no
more bombs, no more killing no more indiscriminate
murdering and snipers and this and that we
want security, we want to be safe we
want our children to go in the street
to be able to play with a ball
and bike and not fear that a sniper
will shoot them or that they'll be imprisoned
they want security and secondly we want to
be able to eat and drink provisions so
in Surah Al-Quraysh it is mentioned in
that way and here it is mentioned in
another way how Maryam A.S she needed
that she needed security to be consoled not
to be fearful and that provisions were provided
ordinarily who will provide that of course it
is Allah but practically Allah allows who to
provide those things who will provide the security
and who will provide the provisions for his
family there's a clue in what I've just
said, his family it's the husband right, it's
the father agreed, but there is no father
here there is no husband there so Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala took care of those
things for her but as a reminder for
us as well for fathers, for husbands that
is your responsibility to make sure that your
family is safe and that you provide for
them these are two things that you strive
for and so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
says concerning this situation so eat and drink
and be contented and if you see from
among humanity anyone, say indeed I have vowed
to the most merciful abstention, so I will
not speak to anyone I will not speak
to anyone so from this time now, you
don't say anything she has been commanded not
to say anything not to speak to anybody
so the time is coming soon she will
have to go back to her people so
as Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he then
mentions that Maryam alayhi salam then goes back
to her people holding a baby again, try
to imagine the scene, here we have Maryam
alayhi salam brought up by who?
Zakaria alayhi salam a prophet of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala brought up in the best
of ways the most beautiful of ways, the
purest of people a known servant and abida
a known servant of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala suddenly appears with a child we are
talking about communities that they know each other
she is not married how is she holding
a child?
maybe the child maybe the child could be
somebody else's she could be holding the child
maybe it's one of her aunt, cousin could
be anyone's child however the people that were
with her at the time did not place
forth an excuse to say maybe it's the
baby of somebody else no straight away straight
for the attack oh Maryam this thing that
you have done, we've never seen this before
we don't know this kind of behaviour not
placing an excuse that you have come from
a good people everything we've known about you
from day one is good, sound, righteous no
but the person fell in their eyes immediately
you have appeared with something, we don't know
this behaviour how is it you've got this
baby we know that you are not married
we know that, what is this?
what has happened?
and then they say to her, oh sister
of Haroon the question is now, who is
Haroon?
does she have a brother Haroon?
not that we know of Haroon at the
time of Musa maybe more than a thousand
years before so who is this?
they are addressing her oh sister of Haroon
that your father was not involved in such
behaviour nor was your mother involved in such
behaviour so it is number of answers, in
fact the Prophet when he debated with the
people of Najran about the ninth year after
Hijra, they asked the Prophet that who is
this Haroon that is in reference that we
find in one of your chapters and so
here the Prophet said that the people the
righteous people would be named and referred to
the righteous amongst themselves as well would be
considered that here this Haroon individual is not
the Prophet of Haroon his opinion is mentioned
but it is one of the weaker opinions
but nonetheless it was a righteous and well
known person so you are the sister of
this righteous person, not blood sister that is
how they would address one another so they
recognised her status as a righteous person oh
sister of this Haroon righteous person your father
didn't engage in this, your mother didn't engage
in this, what is happening here now as
we remember that Maryam was told not to
respond not to talk to them and when
you are dealing with such people the more
you speak, the more they are going to
belay you, they are not going to listen
to you because you can see from their
reaction from the very start they are not
in a position or in a way that
they want to listen to anybody for this
reason she was told not to speak not
to respond to these false and filthy accusations
and again we take benefit that sometimes you
know people talk about a lot of things
you don't always have to respond you don't
always have to talk you have to say
anything, don't feel compelled don't feel coerced that
you need to respond you don't the majority
of the time you don't need to say
anything you know yourself what you have done
you will be accountable to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala not the sufaha not the you
know weak minded people so her response is
as Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells us
she points to the baby she points to
the baby she points to the baby that
she is holding Isa a.s Isa a
.s in this mocking fashion how can we
speak to a child that's in the cradle,
a baby you're pointing to a child that
we are to talk to, to speak to
how can we speak to a child who
has not the ability to speak they say
this in a mocking fashion how can we
converse with an infant so the response here
is emphatic the response is eloquent because they
are of course the words of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala but you see how Isa
a.s responds and the response that is
mentioned here ten things are mentioned ten things
are mentioned so what are these ten things
so the first thing that Isa a.s
he says قَالَ إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهُ I am
a servant of Allah, which is a refutation
immediately of Nasara I'm not to be worshipped
even though this hasn't come about yet the
number one إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهُ آتَانِي الْكِتَابُ and
that I was given the book I was
given the Injeel which is a refutation of
those who rejected him as a prophet so
Isa a.s mentions immediately with these two
answers the true position of who Isa a
.s he was he was a servant of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and a prophet
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala وَجَعَلَنِي نَبِيَّ
the fact that he was given the Injeel
is that he is a prophet so it's
two things that are mentioned وَجَعَلَنِي مُبَارَكَ وَجَعَلَنِي
مُبَارَكَ and that he subhanahu wa ta'ala
made me a blessed person أَيْنَمَا كُنتُ wherever
I am number what?
number 3 or number 4?
number 3 صح وَأَوْصَانِي بِالصَّلَاةِ number 4 and
commanded me with prayer number 5 وَالزَّكَاهِ مَا
دُمْتُ حَيَّ number 5 was giving zakah charity
as long as I am alive this is
the fifth thing that is mentioned وَبَرًّا بِوَالِيَدَتِ
number 6 is to be obedient to my
mother وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِي جَبَّارًا شَقِيَّ number 7 is
that he did not make me a wretched
tyrant an oppressor وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيَّ and peace be
upon me يَوْمَ وُلِدْتُ the day that I
was born وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ the day that I
will die وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيَّ and the day
that I will be raised to life again
10 things then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
says after these things this statement of Isa
and Ibn Abbas says that after this time
that Isa did not speak in the cradle
again didn't speak as a child anymore after
this, after defending his mother and that the
story of Isa that mentioned any more details
is about another 30 years later, if you
go to the Quran there's no real stories
of Isa as a teenager as around 30
or so so there's a big gap however
these 10 things that are mentioned refutation of
those who believe he won't return, all of
these things subhanallah, Allah jalla wa'ala mentioned,
then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says ذَٰلِكَ
عِيسَىٰ بُنُ مَرِيَمِ that is Isa the son
of Mary قَوْلَ الْحَقِّ the statement of truth
الَّذِي فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ a statement of truth in
which that they are in doubt or differing
about so when you read the context and
you read and you ponder over it you
see how powerful the words of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala are ذَٰلِكَ عِيسَىٰ بُنُ مَرِيَمِ
and as a Muslim it gives you if
you like a calmness and a happiness and
a raising of iman that how Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala addresses these issues لا غُبار
علي it's not confusion it's so beautiful how
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala describes the status
of the best of people that ever existed
and then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he
mentions to us وَمَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ يَتَّخِذَ مِنْ
وَلَدٍ that is not befitting that Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala that he takes a son
سُبْحَانَهُ glory be to him how perfect Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala is that if he
subhanahu wa ta'ala commands a matter for
it to be he merely says كُنْ فَيُكُون
be and it is so remember the times
you make dua remember the times that something
you're waiting when is the help of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala going to come when
is our situation going to get better, when
is it going to improve now we need
years we need years, we need months we
need generations we don't think like that if
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala إِذْ أَرَادَ شَيْئًا
if Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wills a
matter he merely says كُنْ فَيُكُون be and
it is we need people to stand up
for the Deen of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala and we need more of them Allah
azza wa jal will decree that for us
so these things they give strength of Iman
to the believer وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوهُ
وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوهُ that indeed Allah
is my lord and your lord so worship
him هذا صِرَاطٌ مُسْتَقِيمٌ هذا صِرَاطٌ مُسْتَقِيمٌ that
is the straight path that's the straight path
so from verses 1 to 15 you have
the story of Zakari a.s partially and
Yahya a.s and some of his attributes
and then from the verses onwards up to
number 36 another 20 verses or so you
have the story the birth or the conceiving
and the birth of Isa a.s and
it concludes and this is actually where we
are going to stop that this is the
straight path and in all of your salawat
and all of your prayers you say اِهْدِنَا
الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمُ oh Allah guide us to the
straight path صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ اَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ the path
which you have bestowed your blessings and mercy
upon غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِينَ not the
path of those who have earned your anger
those who know the truth but reject it
they are غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِينَ and
those who have just gone astray who have
no knowledge who are ignorant and then act
upon that ignorance so every salah you ask
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to protect you
not to be from those two types of
people those two types of people who have
misunderstandings concerning Isa a.s either worshipping him
عِيَذٍ بِاللَّهِ or believing that he is a
false essentially a liar so these are two
extremes in that matter and this is something
that you ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
everyday to protect you from for that reason
you say آمِن the dua that you are
making at the end of surah al-fatihah
what do you say?
you say آمِن so this is important as
you understanding what you are saying in your
salah and it enriches your understanding when you
are reciting so the next time maybe that
when you are reciting surah al-fatihah and
you come to the end غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمُ
الْأَبْضَالِّينَ from the misguidance of those who have
earned the anger of Allah subhanahu wa ta
'ala isn't that what they say concerning Isa
and الضالين likewise what they say concerning Isa
a.s. that you are asking Allah jalla
wa ala to understand and be upon the
correct understanding of whom Isa a.s. who
he is just one element of part of
our Aqeedah or part of our faith concerning
the Prophets and with that we will conclude
