AI: Summary ©
No, no, you're good, you're good, you're good,
you're good.
That's okay.
It's just a little tight.
Huh?
I know it's a lot of space.
It's like just a little bit.
Huh?
Oh, okay.
That's that?
We're good?
Abdulrahman, sir?
Bismillah...
Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim.
Alhamdulillahi rabbil alameen.
Wassalatu wassalam ala sayyidina wa nabiyyina wa mawlana
Muhammad wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wasalam.
Allahumma inna nas'aluka hubbak wa hubba man
arham ar-Rahimeen.
We ask Allah Subhanu wa Ta'ala for
his love.
We ask Allah Subhanu wa Ta'ala for
the love of those actions that will gain
his love.
And we ask Allah Subhanu wa Ta'ala
for the love of the people that he
loves.
Insha'Allah Ta'ala.
We make our intention based on the hadith
of the Rasul Sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
The hadith tells us that any time a
gathering of people gather in the house of
Allah, remembering Allah or reflecting on the Qur
'an, the angels surround that gathering.
And nazalat alayhimu s-sakinah.
And tranquility descends on that gathering.
And so here we are this evening insha
'Allah Ta'ala continuing through the beautiful verses
of Surat al-Hadid.
Surat al-Hadid is a very powerful surah.
We mentioned in the previous sessions that the
reason this surah was revealed is because it
was in a time of Medina where everyone
started to relax a little bit.
Meaning the first years of this mission took
a lot of mujahidah.
It took grind, it took sacrifice.
But then later in the years what happened
is the futuhat started to happen, the victory
started to come.
And as the victory started to come, then
people started to relax a little bit.
Like, you know, we put in work, now
the youngins, the young guys, they could put
in work now.
And this surah was revealed to say, no,
we have to keep grinding, we have to
keep on struggling because struggle is where we
find success spiritually.
And last week we ended with a beautiful
verse.
And I'll start with that verse for tonight
insha'Allah.
We're starting from verse number 16 of Surat
al-Hadid.
Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim.
Allah Subhanu wa ta'ala, He says, Has
not the time come?
Notice how Allah speaks to us with a
question.
As I said in our last halaqah, you're
not supposed to be passively just listening to
the Quran, it's a dialogue, Allah is speaking
to you.
And in a conversation you have to respond,
right?
So if someone asks you a question, then
you respond to the question.
And I gave the example of Wifey, she's
always like, did you hear what I just
said?
I was like, yeah, yeah, I heard you.
She's like, well, why didn't you say no?
I was like, I answered in my head.
She's like, I can't hear that.
And when the Prophet ﷺ was reciting Surat
al-Rahman, I mentioned this.
He read the verse, what verse did he
recite?
And they were
quiet.
They just sat back and they're like, hmm,
deep verse.
Sahaba were just like, wow.
And the Prophet said, Whoa,
Why is everyone quiet?
He said, the jinn responded better than y
'all.
The jinn responded.
And then the Prophet explained ﷺ, he said
that the jinn, every time I read this
verse, they said, لا يا الله, we won't
deny any of your blessings.
And so what we learn from that is
this transactional relationship with the Book of Allah.
And so when Allah asks a question, then
it behooves us to answer that question, at
least in our minds, in our heart, interacting
with the Quran.
So Allah ﷻ, He says,
Has not the time
come for those who believe, the believers, أن
تَقْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ for their hearts to have خَشْيَة.
خَشَعَة is fear, but it's not just fear,
it's like this awe.
This fear, the hearts gain this awe, where
the most important thing in the heart is
Allah.
Due to the
remembrance of God.
And to fear due
to what has been revealed.
This is beautiful because the heart needs two
things in order to survive.
In order for the heart to thrive spiritually,
there's two things that it needs.
It needs regular remembrance of God and regular
recitation of the Quran.
See, here's the idea, you have to understand
that things are nourished by where they came
from, if that makes sense.
So the body comes from dirt.
So the only thing that nurtures or nourishes
the body is everything that grows from the
ground.
Gotta get your macros and micros in, protein,
whatever.
Vegan or however you eat, I don't care.
But everything is coming from the ground because
the body is from the ground.
But the soul is not from this earth.
The soul is
a command from God.
So the only way to nurture and nourish
the soul is by that which came from
God.
That's where the dhikr of Allah.
And so sometimes, you know, when we're fasting
and we start to feel weak, we know
that I gotta get some caloric something in
me.
Sometimes we have to learn how to realize
when I'm spiritually low on calories.
I'm calorie deficient spiritually.
Bro, it's time to plug in.
I'm going to Syria intensive, yo.
It's time to plug in, Wednesday night, Tuesday
night, Thursday, whatever.
Dallas, you go there all week.
The point is, it doesn't matter where.
It's that your soul needs that.
So Allah ﷻ, He says, it's a beautiful
verse.
He says, عَلَمْ يَعْنِي Has not the time
come?
It's a question.
Now all of us are in different levels
of spirituality.
It doesn't matter what level you're at.
You could have been gone last night and
just rolled up here, whatever.
It doesn't matter.
What matters is that you answer the question,
has not the time come?
You say, yes, time is now.
Has not the time come for those
who believe?
For their hearts to have
awe, fear.
We talked about fear last week.
It's the fear of disappointing the one that
loves you the most.
That's the fear.
The fear of disappointing the one that loves
you the most.
And do not
be like.
Let them not be like.
Speaking to me and you.
Let them not be like those who were
given the book before.
The Christians and the Jews.
Allah says clear.
They had the book too long and they
got used to it.
They got used to it.
So subhanAllah, you have to ask Allah, Oh
Allah, keep my heart soft.
Keep my heart soft.
And what that means is that every time
you pick it up, you pick it up
like it's the first time again.
And their hearts
became hard.
Allah protect us from hard hearts.
And He says so many
of them, they had the book.
This verse is deep because it's really speaking
to the ulama and scholars of the deen.
Because the ulama and the scholars, they're studying
the Quran all day, they're reading hadith all
day.
What happens is the heart gets hard.
You come to this once a week, you
The Prophet said,
Allah said.
You're like, Nah, I need it, alhamdulillah.
But when you're saying that all day, you
have to beg Allah, Oh Allah, keep my
heart soft.
Oh Allah, keep my heart soft.
And I said last week, the Prophet said
the worst job is what job?
The grave digger.
Because visiting the grave is beneficial, but being
there every day all day is not beneficial,
you get used to death.
Then what does Allah say next?
اِعْلَمُ Now whenever Allah says اِعْلَمُ you have
to think of it like this.
You remember in class when the teacher would,
like the teacher's teaching and everything's important, everything
can come on the exam.
But if you have a good teacher every
now and then, they're like, Yo, yo.
This right here, you gotta know this.
And the good students, I'm in Jibreel, mashaAllah.
The good students, they'll mark it down.
They're like, Yo, he said pay attention here.
Right here Allah says اِعْلَمُ and know this.
A command, know.
Understand, know this.
Wait, hold on.
Wasn't I supposed to understand and know the
whole book?
Yeah, but this is even more important.
Know and understand.
And the other thing about اِعْلَمُ is when
you know something gonna come on the exam,
that means you should study it more often,
repetition.
That means you should go over this lesson
a few times because on the midterm it's
gonna come.
So you know what?
Let me go over that thing that the
teacher said, Hey, this is gonna come.
Allah says اِعْلَمُ Know, know.
There's another level of اِعْلَمُ too I'll explain
in a minute.
But listen to the verse.
Know
that indeed Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala يُحْيِي
He gives life to the
earth after it was dead.
Subhanallah.
You know, they say there are two ayatullah.
Now don't take me out of context but
they say there's two kitabullah, two types of
kitabullah.
One kitabullah, book of Allah is the one
you read.
The other book of Allah is nature and
everything Allah created.
And throughout the Quran Allah calls us, look
at the horizon, look at the sunset, look
at the plants, look at the rain.
And I've said this before, become a child
again to nature, yo.
You remember when you were young or maybe
you have a little brother or a little
sister and you go for a walk with
them and they're amazed at the simplest thing.
Wallahi, I wish Allah give us that back.
The example I gave all the time, y
'all heard it before, is how's the rain
come from the clouds?
My kids are older now, they think they
know everything.
They used to ask these questions, now they
telling me.
Anyways, I was about to digress but I
ain't gonna do it.
May Allah give us that curiosity again.
They used to ask, they're like, yo Shaykh,
not Shaykh, they said dad.
They don't call me Shaykh, they call me
dad.
They said dad, like how is all that
water in the clouds?
And at first you kind of just like,
Adi, like it's nothing, bro.
It's like, but then you think, you're like,
whoa, hold up, hold up, hold up.
And I know we all did in eighth
grade, the cycle walk, I got you.
I got you.
I could watch Discovery Channel too.
I could watch National Geographic too.
I got you.
But it doesn't, just because you name it
doesn't make the miracle any less miraculous.
That's the key.
We put a name on it.
It's like, oh, that's gravity.
It's like, so what, it's still amazing.
So what, it's still amazing.
And so Allah brings our attention to something
that we would see often.
It's winter time right now.
All of the trees are dying, leaves are
falling.
Dormant as we call it.
Dormant is the word for it.
The trees are dormant.
Dormant is just a word for potential life.
And I came across something ajeeb.
I don't even remember where I read it
years ago, like two years ago, about a
seed that was discovered in an archeological dig.
They discovered a seed that had not germinated.
And it was from hundreds or thousands of
years ago.
And they were able to germinate this seed
that was dormant.
The potential for life.
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى says, no, no.
It is Allah that brings life
back to the earth after it's dead.
What's so beautiful about this verse is the
verse right before said, may Allah protect us
from having a hard heart, a dead heart.
A dead heart.
See, so look, when you callous skin, the
skin cells die and they lose feeling.
They lose feeling.
And what we want is hearts that feel.
They feel, they feel something.
And Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى in the previous
verse, He talked about people who got hard
hearts, يعني dead hearts.
And right after that verse, He says, there's
something you got to know.
It's gonna come on the exam or you
got to read it every week.
Wait, why
did Allah all of a sudden just tell
me about some aspect of biology that Allah
brings back the plants after they were dormant.
Because your heart that is hard, someone in
the gathering, someone reading was like, that's my
heart.
I'm done now.
My heart's hard, Sheikh.
My heart is hard.
What do I do?
The very next verse, Allah said, اعْلَمُ Know
this.
Know this fact.
Allah will
bring back the heart.
Allah will bring back the same way that
water comes down, that revelation comes down.
And that's why you should always attend the
gatherings of ilm.
The gatherings of knowledge are not that every
moment you're going to be inspired.
But in one moment, you'll get that drop
of rainwater, that one verse, it will hit
you.
You're good for the next like three months,
bro.
You're good for the next three months.
You're like, I'm good.
And it's like, why?
What happened?
I heard a hadith, yo, it's crazy.
I heard a hadith, it's amazing.
So this idea is understanding that nourishment that
our souls need, it brings the heart back
to life after the heart was dead.
And
And notice how Allah wants you.
Notice how Allah doesn't say, hey, look at
how I bring the earth back to life
after it was dormant.
I could do that to your heart too.
It just tells us to look at nature
and reflect on it.
Become people of reflection on nature again.
I had a, he was older than me.
I would say he was a mentor.
It was like eight years ago.
And he worked at NIH, NIH, NIH, National
Health Institute.
We were back in DC.
And he was a scientist, right?
Mad religious, mashallah.
But some high-level scientist.
And he was like, you know, we'd be
in NIH doing studies and stuff, looking at
some crazy stuff.
And he'd say, all my colleagues would be
like, wow, wow.
And he's like, I'd sit there being like,
subhanAllah, subhanAllah, subhanAllah.
I was constantly amazed of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala by looking at nature.
Two books of Allah.
One you read, the other you look in
the horizons and see.
Let's go forward.
Know
that indeed Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, He
brings life back to the earth after it
was dormant, it was dead.
That also shows that your heart that you
think is dead isn't dead, it's dormant.
And I don't care what level of low
iman you get to, a little water will
bring it back.
It's dormant, it's not dead.
There's no one walking yet, except that there's
potential for life to come in their heart.
Umar was on his way to kill the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and what happened?
He heard a verse, water hit the seed,
broke through, germination.
We got a tree called Umar.
The fruit, later fruit, people just picking fruit
till 1400 years later.
From this tree, Umar, we're picking fruit from
till today.
So you never lose hope in yourself, and
you never lose hope in anyone.
I had a teacher, we would just be
walking around just anywhere, he'd look at a
random person and be like, Ya Allah, give
him hidayah.
Random person, just, I don't know, you never
know.
Allah says, I have
explained for you verse signs.
So you think, so you reflect.
This world is for you to reflect on
and look at.
Next verse.
Verse number 18, this is a new verse.
We did that verse, we just did, we
did that last week.
Allah says, Indeed, those men
who give charity and those women who give
charity.
Why are we talking about charity?
Because charity is directly connected to iman.
Your ability to reach in your pocket and
give depends on your level of iman.
Because, because you're giving it up.
But here's the crazy part, it's a symbiotic
relationship.
Because your iman grows by giving and giving,
they just work together.
And we mentioned that before.
Indeed, those
men who give charity.
And those women who give charity.
And they loan God
a loan.
This is crazy.
Because Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is making
us realize and through the word loan, make
us think.
Why?
Just think everyone in the room.
Why does Allah say loan?
When someone says, loan me, what do you
think?
They're going to give it back to you.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says, I own
this all, but can I borrow that?
I own all of this, but can I
borrow that?
Of course you could borrow it, you gave
it to me.
And that's why Abu Dahda, when he heard
the verse prior, he said, Ya Rasulullah, Allah
asked us for a qard, a loan?
He said, yes.
He said, my whole garden is a loan.
Give it to him.
So Allah never takes, He only
gives.
Allah never takes, He only gives.
You know what teaches us that?
The surah, surah al-Kahf.
Khidr broke the ship.
Khidr took a child from him.
You read that surah the first time, you're
like, oh my God.
You know, the three things that Khidr did.
He broke the ship, and at first we're
like, all right, cool.
He killed the kid, we're like, all right,
yeah.
And then the last thing he did, he
fixed the wall, we're like, yeah, good.
But taking, taking, taking.
They say matter in the universe never goes
away, it just changes form.
No energy is lost in the universe, it
just changes form.
That's crazy.
Allah never takes away.
But here's the deal.
Why do you need to know that?
Because when you have those glasses on, you're
able to see the, you're able to look
past the moment and see the blessing that's
there.
So you have to read this regular, like
Allah never takes, He only gives.
And His taking is giving.
Allah says, I'm
only taking it to multiply it for you.
He'll multiply it.
He'll multiply it.
What does that mean?
Returns on investment, ROI.
And the returns on investment are based on
one factor only.
Not how much.
You guys know, compound returns is crazy.
Y'all done seen the YouTube videos?
Come on now.
I ain't the only one that's seen the
power of compound.
So subhanAllah, they say if you were like
14, 15 and you just put like 5
bucks, 10% return.
Y'all know the deal.
I don't even know.
I'm just going off the top of my
head.
What's amazing is it doesn't matter how much
you give.
Because Allah says, يُضَعَفُ لَهُمْ Allah will multiply
it.
That's why now it makes sense.
The Prophet, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he said, there
will come a time when people, Muslims, believers,
will give them the equal of a mountain
of Uhud in charity.
But it won't equal one handful of wheat
that my Sahaba give.
Because of the compounding.
But here's the question.
What's the key factor in the compound?
Tell me.
Intention.
Intention.
Intention, intention, intention, intention, intention.
And don't do so much question of intention
that you don't give.
This is where Shaitaan, you heard this now,
Shaitaan's like, I got you.
You're about to give a hadiyah, you're like,
no, no.
Shaitaan's like, no, you got to fix your
intention next week.
And then you never give.
No, give.
But just say to yourself, this is only
for Allah.
Shaitaan will say, but yeah, but people, it's
only for Allah.
Only for Allah.
Only for Allah.
Haters will make fun of you no matter
what.
You give a lot, they'll hate.
You give a little, they'll hate.
That's what happened in the Qur'an tells
us.
You just correct the intention.
Allah multiplies it.
So give that little bit.
Sadaqah is powerful.
Sadaqah is powerful.
There's a narration about charity.
I'll just narrate one hadith on charity.
We submit to Rasulullah ﷺ.
Uqbat ibn Amir, he says, I heard the
Prophet ﷺ say,
Every person will be in the shade of
their charity on the day of judgment until
the judgment is over.
How big shade do you want?
How little shade do you want?
Abu al-Khair, he used to say,
He says, a day wouldn't pass except
that Abu al-Khair gave some sadaqah even
if it was a biscuit.
I was reading with Sheikh Sa'ad.
We're reading Qur'an with him and he'll
just break a cracker and give it to
you.
Like, Sheikh, I'm trying to read.
He's like, no, take it.
All right, cool, you bite that.
Yeah, I'm not even hungry.
It's after fajr.
I'm just trying to read Qur'an.
Sheikh's like, no, eat it.
Sadaqah, small sadaqah every single day because of
the compounding.
And that's when we start to get older
and we look forward to Jannah.
Because we don't do the math, but low
-key you'll start doing the math.
You'll be like, man, 40 years I've been
doing sadaqah.
That's pretty nice, yo.
And you start to look forward to Jannah.
You start to look forward to Jannah.
You know what some people try to do
though in economics, right?
They get to the age of 40, 45,
they never invest it.
Y'all know the rest of the equations.
You can never match somebody that gave a
little bit from Jump Street.
Is this correct?
Any economics majors up in here?
You can never match someone who was given
a small amount from early on and you're
throwing large sums later on, you'll never catch
that person.
So if you're telling me I can't give
sadaqah because I don't have it, I'm like,
huh?
You're like 19?
You're like 21?
Really?
You know what that's gonna be when you're
60?
Do you know what that's gonna be when
you're 40?
But if you wait and I'm gonna give
it later, y'all already know in economics
that doesn't work.
It doesn't work.
It doesn't work with sadaqah either.
SubhanAllah.
What is the impact of sadaqah?
They say sadaqah, it protects your wealth, number
one.
Number two, sadaqah,
It pulls more rizq.
Charity grows wealth.
There's a famous video now going around about
it.
Prophet said it so long ago,
Ibrahim al-Nakh'i, he used to say,
it'll push away calamities.
It'll push away calamities.
That's what sadaqah does, push away calamities.
And you know what else it does and
this is my favorite.
It causes a person to have حسن الظن
A good opinion of God.
A good opinion of God.
See, again, it's that symbiotic relationship.
The more you're giving, the more it brings
a positive understanding of Allah in your heart.
Now, Allah سبحانه وتعالى let's go to the
next verse.
Why is this verse coming
in the middle?
Because charity is a sign of strong faith.
And the verse is reminding sahaba, it's time
to give sadaqah.
Then Allah سبحانه وتعالى, He says, وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
Amazing.
So in the verse we just did, verse
number 18, Allah speaks about the people who
give sadaqah, who give charity.
And they give a loan to God and
Allah multiplies it.
Oh, I'm sorry, but one
thing.
For them is a kareem
ajar.
You know what kareem?
Kareem is من يُعْتِي إِلَى غَيْرِ مُسْتَحِقٍ It's
the one who gives to someone who don't
deserve it.
That's kareem.
The one who gives to someone who doesn't
deserve it.
So Allah is saying, let me multiply it
and you'll have ajar kareem, more than you
even deserve.
Yani, yo, think for a minute, y'all,
you're walking into Jannah.
You know your life.
You know what you did.
And you're seeing Allah's bounty upon you.
Ajar kareem.
I don't deserve this.
Exactly, you don't deserve it.
He's kareem.
But he appreciates whatever good you do, that's
it.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى, He says, so after this
Oh, amazing.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى, one of the mufassirs, he
says, when the verses came about charity, there
were poor companions that didn't have the wherewithal
to give charity.
And so they would feel like, man, what
about us?
And so they say that this next verse
was in order to show those who could
not give a lot of charity that don't
worry, there's still a high rank for you.
Your route is different.
Everyone has a
different path slash door to Jannah.
You gotta find yours and stop trying to
walk through other people's door.
That's it, just find your door.
What's your door?
Is your door service to people?
Is your door, remember the Sahabi, he said,
I want to go fight
Jihad.
He's like, is your mother alive?
He's like, yeah.
He's like, mother and father?
He's like, فَفِيهِ مَا فَجَاهِد That's your Jannah.
What you trying to go to Tabuk for?
What you trying to go to Jihad for?
You got moms there, dad there.
That's your door.
Our problem, partially due to social media, is
we're trying to walk through other people's door.
Find and ask Allah, Allah, show me what
my path is to Allah.
Show me my path to You, ya Allah.
Walk through that path.
So Sahaba, they heard this verse and they're
like, يا رسول الله, like, ya Allah, this
is, we don't have charity.
So they came to the Rasul ﷺ, this
hadith is sahih.
A group
of people came to the Prophet ﷺ.
Now imagine their feeling.
When you hear the hadith, you got to
imagine you're there.
Imagine you're watching this.
A group of companions came to the Prophet
ﷺ.
قالوا, they said, you're watching it.
O Prophet of Allah, the
people with all the money, they take all
the good deeds.
Imagine you're hearing this.
They pray the way we
pray.
They fast the way we
fast.
And they give charity of
their extra wealth.
But we don't have any
money.
This is their complaint.
First of all, look at the level of
iman.
The complaint is we don't have money for
charity.
That's the complaint.
Amazing level.
The Prophet says, hasn't Allah given you
something to give sadaqa with?
They're like, what do you mean?
Every SubhanAllah
is sadaqa.
وَكُلُّ تَحْمِيدَ صَدَقًا Every time you say, الحَمْدُ
See, we take dhikr lightly.
Dhikr is powerful.
Not just for your akhira, I'mma get there.
But first and foremost, what it does to
your heart.
Dhikr is powerful.
And if there's one thing you should make
dua, Oh Allah, make my tongue always moist
in your remembrance.
There's a narration that says,
They complaining to HR about you.
She always moving her lips all the time.
What's he doing?
He may freaking me out, weird.
Nah man, dhikr, dhikr, dhikr.
Dhikr, now people got headphones in, you don't
even know who they talking to.
Just put your headphones in.
SubhanAllah, subhanAllah, subhanAllah.
SubhanAllah.
But you gotta realize, when you realize that's
currency, when you realize the effect that has
on the day of judgment, when you realize
like every moment I'm on the clock.
I heard a sheikh say, he's like Muslims,
we never dealt with boredom in the old
times.
Because you were always on the clock.
Like I'm waiting in the line at Kroger,
like I'm not bored.
SubhanAllah, subhanAllah.
I'm in traffic, all of a sudden it
slows down.
Yeah, I would like to go quicker.
SubhanAllah.
help someone to good is صدقة and to
prevent someone from bad is صدقة.
Indeed, those
who believe.
What's crazy is this verse is speaking to
believers already.
They're already believers.
Allahu
Akbar Allah says, and those who truly believe
in Allah and the Rusul.
Notice it says Rusul.
Perfect day to mention because we believe in
all the prophets.
All
the Anbiya.
Rusul is plural.
It means all of them.
أولئك هم الصديقون They are the صديقون What
is صدقة mean in Arabic?
It means to speak truth.
Speak truth is not speak a lie.
But صديق is a different level.
صديق is when the words, the actions match
the word.
And the only translation for
They are the true ones.
I got another translation.
This is تفسير ميكائيلي, okay?
They are the real ones.
They are the real ones.
Let me tell you why I say the
real ones.
When you say in Arabic صادق الوعد It
doesn't just mean true and promise.
It means if you say he's my صديق
He's my friend صادق That means he's my
true friend not just in word but action.
If you said صادق في القتال It would
mean he's a true fighter.
Meaning he's not just a
fighter by word.
His actions fulfill the word.
And now let me give you a better
example.
When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was
taken for إسراء المعراج Y'all in Assyrian
intensive right now.
Did y'all do that yet?
There you go, Mashallah.
So you know what I'm about to share.
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was taken
for إسراء المعراج.
This was after the lowest moment taken to
the highest point.
He came back down.
The first one he bumps into is Abu
Jahl.
SubhanAllah.
He says, any new news for us, Muhammad?
Mocking, mocking.
He says, yeah, there is by the way.
He goes, oh really, what?
He goes, I went to Jerusalem last night.
I went to Jerusalem last night.
And Abu Jahl, he goes, now he's playing
it off.
Because he wants the Prophet to not change
his words, as if he would ever.
He doesn't realize who he's dealing with.
But he doesn't want him to change his
words.
So he says, really, really?
Are you going to tell people about this?
He goes, yes.
He says, oh, okay, hold on.
Let me call everyone.
He calls everyone.
He says, Muhammad was telling me something that
he did last night.
Muhammad, why don't you tell them?
And the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم tells
him the story of Islam.
What happened?
Now, they lose it.
They think this is it.
Now, he said everything.
This is it.
They go to different companions and say, hey,
you hear what he's saying now.
They go to Abu Bakr.
What does it mean to believe?
I believe in Muhammad
But what does it mean to be Siddiq?
We find out in this moment.
They say, ya Abu Bakr,
What do you say about your man?
What do you say about your guy?
He says, what happened?
He says that he went to Jerusalem last
night.
See, I don't know if you're all lying,
but if he said it, he's true.
That's a believer.
When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم heard
this, he said these words,
You are a real one.
You're a real one.
That's what Siddiq means.
It's when the external matches the internal.
May Allah give us that.
Because it's easy to speak.
But when the test comes, may Allah not
test us.
May Allah not test us.
Don't ask for a test.
Ask Allah to give you peace and tranquility.
But may Allah make us amongst the Siddiqoon,
the real ones.
So here Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى Now here's
amazing, Qur'an is just next level.
Now here's
what's crazy.
Now in Arabic, أُولَئِكَ is a إسمة إشارة,
it's an indication.
But it's not هَا أُولَئِي It's أُولَئِكَ هَا
أُولَئِي is when something's close.
أُولَئِكَ is when something's far.
But far doesn't necessarily mean distance.
You know how someone is good in a
skill, you be like, yo, you up there.
You up there.
Allah says أُولَئِكَ They.
Now the crazy part is when you hear
they, it creates inside of you, I wanna
be one of them.
They are the Siddiqoon.
In your mind the question is, أُولَئِكَ هُمُ
True belief in
Allah and the Rasul.
And the martyrs are
with their Lord.
The martyrs.
شُهَدَاء has two meanings.
شُهَدَاء are those who die in the path
of God.
The believers around the world who are oppressed
and die in the path of God.
The martyrs are
with Allah SWT.
Don't grieve over them.
Now hold on, let's take it back.
What was the whole surah about?
The whole surah was about the people living
stop slacking.
Like get back on it.
And in order to encourage, Allah says,
عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ The شُهَدَاء already reached y'all.
The شُهَدَاء already reached.
Where are you at?
It's to create that feeling.
I want to be with them.
I want to be with them.
They have their
reward.
Oh, remember we asked Allah give me
my nur.
Remember the beginning of the surah?
It was like, y'all I need nur.
I need nur in my life.
Like nur from Allah, right?
I mean, it goes both ways.
Nur is a name for both sides too.
No, nur from Allah.
I need light on the day of judgment.
I need light.
I need light.
That's what I need.
And we read a dua that the Prophet
would say leaving the masjid at the time
of Fajr.
Who remembers the dua, y'all?
Hold on.
You got it?
اللهم اجعل في قلبي نورا Oh, no, no.
You said في بدني?
You gotta say the whole thing?
You can't just like cliff note it?
You gotta cover it.
You gotta go over it again.
Now it's a beautiful dua the Prophet taught
us to ask Allah for light.
Allah give us light.
And remember he said the ones who walk
in the darkness to the masjid will have
complete light on the day of judgment.
So the shuhada and the siddiqoon So those
who give charity, those who are siddiq, true,
true, the real ones.
Allahu Akbar And the shuhada
Then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he says
And those who kafaru
You know what kafara is?
This verse is gonna come the same word
Kafar This word kafar is interesting The word
kafar in this verse literally verse number 20
It means farmer Kafar means farmer Why?
Where did that come from?
It's because the farmer takes the seed and
covers it up So what's the connection with
a disbeliever and a farmer?
They say because they cover the iman up
They truly know Allah They know Allah They
know the reality But let me cover that
up with a night out on the town
Let me cover that up with something else
Let me cover that up with striving and
grinding Let me cover that up with whatever
you wanna put The world will give you
a thousand things to cover up The heart's
desire for something greater And that's the desire
for Allah Kafar comes from hiding the blessing
Hiding it Putting it under And covering it
with something else Here's the thing Don't think
about other people Ask yourself How many times
am I covering up my need for Allah
with other things?
Let me go shopping real quick Got Amazon
packages coming Gifting yourself stuff You don't even
remember what you ordered SubhanAllah والذين كفروا Those
who disbelieve in God Cover up that iman
وكذبوا and deny They know it's true but
they deny Brothers and sisters We've seen in
the last year People who know what a
genocide is And they're just like, nah You're
like, what?
Like, are you serious?
Or do you know you're lying?
Denial You know, okay, sorry We used
to, we read seerah And sometimes in seerah
We'll be like But why were they denying
him?
Let me give an example There's two yahood
Two yahood Huyay bin Akhtab and his cousin
They come to meet the Prophet ﷺ They
go and meet him On the way home,
they're quiet Pin drop silent They spent the
whole day with him So finally Huyay looks
at his cousin He says, a huwa huwa?
He says, is he him?
A huwa huwa, is he him?
He says, huwa huwa He's him He's him
That aura, right?
He's him He said, what do we do?
We fight him to our last breath You're
reading seerah?
You're like, yo, why?
I'm like, fast forward, 2024 Is that a
genocide?
No How many people have been killed?
Yeah, no You're like, bro, don't you see?
No, we don't, no And
that's why you make a du'a Don't
look at others, ask yourself
Make this du'a Oh Allah, allow me
to see truth as truth And give me
the ability to follow it And allow me
to see falsehood as falsehood And allow me
the ability to stay away from it People
are just blind But this shows us how
They were denying the Prophet of Allah ﷺ
Even though they knew it clear as day
Today we see the same thing happening They
know it clear as day, they deny it
And the only thing you're wondering is like
Do you really think what you're saying is
true?
Those are the
people of the blaze Verse
number 20 This surah If I could say
had one Climatic Moment For me It's this
verse Because ever since I converted It was
this verse That would bring me out of
Heedlessness It was as if Like the
reality of life was being shown to me
And I hate to use Hollywood But it
was red pill, blue pill Do you want
to know the reality or not?
Or do you want to still live with
the Cover over your eyes?
This verse to me Was the verse And
how does it begin?
It begins with اِعْلَمُ What does that mean?
No Like the teacher Remember what I said
about اِعْلَمُ in the beginning اِعْلَمُ is like
the teacher saying Yo, you got to know
this Well I got to know the whole
book No, no, you really got to know
this though What does it say?
It's about the reality of dunya It's powerful
Allah says
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala One more thing
Remember when Allah says اِعْلَمُ It's about repeat
this too This same verse, very similar Comes
in Suratul Kahf Which the Prophet told us
to read every week Same similar verse Very
different, little different But very similar Prophet said
hey, you got to study this surah every
week Every week?
Yeah, every week Why?
Just do it Sets you straight Sets the
mind straight Puts dunya in its reality What
it really is So why is this verse
here?
The whole purpose of this surah Was to
wake people up who started slacking And Allah
at this point After talking about charity He
talks about the main thing حُبَّ الدُّنْيَا Love
of the dunya Love of this world Because
that is the primary thing that holds people
back That's it That's the thing that holds
everyone back So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
SubhanAllah Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says Know
that the reality of this dunya Now let's
talk What is dunya?
Dunya comes from the word duni Which means
close Something close to you And the idea
Of dunya Is preference Of the temporal over
the eternal That's all it is Preference over
that which won't last long Over the akhirah
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari He says And
if there's one session you listen to good
And you connect your heart and open your
heart up Is this one Because if this
one opens up, everything opens up Fakhr al
-Din al-Razi He says The most important
thing Is Keep your heart soft And take
the love of dunya out of your heart
Only two things you need Soft heart And
number two Take the love of the dunya
out of my heart The prophet He said
in a hadith Now hold on Notice the
word What does hub mean?
Love You know when we're kids We use
love and hate real easy When we're kids
We use love and hate real easy I
love pizza It's good I hate this Hate
and love We use them very closely or
very loosely What does hub actually mean?
It means preference of something Over the other
Preference of one thing Over the other So
dunya fi nafsihi This dunya we have Is
a blessing Is a blessing This life Allah
Subhanahu wa ta'ala gave Is a blessing
Everyday you are alive The prophet there were
two brothers One of them died shaheed And
the other was alive And lived another year
And after a year the living brother Saw
his brother in a dream And my memory
Doesn't serve me correctly But he saw that
he was higher Then the other one passed
away The second brother passed away And when
the second brother passed away Someone saw a
dream that the second brother Who wasn't shaheed
but lived a year longer Was in a
higher rank in jannah They said Ya Rasulullah
why?
He's a shaheed He's like didn't he fast
more?
Didn't he pray more?
Didn't he do this more?
Like look at the time He lived longer
Everyday is a blessing And so when we
talk about Dunya We have to realize that
we're not saying That dunya is This world
is not a blessing Everyday you're alive is
a blessing But here's the thing Don't be
owned by what you own Don't be owned
by what you own You're supposed to have
the dunya Not it have you And when
you love something It has you When you
love something It has you It has you
So what is dunya?
Listen to this What's crazy is you would
think as we get older Our love of
dunya goes down Like some of us in
the room Are like 21, 25 And we're
like yeah you know When I'm 45, 55
my love of dunya will drop Hadith of
the Rasul You ready?
Subhanallah The Rasul said The heart of an
older person Stays young in two things Stays
young in two things Love of dunya Number
one Love of dunya Means as you get
older Love of dunya keeps growing And number
two I'm going to do this, I'm going
to do that I'm going to do this,
I'm going to do that I'm going to
do this As you get older the I'm
going to do this grows And to everyone
else they're like Yo bruh Alright cool, Alhamdulillah,
live your life Rasul Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam He
said two things continue to grow young in
a person As the heart gets older Hubb
al-dunya, love of the dunya Thul al
-amal, what is this dunya?
Listen to these statements They're beautiful Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala Says No, the scholars These
are quotes from different scholars, excuse me Al
-dunya daru safar Dunya is the house of
Travel It is not the place Of taking
up residence It's the house to travel through
Go past It's not the place to sit
down Wa alam They say, know that the
dunya khuliqat Was created Li tajuzaha La li
tahuzaha Dunya was made to cross Not to
gather it The Arabic is beautiful Wa li
ta buruha Wa la ta muruha It was
there for you to Reflect on, not to
build on La tadumu ahwaluha This dunya is
such, none of its states Stay the same
It never stays the same The only thing
necessary that we know for sure has changed
Wa la taslam min Sharriha nuzzaluha And the
one who settles down here Can't get away
from the evil of this dunya You know
what's amazing Is Jesus from the Islamic Tradition,
he's known for one thing Zuhud Zuhud means
Complete asceticism from the dunya If you read
the Narrations of Jesus In the words he
says Complete zuhud, he never took a home
He just moved From place to place And
one place Jesus said La tatakhidu al dunya
Rabban Don't make the dunya your god Fattakhathukum
abidin Or it will make you its servant
It will make you its servant That's what
this whole Grind mentality, what do you mean
grind Huh I understand We grind for ma
'indallah And we grind For dunya only if
it helps me with god But not for
the sake of it Not for the Sake
of it Hassan Basri I'll go forward The
love of this dunya, understand Malik Bin Dinar,
why is this so important Malik Bin Dinar
He says By the amount In which you
get upset with Loss of your dunya Proportionally
that much Concern for akhira goes away Hold
on, hold on The amount you get upset
For losing dunya, proportionally That much of your
care for akhira Goes away Alright, what is
dunya It's horrible It's bad, stay away from,
don't love the dunya But what is it
Imam Ghazali he says Yes you have to
know How bad the dunya is, but in
reality We need to know what is it
Three categories of dunya, listen closely Number one
Number one He says That which you take
for your akhira from the dunya From knowledge
And action He says this ain't dunya Your
knowledge that you learn Knowledge of Allah And
your action, that's not dunya None of it
Even if you enjoy it You love Quran,
you love fasting You love prayer So what,
it's not for this dunya It's not for
here, it's for akhira That's not from the
dunya Number two, complete opposite He says That
Everything that's
for right now In this moment And it
has no positive consequences On the akhira, that's
dunya And he says the third Is in
between both of those It's that which It's
for you, but it's not for you Because
you're going to use that For more You're
going to use it for akhira So he
says the food that you eat So that
you can stand in prayer The clothes that
you buy So that you can do ibadah
Whatever you get in order for it to
be for your akhira That's not dunya So
here's the deal It's beautiful We just have
to become akhira-centric people That's all it
comes down to Everything I do in this
dunya I'm automatically connected To its ramifications in
the akhira It's not about me And it's
not about here It's about akhira Now This
verse As I said is the climax of
this surah For me And what does Allah
say about this reality Of dunya Listen to
this verse please Follow Allah No Review, understand
Keep this deeply engraved That this dunya Is
la'ib Number one Play Play You know
this is interesting Because the word Play They
say What Sibyan do that has What children
do that has No consequence to it at
all La'ib They say is What Sibyan
do They wear themselves out Doing it But
there's no faida on the world There's no
real impact on that That's la'ib Number
one What is lahw Amusement They say lahw
is that which This is crazy That which
distracts a person From that Hear me out
What is lahw Everything
that distracts a person From that which Truly
Concerns the person We live in the age
of distraction We live in the age of
distraction Allah says Allah says Same root word
as lahw Same root word Number
one Number two Beautification Adornment And
boasting amongst each other And amassing More wealth
and more children Here's what's crazy Imam Ghazali
says this verse is profound Because it's going
through the stages Of what people engage in
Imam Ghazali says The very first thing that
a human being Gets engaged in is lahw
In the time when they're children Meaning they
spend the whole day doing stuff That has
no consequence at all Then he goes The
next level up is lahw Lahw That's all
they do They're just in amusement That's why
when I walked up and I saw Isa
playing Geometry dash Lahw No
consequence on nothing I beat the level What
did you do in life What consequence did
that have on anything Oh nothing That's lahw
Laib, lahu.
Number two is zina.
Imam Ghazali says, after the age of laib
and lahu, people go up to the level
of zina.
All they care about is looking good.
Opposite gender and looking good, that's it.
Laib, lahu, next level is zina.
Here's what's crazy, Imam Ghazali says, when a
person goes to the next level of engagement,
the previous level looks childish.
And they think, how was I ever engaged
in that?
How was I sitting there gaming all day?
SubhanAllah, now he's into zina.
He has to look good.
He's into the opposite gender.
She's into the opposite gender.
Now it's all about zina, too.
Now what's after the zina phase?
And I think people get stuck in phases.
I think there's 40, 50-year-old people
stuck in laib and lahu still right now.
Never got out of it.
Never got out of it.
Zina, oh, there's a lot of people stuck
in that.
Wa zinatun, just got to look good.
Opposite gender, that's all my life is about.
What's next?
Wa tafakhrun baynakum.
Well, after that, that's whack.
Like, people that are high-level achievers, naudhu
billah, not in our thing, now they just
have to compete with each other.
Because we've all tasted the same pleasure of
zina and laib, so now all they have
is tafakhr, boasting amongst each other about what
they acquired.
Boasting about lineage.
And subhanAllah, the word tafakhr, they say it's
boasting about something external.
It's not even internal.
You didn't even do anything.
Purely external.
Wa tafakhrun baynakum, wa takathir fil amwali wal
awlaad.
And the last stage is just amassing more
and more and more and more and more.
That's all it is.
First stage, laib and lahu.
Second stage, zina, got to look good.
Third stage, got to compete with others, keeping
up with the Joneses.
Tafakhrun baynakum.
Last stage, takathir.
I just got to amass more and more.
I just got to amass more and more,
that's it.
You know what Razi says?
He says, if a person goes through these
stages, and you don't have to go through
them, you can mentally skip them.
That's why Allah's telling us about them.
He says, you know what the next stage
is?
The desire to know God.
The next stage is the desire inside to
know Allah.
And that's why those at the top, I
heard, I think it was Jim Carrey, I
heard Jim Carrey say, I wish everyone had
everything so they could realize this is nothing.
I wish everyone saw what I see so
you could realize all this ain't nothing.
The Quran is literally telling us that.
Ghazali says the stage after takathir is just
wanting to know God.
Now here's the thing, are you thinking, oh,
I have to go through these stages?
No, you don't.
We're hearing this right now.
There's a kid sitting in front, he's eight
years old, he's listening to this now.
You can choose.
I'm not gonna get stuck in those stages.
I'm not gonna make my hayat al-dunya
about la'ib lahu.
I heard one person say, la'ib are
those who play games that have no real
consequence on the world, and lahu are those
who watch them play games.
I'm just saying.
You know what's crazy?
We get into it.
Football, I mean, I grew up with football,
but at the end of the game when
your team loses, the next day you gotta
pay bills.
The next day it's like life is normal.
No real consequence on anything.
Something to think about.
See, here's the thing.
Is your life about that thing?
Or is it something you do to freshen
your brain, this and that and the third?
But is that your life?
Is that what this is all about?
Unless it's to make a living.
I know some people, they make a living,
masha'Allah.
But other than that, is your life about
that game?
And if your life is to play that
game, what you doing with the money?
Alhamdulillah, you could be helping people.
See, it's all about what?
We said this already.
What you're using it for.
If you're akhira-centric, you're good to go.
And that's what we're learning here.
Let's finish this verse.
Allah says, know indeed that this worldly life
is play and amusement and beautification stages.
What's a fakhir?
Boasting.
I got better than you in this.
I got better than you in this.
What's a kathir?
Fil-amwali wal-awlad.
And to amass massive amounts of wealth and
children.
This is at a time when more children
indicated more wealth.
Nowadays, it's opposite.
Less children, more wealth.
You're more woke if you got less children.
If you got one, they're like, okay, good.
Two, they're like, pushing the limit.
Three, you're reckless.
Four, not in Muslim circles, this is Western.
The Prophet said, no, have multiple.
Have a big family.
From the Western perspective, you walk around with
four children, people looking at you like, ah.
But the Quran is speaking to people that
still had a clean fitrah.
Where more children showed that I had more
money, I could take care of more.
It's something deep to reflect on.
He says, Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A
'la says, كَمَثَلِ غَيْثٍ What time is prayer?
15?
Okay.
This verse is almost done, but it's very
powerful how it ends, okay?
Allah says, the example of this
world is like rain.
Think about it, everyone.
When it rains, it impresses the
farmer.
His plants growing from the rain impress
him or her.
And then those plants, after a
few weeks and months, يَهِجُوا They start to
get old and dry.
You'll see it turn yellow.
And then it will just
become chaff blowing.
Brothers and sisters, what is Allah telling us
to look at?
Allah is telling us to look at something.
When the rain comes, the farmer is happy.
But within a short time, three to four
months, that whole crop will be gone.
It'll be gone.
And right before the farmer's eye, he's gonna
watch it sprout, grow, bring forth something, dry
up, wither and blow away.
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى in this is telling
us about how quickly the dunya comes and
goes.
You know what I was thinking about reading
this verse?
Imagine you're one blade of, a stalk of
wheat, you, me.
There's a field.
And this season right now is our season.
This 60 years of me and you, this
is our season.
Here we are 20, some of y'all
19, 20.
Nice supple saplings.
Some of us are later in that season.
Later in that season.
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى says it's going to
come and go.
You're gonna come up and go down.
And guess what?
Next season, we won't even be here.
There'll be other young sapling, wheat stalks sitting
there like, oh, it's my time to shine.
Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is telling us in
this example.
You see how, now the word kuffar, I
told you it means farmer, right?
One of the scholars, they say, yes, it
means farmer, but it could also mean an
actual non-believer.
Why?
Because the believers don't get so happy at
the dunya.
The believers, we love the dunya.
Your kid graduate, alhamdulillah.
Got a better job, alhamdulillah.
But because this isn't the ghaya or, this
isn't the, this ain't it.
We don't get overjoyed.
We get happy, alhamdulillah.
Beautiful, beautiful.
There's a verse that
I wanted to recite to you.
My time is up, we're gonna wrap up
in a second.
There's a verse I wanted to share with
you.
Where Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى in surah, surah
Mu'minun, about the quickness of life.
On the day of resurrection, everyone's resurrected and
How
long were we living on the earth?
The people are resurrected and the day of
judgment is 70,000 years.
So your 40, 50 years compared to 70
,000 is nothing.
How long did you live?
They're asking each other, yo, how long were
we in the dunya?
Yeah, we
were in that dunya for like a day,
day and a half.
No, day or part of a day.
Why don't we
go ask those angels that kept count?
The angels will
You were in
that dunya for a short time.
And just ask anyone who's put time into
this dunya, 40s, 50s, 60s, ask them how
long life is.
In this verse, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
reminded us the reality of this world.
Every person we're going to see is either
in لَعِبْ لَهُ Zina or a mahsin.
That's it.
And then at the end of the verse,
Allah says, brothers and sisters, O believers, the
rain will come, your life will sprout, but
guess what?
You're in a cycle.
And before you know it,
We're going to pass away, we're going to
leave the world.
What did you do during that time?
Powerful verse.
Let's wrap it up.
Allah says, وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ Hold on.
It says, then you will become chaff.
Chaff, it just blows with the wind.
But it's not over.
And then the hereafter,
which is the true life.
There's one of two things.
Look at
the mercy of Allah.
He brings one harsh thing and two gentle
things.
He says, in the hereafter, is عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ
But then he also says, or مَغْفِرَةٌ مِّنَ
Forgiveness of Allah and the pleasure
of Allah.
You know why this is so beautiful?
Because you could forgive somebody and not be
happy with them.
You could forgive somebody.
Yo, you forgive me, I forgive you.
Are we cool?
No, we ain't cool.
Allah says, For us, Inshallah.
Say Inshallah.
Forgiveness.
And now the question is, but is he
happy with me?
وَرِضْوَانِ And رِضْوَانِ means pleasure, pleased.
Listen, a lot of us in this dunya
are looking for acceptance.
Dad never gave it.
Mom didn't give it.
Whoever, we didn't get acceptance.
The only acceptance that will truly satiate you
is the acceptance from God.
That's the رِضْوَانِ منَ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرَ When Allah
looks at you and says, I am pleased
with you, Mikael, I am pleased with you,
Abdullah.
Stop looking for people in the dunya to
say, I'm pleased with you and just focus
on Allah being pleased with you.
May Allah accept from us all.
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
It's time to pray in like two, three
minutes.
We may not have halaqah next week, inshallah,
I have to visit my parents, inshallah, make
dua for them.
So I think next week we'll just take
one week break, inshallah.
Huh?
Call, bismillah.
Oh, he normally calls it, I'm sorry.
You can ask him.
Oh, housekeeping, sisters will be in that back
room there.
You can go from the back, inshallah.
Oh, roots is gonna be where they over.
